RESUMO

We report a method for using elemental sulfur to facilitate the cyclization of aryl hydrazones and aryl isothiocyanates, affording biorelated 2-imino-1,3,4-thiadiazoles. Reactions progressed in the presence of elemental sulfur, N-methylmorpholine base, and DMSO solvent, while were tolerant of a wide range of functionalities including halogen, nitro, cyano, methylsulfonyl, and heterocyclic groups. The method appears to offer a general pathway for using simple, cheap, and stable reagents to afford triaryl-substituted 2-imino-1,3,4-thiadiazoles under relatively mild conditions.

RESUMO

Nodal-line semimetals, characterized by Dirac-like crossings along one dimensionalk-space lines, represent a unique class of topological materials. In this study, we investigate the intriguing properties of room-temperature antiferromagneticMnC4and its nodal-line features both with and without spin-orbit coupling (SOC). In the absence of SOC, we identify a doubly degenerate Dirac-nodal line, robustly protected by a combination of time-reversal, mirror, and partial-translation symmetries. Remarkably, this nodal line withstands various external perturbations, including isotropic and anisotropic strain, and torsional deformations, due to the ionic-like bonding between Mn atoms and C clusters. With the inclusion of SOC, we observe a distinctive quasi-Dirac-nodal line that emerges due to the interplay between antiferromagnetism and SOC-induced spin-rotation symmetry breaking. Finally, we observed a robust spin Hall conductivity that aligns with the energy range where the quasi-nodal line appears. This study presents a compelling example of a robust symmetry-protected Dirac-nodal line antiferromagnetic monolayer, which has potential for applications in next-generation spintronic devices.

RESUMO

Adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer may involve some incidental exposure of the ipsilateral internal mammary artery to ionizing radiation. However, the relevant evidence is limited and inconsistent. The dataset presented in this article contains the information used to assess the effects of accidental radiation exposure on the internal mammary artery in patients with unilateral total mastectomy followed radiotherapy for breast cancer. The study population consists of two groups: the irradiated group and the control group. The left and right internal mammary arteries were assessed through the second intercostal spaces using a computed sonography system (Vivid S6; GE, Tirat Carmel, Israel) equipped with a 5.5 - 11 MHz transducer. The recorded parameters were the diameter, time-averaged maximum velocity, and blood flow of the internal mammary artery. The dataset contains two files of data: a raw and an analyzed data. The raw data file contains the individual information of each participant, including demographic characteristics and the parameters of the internal mammary artery duplex ultrasound imaging. The analyzed data file was made up of R Markdown, a markup language of R. The results of data analysis were presented in the related research article which has been accepted for publication in the Annals of Vascular Surgery. The dataset presented in this article may be reused for further studies in which the internal mammary artery is considered as potential donor or recipient vessels for a vascular bypass or free flap anastomosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Research into suicide-related out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) using OHCA registries is scant. A more complete understanding of methods, patient characteristics, and outcomes is essential to inform prehospital management strategies and public health interventions. METHODS: Included were all OHCA attended by Queensland Ambulance Service (Australia) paramedics between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2020, where suicide-related causes could be identified. Age- and sex-standardized incidence rates were calculated. Suicide methods, patient characteristics, and survival outcomes were described. Factors associated with survival outcomes were investigated. RESULTS: Seven thousand three hundred and fifty-six suicide-related OHCA cases were included. The incidence rates increased from 9.0 per 100,000 population in 2007 to 12.4 in 2020. The incidence rates for males were four times those for females; however, incidence rates for females have increased faster than for males. Hanging was the most common suicide method (63%). Twenty-three percent of patients received resuscitation attempts by paramedics. Among those, the rates of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) sustained to hospital arrival, survival to hospital discharge, and survival to 30 days were 28.6, 8.5, and 8.0%, respectively. Over time, the rates of ROSC upon hospital arrival increased, whereas the rates of survival to discharge and 30-day survival remained stable. CONCLUSION: The incidence of prehospital-identified suicide-related OHCA in Queensland has increased over time. The prognosis of suicide-related OHCA is poor. Prevention measures should focus on early identification and treatment of individuals having a high risk of suicide. Emergency medical services need to have sufficient training for telecommunicators and paramedics in suicide risk assessment and identification.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The effects of incidental radiation exposure on internal mammary arteries remain unclear. The present study was designed to test the hypothesis by comparing diameter and blood flow of the irradiated and nonirradiated internal mammary arteries, using Duplex ultrasound imaging. METHODS: The study was designed as a single-center, transversal, comparative study. The main outcomes were diameter and volumetric blood flow of the internal mammary arteries. The Wilcoxon rank-sum test was used to assess the differences between the irradiated and nonirradiated internal mammary arteries with regard to the diameter and volumetric blood flow. RESULTS: The diameter (median [interquartile range]) of the irradiated internal mammary arteries (0.170 mm [0.160, 0.180]) was smaller than that of the contralateral nonirradiated ones (0.180 mm [0.170, 0.200], P < 0.0001) and that of the internal mammary arteries in the control group (0.180 mm [0.170, 0.190], P < 0.0001). Similarly, blood flow (median [interquartile range]) of the irradiated internal mammary arteries (52.4 ml/min [37.78, 65.57]) was smaller than that of the contralateral nonirradiated ones (62.7 ml/min [46.87, 84.17], P < 0.0001), as well as of the left (56.7 ml/min [46.88, 72.58], P = 0.02) and the right internal mammary arteries in the control group (61.0 ml/min [47.47, 74.52], P = 0 0.0009). CONCLUSIONS: The data indicate that the irradiated internal mammary arteries in patients with a history of total mastectomy followed by radiotherapy for breast cancer had significantly smaller diameter and blood flow compared to the nonirradiated internal mammary arteries.

