RESUMO

High spatial-resolution detection is essential for biomedical applications and human-machine interaction. However, as the sensor array density increases, the miniaturization will lead to interference between adjacent units and deterioration in sensing performance. Here, inspired by the cochlea's sensing structure, a high-density flexible pressure sensor array featuring with suspended sensing membrane with sensitivity-enhanced customized channels is presented for crosstalk-free and high-resolution detection. By imitating the basilar membrane attached to spiral ligaments, a sensing membrane is fixed onto a high-stiffness substrate with cavities, forming a stable braced isolation to provide an excellent crosstalk-free capability (crosstalk coefficient: 47.24 dB) with high-density integration (100 units within 1 cm2). Similar to the opening of ion channels in hair cells, the wedge-type expansion of the embedded cracks introduced by stress concentration structures enables a high sensitivity (0.19 kPa-1) and a large measuring range (400 kPa). Finally, it demonstrates promising applications in distributed displays and the condition monitoring of medical-surgical intubation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Perineural invasion (PNI) has been used as an important pathological indicator and independent prognostic factor for patients with rectal cancer (RC). Preoperative prediction of PNI status is helpful for individualized treatment of RC. Recently, several radiomics studies have been used to predict the PNI status in RC, demonstrating a good predictive effect, but the results lacked generalizability. The preoperative prediction of PNI status is still challenging and needs further study. AIM: To establish and validate an optimal radiomics model for predicting PNI status preoperatively in RC patients. METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled 244 postoperative patients with pathologically confirmed RC from two independent centers. The patients underwent pre-operative high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) between May 2019 and August 2022. Quantitative radiomics features were extracted and selected from oblique axial T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and contrast-enhanced T1WI (T1CE) sequences. The radiomics signatures were constructed using logistic regression analysis and the predictive potential of various sequences was compared (T2WI, T1CE and T2WI + T1CE fusion sequences). A clinical-radiomics (CR) model was established by combining the radiomics features and clinical risk factors. The internal and external validation groups were used to validate the proposed models. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), DeLong test, net reclassification improvement (NRI), integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the model performance. RESULTS: Among the radiomics models, the T2WI + T1CE fusion sequences model showed the best predictive performance, in the training and internal validation groups, the AUCs of the fusion sequence model were 0.839 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.757-0.921] and 0.787 (95%CI: 0.650-0.923), which were higher than those of the T2WI and T1CE sequence models. The CR model constructed by combining clinical risk factors had the best predictive performance. In the training and internal and external validation groups, the AUCs of the CR model were 0.889 (95%CI: 0.824-0.954), 0.889 (95%CI: 0.803-0.976) and 0.894 (95%CI: 0.814-0.974). Delong test, NRI, and IDI showed that the CR model had significant differences from other models (P < 0.05). Calibration curves demonstrated good agreement, and DCA revealed significant benefits of the CR model. CONCLUSION: The CR model based on preoperative MRI radiomics features and clinical risk factors can preoperatively predict the PNI status of RC noninvasively, which facilitates individualized treatment of RC patients.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: This case report discusses the CT-guided percutaneous drainage of a pancreatic pseudocyst accompanied by a pseudoaneurysm. Pancreatic pseudocysts can erode the peripancreatic artery and produce pseudoaneurysms. This is rare, but it can be life-threatening. PATIENT CONCERNS: The case presented involves a 58-year-old female who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent surgical treatment. She presented with hematochezia, dizziness, and hypodynamic findings with no obvious cause. Imaging revealed a pancreatic pseudocyst and small arterial aneurysms. To reduce the risk of aneurysm rupture, the patient underwent transcatheter arterial coil embolization. Three days later, CT-guided catheter drainage was performed to reduce the erosion of the arterial wall caused by pancreatic fluid. DIAGNOSES: The contrast-enhanced-CT imaging showed a round, slightly high-density lesion in the cyst, suggesting the presence of a pseudoaneurysm. INTERVENTIONS: The patient was sent for another transcatheter arterial embolization with coils and n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate. OUTCOMES: After receiving the transcatheter arterial embolization, the patient had no serious bleeding or other complications. LESSONS: Early detection and accurate assessment of pseudoaneurysms are essential for appropriate management. This case shows that contrast-enhanced CT is necessary before CT-guided percutaneous drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts. It also shows that, due to the many complications that pancreatic pseudocysts may cause, appropriate treatment of pseudocysts complicated with pseudoaneurysm has important clinical significance.

