INTRODUCTION: The increase in the production of substances to enhance the quality of life, the biodiversity of the different ecosystems in Mexico, and the unique characteristics of pediatric patients, contribute to intoxications within this population. METHOD: Analytical retrospective study of admissions to pediatric emergency care due to poisoning in < 16-year-old (2016 to 2020). Included variables were age, gender, type of toxic substance, exposure characteristics, and the season of the year. Frequencies, percentages, range, average and standard deviation were obteined. In the bivariate análisis, the Chi square test was used. A p-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: Over 5 years, there were 459 cases, with a prevalence of 3.16%. No gender predominance was observed. The most common was caused by venomous animals (28.5%), followed by medication ingestion (27.6%). Only 5% of cases were suicide attempts, the rest were accidental (95%). Children up to 5 years old were more commonly by medication ingestion, hydrocarbons, or household products (p = 0.03, p = 0.0001), while the causes in older children were contact with venomous animals and ingestion of stimulants drugs (alcohol, amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine) (p = 0.0001, p = 0.006). Intoxication with quaternary ammonium herbicides was lethal in all cases. CONCLUSIONS: Children under the age of 5 are more susceptible to intoxication from common household products. Older kids tend to be more frequently a combination of stimulants drugs.
INTRODUCCIÓN: El aumento en la producción de sustancias para mejorar la calidad de vida, la biodiversidad de los diferentes ecosistemas en México, así como las características propias de los pacientes pediátricos, contribuyen a la intoxicación dentro de esta población. MÉTODO: Estudio retrospectivo analítico de los ingresos por envenenamiento en niños menores de 16 años en urgencias pediátricas (2016 a 2020). Se analizaron la edad, el sexo, el tipo de xenobiótico, las características de exposición y la estación del año. Se obtuvieron frecuencias, porcentajes, rango, promedio y desviación estándar. En el análisis bivariado se utilizó la prueba chi al cuadrado, considerando estadísticamente significativo un valor p < 0.05. RESULTADOS: En el periodo de 5 años se atendieron 459 casos, con una prevalencia del 3.16%. No se observó predominio de sexo. La intoxicación más frecuente fue por animales venenosos (28.5%), seguida de la ingesta de medicamentos (27.6%). El 95% de los casos fueron accidentales y el 5% por intento de suicidio. En los menores de 5 años, lo más frecuente fue la ingesta de medicamentos, hidrocarburos o productos de uso doméstico (p = 0.03, p = 0.0001), mientras que en los mayores de 6 años fue por contacto con animales venenosos e ingesta de drogas estimulantes (alcohol, anfetaminas, cannabis, cocaína) (p = 0.0001, p = 0.006). El 100% de los intoxicados por herbicida cuaternario de amonio fallecieron. CONCLUSIONES: Los menores de 5 años son más propensos a la intoxicación con productos que se utilizan en sus propios domicilios. En los mayores de 6 años es más frecuente la combinación de drogas estimulantes.

Forest cover is deteriorating rapidly due to anthropogenic causes, making its restoration urgent. Plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) could offer a viable solution to ensure successful reforestation efforts. This study aimed to select bacterial strains with mechanisms that promote plant growth and enhance seedling development. The bacterial strains used in this study were isolated from the rhizosphere and endophyte regions of Pinus montezumae Lamb. and Pinus patula Schl. et Cham., two Mexican conifer species commonly used for reforestation purposes. Sixteen bacterial strains were selected for their ability to produce auxins, chitinase, and siderophores, perform nitrogen fixation, and solubilize inorganic phosphates; they also harbored genes encoding antimicrobial production and ACC deaminase. The adhesion to seeds, germination rate, and seedling response of P. montezumae and P. patula were performed following inoculation with 10 bacterial strains exhibiting high plant growth-promoting potential. Some strains demonstrated the capacity to enhance seedling growth. The selected strains were taxonomically characterized and belonged to the genus Serratia, Buttiauxella, and Bacillus. These strains exhibited at least two mechanisms of action, including the production of indole-3-acetic acid, biological nitrogen fixation, and phosphate solubilization, and could serve as potential alternatives for the reforestation of affected areas.

