RESUMO

Objective: To analyze the physical growth of preterm infants with different intrauterine growth patterns. Methods: A total of 10 856 preterm infants who were born in various districts of Haikou City from October 1st, 2015 to June 1st, 2021 and received regular health care and management were retrospectively enrolled. The preterm infants were divided into appropriate for gestational age (AGA), small for gestational age (SGA) and large for gestational age (LGA) groups according to different intrauterine growth patterns. The general characteristics of preterm infants in different groups were compared by H test (Kruskal and Wallis) or Chi-squared test. And the developmental curves were plotted by local regression (LOESS) with their physical growth indexes. Results: Of the 10 856 preterm infants, 6 317 were boys and 4 539 were girls. The gestational age at birth was 35 (34, 36) weeks, and the birth weight was 2.5 (2.1, 2.8) kg. There were 754 (6.9%) SGA, 9 301 (85.7%) AGA, and 801 (7.4%) LGA preterm infants. All preterm infants were followed up until 18 months of corrected age. The birth weight of the SGA group was lower than that of the AGA and LGA groups (Z=2 274.93, P<0.001). The proportion of exclusive breastfeeding at the first health care interview was higher in the AGA group (68.6% (6 378/9 301)) than in the SGA group (62.9% (474/754)) (χ2=13.82, P=0.003). The LOESS curving fitting showed that the weight and height of the preterm infants in all the 3 groups increased rapidly during 0-6 months of corrected age. The regression prediction values of weight for age Z-score (WAZ), height for age Z-score (HAZ) and weight for height Z-score (WHZ) were around 0 s, while the regression prediction values of these three indicators in SGA were all below 0 s but greater than -1 s. The rates of low birth weight, growth retardation and wasting during 0-17 months of corrected age were 0.3% (16/4 838)-1.9% (47/2 506), 0.4% (18/4 838) -2.4% (51/2 124), and 2.1% (88/4 135) -4.4% (214/4 838) in AGA groups, and 0 (0/296) -1.0% (2/199), 0 (0/341) -1.6% (3/186) and 1.0% (2/199) -2.6% (9/341) in LGA group, whereas 7.6% (25/330) -16.8% (28/167), 5.2% (17/330)-10.6%(32/303) and 3.9% (3/77) -12.6% (21/167) in SGA group. In addition, the monthly growth of weight and height of preterm infants in all the 3 groups decreased with the increasing age, and the monthly weight gain. The length increment was 4.0 cm/month during corrected 0-2 month of age and 2.4 cm/month during corrected 2-5 month of age in the SGA preterm infants. Conclusions: Most of the preterm infants could have an appropriate catch-up growth, but the growth and development in the SGA preterm infants lags behind that of their AGA and LGA peers. The physical growth of SGA premature infants should be paid more attention to, to timely correct the growth deviations.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the acute and long-term outcome of catheter ablation for the treatment of ventricular tachycardia (VT) in patients with arrhythmogenic left ventricular cardiomyopathy (ALVC). Methods: This retrospective, cross-sectional study enrolled ALVC patients undergoing radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of VT at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2011 to December 2018 and collected their clinical characteristics and intraoperative electrophysiological examination. Patients were followed up every 6 months after radiofrequency ablation until August 2021. Echocardiographic results and VT recurrence post radiofrequency ablation were analysed. Results: Totally 12 patients were enrolled (mean age: (42±15) years, 11 males(11/12)). The mean of left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVDd) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were (51±5)mm and (65±5)%, respectively. Twelve VTs were induced in 10 patients during the electrophysiological study, and the mean tachycardia cycle length was (293±65) ms. Three-dimensional substrate mapping revealed the diseased area at endocardial site in one patient, at epicardial sites in the other 11 patients (involved endocardial sites in 2 cases) with the basal part near the mitral annulus being the predilection for the substrate (10/11). After the catheter ablation at the endocardial and epicardial sites respectively, the complete procedure endpoint was achieved in all patients (VT cannot be induced post ablation). The median follow-up time was 65 (25, 123) months. One patient was lost to follow-up, and the other 11 patients survived without VT. No significant cardiac function deterioration was detected by the echocardiographic examination ((51±5)mm vs. (52±5)mm, P>0.05 for LVDd, (65±5)% vs. (60±6)%, P>0.05 for LVEF) at the end of follow-up. Conclusion: After radiofrequency ablation, the complete procedure endpoint is achieved in ALVC patients, and the catheter ablation provides long-term ventricular tachycardia control during the long-term follow-up.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the spatiotemporal distribution and macro-related factors of congenital syphilis in Guangdong province and provide suggestions and recommendations for prevention. Methods: Yearly reported cases of syphilis and some influencing factor data of Guangdong province were collected from 2005 to 2017. The spatiotemporal distribution of congenital syphilis was described. Meanwhile, the spatial panel data model was constructed to analyze the relationship between the incidence rates of congenital syphilis and related factors. Results: From 2005 to 2017, 13 361 cases of congenital syphilis were reported in Guangdong province. The number of congenital syphilis cases rose to its highest point during 2005-2011. A slow downward trend followed. The peaks of incidence were observed from August to December. The incidence of the non-Pearl River Delta region has experienced a process of rising first and then decreasing. The spatial panel data model results showed that congenital syphilis had significant positive spatial autocorrelation (P<0.001). The incidence of primary and secondary syphilis in women (ß=0.822,P<0.001), gross domestic product per capita (ß=3.511,P<0.001), net migrate rate (ß=0.215,P=0.047) and maternal system management rate(ß=0.017,P=0.021) were all positively correlated with the incidence rates of congenital syphilis. Registered population density (ß=-1.167,P<0.001) and prenatal examination rate (ß=-0.038,P=0.031) was negatively correlated with congenital syphilis. Conclusions: The incidence of congenital syphilis was spatially aggregated in Guangdong province from 2005 to 2017. The intensity of prevention might be strengthened in cities with developed economies and high net migration rates, which have high risks of congenital syphilis. Controlling the incidence of primary and secondary syphilis in women and increasing the prenatal examination rate for pregnant women appears effective prevention measures of congenital syphilis.

