There is always a doubt that introducing water during oxide growing has a positive or negative effect on the properties of oxide films and devices. Herein, a comparison experiment on the condition of keeping the same oxygen atom flux in the sputtering chamber is designed to examine the influences of H2O on In-Sn-Zn-O (ITZO) films and their transistors. In comparison to no-water films, numerous unstable hydrogen-related defects are induced on with-water films at the as-deposited state. Paradoxically, this induction triggers an ordered enhancement in the microstructure of the films during conventional annealing, characterized by a reduction in H-related and vacancy (Vo) defects as well as an increase in film packing density and the M-O network ordering. Ultimately, the no-water thin-film transistors (TFTs) exhibit nonswitching behavior, whereas 5 sccm-water TFT demonstrates excellent electrical performance with a remarkable saturation field-effect mobility (µFE) of 122.10 ± 5.00 cm2·V-1·s-1, a low threshold (Vth) of -2.30 ± 0.40 V, a steep sub-threshold swing (SS) of 0.18 V·dec-1, a high output current (Ion) of 1420 µA, and a small threshold voltage shift ΔVth of -0.77 V in the negative bias stability test (3600 s).

Purpose: Exosomes are able to exchange their bioactive RNA cargo to recipient cells. In COPD, exosomes can be controlled and engineered for its use as targeted diagnostic and therapeutic tool. Our study explored novel lncRNAs and mRNAs in plasma exosomes that could be involved in the pathogenesis of COPD. Methods: High-throughput sequencing was conducted to detect the alterations in the expression of exosomal lncRNAs and mRNAs. Gene ontology (GO) functional analyses and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses were used to determine the significant functions and pathways associated with differentially expressed (DE) lncRNAs. The mRNA expression profile dataset, GSE76925, and microRNA expression profile dataset, GSE70080, were obtained from the GEO database. Venn diagrams were used to find common DE mRNAs between my mRNAs dataset and GSE76925. These common DEGs were subjected to PPI analyses to identify Hub genes. Subsequently, Venn diagrams were used to identify common genes between the target genes of DE-miRNAs and Hub genes as well as DE-miRNAs and my lncRNAs dataset. Finally, a lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA co-expression network was constructed by prediction using proprietary software. The lncRNA and mRNA expressions were then validated by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Results: We identified 1578 differentially regulated lncRNAs and 3071 differentially regulated mRNAs. GO and KEGG pathway analyses suggested that the DE lncRNAs are involved in the pathogenesis of COPD. A lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA meshwork was established to predict the potential interactions among these RNAs. RP3-329A5.8 and MRPS11 expression was then subjected to qRT-PCR for validation. Correlations between MRPS11 and clinic-pathological features were explored. Conclusion: Our study provided a set of lncRNAs and mRNAs that may be involved in the pathogenesis of COPD, thereby highlighting the need for further research on both diagnostic biomarkers and molecular mechanisms.

Internet addiction (IA) is a growing social concern and has been intensively studied in recent years. Previous imaging studies have shown that IA may impair brain structure and function, but with no robust conclusions. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of neuroimaging studies in IA. Two separate meta-analyses were conducted for voxel-based morphometry (VBM) studies and resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) studies. All meta-analyses were performed using two analysis methods activation likelihood estimation (ALE) and seed-based d mapping with permutation of subject images (SDM-PSI). The ALE analysis of VBM studies revealed less gray matter volume (GMV) in the supplementary motor area (SMA) (1176 mm3), anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) (one cluster size is 744 mm3 and the other is 688 mm3), and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) (624 mm3) in subjects with IA. The SDM-PSI analysis showed less GMV in the ACC (56 voxels). The ALE analysis of rsFC studies showed stronger rsFC from posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) (880 mm3) or insula (712 mm3) to the whole brain in subjects with IA; however, the SDM-PSI analysis revealed no obvious rsFC alteration. These changes may underlie the core symptoms of IA, which include emotional regulation disorder, distraction, and impaired executive control. Our results reflect the common features of neuroimaging studies related to IA in recent years and may potentially help inform the development of more effective diagnostic and treatment approaches.

A growing number of neuroimaging studies have revealed abnormal brain structural and functional alterations in subjects with internet addiction (IA), however, with conflicting conclusions. We plan to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis on the studies of voxelbased morphometry (VBM) and resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC), to reach a consolidated conclusion and point out the future direction in this field. A comprehensive search of rsFC and VBM studies of IA will be conducted in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to retrieve studies published from the inception dates to August 2021. If the extracted data are feasible, activation likelihood estimation and seed-based d mapping methods will be used to meta-analyze the brain structural and functional changes in IA patients. This study will hopefully reach a consolidated conclusion on the impact of IA on human brain or point out the future direction in this field.

