RESUMO

Cyathulae Radix, a traditional Chinese medicine and a common vegetable, boasts a history spanning millennia. It enhances bone density, boosts metabolism, and effectively alleviates osteoporosis-induced pain. Despite its historical use, the molecular mechanisms behind Cyathulae Radix's impact on osteoporosis remain unexplored. In this study, we investigated the effects and mechanisms of Cyathulae Radix ethanol extract (CEE) in inhibiting osteoporosis and osteoclastogenesis. Eight-week-old female mice underwent ovariectomy and were treated with CEE for eight weeks. Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) assessed histomorphometric parameters, bone tissue staining observed distal femur histomorphology, and three-point bending tests evaluated tibia mechanical properties. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) measured serum estradiol (E2), receptor activator for nuclear factor B ligand (RANKL), and osteoprotegerin (OPG) levels. Osteoclastogenesis-related markers were analyzed via Western blotting (WB) and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Additionally, CEE effects on RANKL-induced osteoclast formation and bone resorption were investigated in vitro using tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining, qRT-PCR, and WB assay. Compared with the ovariectomy (OVX) group, CEE treatment enhanced trabecular bone density, maximal load-bearing capacity, and various histomorphometric parameters. Serum E2 and OPG levels significantly increased, while Receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB (RANK) decreased in the CEE group. CEE downregulated matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9), Cathepsin K (CTSK), and TRAP gene and protein expression. In bone marrow macrophages (BMMs), CEE reduced mature osteoclasts, bone resorption pit areas, and MMP-9, CTSK, and TRAP expression during osteoclast differentiation. Compared with DMSO treatment, CEE markedly inhibited RANK, TNF receptor associated factor 6 (TRAF6), Proto-oncogene c-Fos (c-Fos), Nuclear factor of activated T-cells cytoplasmic 1 (NFATc1) expressions, and Extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), NF-kappa B-p65 (p65) phosphorylation in osteoclasts. In conclusion, CEE significantly inhibits OVX-induced osteoporosis and RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis, potentially through modulating the Estrogen Receptor (ER)/RANK/NFATc1 signaling pathway.

RESUMO

This study induced biological stress in Sorbus pohuashanensis suspension cell(SPSC) with yeast extract(YE) as a bio-tic elicitor and isolated and identified secondary metabolites of triterpenoids produced under stress conditions. Twenty-six triterpenoids, including fifteen ursane-type triterpenoids(1-15), two 18,19-seco-ursane-type triterpenoids(16-17), four lupine-type triterpenoids(18-21), two cycloartane-type triterpenoids(22-23), and three squalene-type triterpenoids(24-26), were isolated and purified from the methanol extract of SPSC by chromatography on silica gel, MCI, Sephadex LH-20, and MPLC. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses. All triterpenoids were isolated from SPSC for the first time and 22-O-acetyltripterygic acid A(1) was identified as a new compound. Selected compounds were evaluated for antifungal, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory activities, and compound 1 showed an inhibitory effect on NO production in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells.

RESUMO

In recent two decades, ultrasound has been broadly applied to the hydrometallurgical leaching process to recover valuable metals within raw materials, aiming to solve the shortcomings of the conventional leaching process, including relatively low leaching recovery, long leaching duration, high reagent usage, high energy consumption and so on. The present work focuses on a comprehensive overview of the ultrasound-enhanced leaching of various metals, such as common nonferrous and ferrous metals, rare metals, rare earth elements, and precious metals, from raw metal ores and secondary resources. Moreover, the enhanced leaching mechanisms by ultrasound are discussed in detail and summarized based on the improvement of leaching kinetics, enhancement of the mass transfer and diffusion of lixiviants, and promotion of the oxidative conversion of metals from insoluble to soluble states. Lastly, the challenges and outlooks of future research on the leaching recovery for valuable metals with the assistance of ultrasound irradiation are proposed.

RESUMO

Impatiensbijieensis X.X. Bai & L.Y. Ren, sp. nov. from northwest Guizhou Province, China, is described and illustrated. This new species is distributed discontinuously in Jiulongshan, Dafang County and Dajiucaiping, Hezhang County, both of which are in the Wumeng Mountain area, a karst plateau landform. The new species is morphologically similar to I.pterosepala Hook.f., I.lasiophyton Hook.f. and I.leptocaulon Hook.f. in height and flower shape and it especially resembles I.lasiophyton in pilosity. However, it differs in its deep purplish-red flower, 2-lobed lower sepal apex and cylindrical capsule. A detailed description, colour photographs and a provisional IUCN Red List assessment are provided along with discussions of its geographical distribution, ecology and morphological relationships with other similar species.

RESUMO

Impatiensliupanshuiensis (Balsamianceae), belonging to I.subgen.Impatiens, is recognised as a new species from Guizhou, China and it is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to I.xanthocephala W.W. Sm. in its yellow flowers, extremely small basal lobes on lateral united petals, broadly-dolabriform distal lobes and funnelform lower sepal. However, it is distinctive in the number of lateral sepals, teeth on the margin of lateral sepals, the recurvature of the dorsal petal, the number of lateral veins, the shape and size of the lamina and the type of lamina margin. A detailed description of the new species and colour photographs are provided. Its geographical distribution and morphology are also compared to similar species.

RESUMO

The existence of metal ions should not be ignored in both hydrometallurgy and flotation. In this study, the effects of Ca2+, Mg2+ and Fe3+ on the flotation performance of cassiterite using octanohydroxamic acid (OHA) as the collector were investigated by micro-flotation tests, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, contact angle, zeta (ζ) potential measurements and atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging. The results of the flotation and contact angle experiments showed that the addition of Ca2+, Mg2+ and Fe3+ significantly decreased both the recovery and contact angle of cassiterite with pH ranged from 6.0 to 12.0 in the presence of OHA collector. ζ-Potential measurements, solution chemistry analysis and FTIR measurements indicated that the flotation recovery of the cassiterite declined due to the CaOH+, MgOH+ and Fe(OH)3 sites on the cassiterite surface. XPS results indicated that the chemisorption of OHA and calcium ions on the cassiterite surface finally changed its chemical properties. The AFM images also revealed that new species Fe(OH)3 of Fe3+ formed and adsorbed on the cassiterite surface at pH 9.0. The adsorption of Fe(OH)3 reduced the adsorption of OHA on the cassiterite surface, thus the hydrophobicity of cassiterite was deteriorated.