RESUMO

The prevalence of sarcopenia will inevitably increase as the population ages in Singapore, rendering it a growing public health concern with a significant impact on healthcare resources. This article firstly summarizes the current understanding of the epidemiology, diagnosis and management of sarcopenia, focusing on community-dwelling older individuals. Early identification is key to preventing and minimizing muscle loss. Appropriate interventions, including resistance exercise training, nutritional interventions and prehabilitation program, should be tailored to each patient. We suggest several key actions to ultimately improve awareness and overcome challenges in identifying and managing sarcopenia to improve patient outcomes. A paradigm shift where muscle health is seen as an integral component to maintaining good health with longer lifespan is needed. Education - of healthcare professionals and the public - serves as the foundation to improving awareness of muscle health and sarcopenia, and to promoting physical exercise across the age spectrum for sarcopenia prevention. The use of cost-effective evidence-based modalities (e.g., calf circumference measurement, 5-times chair stand test or bioelectric impedance assessment) enable early identification of muscle loss in routine practice. Providing subsidies for nutritional interventions (e.g., oral nutritional supplements) and exercise (e.g., ActiveSG gym membership) would encourage uptake of and adherence to interventions. Further high-quality research on interventions and their outcomes is important to determine the optimal strategy in different patient populations and to demonstrate clinical significance and value of addressing sarcopenia. Having local champions within healthcare institution would facilitate the much-needed change in healthcare culture where muscle health is a part of routine clinical practice.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The deliberate inhalation of volatile substances for their psychotropic properties is a recognised public health issue that can precipitate sudden death. This study aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics and survival outcomes of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrests following volatile substance use. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrest attended by the Queensland Ambulance Service over a ten-year period (2012-2021). Incidents were extracted from the Queensland Ambulance Service cardiac arrest registry, which collects clinical information using the Utstein-style guidelines and linked hospital data. RESULTS: During the study period, 52,102 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests were attended, with 22 (0.04%) occurring following volatile substance use. The incidence rate was 0.04 per 100,000 population, with no temporal trends identified. The most commonly used product was deodorant cans (19/22), followed by butane canisters (2/22), and nitrous oxide canisters (1/22). The median age of patients was 15 years (interquartile range 13-23), with 14/22 male and 8/22 Indigenous Australians. Overall, 16/22 patients received a resuscitation attempt by paramedics. Of these, 12/16 were bystander witnessed, 10/16 presented in an initial shockable rhythm, and 9/16 received bystander chest compressions. The rates of event survival, survival to hospital discharge, and survival with good neurological outcome (Cerebral Performance Category 1-2) were 69% (11/16, 95% CI 41-89%), 38% (6/16, 95% CI 15-65%) and 31% (5/16, 11-59%), respectively. Eight patients in the paramedic-treated cohort that used hydrocarbon-based products were administered epinephrine during resuscitation. Of these, none subsequently survived to hospital discharge. In contrast, all six patients that did not receive epinephrine survived to hospital discharge, with 5/6 having a good neurological outcome. CONCLUSION: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest following volatile substance use is rare and associated with relatively favourable survival rates. Patients were predominately aged in their adolescence with Indigenous Australians disproportionately represented.

