RESUMO

Background: Infertility is a disease of the male or female reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. Aims: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of infertility and its association with reproductive risk factors amongst women of reproductive age group (18-49 years) in district Sonepat, Haryana. Settings and Design: This observational community-based cross-sectional study was conducted amongst 444 reproductive age group (18-49 years) women residing in district Sonepat, from August 2021 to May 2022. Materials and Methods: A simple random sampling technique was used to select the study subjects. After taking written informed consent, all the participants were interviewed using a pre-designed, pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire for desired information. Statistical Analysis Used: Mean and standard deviation (SD) were calculated for quantitative data. Percentages and proportions were calculated for qualitative data. Results: Out of 444 study population, majority of women were fertile (88.7%), while 6.3% of women were secondary infertile and 5% of women were primary infertile. Most women were aged between 30 and 39 years. The difference of occurrence of infertility in relation to genital discharge (P = 0.049), genital ulcer/sores (P ≤ 0.001), groin swelling (P ≤ 0.001), warts (P = 0.015), menstrual cycle duration (P ≤ 0.001) and menstrual flow amount (P = 0.048) was statistically significant. The mean age of menarche for the female with infertility was 14.34 years (standard deviation = 1.40). Conclusion: Almost all of the symptoms of sexually transmitted infection/reproductive tract infection were high amongst infertile females. Awareness generation about the preventable risk factors and provision of infertility care services at primary healthcare facilities will be of use in addressing infertility in Sonepat.

RESUMO

In this work, density functional theory calculations are performed to study the impact of embedding transition metal-(N/P)4moieties in graphene on its geometric structure, electronic properties, and quantum capacitance. Enhancement of quantum capacitance of transition metal doped nitrogen/phosphorus pyridinic graphenes is observed, which is directly related to the availability of states near the Fermi level. The findings show that electronic properties and hence quantum capacitance of graphene can be tuned by varying transition metal dopants and/or their coordination environment. Modified graphenes can suitably be chosen as positive or negative electrodes of asymmetric supercapacitors depending upon the values of quantum capacitance and stored charges. Furthermore, quantum capacitance can be enhanced by widening the working voltage window. The results can serve as guidelines for the design of graphene-based electrodes in supercapacitor applications.

RESUMO

Biodegradation and detoxification of dyes, Malachite green, Nigrosin and Basic fuchsin have been carried out using two fungal isolates Aspergillus niger, and Phanerochaete chrysosporium, isolated from dye effluent soil. Three methods were selected for biodegradation, viz. agar overlay and liquid media methods; stationary and shaking conditions at 25 °C. Aspergillus niger recorded maximum decolorization of the dye Basic fuchsin (81.85%) followed by Nigrosin (77.47%), Malachite green (72.77%) and dye mixture (33.08%) under shaking condition. Whereas, P. chrysosporium recorded decolorization to the maximum with the Nigrosin (90.15%) followed by Basic fuchsin (89.8%), Malachite green (83.25%) and mixture (78.4%). The selected fungal strains performed better under shaking conditions compared to stationary method; moreover the inoculation of fungus also brought the pH of the dye solutions to neutral from acidic. Seed germination bioassay study exhibited that when inoculated dye solutions were used, seed showed germination while uninoculated dyes inhibited germination even after four days of observation. Similarly, microbial growth was also inhibited by uninoculated dyes. The excellent performance of A. niger and P. chrysporium in the biodegradation of textile dyes of different chemical structures suggests and reinforces the potential of these fungi for environmental decontamination.

RESUMO

Mesenteric teratomas are extremely rare in children. We report a case of 5-year-old girl with abdominal mass and fever. At operation, a multicystic mass with variable consistency found within the leaves of the mesentery of jejunum with pus in it. Histopathology examination showed mature infected teratoma of the mesentery.

RESUMO

A heterotopic pancreas as the lead point of ileo-ileal intussusception is extremely rare. A 12-year-old previously healthy boy, presented to the emergency room with the complaint of severe abdominal pain for the last 6-8 hours. A preoperative diagnosis of ileo-ileal intussusception was made on ultrasound and an emergency exploratory laparotomy was done. At laparotomy an ileo-ileal intussusception was found and a polyp noted as a lead point. On histopathology this polyp was found to be heterotopic pancreas.
