In an eight-year old Galloway cow, an ectopic pregnancy with mummification of the fetus which had been assumed because of history and clinical examination of the animal was diagnosed as a "tumor of the adipose tissue" (steatitis) following exploratory laparotomy. Possible problems of obesity in cows of extensively kept breeds are discussed.

Effective propagation of various type D retroviruses in human lymphoblastoid Raji cells.

Type D retroviruses belong to viruses which often have a low titer in virus-reproducing cell-systems. In search of better conditions for virus propagation, Raji cells (an EBV-genome carrying human B-cell line) were infected with different isolates of type D retroviruses. as demonstrated by electron microscopy all of the viruses showed a very good and stable virus production during long term cultivation on Raji cells.

The present survey of ultracytochemical investigations in the cells of the Graffi and Rauscher leukaemic systems is intended to throw a light on the place of replication and on the incorporation of cell specific material into the virus. The successful evidence of incorporating certain enzymes associated to the membrane into the virus envelope could have a significance in so far as this process can be used to explain the appearance of cytotropism in certain kinds of virus to a target cell.
