RESUMO

Reference intervals (RIs) of laboratory testing play a fundamental role in medical activities. RIs vary greatly for populations in different areas This study aimed to evaluate the age- and sex-specific reference intervals for a healthy population in a typical city of northern China. A cross-sectional study was performed in 4 tertiary care centers of Shijiazhuang of China, biochemical analytes were analyzed using a Beckman Coulter AU5800 (Beckman Coulter Inc., Brea, CA). A total of 42,979 healthy individuals were involved in this study. Grouped by age- and sex-specific, reference intervals of all the measures have been established. We found that different age groups of males and females have significant differences (all P < .001) in levels of various biochemical analytes. We provided a comprehensive age- and sex-specific RIs for biochemical analytes, which showed dynamic changes with both age and sex. For the local population, the reference intervals established here can be adopted in other clinical laboratories after appropriate validation.

RESUMO

Combining information from multispectral images into a fused image is informative and beneficial for human or machine perception. Currently, multiple photodetectors with different response bands are used, which require complicated algorithms and systems to solve the pixel and position mismatch problem. An ideal solution would be pixel-level multispectral image fusion, which involves multispectral image using the same photodetector and circumventing the mismatch problem. Here we presented the potential of pixel-level multispectral image fusion utilizing colloidal quantum dots photodiode array, with a broadband response range from X-ray to near infrared and excellent tolerance for bending and X-ray irradiation. The colloidal quantum dots photodiode array showed a specific detectivity exceeding 1012 Jones in visible and near infrared range and a favorable volume sensitivity of approximately 2 × 105 µC Gy-1 cm-3 for X-ray irradiation. To showcase the advantages of pixel-level multispectral image fusion, we imaged a capsule enfolding an iron wire and soft plastic, successfully revealing internal information through an X-ray to near infrared fused image.

Broflanilide is a novel meta-diamide insecticide that acts as a γ-aminobutyric acid-gated chloride channel allosteric modulator. With its unique mode of action, broflanilide has no known cross-resistance with existing insecticides and is expected to be an effective tool for the management of insecticide resistance. Establishing the baseline susceptibility to this insecticide is an essential step for developing and implementing effective resistance management strategies. Here we evaluated the baseline susceptibility to broflanilide for 3 cosmopolitan lepidopteran pest species, Helicoverpa armigera, Plutella xylostella, and Spodoptera frugiperda. Broflanilide exhibited high activity against populations sampled in the major distribution range of these pests in China, with median lethal concentrations (LC50 ) ranging between 0.209 and 0.684, 0.076 and 0.336, and 0.075 and 0.219 mg/L for H. armigera, P. xylostella, and S. frugiperda, respectively. Among-population variability in susceptibility to broflanilide was moderate for H. armigera (3.3-fold), P. xylostella (4.4-fold), and S. frugiperda (2.9-fold). The recommended diagnostic concentrations for H. armigera, P. xylostella, and S. frugiperda were 8, 4, and 2 mg/L, respectively. Little or no cross-resistance to broflanilide was detected in 3 diamide-resistant strains of P. xylostella and 1 spinosyns-resistant strain of S. frugiperda. Our results provide critical information for the development of effective resistance management programs to sustain efficacy of broflanilide against these key lepidopteran pests.

Cartilage, a type of connective tissue, plays a crucial role in supporting and cushioning the body, and damages or diseases affecting cartilage may result in pain and impaired joint function. In this regard, biocompatible materials are used in cartilage tissue healing and regeneration as scaffolds for new tissue growth, barriers to prevent infection and reduce inflammation, and deliver drugs or growth factors to the injury site. In this article, we perform a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of literature on cartilage tissue healing and regeneration based on biocompatible materials, including an overview of current research, identifying the most influential articles and authors, discussing prevailing topics and trends in this field, and summarizing future research directions.

In recent years, perovskite has received increasing attention in the medical field. However, there has been a lack of related bibliometric analysis in this research field. This study aims to analyse the research status and hot topics of perovskite in the medical field from a bibliometric perspective and explore the research direction of perovskite. This study collected 1852 records of perovskite research in the medical field from 1983 to 2022 in the Web of Science (WOS) database. The country, institution, journal, cited references, and keywords were analysed using CiteSpace, VOS viewer, and Bibliometrix software. The number of articles related to perovskite research in the medical field has been increasing every year. China and USA have published the most papers and are the main forces in this research field. The University of London Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine is the most active institution and has contributed the most publications. ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces is the most prolific journal in this field. "Medical electronic devices", "X-rays", and "piezoelectric materials" are the most researched directions of perovskite in the medical field. "Performance", "perovskite", and "solar cells" are the most frequently used keywords in this field. Advanced Materials is the most relevant and academically influential journal for perovskite research. Halide perovskites have been a hot topic in this field in recent years and will be a future research trend. X-ray, electronic medical equipment, and medical stents are the main research directions.