Objectives: To quantitatively summarize the specific changes in brain structure and function in migraine patients. Methods: A literature screening of migraine was conducted from inception to Sept 1, 2022, in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Medline databases using the keyword combination of "migraine and MRI." Activation likelihood estimation (ALE) was performed to assess the differentiation of functional connectivity (FC), regional homogeneity (ReHo), and gray matter volume (GMV) of migraine patients. Results: Eleven voxel-based morphometry (VBM) studies and 25 resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI) studies (16 FC and 9 ReHo studies) were included in this study. ALE analysis revealed the ReHo increase in the brainstem and left thalamus, with no decreased area. Neither increased nor decreased regions were detected in FC and GMV of migraine patients. Conclusions: The left thalamus and brainstem were the significantly activated regions of migraine. It is a meaningful insights into the pathophysiology of migraine. The consistent alterated brain areas of morphometrical and functional in migraine patients were far from reached based on current studies.

Social media has been associated with decreased attention, memory, and learning abilities; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Dynamic function network connectivity (dFNC) analysis is suitable for uncovering dynamical brain activity. Besides, the effects of a cognitive task may persist for a while on the brain, even after the termination of the task, also known as the carryover effect. Consequently, we combined the dFNC analysis and cerebral carryover effects to study the brain dynamics of reading social media posts in the natural state and comparatively investigated the brain dynamics of reading science fiction on the smartphone. We performed functional MRI (fMRI) scans of all subjects at baseline and then assigned them a social media post or science fiction reading task. Immediately after, another fMRI scanning was performed for these subjects. We found that the change between dFNC states, the number of dFNC states, and the total distances increased after reading science fiction. Furthermore, the global, local, and nodal efficiencies of the deep-thinking state tended to increase after reading science fiction. On reading social media posts, the functional connectivity (FC) between the default mode network (DMN) and bilateral frontoparietal network (FPN) decreased, while the FC between DMN and visual network (VN) increased. Given the current evidence, we concluded that reading science fiction could substantially increase brain activity and network efficiency, while social media was related to abnormal FCs between DMN, VN, and FPN.

Unilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) adversely affects the quality of life, leading to increased risk of depression and cognitive decline. Our previous studies have mainly focused on the static brain function abnormalities in SSNHL patients. However, the dynamic features of brain activity in SSNHL patients are not elucidated. To explore the dynamic brain functional alterations in SSNHL patients, age- and sex- matched SSNHL patients (n = 38) and healthy controls (HC, n = 44) were enrolled. The dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) and dynamic amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (dALFF) methods were used to compare the temporal features and dynamic neural activity between the two groups. In dFC analyses, the multiple functional connectivities (FCs) were clustered into 2 different states; a greater proportion of FCs in SSNHL patients showed sparse state compared with HC. In dALFF analyses, SSNHL individuals exhibited decreased dALFF variability in bilateral inferior occipital gyrus, middle occipital gyrus, calcarine, right lingual gyrus, and right fusiform gyrus. dALFF variability showed a negative correlation with activated partial thromboplatin time. The dynamic characteristics of SSNHL patients were different from static functional connectivity and static amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation, especially within the visual cortices. These findings suggest that SSNHL patients experience cross-modal plasticity and visual compensation, which may be closely related to the pathophysiology of SSNHL.

Background: The use of social media daily could nurture a fragmented reading habit. However, little is known whether fragmented reading (FR) affects cognition and what are the underlying electroencephalogram (EEG) alterations it may lead to. Purpose: This study aimed to identify whether individuals have FR habits based on the single-trial EEG spectral features using machine learning (ML), as well as to find out the potential cognitive impairment induced by FR. Methods: Subjects were recruited through a questionnaire and divided into FR and noFR groups according to the time they spent on FR per day. Moreover, 64-channel EEG was acquired in Continuous Performance Task (CPT) and segmented into 0.5-1.5 s post-stimulus epochs under cue and background conditions. The sample sizes were as follows: FR in cue condition, 692 trials; noFR in cue condition, 688 trials; FR in background condition, 561 trials; noFR in background condition, 585 trials. For these single-trials, the relative power (RP) of six frequency bands [delta (1-3 Hz), theta (4-7 Hz), alpha (8-13 Hz), beta1 (14-20 Hz), beta2 (21-29 Hz), lower gamma (30-40 Hz)] were extracted as features. After feature selection, the most important feature sets were fed into three ML models, namely Support-Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), and Naive Bayes to perform the identification of FR. RP of six frequency bands was also used as feature sets to conduct classification tasks. Results: The classification accuracy reached up to 96.52% in the SVM model under cue conditions. Specifically, among six frequency bands, the most important features were found in alpha and gamma bands. Gamma achieved the highest classification accuracy (86.69% for cue, 86.45% for background). In both conditions, alpha RP in central sites of FR was stronger than noFR (p < 0.001). Gamma RP in the frontal site of FR was weaker than noFR in the background condition (p < 0.001), while alpha RP in parieto-occipital sites of FR was stronger than noFR in the cue condition (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Fragmented reading can be identified based on single-trial EEG evoked by CPT using ML, and the RP of alpha and gamma may reflect the impairment on attention and working memory by FR. FR might lead to cognitive impairment and is worth further exploration.