RESUMO

With the increasing integration density of silicon-based circuits, traditional electrical interconnections have shown their technological limitations. In recent years, GeSn materials have attracted great interest due to their potential direct bandgap transition and compatibility with silicon-based technologies. GeSn materials, including GeSn films, GeSn alloys, and GeSn nanowires, are adjustable, scalable, and compatible with silicon. GeSn nanowires, as one-dimensional (1D) nanomaterials, including out-of-plane GeSn nanowires and in-plane GeSn nanowires, have different properties from those of bulk materials due to their distinctive structures. However, the synthesis and potential applications of out of plane GeSn nanowires are rarely compared to highlighting their current development status and research trends in relevant review papers. In this article, we present the preparation of out-of-plane GeSn nanowires using top-down (etching and lithography) and bottom-up (vapor-liquid-solid) growth mechanism in the vapor-phase method and supercritical fluid-liquid-solid, solution-liquid-solid, and solvent vapor growth mechanisms in the liquid-phase method) methods. Specifically, the research progress on typical out of plane GeSn nanowires are discussed, while some current development bottlenecks are also been identified. Finally, it is also provided a brief description of the applications of out-of-plane GeSn nanowires with various Sn contents and morphologies.

RESUMO

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) are common bone-immune diseases. The imbalance between helper (Th17) and regulatory T cells (Tregs) produced during differentiation of CD4+ T cells plays a key regulatory role in bone remodelling disorders in RA and PMOP. However, the specific regulatory mechanism of this imbalance in bone remodelling in RA and PMOP has not been clarified. Identifying the regulatory mechanism underlying the Th17/Treg imbalance in RA and PMOP during bone remodelling represents a key factor in the research and development of new drugs for bone immune diseases. In this review, the potential roles of Th17, Treg, and Th17/Treg imbalance in regulating bone remodelling in RA and PMOP have been summarised, and the potential mechanisms by which probiotics, traditional Chinese medicine compounds, and monomers maintain bone remodelling by regulating the Th17/Treg balance are expounded. The maintenance of Th17/Treg balance could be considered as an therapeutic alternative for the treatment of RA and PMOP. This study also summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of conventional treatments and the quality of life and rehabilitation of patients with RA and PMOP. The findings presented her will provide a better understanding of the close relationship between bone immunity and bone remodelling in chronic bone diseases and new ideas for future research, prevention, and treatment of bone immune diseases.

RESUMO

Background: Our objective was to assess the viability and oncological security of a gasless, transaxillary single-incision endoscopic procedure for performing total thyroidectomy and bilateral central neck dissection (TT + BCND). This study focused on patients diagnosed with bilateral papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). Method: Between April 2020 and November 2021, 22 patients with bilateral PTMC underwent single-incision, gasless, transaxillary endoscopic TT + BCND. The patients' clinicopathologic characteristics, surgical completeness and complications were analyzed. Result: Single-incision, gasless, transaxillary endoscopic TT + BCND was successful performed in all patients. The median (IQR) total surgical time was 143 (85-160) min. Only two patients experienced transient unilateral RLN palsy or transient hypocalcemia. All these complications resolved within 1 month after surgery. The median duration of hospital stay after surgery was 4 (3-4.5) days. The median hospitalization expense for these patients was 3848 (3781-4145) USD. The median number of lymph node yielded was 10.5 (8-15). The cosmetic outcomes were well-received by all individuals. Conclusion: In certain cases, gasless, transaxillary endoscopic TT + BCND procedure performed through a single incision proved to be a secure alternative for managing bilateral PTMC.