OBJECTIVE: To address the current practice of liberating patients from invasive mechanical ventilation in pediatric intensive care units, with a focus on the use of standardized protocols, criteria, parameters, and indications for noninvasive respiratory support postextubation. METHODS: Electronic research was carried out from November 2021 to May 2022 in Ibero-American pediatric intensive care units. Physicians and respiratory therapists participated, with a single representative for each pediatric intensive care unit included. There were no interventions. RESULTS: The response rate was 48.9% (138/282), representing 10 Ibero-American countries. Written invasive mechanical ventilation liberation protocols were available in only 34.1% (47/138) of the pediatric intensive care units, and their use was associated with the presence of respiratory therapists (OR 3.85; 95%CI 1.79 - 8.33; p = 0.0008). The most common method of liberation involved a gradual reduction in ventilatory support plus a spontaneous breathing trial (47.1%). The mean spontaneous breathing trial duration was 60 - 120 minutes in 64.8% of the responses. The presence of a respiratory therapist in the pediatric intensive care unit was the only variable associated with the use of a spontaneous breathing trial as the primary method of liberation from invasive mechanical ventilation (OR 5.1; 95%CI 2.1 - 12.5). Noninvasive respiratory support protocols were not frequently used postextubation (40.4%). Nearly half of the respondents (43.5%) reported a preference for using bilevel positive airway pressure as the mode of noninvasive ventilation postextubation. CONCLUSION: A high proportion of Ibero-American pediatric intensive care units lack liberation protocols. Our study highlights substantial variability in extubation readiness practices, underscoring the need for standardization in this process. However, the presence of a respiratory therapist was associated with increased adherence to guidelines.

Modern hydrodynamic simulations of core-collapse supernovae and neutron-star mergers require knowledge not only of the equilibrium properties of strongly interacting matter, but also of the system's response to perturbations, encoded in various transport coefficients. Using perturbative and holographic tools, we derive here an improved weak-coupling and a new strong-coupling result for the most important transport coefficient of unpaired quark matter, its bulk viscosity. These results are combined in a simple analytic pocket formula for the quantity that is rooted in perturbative quantum chromodynamics at high densities but takes into account nonperturbative holographic input at neutron-star densities, where the system is strongly coupled. This expression can be used in the modeling of unpaired quark matter at astrophysically relevant temperatures and densities.

Dengue is a common infectious disease in tropical areas such as Peru. This virus can cause underreported and potentially fatal complications such as acute liver failure. We report the case of a 7-year-old boy who presented with fever, headache, and abdominal pain. On ultrasound, we found hepatomegaly and labs severe thrombocytopenia and elevated transaminases. During hospitalization he was diagnosed with severe dengue and developed acute liver failure, kidney injury, and encephalopathy. Although intensive care management and assisted ventilation, he developed multiple organ dysfunctions with fluid refractoriness and capillary leak. Acute liver failure secondary to severe dengue is a rare complication with an unfavorable outcome.

