RESUMO

Background: More than 30 articles concerning spiders' diversity and assemblages' structure within the Visimskiy Reserve have been published since its establishment 52 years ago. The literature provides data on 260 recorded species, one of which has been described as a new species. The majority of these records were not annotated. The peak of publication activity was in the 2nd part of the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century. The greatest amount of material was collected between 2012 and 2018, within long-term plots with quantitative observations of epigean and litter-dwelling spiders, focusing on wind-throw and post-fire successions. New information: This article summarises all the literature and field primary data. We also list 18 species new to the reserve's fauna, which currently comprises 278 species. Doubtful and invalid records have been excluded from the species list. The occurrences in the dataset are supported by detailed information about vegetation cover at the time of collection. This is important in the context of research on fauna and community changes along the vegetation succession, including wind-thrown and post-fire restoration.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The dataset contains records of small mammals (Eulipotyphla and Rodentia) collected in the background (unpolluted) areas in the vicinity of Karabash copper smelter (Southern Urals, Russia) and the territory of the Sultanovskoye deposit of copper-pyrite ores before the start of its development. Data were collected during the snowless periods in 2007 (18 sampling plots), 2008-2010 (13 plots annually), 2011 (30 plots) and 2012-2014 (19 plots annually). The capture of animals was carried out in different types of forests (pine, birch, mixed and floodplain), sparse birch stands, reed swamps, marshy and dry meadows, border areas, a household waste dump, areas of ruderal vegetation and a temporary camp. Our study of small mammals was conducted using trap lines (snap and live traps). During the study period, 709 specimens of small mammals were caught, which belonged to five species of shrews and 13 species of rodents. The dataset may be highly useful for studying regional fauna and the distribution of species in different habitats and could also be used as reference values for environmental monitoring and conservation activities. NEW INFORMATION: Our dataset contains new information on occurrences of small mammals. It includes the peculiarities of their habitat distribution in the background areas in the vicinity of the large copper smelter and the deposit of copper-pyrite ores before the start of its development (Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia). All occurrence records of 18 mammal species with georeferencing have been published in GBIF.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The long-term project "Spiders of the Udmurt Republic" (2007-2018) aimed to research spiders' regional fauna and zoogeography, diversity (including spatial and seasonal patterns) and habitat preferences. We performed the collection of spiders in all natural zones of the republic, habitats and vegetation layers, both at permanent sampling plots and through ad-hoc sampling en route. NEW INFORMATION: The dataset includes occurrences from 53 geographical points with 10,500 records and more than 35,000 specimens. This increases the existing data on Russian spiders on GBIF by four times, from 11,000 (excluding iNaturalist observations) to 46,000. The dataset allows for the exploration of regional fauna, local and general species distribution, spider phenology and habitat preferences for the purposes of monitoring and conservation.