RESUMO

To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of dupilumab in the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in China. A small sample self-controlled study before and after treatment was conducted to retrospective analysis patients with moderate to severe AD treated with dupilumab in the department of dermatology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from July 2020 to March 2022. Dupilumab 600 mg was injected subcutaneously at week 0, and then 300 mg was injected subcutaneously every 2 weeks. The condition was evaluated by SCORAD(severity scoring of atopic dermatitis), NRS(numerical rating scale), DLQI(dermatology life quality index) and POEM(patient-oriented eczema measure). The improvement of SCORAD, NRS, DLQI and POEM was analyzed by paired t test and non-parametric paired Wilcoxon. The results showed that a total of 67 patients with moderate to severe AD received dupilumab treatment, of which 41 patients (the course of treatment was more than 6 weeks) had reduced the severity of skin lesions, improved quality of life and reduced pruritus. A total of 23 patients completed 16 weeks of treatment. At 4, 8, 12 and 16 weeks, SCORAD, NRS, DLQI and POEM decreased compared with the baseline, and the differences were statistically significant. SCORAD (50.13±15.19) at baseline, SCORAD (36.08±11.96)(t=6.049,P<0.001) at week 4,SCORAD (28.04±11.10)(t=10.471,P<0.001) at week 8, SCORAD (22.93±9.72)(t=12.428,P<0.001) at week 12, SCORAD (16.84±7.82)(t=14.609,P<0.001) at week 16, NRS 7(6,8) at baseline, NRS 4(3,5)(Z=-3.861,P<0.001) at week 4, NRS 2(1,4)(Z=-4.088,P<0.001) at week 8, NRS 1(0,2)(Z=-4.206,P<0.001) at week 12, NRS 2(0,2)(Z=-4.222,P<0.001) at week 16, DLQI (13.83±5.71) at baseline, DLQI (8.00±4.02)(t=6.325,P<0.001) at week 4, DLQI (5.61±3.50)(t=8.060,P<0.001) at week 8, DLQI (3.96±1.99)(t=8.717,P<0.001) at week 12, DLQI (2.70±1.89)(t=10.355,P<0.001) at week 16, POEM (18.04±6.41) at baseline, POEM (9.70±4.70)(t=7.031,P<0.001) at week 4, POEM (7.74±3.48)(t=8.806,P<0.001) at week 8, POEM (6.35±3.33)(t=10.474,P<0.001) at week 12, POEM (4.26±2.51)(t=11.996,P<0.001) at week 16. In the 16th week, 100%(23 patients), 91.3%(21 patients), 34.8%(8 patients) and 8.7%(2 patients) of 23 patients reached SCORAD30, SCORAD50, SCORAD70, and SCORAD90 statuses, respectively. There were 82.6%(19 patients), 95.7%(22 patients) and 95.7%(22 patients) of 23 patients with NRS, DLQI and POEM improved by≥4 points compared with baseline. Twelve patients with AD who continued to receive dupilumab after 16 weeks showed further improvement in skin lesions. The adverse events were conjunctivitis and injection site reaction. In conclusion, dupilumab is an effective and safe treatment for moderate and severe AD. However, the longer-term efficacy and safety require further studies involving larger sample sizes and a longer follow-up time.