RESUMO

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of multiple pregnancies. Methods: In this retrospective study, 84 cases (total 174 fetuses) of complex monochorionic pregnancies treated with RFA for selective fetal reduction were analyzed. All cases were managed in the Guangdong Women and Children Hospital from January 2015 to January 2018. Indications for offering RFA, details of the procedure and pregnancy outcomes were collected and analyzed. Results: (1)The rate of miscarriage and fetal intrauterine death was 21% (18/84), termination of pregnancy because of fetal malformation or oligohydramnion occurred in 10% (8/84) of cases. Total live birth rate was 69% (58/84) and the gestation age at delivery was (35.0±3.0) weeks. (2) The live birth rate of twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence (TRAPS) was the lowest (6/11), followed by twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS; 66%, 27/41), structural or genetic abnormalities of one fetus in monochorionic twin pregnancy (10/14), triplet pregnancy reduction (4/6) and selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR) (11/12). (3) The live birth rate was 67% (20/30) in stage Ⅲ of TTTS and 7/11 in the stage Ⅳ of TTTS (P>0.05). The average gestational age was (33.6±3.0) weeks in stage Ⅲ of TTTS compared with (36.5±2.4) weeks in the stage Ⅳof TTTS (P<0.05). Conclusions: RFA appears to be a reliable option for selective fetal reduction in monochorionic multiple pregnancies. The indication of RFA is an influencing factor on its pregnancy outcomes. Type Ⅱand type Ⅲ sIUGR may choose this technique as a priority. Compared with stage Ⅲ of TTTS, the live birth rate and the gestation age at delivery in stage Ⅳ of TTTS, there are no significant differences.