Importance: Neurological manifestations during acute SARS-CoV-2-related multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) are common in hospitalized patients younger than 18 years and may increase risk of new neurocognitive or functional morbidity. Objective: To assess the association of severe neurological manifestations during a SARS-CoV-2-related hospital admission with new neurocognitive or functional morbidities at discharge. Design, Setting, and Participants: This prospective cohort study from 46 centers in 10 countries included patients younger than 18 years who were hospitalized for acute SARS-CoV-2 or MIS-C between January 2, 2020, and July 31, 2021. Exposure: Severe neurological manifestations, which included acute encephalopathy, seizures or status epilepticus, meningitis or encephalitis, sympathetic storming or dysautonomia, cardiac arrest, coma, delirium, and stroke. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was new neurocognitive (based on the Pediatric Cerebral Performance Category scale) and/or functional (based on the Functional Status Scale) morbidity at hospital discharge. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to examine the association of severe neurological manifestations with new morbidity in each SARS-CoV-2-related condition. Results: Overall, 3568 patients younger than 18 years (median age, 8 years [IQR, 1-14 years]; 54.3% male) were included in this study. Most (2980 [83.5%]) had acute SARS-CoV-2; the remainder (588 [16.5%]) had MIS-C. Among the patients with acute SARS-CoV-2, 536 (18.0%) had a severe neurological manifestation during hospitalization, as did 146 patients with MIS-C (24.8%). Among survivors with acute SARS-CoV-2, those with severe neurological manifestations were more likely to have new neurocognitive or functional morbidity at hospital discharge compared with those without severe neurological manifestations (27.7% [n = 142] vs 14.6% [n = 356]; P < .001). For survivors with MIS-C, 28.0% (n = 39) with severe neurological manifestations had new neurocognitive and/or functional morbidity at hospital discharge compared with 15.5% (n = 68) of those without severe neurological manifestations (P = .002). When adjusting for risk factors in those with severe neurological manifestations, both patients with acute SARS-CoV-2 (odds ratio, 1.85 [95% CI, 1.27-2.70]; P = .001) and those with MIS-C (odds ratio, 2.18 [95% CI, 1.22-3.89]; P = .009) had higher odds of having new neurocognitive and/or functional morbidity at hospital discharge. Conclusions and Relevance: The results of this study suggest that children and adolescents with acute SARS-CoV-2 or MIS-C and severe neurological manifestations may be at high risk for long-term impairment and may benefit from screening and early intervention to assist recovery.

RESUMEN El dengue es una enfermedad infecciosa frecuente en áreas tropicales como Perú. Este virus puede producir complicaciones poco reportadas y potencialmente fatales como la falla hepática aguda. Reportamos el caso de un niño de 7 años que presentó fiebre, cefalea y dolor abdominal. En la ecografía se encontró hepatomegalia y en los laboratorios se observó trombocitopenia severa y elevación de transaminasas. Durante la hospitalización fue diagnosticado como dengue severo y desarrolló falla hepática aguda, injuria renal y encefalopatía. A pesar del manejo de soporte y la ventilación asistida, desarrolló disfunción orgánica múltiple con refractariedad a fluidos y fuga capilar. La falla hepática aguda secundaria a dengue severo es una complicación rara con desenlace desfavorable.

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluates the ROX index's accuracy in predicting the success or failure of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy in children under 2 years with acute respiratory failure (ARF) from lower respiratory tract infections. METHODS: From January 2018 to 2021 we conducted this multicenter retrospective cohort study, which included patients aged 2-24 months. We aimed to assess HFNC therapy outcomes as either success or failure. The analysis covered patient demographics, diagnoses, vital signs, and ROX index values at intervals from 0 to 48 h after initiating HFNC. We used bivariate analysis, repeated measures ANOVA, multivariate logistic regression, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUC-ROC) curve for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The study involved 529 patients from six centers, with 198 females (37%) and a median age of 9 months (IQR: 3-15 months). HFNC therapy failed in 38% of cases. We observed significant variability in failure rates across different centers and physicians (p < .001). The ROX index was significantly associated with HFNC outcomes at all time points, showing an increasing trend in success cases over time (p < .001), but not in HFNC failure cases. Its predictive ability is limited, with AUC-ROC values ranging from 0.56 at the start to 0.67 at 48 h. CONCLUSION: While the ROX index is associated with HFNC outcomes in children under 2 years, its predictive ability is modest, impacted by significant variability among patients, physicians, and centers. These findings emphasize the need for more reliable predictive tools for HFNC therapy in this patient population.