RESUMO

This paper investigates the security-reliability of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-assisted amplify-and-forward (AF) full-duplex (FD) relay networks. In practice, an AF-FD relay harvests energy from the source (S) using the power-splitting (PS) protocol. We propose an analysis of the related reliability and security by deriving closed-form formulas for outage probability (OP) and intercept probability (IP). The next contribution of this research is an asymptotic analysis of OP and IP, which was generated to obtain more insight into important system parameters. We validate the analytical formulas and analyze the impact on the key system parameters using Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, we propose a deep learning network (DNN) with minimal computation complexity and great accuracy for OP and IP predictions. The effects of the system's primary parameters on OP and IP are examined and described, along with the numerical data.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the immunophenotypic characteristics of gastric cancer microenvironment and analyze its correlation with clinicopathological parameters and prognosis of patients. Methods: The expression levels of leukocyte differentiation antigen (CD) 8, CD4, T lymphocyte immunoglobulin mucoprotein 3 (TIM3), human forkhead box protein P3 (Foxp3) and co-localized tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) were detected in 92 cases of gastric cancer tissue [58 males and 34 females; aged M(Q1, Q3), 70(59, 77) years ] and 84 cases of paracancer tissue [57 males and 27 females, aged 70(59, 77) years] purchased from Shanghai Xinchao Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and the samples were from 28 hospitals in the sample bank. Gastric cancer and adjacent tissues were divided into high expression group and low expression group according to the optimal cut-off value of positive lymphocytepercentage. The expression of immunophenotypes in gastric cancer and adjacent tissues was analyzed. Kaplan-Meier method was used for survival analysis. Cox proportional hazard model was used to explore the prognostic factors of gastric cancer patients. Results: The optimal cut-off values of CD8, CD4, TIM3 and Foxp3 positive cells in gastric cancer were 12.73%, 1.39%, 10.77% and 2.44%, respectively. The expression of Foxp3 in gastric cancer tissues was higher than that in paracancer tissues [M (Q1, Q3), 0.93 (0.45, 2.16) vs 0.31 (0.09, 0.86), P<0.001], and the expression of CD8 [4.92 (2.34, 8.80) vs 8.81 (6.61, 12.17), P<0.001], CD4 [4.79 (1.77, 11.36) vs 8.40 (4.84, 12.77), P=0.022] and TIM3 [5.68 (2.05, 11.58) vs 7.07 (3.13, 11.43), P=0.338] were lower than that in paracancer tissues. There were significant differences in TIM3 expression in gastric cancer patients with different lymph node metastasis and clinical stage (all P<0.05). The 5-year survival rate of patients with high CD4 expression, low TIM3 expression and low Foxp3 expression in gastric cancer tissues was poor, among which the high CD4 expression and low CD4 expression groups were 29.3% and 64.7%, respectively; The high and low TIM3 expression groups were 60.9% and 30.4%, respectively; The high and low Foxp3 expression groups were 64.3% and 33.3%, respectively (all P<0.05). The optimal cut-off values of CD8+TIM3+TILs, CD4+TIM3+TILs, CD8+Foxp3+TILs and CD4+Foxp3+TILs were 3.86%, 0.23%, 0.08% and 0.76%, respectively. Colocalization analysis showed that the expression of CD8+Foxp3+TILs in gastric cancer tissues was higher than that in adjacent tissues(all P<0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that high expression of CD4 (HR=3.079, 95%CI: 1.350-7.024,P=0.008), low expression of TIM3 (HR=0.428, 95%CI: 0.208-0.879, P=0.021) and low expression of Foxp3 (HR=0.288, 95%CI: 0.121-0.687, P=0.005) were the influencing factor for the 5-year survival rate of patients with gastric cancer after operation. Conclusions: Gastric cancer tissues have complex immune microenvironment characteristics. The expression of CD4, TIM3 and Foxp3 is closely related to the prognosis of patients.

RESUMO

AIM: Awareness of heart attack symptoms may enhance health-seeking behaviour and prevent premature deaths from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). We sought to investigate the impact of a national awareness campaign on emergency medical service (EMS) attendances for chest pain and OHCA. METHODS: Between January 2005 and December 2017, we included registry data for 97,860 EMS-attended OHCA cases from 3 Australian regions and dispatch data for 1,631,217 EMS attendances for chest pain across 5 Australian regions. Regions were exposed to between 11 and 28 months of television, radio, and print media activity. Multivariable negative binomial models were used to explore the effect of campaign activity on the monthly incidence of EMS attendances for chest pain and OHCA. RESULTS: Months with campaign activity were associated with an 8.8% (IRR 1.09, 95% CI: 1.07, 1.11) increase in the incidence of EMS attendances for chest pain and a 5.6% (IRR 0.94, 95% CI: 0.92, 0.97) reduction in OHCA attendances. Larger intervention effects were associated with increasing months of campaign activity, increasing monthly media spending and media exposure in 2013. In stratified analyses of OHCA cases, the largest reduction in incidence during campaign months was observed for unwitnessed arrests (IRR 0.93, 95% CI: 0.90, 0.96), initial non-shockable arrests (IRR 0.93, 95% CI: 0.90, 0.97) and arrests occurring in private residences (IRR 0.95, 95% CI: 0.91, 0.98). CONCLUSION: A national awareness campaign targeting knowledge of heart attack symptoms was associated with an increase in EMS use for chest pain and a reduction in OHCA incidence and may serve as an effective primary prevention strategy for OHCA.