RESUMO

Objective:To explore the mutation spectrum of SLC26A4 in Chinese patients with enlarged vestibular aqueduct syndrome.Method:Genomic DNA samples were extracted from peripheral blood of the cochlear implant recipients associated with enlarged vestibular aqueduct syndrome. The SLC26A4 mutations were analyzed by direct sequencing.Result:A novel missense mutation(347G>A) of SLC26A4 gene was found in a male patient, which led to a substitution of codon 116 from glycine to asparagic acid. This mutation was not observed among 60 normal controls. Conclusion:The 347G>A of SLC26A4 gene was a novel pathologic mutation, contributing to the mutation spectrum of SLC26A4 of enlarged vestibular aqueduct syndrome.

RESUMO

Giant cell tumour (GCT) of the spine is rarely encountered in daily clinical practice. Most of the tumours occur at the sacrum instead of at the spine above the sacrum, which has been reported to account for 1.3-9.3% of all spine GCTs. This article is a review of our radiological experience of the diagnosis of spine GCT above the sacrum based on 34 patients at a single institution. The purpose of this pictorial review is to highlight the imaging findings of GCT and to provide clues that may distinguish it from other, more common neoplasms.

RESUMO

In this study, the fraction (P) from an aqueous extract of dried rose (Rosa rugosa) flowers was obtained by ethanol precipitation. P was chromatographed on DEAE-cellulose. The components retained on DEAE-cellulose were eluted with a linear gradient of 0-2 M NaCl solution. Two fractions, eluted at concentrations of 0.5 M NaCl and 1 M NaCl, respectively, were obtained. These two components were designated as P1 and P2, respectively. P1 was further purified using gel filtration on Sephadex G-200. P(1) yielded two peaks, and the two components were designated as P(1-a) and P(1-b), respectively. P(1-a) was a polysaccharide-peptide complex, and P(1-b) exhibited chemical properties of a condensed tannin as revealed by FTIR and NMR assay of carbohydrate and protein contents and HPLC-ESI-MS. The molecular masses of P(1-a) and P(1-b) were 150 kDa and 8 kDa, respectively. Both P(1-a) and P(1-b) possessed antioxidant activity, with the activity of P(1-b) higher than that of P(1-a). This study demonstrated that different components from rose flowers exhibited antioxidant activity.

RESUMO

The effects of rose-flower extract on antioxidant enzymes were studied. The activities of catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in 9-month-old senescence-accelerated mice (SAM mice) were lower than those in 6-month-old SAM mice. Therefore, 9-month-old SAM mice were the most appropriate targets for treatment with the rose-flower extract. The activities of CAT and GPx in SAM mice treated with rose-flower extract showed a marked increase in whole blood and liver. At the same time, the gene-expression level of CAT and GPx was upregulated in the liver, while malondialdehyde content in liver and brain decreased. Male SAM mice were more sensitive than female SAM mice. The mean and the longest lifespan of SAM mice were longer after treatment with rose-flower extract.

RESUMO

Comparison of the dose-response relationship of retinal damage induced by Q-switched (Q-sw) Nd:YAG lasers was conducted for rabbits and monkeys. Experimental results indicated that the two probit regression lines were parallel to each other, and the damage threshold (ED50) ratio was approximately 1:3.57. Observations of the injurious effects of Q-sw Nd:YAG rangefinders--the total energy level being about 10-100 mJ--and their injurious distances are reported in this paper. A brief description is given of coagulative and hemorrhagic pathological changes under different exposure conditions and at various distances.

RESUMO

This report presents 29 cases of ocular injury (31 eyes) caused by accidental laser exposure. Twenty-eight eyes were injured during laser adjustment and alignment. Nineteen eyes were damaged by Q-switched lasers at a wavelength of 1064 nm. Macula damage occurred in 25 eyes. During the early phase after injury, there were different degrees of retinal coagulation, edema or hemorrhage in exposed spots and there occurred immediate reduction of visual acuity. Effusion of blood and exudate was absorbed in most injured eyes under treatment lasting several weeks; meanwhile, gray-white scars appeared. Macular holes appeared in seven cases a week after injury, thus extending the course of the injury. Nine cases (10 eyes) were followed-up for 4-10 y, during which time the condition of eight cases (nine eyes) remained stable. The causes of the laser accidents and the relationship between the damage effects and exposure doses were analyzed.