Spinosyn insecticides (spinosad and spinetoram) have been widely used to control a number of agricultural pests including the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda. Mutations of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor α6 subunit (nAChRα6) have been reported to confer high levels of resistance to spinosyns in several insect pests. Here we used CRISPR-mediated gene knockout to determine the involvement of S. frugiperda nAChRα6 (Sfα6) in spinosyns susceptibility. A Sfα6 knockout strain of S. frugiperda (Sfα6-KO) was established using dual single guide RNA (sgRNA) directed large fragment deletion with the CRISPR/Cas9 system. Sfα6-KO showed high levels of resistance to spinosad (307-fold) and spinetoram (517-fold) compared with the progenitor strain YJ-19, while no resistance was observed to emamectin benzoate, indoxacarb, chlorfenapyr, chlorantraniliprole and broflanilide. Genetic analyses confirmed that spinosad resistance in Sfα6-KO was autosomal, incompletely recessive and tightly linked to the edited deletion mutation of Sfα6. Our results provided in vivo functional evidence for Sfα6 as the major target of spinosyns against S. frugiperda, and demonstrated that disruption of Sfα6 causes high level resistance to spinosyns. Although no mutations of Sfα6 have yet been reported in any field populations of S. frugiperda, it is critical to develop F1 screens and/or DNA-based methods to detect and monitor the mutant allele frequencies of Sfα6 across global populations of S. frugiperda.

Objective: This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the incidence and associated factors of complex regional pain syndrome type I (CRPS I) in patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for radial head fractures. Methods: The study enrolled 601 radial head fracture patients treated with ORIF, 523 of which completed the 1-year follow-up. The incidence of CRPS I in those patients was assessed using the Budapest criteria. Patients were then divided into 2 groups: patients with CRPS I (n = 28) and patients without CRPS I (n = 495). The patients' demographic and clinical data before the operation were prospectively collected by our team. Independent t-tests and χ 2 tests were used as univariate analyses to compare the demographic and clinical data between the two groups. Meanwhile, multivariate regression analysis was conducted to identify the associated risk factors for CRPS I. Results: The incidence of CRPS I in patients with radial head fractures treated with ORIF was 5.5% during the first year following surgery. Significant differences were observed in age, gender, type of trauma, modified Mason Classification, and depressive personality disorders. The logistic regression analysis revealed that the female gender, modified Mason type III fractures, and depressive patients were significantly more likely to develop CRPS I (p=0.021, 0.023, and 0.025, respectively). Conclusions: The incidence of CRPS I among radial head fracture patients undergoing ORIF was 5.5%. In addition, early detection of CRPS I and providing adequate intervention will likely result in greater benefits for those patients.

SnO2 hollow nanofibers with different amount of La-doped were prepared by electrostatic spinning method. Their composition, morphology and structure were characterized by XRD, SEM, BET and XPS respectively and their gas sensing properties were also investigated. The results showed that the hollow nanofibers with the molar ratio of tin to La of 7% had the best sensitivity to ammonia of 500 ppm at the temperature of 300 °C, and the sensitivity value reached 480, which was 10 times that of pure SnO2. And its response time was also significantly shortened.

High-speed digital imaging (HSDI) of the larynx can provide important information on the vocal fold kinematics. This information is useful and may provide a better understanding of the mechanism of phonation and assist clinical assessment of voice disorders. Automatic tracing of the vocal fold vibration is a key step in the kinematic analysis and for correlative characterization of vocal fold vibrations and voice quality in normal and diseased states. In this study, we introduce a new approach for image segmentation and automatic tracing of vocal fold motion that combines the level set method and motion cue. This approach is applied to videokymogram (VKG)-form images, which are obtained from a sequence of laryngeal images captured using the HSDI. To utilize the motion cue for a more effective level set based segmentation on the VKG, we first construct a so-called standard deviation (STD) image by mapping the pixel-based measure of temporal intensity dispersion from the initial HSDI sequence. The STD image maps the extent of vocal fold motion, and followed by threshold operation, a region of interest (ROI) that encloses vocal fold motion, or glottal region, is identified. The performance and effectiveness of our approach are evaluated by using clinical datasets representing both normal and pathological voice conditions.