RESUMO

Pumpkins are a nutritious and globally enjoyed fruit for their rich and earthy flavor. The biophysical properties of pumpkins play an important role in determining their yield. However, manual in-field techniques for monitoring these properties can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. To address this, this research introduces a novel approach that feeds high-resolution pumpkin images to train a mathematical model to automate the measurement of each pumpkin's biophysical properties. Color correction was performed on the dataset using a color-checker panel to minimize the impact of varying light conditions on the RGB images. A segmentation model was then trained to effectively recognize two fundamental components of each pumpkin: the fruit and vine. Real-life measurements of various biophysical properties, including fruit length, fruit width, stem length, stem width and fruit peel color, were computed and compared with manual measurements. The experimental results on 10 different pumpkin samples revealed that the framework obtained a small average mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 2.5% compared to the manual method, highlighting the potential of this approach as a faster and more efficient alternative to conventional techniques for monitoring the biophysical properties of pumpkins.

RESUMO

Heat networks play a vital role in the energy sector by offering thermal energy to residents in certain countries. Effective management and optimization of heat networks require a deep understanding of users' heat usage patterns. Irregular patterns, such as peak usage periods, can exceed the design capacities of the system. However, previous work has mostly neglected the analysis of heat usage profiles or performed on a small scale. To close the gap, this study proposes a data-driven approach to analyze and predict heat load in a district heating network. The study uses data from over eight heating seasons of a cogeneration DH plant in Cheongju, Korea, to build analysis and forecast models using supervised machine learning (ML) algorithms, including support vector regression (SVR), boosting algorithms, and multilayer perceptron (MLP). The models take weather data, holiday information, and historical hourly heat load as input variables. The performance of these algorithms is compared using different training sample sizes of the dataset. The results show that boosting algorithms, particularly XGBoost, are more suitable ML algorithms with lower prediction errors than SVR and MLP. Finally, different explainable artificial intelligence approaches are applied to provide an in-depth interpretation of the trained model and the importance of input variables.

RESUMO

A Healthcare-assistive Infection-control RObot (HIRO) is a healthcare-assistive robot that is deployed in an outpatient primary care clinic to sanitise the premises, monitor people in its proximity for their temperature and donning of masks, and usher them to service points. This study aimed to determine the acceptability, perceptions of safety, and concerns among the patients, visitors, and polyclinic healthcare workers (HCWs) regarding the HIRO. A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted from March to April 2022 when the HIRO was at Tampines Polyclinic in eastern Singapore. A total of 170 multidisciplinary HCWs serve approximately 1,000 patients and visitors daily at this polyclinic. The sample size of 385 was computed using a proportion of 0.5, 5% precision, and 95% confidence interval. Research assistants administered an e-survey to gather demographic data and feedback from 300 patients/visitors and 85 HCWs on their perceptions of the HIRO using Likert scales. The participants watched a video on the HIRO's functionalities and were given the opportunity to directly interact with it. Descriptive statistics was performed and figures were presented in frequencies and percentages. The majority of the participants viewed the HIRO's functionalities favourably: sanitising (96.7%/91.2%); checking proper mask donning (97%/89.4%); temperature monitoring (97%/91.7%); ushering (91.7%/81.1%); perceived user friendliness (93%/88.3%), and improvement in the clinic experience (96%/94.2%). A minority of the participants perceived harm from the HIRO's liquid disinfectant (29.6%/31.5%) and that its voice-annotated instructions may be upsetting (14%/24.8%). Most of the participants accepted the HIRO's deployment at the polyclinic and perceived it to be safe. The HIRO used ultraviolet irradiation for sanitisation during after-clinic hours instead of disinfectants due to the perceived harm.

