RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Splenic localisation of sarcoidosis is common but rare as unique location. We report a case diagnosed by US-guided biopsy. OBSERVATION: A 42-year-old woman presented atypic and recidivant epigastric pain. Abdominal ultrasound showed splenic hypoechoic nodules not characterizable with CT or MRI. PET-CT revealed hypermetabolism without any other abnormal metabolic activity. US-guided biopsy with small needle achieved diagnosis of isolated splenic sarcoidosis. CONCLUSION: Diagnosis of splenic nodular sarcoidosis can be challenging without any other localization. Splenic biopsy achieved diagnosis. This procedure is associated with a low risk of complications - in particular hemorragic ones. Diagnostic splenectomy should be an exceptional intervention.

RESUMO

The evaluation of the development of young children had to consider the possible detection of neurodevelopmental disorders in particular autism spectrum disorders. When a child of 18 months has a developmental language delay or a defect in social contact, the hypothesis of autism must be considered through a clinical evaluation. We will point out some clinical guidelines and some early signs to detect the trouble and to propose early treatment interventions. This will help to develop specific skills of the child aiming at influencing positively clinical evolution and reducing mental retardation.

INTRODUCTION: Tooth agenesis is a phenomenon that occurs relatively commonly. The incidence of the missing teeth presented in the previous reports varies according to the studied population. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to find the prevalence of tooth agenesis in a population group in Bucharest. METHODS AND RESULTS: The prevalence and distribution of dental agenesis was determined in a sample of 518 patients, 285 females and 233 males, aged 6 to 41 years, who had been treated in the Clinic of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Bucharest. The tooth agenesis was diagnosed by using the orthodontic records and study casts for each patient. 35 of the patients, 17 males and 18 females, were diagnosed with at least one absent permanent tooth and 47 missing permanent teeth were reported. A prevalence of 6.757% was observed for tooth agenesis. The mandibular second premolar was found to be the most affected tooth, followed by the maxillary lateral incisor, maxillary second premolar, mandibular central incisors, mandibular second molar and mandibular lateral incisor. DISCUSSION: The incidence of dental agenesis, its pattern and distribution per tooth type are in accordance with the previous published studies.

RESUMO

Widening of the upper jaw by undoing the median suture is a relatively common clinical procedure and the histological studies on sutural tissues, both immediately after disjunction and post disjunction are relatively rare. The present research aims to study cellular changes caused after undoing the median maxillary suture, on a strain of common rabbit breed, in an attempt to prove that the purpose of this therapeutic technique is obtaining neoformed osseous tissue, as a guarantee of the stability of orthodontic treatment results. Of course, changes in rabbit desmale tissues cannot be fully assimilated to the human ones.

RESUMO

If, not long time ago, the simple prosthetic rehabilitation of an edentulous patient--with or without additional maxillary teeth abnormalities--was the only therapeutic solution, presently, the pre-prosthetic orthodontic treatment enabling the dental restoration treatment meets the basic requirements of any dental treatment, i.e. the (re)set-up of the morphological and functional integrity and the functions of jaws, with minimum biological sacrifice.

RESUMO

Twenty-eight patients with histologically proven reflux esophagitis were randomly allocated to receive either De-Nol (tripotassium dicitrate bismuthate) or placebo for three weeks. Significant decreases in symptoms frequency and severity were noted in De-Nol group comparing with placebo group (p less than 0.01). Objective improvement in esophageal endoscopic appearance was obtained in 78.5% of the patients treated with De-Nol and only in 14.2% of those receiving placebo. De-Nol appears to be an effective drug in the treatment of reflux esophagitis, but this should be confirmed by further studies.

RESUMO

The reactivity of thyroid cancer cells treated with estradiol (E) and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHA) in the presence of other hormones (TSH, STH, insulin), myopeptide and some pesticides (aminotriazole--ATA, atrazine--ATZ, prometryne--P and ATC) proved to be active in the culture medium. Protein synthesis in sclerosing folliculo-papillary cancer cells under the treatment applied is more markedly inhibited by DHA than by E in the culture medium is compared to the control lots. Tg1 and T3 release into the culture medium under the action of T4 and TSH decreases progressively going from the control to the treated lots, in the presence of E and DHA. STH inhibits Tg1 and T3 secretion in thyroid follicular carcinoma, whether or not E or DHA are present in the culture medium.