INTRODUCTION: We aimed to identify clinical characteristics, risk factors for diagnosis, and describe outcomes among children with AHT. METHODS: We performed an observational cohort study in tertiary care hospitals from 14 countries across Asia and Ibero-America. We included patients <5 years old who were admitted to participating pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). We performed descriptive analysis and multivariable logistic regression for risk factors of AHT. RESULTS: 47 (12%) out of 392 patients were diagnosed with AHT. Compared to those with accidental injuries, children with AHT were more frequently < 2 years old (42, 89.4% vs 133, 38.6%, p < 0.001), more likely to arrive by private transportation (25, 53.2%, vs 88, 25.7%, p < 0.001), but less likely to have multiple injuries (14, 29.8% vs 158, 45.8%, p = 0.038). The AHT group was more likely to suffer subdural hemorrhage (SDH) (39, 83.0% vs 89, 25.8%, p < 0.001), require antiepileptic medications (41, 87.2% vs 209, 60.6%, p < 0.001), and neurosurgical interventions (27, 57.40% vs 143, 41.40%, p = 0.038). Mortality, PICU length of stay, and functional outcomes at 3 months were similar in both groups. In the multivariable logistic regression, age <2 years old (aOR 8.44, 95%CI 3.07-23.2), presence of seizures (aOR 3.43, 95%CI 1.60-7.36), and presence of SDH (aOR 9.58, 95%CI 4.10-22.39) were independently associated with AHT. CONCLUSIONS: AHT diagnosis represented 12% of our TBI cohort. Overall, children with AHT required more neurosurgical interventions and the use of anti-epileptic medications. Children younger than 2 years and with SDH were independently associated with a diagnosis of AHT. TYPE OF STUDY: Observational cohort study. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: III.

Objective: To determine the short-, mid-, and long-term complications after multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) over a 24-month follow-up period in a hospital in Lima, Peru, 2020-2022, and to explore differences according to the immunomodulatory treatment received and type of SARS-CoV-2 virus circulating. Methods: Ambispective 24-month follow-up study in children <14 years of age diagnosed with MIS-C at the Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins (HNERM). Results: A total of 62 children were admitted with MIS-C. The most common short-term complications and serious events were intensive care unit (ICU) admission, invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) due to respiratory failure, and shock; predominantly during the second pandemic wave (lambda predominance) and in children that received intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) plus a corticosteroid. Two patients died during the first wave due to MIS-C. During prospective follow-up (median of 24 months; IQR: 16.7-24), only 46.7% of patients were followed for >18-24 months. Of the total, seven (11.3%) patients were identified with some sequelae on discharge. Among the 43 remaining children, sequelae persisted in five (11.6%) cases (neurological, hematological, and skin problems). Six patients (13.9%) presented with new onset disease (hematologic, respiratory, neurological, and psychiatric disorders). One patient died due to acute leukemia during the follow-up period. None of them were admitted to the ICU or presented with MIS-C reactivation. Two patients presented persistence of coronary aneurysm until 8- and 24-month post-discharge. Conclusion: In our hospital, children with MIS-C frequently developed short-term complications and serious events during the acute phase, with less frequent complications in the mid- and long-term. More studies are required to confirm these findings.

OBJECTIVE: To describe lung mechanics in Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (PARDS) associated with acute COVID-19 and MIS-C with respiratory failure. METHODS: A concurrent multicenter observational study was performed, analyzing clinical variables and pulmonary mechanics of PARDS associated with COVID-19 in 4 Pediatric intensive care units (PICU) in Peru. The subgroup analysis included PARDS associated with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), MIS-PARDS, and PARDS with COVID-19 primary respiratory infection, C-PARDS. In addition, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis for mortality and lung mechanics was performed. RESULTS: 30 patients were included. The age was 7.5 (4-11) years, 60% were male, and mortality was 23%. 47% corresponded to MIS-PARDS and 53% to C-PARDS groups. C-PARDS had positive RT-PCR in 67% and MIS-PARDS none (p < 0.001). C-PARDS group had more profound hypoxemia (P/F ratio < 100, 86% vs. 38%, p < 0.01) and higher driving-pressure [14(10-22) vs 10(10-12) cmH2O], and lower compliance of the respiratory system (CRS) [0.5 (0.3-0.6) vs 0.7(0.6-0.8) ml/ kg/cmH2O] compared with MIS-PARDS (all p < 0.05). The ROC analysis for mortality showed that driving pressure had the best performance [AUC 0.91(95%CI0.81-1.00), with the best cut-off point of 15 cmH2O (100% sensitivity and 87% specificity). Mortality in C-PARDS was 38% and 7% in MIS-PARDS (p = 0.09). MV-free days were 12(0-23) in C-PARDS and 23(21-25) in MIS-PARDS (p = 0.02). CONCLUSION: Patients with C-PARDS have lung mechanics characteristics similar to classic moderate to severe PARDS. This was not observed in patients with MIS-C. As seen in other studies, a driving pressure ≥ 15 cmH2O was the best discriminator for mortality. These findings may help guide ventilatory management strategies for these two different presentations.