RESUMO

Background: Digital health literacy (DHL) enables healthy decisions, improves protective behaviors and adherence to COVID-19 measures, especially during the era of the "infodemic", and enhances psychological well-being. Objective: We aimed to explore the mediating roles of fear of COVID-19, information satisfaction, and the importance of online information searching on the association between DHL and well-being. Methods: A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted among 1631 Taiwanese university students, aged 18 years and above, from June 2021 to March 2022. The collected data include sociodemographic characteristics (sex, age, social status, and financial satisfaction), the importance of online information searching, information satisfaction, fear of COVID-19, DHL, and well-being. A linear regression model was utilized to investigate factors associated with well-being, followed by a pathway analysis to assess the direct and indirect relationship between DHL and well-being. Results: The scores of DHL and overall well-being were 3.1 ± 0.4 and 74.4 ± 19.7, respectively. Social status (B = 2.40, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.73-3.07, p < 0.001), DHL (B 0.29, 95% CI 0.10-0.49, p < 0.001), importance of online information searching (B = 0.78, 95% CI 0.38-1.17, p < 0.001), and information satisfaction (B = 3.59, 95% CI 2.22-4.94, p < 0.001) were positively associated with well-being, whereas higher fear of COVID-19 scores (B = -0.38, 95% CI -0.55-(-0.21), p < 0.001) and female (B = -2.99, 95% CI -5.02-0.6, p = 0.004) were associated with lower well-being, when compared with lower fear scores and male, respectively. Fear of COVID-19 (B = 0.03, 95% CI 0.016-0.04, p < 0.001), importance of online information searching (B = 0.03, 95% CI 0.01-0.05, p = 0.005), and information satisfaction (B = 0.05, 95% CI 0.023-0.067, p < 0.001) were significantly mediated the relationship between DHL and well-being. Conclusion: Higher DHL scores show direct and indirect associations with higher well-being scores. Fear, importance of online information searching, and information satisfaction significantly contributed to the association.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The ability to incorporate different materials in the construction of 3-D printed models has resulted in the ability to mimic a variety of anatomical structures such as cartilage, mucosa and bone. The aim of this study was to evaluate the face and content validities of a model as a training tool for endoscopic sinus surgery. METHODS: Twenty-six delegates and ten teaching faculty members were invited to complete a post-hoc questionnaire survey. The survey consisted of a 22-question 5-point Likert scale to assess the model's realism (face validity) and its effectiveness as a training tool (content validity). RESULTS: Over 80% of the delegates agreed or strongly agreed that the appearance of anatomical structures within the model was realistic and mimicked actual sinus anatomy. In addition, a similar proportion agreed or strongly agreed that the application of instruments on the composite materials of the model realistically mimicked bone. All faculty agreed that the model was useful to develop hand-eye coordination and was a useful training tool for endoscopic sinus surgery. Overall, the sinus model received high scores regarding its use for training surgeons, especially to develop camera and instrument handling skills. CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that otolaryngology doctors in their early or intermediate stage of training would benefit most from a clinical-based modular programme. The model requires further development in areas such as the realism of mucosa, incorporation of sinonasal pathology and having more complex anatomy to be useful for the training of more advanced surgeons.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of chitinase-3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1) and Golgi protein 73 (GP73) in the diagnosis of cirrhosis and the dynamic changes of CHI3L1 and GP73 after HCV clearance in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) treated with direct-acting antiviral drugs (DAAs). The comparison of continuous variables of normal distribution were statistically analyzed by ANOVA and t-test. The comparison of continuous variables of non-normal distribution were statistically analyzed by rank sum test. The categorical variables were statistically analyzed by Fisher's exact test and χ(2) test. Correlation analysis was performed using Spearman correlation analysis. Methods: Data of 105 patients with CHC diagnosed from January 2017 to December 2019 were collected. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) was plotted to study the efficacy of serum CHI3L1 and GP73 for the diagnosis of cirrhosis. Friedman test was used to compare CHI3L1 and GP73 change characteristics. Results: The areas under the ROC curve for CHI3L1 and GP73 in the diagnosis of cirrhosis at baseline were 0.939 and 0.839, respectively. Serum levels of CHI3L1 and GP73 in the DAAs group decreased significantly at the end of treatment compared with baseline [123.79 (60.25, 178.80) ng/ml vs. 118.20 (47.68, 151.36) ng/ml, P = 0.001; 105.73 (85.05, 130.69) ng/ml vs. 95.52 (69.52, 118.97) ng/ml, P = 0.001]. Serum CHI3L1 and GP73 in the pegylated interferon combined with ribavirin (PR) group were significantly lower at the end of 24 weeks of treatment than the baseline [89.15 (39.15, 149.74) ng/ml vs. 69.98 (20.52, 71.96) ng/ml, P < 0.05; 85.07 (60.07, 121) ng/ml vs. 54.17 (29.17, 78.65) ng/ml, P < 0.05]. Conclusion: CHI3L1 and GP73 are sensitive serological markers that can be used to monitor the fibrosis prognosis in CHC patients during treatment and after obtaining a sustained virological response. Serum CHI3L1 and GP73 levels in the DAAs group decreased earlier than those in the PR group, and the serum CHI3L1 levels in the untreated group increased compared with the baseline at about two years of follow-up.