RESUMO

In the era of information, characterized by an exponential growth in data volume and an escalating level of data abstraction, there has been a substantial focus on brain-like chips, which are known for their robust processing power and energy-efficient operation. Memristors are widely acknowledged as the optimal electronic devices for the realization of neuromorphic computing, due to their innate ability to emulate the interconnection and information transfer processes witnessed among neurons. This review paper focuses on memristor-based neuromorphic chips, which provide an extensive description of the working principle and characteristic features of memristors, along with their applications in the realm of neuromorphic chips. Subsequently, a thorough discussion of the memristor array, which serves as the pivotal component of the neuromorphic chip, as well as an examination of the present mainstream neural networks, is delved. Furthermore, the design of the neuromorphic chip is categorized into three crucial sections, including synapse-neuron cores, networks on chip (NoC), and neural network design. Finally, the key performance metrics of the chip is highlighted, as well as the key metrics related to the memristor devices are employed to realize both the synaptic and neuronal components.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: It is uncertain how COVID-19 outbreak influences the hepatitis B epidemics. This study aims to evaluate the effects on hepatitis B owing to the COVID-19 outbreak and forecast the hepatitis B epidemiological trend in mainland China to speed up the course of the "End viral hepatitis Strategy". METHODS: We estimated the causal impacts and created a forecast through adopting monthly notifications of hepatitis B each year from 2005 to 2020 in mainland China using the Bayesian structural time series (BSTS) method. RESULTS: The hepatitis B epidemics fluctuates irregularly during the period 2005-2007(APC = 8.7, P = 0.246) and 2015-2020(APC = 1.7, P = 0.290), and there is a downturn (APC=-3.2, 95% CI -5.2 to -1.2, P = 0.006) from 2007 to 2015 in mainland China. The COVID-19 outbreak was found to have a monthly average reduction on the hepatitis B epidemics of 26% (95% CI 18-35%) within the first three months in 2020,17% (95% CI 7.7-26%) within the first six months in 2020, and 10% (95% CI19-22%) all year as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, (probability of causal effect = 96.591%, P = 0.034) and the forecasts showed an upward trend from 2021 to 2025 (annual percentage change = 4.18, 95% CI 4.0 to 4.3, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The COVID-19 has a positive effect on the decline of hepatitis B cases. And the potential of BSTS model to forecast the epidemiological trend of the hepatitis B can be applied in automatic public health policymaking in mainland China.

RESUMO

Memristors are considered the best candidates for nonvolatile memory and advanced computing technologies, and polymer and two-dimensional (2D) materials have been developed as functional layer materials in memristors with high-performance resistive switching characteristics. In this work, a polymer memristor with a graphene (Gr)-doped poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composite acting as the functional layer was prepared. The memristor device exhibited superior performance with good retention and a comparatively large ON/OFF ratio at room temperature. Additionally, excellent logic operations were achieved. These satisfactory properties can be attributed to trap-induced carrier trapping and detrapping. In addition, the device exhibited stable bipolar resistive switching behavior over a moderate temperature range. This work provides insight into the transmission mechanism of polymer-based memristors and the reasons why they become unstable at high temperatures, demonstrating the potential applications of PVA-Gr-based polymer memristors as logic circuit units in integrated chips and artificial intelligence.

RESUMO

Botrytis cinerea is a broad-host-range necrotrophic phytopathogen responsible for serious diseases in leading crops worldwide. The novel sterol 14α-demethylase inhibitor (DMI) pyrisoxazole was recently registered for the control of tomato gray mold caused by B. cinerea in China. One hundred fifty-seven isolates of B. cinerea were collected from tomato greenhouses in 14 cities of Liaoning Province from 2016 to 2021 and examined for sensitivity to pyrisoxazole, with a mean EC50 value of 0.151 µg/ml. Three highly resistant isolates, XD-5, DG-4, and GQ-3, were screened, and the EC50 values were 0.734, 0.606, and 0.639 µg/ml with corresponding resistance factors of 12.88, 10.63, and 11.21, respectively. Compared with field-sensitive strains, the highly resistant isolate XD-5 exhibited fitness defects in traits, including mycelial growth, conidial production, and pathogenicity, but DG-4 and GQ-3 did not experience fitness costs. Positive cross-resistance was observed only between pyrisoxazole and the DMIs tebuconazole and prochloraz but not between pyrisoxazole and the non-DMIs iprodione, procymidone, pyrimethanil, fludioxonil, fluazinam, and fluopyram. Sequence alignment of the CYP51 gene indicated that three point mutations were observed in the highly resistant mutant, namely, V24I in XD-5, G461S in GQ-3, and R464K in DG-4. When exposed to pyrisoxazole, the induced expression levels of the ABC transporter AtrD and MFS transporter Mfs1 increased in the resistant isolates compared with those in the sensitive isolates, whereas the expression level of the CYP51 gene did not change significantly. Molecular docking suggested that the G461S and R464K mutations both led to a decrease in the binding energy between CYP51 and pyrisoxazole, whereas no change was found with the V24I mutation. Thus, two point mutations in the CYP51 protein combined with induced expression of the Mfs1 and AtrD genes appeared to mediate the pyrisoxazole resistance of the highly resistant mutants DG-4 and GQ-3, while the overexpression of the Mfs1 and AtrD genes was responsible for the highly resistant mutant XD-5.