In this article, a new process for treating steel slag and CO2 simultaneously and preparing calcium carbonate, metallic iron, and glass ceramics without wastewater or gas production is proposed. The reduction of iron and preparation of diopside glass ceramics are studied in this paper, and the results show that the carbon thermal reduction product of the original slag does not reach its melting point, and the slag and iron are well separated in the samples containing the leached steel slag and added silica. Part of the parent glass is converted into a glass ceramic after heat treatment, and the crystalline phases of samples are melilite, diopside, and partial melilite, and diopside and anorthite, respectively. The crystallization activation energy of the best sample in this article is E = 660.664 kJ/mol. The Avrami indices calculated at different heating rates are all less than 3, which indicates that the crystallization mode of the glass involves surface crystallization. This finding is consistent with the results for the prepared glass ceramics.

BACKGROUND: Foxp3(+) T cells regulate inflammation and tumorigenesis. However, little is known about the role of different subsets of Foxp3(+) T cells in malignant or tuberculous hydrothorax. METHODS: The numbers of CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+), CD4(+)CD25(-)Foxp3(+) T cells and the levels of some inflammatory cytokines in patients with tuberculous hydrothorax, malignant hydrothorax, and healthy controls (HCs) were examined by flow cytometry and ELISA. The potential association between the numbers of different subsets of Foxp3 + T cells and the values of clinical measures were analyzed. RESULTS: The numbers of peripheral blood CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) T cells were greater in malignant hydrothorax patients than in HCs, but fewer than those of hydrothorax in patients. The percentages of circulating IL-10(+) or LAP(+) CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) T cells were higher than in the hydrothorax in patients with malignant hydrothorax. The numbers of circulating CD4(+)CD25(-)Foxp3(+) T cells were significantly fewer in patients with tuberculous hydrothorax than in HCs, and both the numbers of circulating CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) and CD4(+)CD25(-)Foxp3(+) T cells were significantly fewer than in the hydrothorax in patients. Significantly higher percentages of circulating IL-10(+) or LAP(+) CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) and CD4(+)CD25(-)Foxp3(+) T cells were detected in tuberculous hydrothorax patients. The numbers of CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) and CD4(+)CD25(-)Foxp3(+) T cells were associated with hydrothorax adenosine deaminase (ADA) levels in tuberculous hydrothorax patients, while CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) T cells were associated with carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA) in malignant hydrothorax patients. The concentrations of serum IL-6 and TGF-ß in the patients were significantly higher than that in the HCs, but lower than that in the corresponding hydrothorax. A similar pattern of IL-10 was observed in different groups, except that there was no significant difference in the levels of serum IL-10 between the tuberculous hydrothorax patients and HCs. CONCLUSIONS: CD4(+)CD25(-)Foxp3(+) T cells, which have lower inhibitory function than CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) T cells, may play a role in tuberculous hydrothorax.

The IL-33/sST2 axis is associated with inflammation and cardiac stress. This study examined the roles of serum IL-33/sST2 and other inflammatory cytokines in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, with or without chronic cor pulmonale (CCP). The levels of serum IL-33 and sST2 in 36 COPD patients without CCP, 42 cases with CCP, and 37 healthy controls (HCs) were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The concentrations of serum TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and IL-12 were analyzed by cytometric bead array. The pulmonary function was also determined. The levels of IL-33 in COPD patients were lower than in patients with CCP during the acute episode stage and HCs, and increased as patients transitioned into the stable phase, especially in patients whose modified medical research council scale values decreased. IL-33 levels were correlated positively with FEV1%pre, FVC%pre, FEF50%pre, and MMEF75/25%pre, while they correlated negatively with center airway resistance. There were no differences in the levels of sST2 among these groups. The concentrations of IL-6 and IL-10 in COPD patients during acute episodes were significantly higher, and decreased during stable phases. IL-33 may be considered an important factor in the pathogenesis of COPD, and decreased IL-33 levels may be an indicator of the pulmonary function decline of COPD patients.