Fluid resuscitation with crystalloids has been used in humans for more than 100 years. In patients with trauma, sepsis or shock of any etiology, they can help modify the clinical course of the illness. However, these solutions are medications which are not side-effect free. Recently, they have been questioned in terms of quantity (fluid overload) and their composition. The most frequently used crystalloids, both in high and low-income countries, are 0.9% normal saline (NS) and Ringer's lactate. The first descriptions of the use of sodium and water solutions in humans date from the cholera epidemic which spread throughout Europe in 1831. The composition of the fluids used by medical pioneers at that time differs greatly from the 0.9% NS used routinely today. The term "physiological solution" referred to fluids which did not cause red blood cell hemolysis in amphibians in in vitro studies years later. 0.9% NS has an acid pH, a more than 40% higher chloride concentration than plasma and a strong ion difference of zero, leading many researchers to consider it an unbalanced solution. In many observational studies and clinical trials, this 0.9% NS composition has been associated with multiple microcirculation and immune response complications, acute kidney injury, and worse clinical outcomes. Ringer's lactate has less sodium than plasma, as well as other electrolytes which can cause problems in patients with traumatic brain injury. This review provides a brief summary of the most important historical aspects of the origin of the most frequently used intravenous crystalloids today.

In this paper, sediments from the Santiago River were characterized to look for an alternative source of inoculum for biogas production. A proteomic analysis of methane-processing archaea present in these sediments was carried out. The Euryarchaeota superkingdom of archaea is responsible for methane production and methane assimilation in the environment. The Santiago River is a major river in México with great pollution and exceeded recovery capacity. Its sediments could contain nutrients and the anaerobic conditions for optimal growth of Euryarchaeota consortia. Batch bioreactor experiments were performed, and a proteomic analysis was conducted with current database information. The maximum biogas production was 266 NmL·L-1·g VS-1, with 33.34% of methane, and for proteomics, 3206 proteins were detected from 303 species of 69 genera. Most of them are metabolically versatile members of the genera Methanosarcina and Methanosarcinales, both with 934 and 260 proteins, respectively. These results showed a diverse euryarcheotic species with high potential to methane production. Although related proteins were found and could be feeding this metabolism through the methanol and acetyl-CoA pathways, the quality obtained from the biogas suggests that this metabolism is not the main one in carbon use, possibly the sum of several conditions including growth conditions and the pollution present in these sediments.

In Mexico, cacao production is endangered by pathogenic fungi, such as Phytophthora spp. and Moniliophthora rorei, that cause black pod rot and moniliasis, respectively. In this study the biocontrol agent Paenibacillus sp. NMA1017 was tested in cacao fields against the previous diseases. The treatments applied were shade management, inoculation of the bacterial strain with or without an adherent, and use of chemical control. The statistical analysis showed that the incidence of black pod rot in tagged cacao trees diminished when the bacterium was applied (reduction of 44.24 to 19.11%). The same result was observed with moniliasis when the pods were tagged (reduction of 66.6 to 27%). The use of Paenibacillus sp. NMA1017 with an integrated management might be a solution to cacao diseases and to having a sustainable production of cacao in Mexico.