RESUMO

Background/objectives: Recently, four meta-analyses have explored the association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the risk of stroke. These studies have demonstrated that people with IBD may be at an increased risk of stroke. However, some limitations such as high heterogeneity and the lack of uniformity in the types of research, especially the reuse of some sample sizes, cannot be neglected. These factors reduce the credibility of their research conclusions. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to explore this possible association. Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched from inception to 30 June 2023. A random effects model with the generic inverse variance method was used in this meta-analysis. The Review Manager software was used to obtain all relative risks (RRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Publication bias was tested, and sensitivity and subgroup analyses were conducted to explore possible heterogeneities. Results: This meta-analysis included 12 cohort studies (involving 4,495,055 individuals). Meta-analysis of these data has shown that IBD was associated with an increased risk of stroke (RR = 1.19, 95%CI:1.14-1.24, p < 0.00001). Our results were stable and robust in subgroup and sensitivity analyses. Conclusions: Our results suggest that IBD is associated with an increased risk of stroke. To reduce the incidence of stroke, patients with IBD are encouraged to undergo stroke risk assessments, especially for young female patients; assessing the risk of ischemic stroke is of particular importance. Prospective studies considering stroke subtypes, IBD severity and treatments, regions, and other confounding factors are needed to further explore the nature of each association. RESUMO

In-sensor and near-sensor computing are becoming the next-generation computing paradigm for high-density and low-power sensory processing. To fulfil a high-density and efficient neuromorphic visual system with fully hierarchical emulation of the retina and visual cortex, emerging multimodal neuromorphic devices for multi-stage processing and a fully hardware-implemented system with versatile image processing functions are still lacking and highly desirable. Here we demonstrate an emerging multimodal-multifunctional resistive random-access memory (RRAM) device array based on modified silk fibroin protein (MSFP), exhibiting both optoelectronic RRAM (ORRAM) mode featured by unique negative and positive photoconductance memory and electrical RRAM (ERRAM) mode featured by analogue resistive switching. A full hardware implementation of the artificial visual system with versatile image processing functions is realised for the first time, including ORRAM mode array for the in-sensor image pre-processing (contrast enhancement, background denoising, feature extraction) and ERRAM mode array for near-sensor high-level image recognition, which hugely improves the integration density, and simply the circuit design and the fabrication and integration complexity.

RESUMO

In this work, flower-like stannous sulfide (SnS) nanomaterials are synthesized using a hydrothermal method and used as sensitive materials for cataluminescence (CTL)-based detection of diethyl ether. Gas sensors based on SnS nanomaterials are prepared, and the SnS nanomaterials exhibit excellent gas-sensitive behavior towards ether. High sensitivity to ether is achieved at a relatively low operating temperature (153 °C) compared to other common sensors. The response time is 3 s and the recovery time is 8 s. The CTL intensity shows a good linear relationship (R2 = 0.9931) with a detection limit of 0.15 ppm and the concentration of ether in the range of 1.5-60 ppm. The proposed CTL sensor shows good selectivity towards ether. In addition, a highly stable signal is obtained with a relative standard deviation of 1.5%. This study indicates that the SnS-based sensor has excellent gas-sensitive performance and shows potential for applications in the detection of ether.

