RESUMO

The genus Cymophorus Kirby, 1827 in Asia is represented by the single species C. pulchellus Arrow, 1910. This rare species is traditionally divided into two subspecies, the nominate subspecies from India and C. pulchellus tonkinensis Schein, 1954 from Indochina. While recently, the latter was informally treated as a synonym of C. pulchellus. By examining type material and additional specimens, the differences in the external features between the individuals from the two regions are reconsidered, and the two taxa are probably not identical. Precise localities of C. pulchellus tonkinensis in China are given, and geographic distribution of both subspecies is summarized in a map.

RESUMO

All available type materials of the Indochinese genus Goliathopsis Janson, 1881 are determined, and lectotype designations are made for G. capreolus Gestro 1888, G. despectus (Westwood, 1873), G. esquiroli Pouillaude, 1913, and G. velutinus Pouillaude, 1913. The examination of type series revealed three synonyms: Goliathopsis camptotropus Yang, 1988 new synonym and G. polystricus Yang, 1988 new synonym are synonymized with G. esquiroli, and G. maolanus Yang, 1988 new synonym is regarded as a junior synonym of G. lameyi Fairmaire, 1893. Besides, G. cervus Janson, 1881 is proved to be a valid species. Diagnoses, key, and color illustrations are provided for all species. All known distribution records are mapped, and the location of "Tsékou" and "Oui-Sy" are presented and discussed.

RESUMO

Based on an examination of a large number of specimens, considerable variability of the elytral coloration patterns and the parameres of the Asian genus Agnorimus Miyake Iwase, 1991 are observed; and the taxonomic status of all four described taxa have been re-considered. The result shows that only A. pictus (Moser, 1902) can be recognized as valid species, while A. hayashii Miyake Iwase, 1991 new synonym is proposed as a new junior synonym of it. The geographic distribution of this genus is significantly expanded, and most of the distributional records are illustrated in a map with intraspecific variations indicated.

RESUMO

Based on examination of all available types and a large number of additional specimens, the poorly studied genus Macronotops Krikken, 1977 is revised. Thirteen species are recognized, including four new species herein described, M. biserratus Qiu, Xu Chen, new species from Laos, M. dianensis Qiu, Xu Chen, new species from China (Yunnan) and Vietnam, M. miksici Qiu, Xu Chen, new species from China (Yunnan), Myanmar, and India, and M. medogensis Qiu, Xu Chen, new species from China (Xizang). The neotype of Macronota fulvoguttata Fairmaire, 1891 is designated. Macronotops fulvopilosus (Fairmaire, 1894) is considered as an independent species, and M. olivaceofuscus (Bourgoin, 1916) revised status, formerly regarded as subspecies of M. vuilleti (Bourgoin, 1916), is elevated to species rank. Pleuronota subsexmaculata Ma, 1992, new synonym and P. hefengensis Ma, 1992, new synonym are placed as junior synonym of M. olivaceofuscus and M. fulvoguttatus, respectively. All previous records of M. sexmaculatus (Kraatz, 1894) in southern China are verified as misidentification of M. olivaceofuscus; M. sexmaculatus is recorded from China (Xizang) for the first time, and its distribution appears to be limited to the southern side of the eastern Himalayas. Macronotops olivaceofuscus and M. vuilleti are newly recorded from Vietnam and China, respectively. Sima of Myanmar, the type locality of M. ovaliceps (Arrow, 1941), is located at the border of Myanmar and China (Yunnan); and more specimens of this species were obtained from western Yunnan. Habitus and diagnostic characters are illustrated for all species. Key to species and notes on natural history of this genus are also provided.

RESUMO

The Clinterocera jucunda species group of the genus Clinterocera Motschulsky, 1858 is revised. Fourteen species are recognized within this group, including five new species described herein: C. brevifasciata Xu Qiu, new species from northern Vietnam and China; C. krikkeni Xu Qiu, new species from southwestern China; C. sinensis Xu Qiu, new species from southern China; C. velutina Xu Qiu, new species from Hainan, China; and C. vietnamensis Xu Qiu, new species from central Vietnam and Laos. Clinterocera nigra (Kano, 1931) is elevated to the species level. Clinterocera donckieri (Bourgoin, 1924) revised status is revalidated from the synonymy with C. davidis (Fairmaire, 1878). Two new synonyms are proposed based on examination of types and additional specimens: C. humeralis (Moser, 1902) new synonym and C. cervenkai Krajcík, 2012 new synonym are placed as junior synonyms of C. jucunda (Westwood, 1873) and C. donckieri, respectively. Lectotypes are designated for C. davidis and C. humeralis. Diagnoses and colored illustrations of most species are provided, including other four rare species, C. bicolor (Nonfried, 1893), C. ishikawai (Kurosawa, 1973), C. raui (Paulian, 1961), and C. yunnana (Moser, 1911). A key and a detailed description for the species group are presented. Male genitalia, intraspecific variations, new distribution records, and natural history are given for most species. The relationship between Clinterocera and ants is discussed.

RESUMO

The taxonomy of the Coilodera penicillata Hope, 1831 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Cetoniinae) species complex, which is recognized by the black body and elytra with larger tomentose maculae, is revised. Six Indochinese species assigned to this complex, including C. grandimaculata new species from Tibet, China. Coilodera nigroscutellaris Moser, 1902 revised status and C. formosana Moser, 1910 revised status formerly treated as two subspecies of C. penicillata Hope, 1831 are elevated to species rank. The distribution of C. penicillata in China is confirmed based on examination of specimens from Yunnan and Tibet, and almost all previous Chinese literature records should be referred to C. nigroscutellaris. Coilodera dives (Gory & Percheron, 1833) revised status previously synonymized with C. penicillata is herein considered as a valid species based on the examination of types and additional specimens, and C. miksici Antoine, 1986 new synonymy is regarded as a junior synonym of C. dives. A lectotype is designated for Coilodera dives (Gory & Percheron, 1833). The record of C. mearesii (Westwood, 1842) in southeastern China is attributed to a misidentification of C. nigroscutellaris, and it is here newly recoreded from Tibet near the Nepal-China border. Diagnosis characters and intraspecific variations are illustrated for all six species, new distribution records and a key to species are also presented. Ecological information is provided for all species.

RESUMO

The Asian genus Clinterocera Motschulsky, 1858 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Cetoniinae: Cremastocheilini) is redescribed and divided into four species groups based on adult external characters. The definition of species groups and an identification key to these species groups are provided. The C. discipennis species group is revised, and two species are recognized: C. discipennis Fairmaire, 1889 and C. trimaculata Ma, 1993. Callynomes rufiventris Fairmaire, 1904, Callynomes rufithorax Moser, 1901, Callynomes cruciatus Moser, 1901, Callynomes vitalisi (Bourgoin, 1924), and Clinterocera rubra Ma, 1992 are placed as junior synonyms of Clinterocera discipennis. The male of Clinterocera trimaculata is described for the first time and newly recorded from Vietnam. Diagnoses and illustrations of Clinterocera discipennis and Clinterocera trimaculata are provided, with comments on the intraspecific variations. New distribution records of the two species are presented on a map. Brief natural history notes and host ant Liometopum sinense Wheeler, 1921 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) record of Clinterocera trimaculata are also given.
