RESUMO
Omega-3 (Omega-3) and omega-6 (Omega-6) fatty acids (FAs) are essential FAs needed for brain and retina development and maintenance of red blood cell (RBC) membranes. This study investigated the association between the profile of FAs in the membranes of RBCs and malnutrition in children. Demographic, anthropometric, and breast-feeding data and blood samples for analysis of FAs were obtained from malnourished and well-nourished children. The results indicate significant between-group differences in the profile of FAs. These findings support the need for adequate intake of Omega-3 FAs in promoting optimal growth and development processes and emphasize the role of nurses as providers of nutritional and anticipatory guidance for parents and caretakers.

Many clinicians consider the prosthetic restoration of missing posterior teeth by means of a 5-unit fixed partial denture with a pier abutment a non-favorable situation. The present article assesses the validity of the pier abutment by means of a critical review of the literature and mathematical analysis of the forces generated within a fixed partial denture of this design. Few studies are available, and none substantiate the theory that the pier abutment serves as a fulcrum. A mathematical model suggests that debonding may occur in the anterior abutment, but not due to the teetering of the fixed partial denture around the pier abutment.

This article describes a technique for fabricating an obturator prosthesis using new visible light-polymerized resin denture base material. This technique incorporates the advantages of a processed record base that allows a more stable record base to assist with making maxillomandibular relationship records.

The article describes a clinical and laboratory technique for the fabrication of a feeding obturator for a baby with Pierre Robin sequence. Emphasis is placed on the direct fabrication of a preliminary custom tray, preventing thermal trauma to the tissues, and overcoming the danger of airway obstruction or foreign body aspiration. The functional problems associated with a cleft palate and various methods to overcome them are also discussed.