RESUMEN El objetivo del presente estudio fue describir las características de los pacientes pediátricos (entre 28 días y 14 años) hospitalizados con COVID-19 durante la tercera ola (variante ómicron) en el Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins (HNERM) (Lima, Perú). En esta cohorte retrospectiva, se revisaron las historias clínicas de 122 pacientes pediátricos que fueron atendidos en el HNERM entre enero e inicios de abril del 2022 (55% varones, mediana de edad de 5 años), 77,9% durante el primer mes, y la mitad presentaron alguna comorbilidad. Se hospitalizaron principalmente por dificultad respiratoria, comorbilidad descompensada y deshidratación. El 6,6% ingresaron a cuidados intensivos, 4,9% a ventilación mecánica invasiva, 5,7% requirieron algún vasoactivo y 1,6% fallecieron. Los fármacos más usados fueron antibióticos (43,4%) y corticoides (27,1%). En conclusión, se encontró un incremento rápido de hospitalizaciones en comparación con las olas anteriores, la mayoría con evolución favorable, y con un amplio uso empírico de antibióticos.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to describe the characteristics of pediatric patients (28 days to 14 years of age) hospitalized with COVID-19 during the third wave of the pandemic (omicron variant) at the Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins (HNERM) (Lima, Peru). In this retrospective cohort, we reviewed the medical records of 122 pediatric patients who attended HNERM between January and early April 2022 (55% male, median age: 5 years); 77.9% attended HNERM during the first month, and half of them had some comorbidity. Participants were hospitalized mainly for respiratory distress, decompensated comorbidity, and dehydration. Of the participants, 6.6% were admitted to intensive care, 4.9% to invasive mechanical ventilation, 5.7% required some vasoactive agent and 1.6% died. The most commonly used drugs were antibiotics (43.4%) and corticosteroids (27.1%). In conclusion, hospitalizations rapidly increased during the third wave, when compared to previous waves, most of them with favorable progression and with a wide empirical use of antibiotics.

AIMS: Systemic venous congestion is associated with an increased risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients. Venous Excess Ultrasound Score (VExUS) has been proposed as a non-invasive score to assess systemic venous congestion. We aimed to evaluate the association between VExUS and AKI in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). METHODS AND RESULTS: This is a prospective study including patients with the diagnosis of ACS (both ST elevation and non-ST elevation ACS). VExUS was performed during the first 24 h of hospital stay. Patients were classified according to the presence of systemic congestion (VExUS 0/≥1). The primary objective of the study was to determine the occurrence of AKI, defined by KDIGO criteria. A total of 77 patients were included. After ultrasound assessment, 31 (40.2%) patients were categorized as VExUS ≥1. VExUS ≥1 was more frequently found in inferior vs. anterior myocardial infarction/non-ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (48.3 vs. 25.8 and 22.5%, P = 0.031). At each increasing degree of VExUS, a higher proportion of patients developed AKI: VExUS = 0 (10.8%), VExUS = 1 (23.8%), VExUS = 2 (75.0%), and VExUS = 3 (100%; P < 0.001). A significant association between VExUS ≥1 and AKI was found [odds ratio (OR): 6.75, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.21-23.7, P = 0.001]. After multivariable analysis, only VExUS ≥1 (OR: 6.15; 95% CI: 1.26-29.94, P = 0.02) remained significantly associated with AKI. CONCLUSION: In patients hospitalized with ACS, VExUS is associated with the occurrence of AKI. Further studies are needed to clarify the role of VExUS assessment in patients with ACS.

BACKGROUND: High-quality surgery plays a central role in the delivery of excellent oncologic care. Benchmark values indicate the best achievable results. We aimed to define benchmark values for gallbladder cancer (GBC) surgery across an international population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study included consecutive patients with GBC who underwent curative-intent surgery during 2000-2021 at 13 centers, across seven countries and four continents. Patients operated on at high-volume centers without the need for vascular and/or bile duct reconstruction and without significant comorbidities were chosen as the benchmark group. RESULTS: Of 906 patients who underwent curative-intent GBC surgery during the study period, 245 (27%) were included in the benchmark group. These were predominantly women (n = 174, 71%) and had a median age of 64 years (interquartile range 57-70 years). In the benchmark group, 50 patients (20%) experienced complications within 90 days after surgery, with 20 patients (8%) developing major complications (Clavien-Dindo grade ≥ IIIa). Median length of postoperative hospital stay was 6 days (interquartile range 4-8 days). Benchmark values included ≥ 4 lymph nodes retrieved, estimated intraoperative blood loss ≤ 350 mL, perioperative blood transfusion rate ≤ 13%, operative time ≤ 332 min, length of hospital stay ≤ 8 days, R1 margin rate ≤ 7%, complication rate ≤ 22%, and rate of grade ≥ IIIa complications ≤ 11%. CONCLUSIONS: Surgery for GBC remains associated with significant morbidity. The availability of benchmark values may facilitate comparisons in future analyses among GBC patients, GBC surgical approaches, and centers performing GBC surgery.