RESUMO

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of endogenous small non-coding RNAs. MicroRNAs-mediated signaling pathways play a critical regulatory role in inducing apoptosis, autophagy, and pyroptosis in developing knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Given this, we searched databases, such as PubMed, using keywords including "miRNA," "knee osteoarthritis," "apoptosis," "autophagy," "pyroptosis", and their combinations. Through an extensive literature review, we conclude that miRNAs can be modulated through various signaling pathways, such as Wnt/ß-catenin, TGF-ß, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, and NLRP3/Caspase-1, to regulate apoptosis, autophagy, and pyroptosis in KOA. Furthermore, we note that P2X7R and HMGB1 may be crucial regulatory molecules involved in the interconnected regulation of apoptosis, autophagy, and pyroptosis in KOA. Additionally, we describe that miR-140-5p and miR-107 can modulate the advancement of KOA chondrocytes by targeting distinct molecules involved in apoptosis, autophagy, and pyroptosis, respectively. Therefore, we conclude that miRNAs may be potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the early prediction, diagnosis, and effective therapeutic approaches of KOA.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In a previous study, we proposed a novel anatomy-based five-settlement method for transaxillary endoscopic thyroidectomy (fs-TAT) for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma. The safety of this new method has been reported in a retrospective study of a single cohort. The safety and short-term oncological outcome of this method was confirmed by comparing it with conventional open surgery (COT) in patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma. METHODS: The medical records of patients who underwent fs-TAT or COT by a single surgeon from February 2019 to December 2021 were reviewed retrospectively. All patients were diagnosed with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and underwent lobectomy and ipsilateral central compartment neck dissection. Propensity score matching was used to compare the technical safety and short-term oncologic outcomes of fs-TAT and COT for the purpose of reducing potential selection bias. Reporting was consistent with the STROCSS 2021 guidelines. RESULT: After propensity score matching, 460 (fs-TAT: 230; COT: 230) patients remained in the study population. There were no significant differences in sex, age, tumor size, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, or tumor multifocality between the groups. The operative time was longer [104.5 (90.3, 120.0) vs. 62.0 (52.0, 76.0), P < 0.001] and the total postoperative drainage volume [135(90, 210) vs. 75 (55, 115), P < 0.001] was greater in the fs-TAT group than in the COT group. However, intraoperative bleeding [3.0 (2.0, 5.0) vs. 5.0 (5.0, 7.5), P < 0.001] was greater, and the median number of lymph nodes yielded [5.0 (2.3, 8.0) vs. 7.0 (5.0, 11.0), P < 0.001] was greater in the COT group than in the fs-TAT group. The groups exhibited no significant difference in the rate of complications (fs-TAT: 2.2% vs. COT: 2.6%, P = 0.856), rate of positive lymph nodes (fs-TAT: 32.2% vs. COT: 36.5%, P = 0.377), length of postoperative hospital stay (3 days vs. 3 days, P = 0.305) or total medical costs (26,936 vs. 26,549, P = 0.144). CONCLUSION: Compared to conventional open surgery, fs-TAT offered excellent safety and acceptable short-term oncological outcomes in a selected cohort of patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.

RESUMO

In this paper, a cataluminescence (CTL) gas sensor based on flower-like molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is developed. The experimental results show that it has high sensitivity and selectivity to acetaldehyde. The CTL sensor has the advantage of fast response; the response time is about 3 s and the recovery time is about 40 s. The optimal working temperature of this sensor is 174 °C, which is lower than that of the CTL sensors used for acetaldehyde detection in many other reports. Under the optimized conditions, the CTL signal intensity shows a good linear relationship with acetaldehyde concentration (R2 = 0.9991) within the concentration range of 40-2000 ppm, and the detection limit (LOD) is 3.75 ppm. The selectivity experiment results show that the sensor has an obvious response to acetaldehyde and a very weak response to acetic acid, and has no response to many other VOCs (ether, cyclohexane, butyl ether, carbon tetrachloride, ethanol, toluene, formaldehyde, glycerol, trichloromethane and xylene). After 8 repeated measurements for four weeks, the relative standard deviation (RSD) of the CTL sensor is 1.03%, indicating that it has good reproducibility and stability, which shows that the CTL sensor has a promising prospect for the detection of acetaldehyde.

In this work, a series of clinoptilolite composites decorated with carbon quantum dots (CQDs/clinoptilolite) with hierarchical pore structures was demonstrated that exhibits good photocatalytic performance for the removal of xylene. The technique for the attachment of carbon quantum dots to clinoptilolite was prepared by a hydrothermal method in this study. The structural features were confirmed by SEM, TEM, EDS, XRD, BET, XPS, and solid diffuse reflection measurements, while the degradation mechanism was investigated by adding a trapping agent into the nanocomposites. The introduction of CQDs promoted the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes as well as the generation of reactive radicals, which effectively improved the light utilization and even increased the degradation rate of xylene by 73% at the optimal state. The photocatalytic test was conducted under a different dwell time, catalyst dosage, initial concentration, and illumination intensity. The results showed that the degradation rate of xylene by the CQDs/clinoptilolite catalyst reached 97.4% under the optimal reaction conditions (the catalyst was Catalyst No. 2, the residence time was 90 s, the initial concentration was 2.5 g/m3, the light intensity was three lamps for irradiation, and the catalyst dosage was 0.05 g). In addition, the degradation efficiency of the CQDs/clinoptilolite photocatalyst still reached 78% after eight consecutive catalytic regeneration cycles. This work sheds new light on the degradation of xylene.
