RESUMO

Purpose: Heavy biomechanical loadings at workplaces may lead to high risks of work-related musculoskeletal disorders. This study aimed to explore the efficacy of an Omaha System-based remote ergonomic intervention program on self-reported work-related musculoskeletal disorders among frontline nurses. Materials and methods: From July to October 2020, 94 nurses with self-reported pain in one of the three body parts, i.e., neck, shoulder, and low back, were selected and were randomly divided into two groups. The intervention group received a newly developed remote program, where the control group received general information and guidance on health and life. Program outcome was evaluated by a quick exposure check approach. Results: After 6 weeks, the intervention group exhibited significantly less stress in the low back, neck, and shoulder/forearms, compared to the control group (p < 0.05). In addition, the occurrence of awkward postures, such as extreme trunk flexion or twisting, was also significantly reduced (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The newly developed Omaha System-based remote intervention program may be a valid alternative to traditional programs for frontline nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing biomechanical loadings and awkward postures during daily nursing operations.

RESUMO

Long snake moxibustion, a kind of indirect moxibustion therapy for stimulating the midline part of the back of the patient's body after playing a layer of ginger or garlic mud, is frequently used to treat spine disorders and deficiency-cold type syndromes. In the present paper, we introduced our newly made moxibustion box for applying long snake moxibustion which is safe and easy to operate and can be freely moved at any time in the treatment of vertebral diseases, and conveniently makes the ignited-moxa close to the locus. This newly-designed moxibustion box is made of two lines of paralleled flexible connection side plates hinged ends to ends and two U-like connection plates at the opposite two ends to construct a rectangular frame device. The hinged design makes the long snake moxibustion box conform to the physiological curvature of human body and its length can be adjusted according to the height of patients. When used in clinical practice, it can enhance the patients' safety and reduce the operator's working intensity, and may be helpful to the popularization and development of long snake moxibustion therapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Many non-drug interventions for decreasing non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) in nurses have been extensively studied, but the most effective approach is still unclear. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review and network meta-analysis evaluated the efficacies of 12 non-drug interventions in reducing NSCLBP in nurses. METHODS: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Cochrane, EMBASE, CINAHL, Medline, WANFANG, VIP, China Knowledge Integrated, and SinoMed were searched from their establishment to July 2019. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing non-drug interventions for NSCLBP in nurses were included and analyzed using Stata v15 statistical software. RESULTS: A total of 31 RCTs (n= 7116) and 12 non-drug interventions were included. The first three results with the highest surface areas under the curve ranking area (SUCRAs) were low back exercise plus healthy education, single low back exercise, and yoga (SUCRAs: 79.4%, 76.2%, and 75.1%, respectively). In addition, single yoga was inferior to protective equipment (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 3.88, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.92 to 6.84) and multidisciplinary intervention (SMD =-4.06, 95% CI: -7.33 to -0.78). CONCLUSIONS: Low back exercise plus health education may be the best approach to reduce NSCLBP in nurses. Considering the heterogeneity, our findings need to be confirmed in future multicenter large sample RCTs in different countries.

RESUMO

Tiafenacil is a new contact herbicide and its environmental behavior after field application remains poorly understood. In order to understand the dissipation of tiafenacil in the soil, the tiafenacil dissipation experiment was conducted at citrus orchard sites in five provinces of China (Gansu, Shandong, Sichuan, Jiangxi, and Hainan) in 2019 and 2020 (July-August) and the relevant determination methods were optimized. The results showed that the established method showed good linearity in the concentration range of 0.01-0.5 mg/kg. The average recoveries of tiafenacil from the five soils were 86.31-101.66%, with coefficients of variation of 0.28-10.79%. The dissipation of tiafenacil at the five experimental sites conformed to the first-order kinetic equation, Ct  = C0 exp- kt (R2  = 0.8130 - 0.9967). The half-life of tiafenacil ranged from 0.26 to 4.19 days. The dissipation rate of tiafenacil was positively correlated with soil organic matter content and negatively correlated with soil pH, while monthly average temperature and total rainfall were less influential than soil properties. Therefore, the established method was simple and effective for tiafenacil residue analysis in citrus orchard soils. Tiafenacil could readily dissipate in soil and might be a safe alternative to glyphosate for weed control in citrus orchards.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have investigated factors for non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) in nurses, and have reached different conclusions. Evidence-based recommendations are required for the prevention and treatment of NSCLBP in nurses. OBJECTIVE: This meta-analysis aimed to systematically review and quantify the factors of NSCLBP in nurses. METHODS: Eleven databases were searched. The odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled using meta-analysis, and either a fixed-effect or random-effect model was used based on heterogeneity across included studies. RESULTS: Eighteen publications including 11,752 nursing staff were included. Being female (pooled estimate [95% CI], 1.56 [1.24-1.96]; P< 0.001), married (1.89 [1.38-2.60]; P< 0.001), overweight (0.63 [0.43-0.93]; P= 0.02), working at least 10 years (0.65 [0.48-0.89]; P= 0.007), and working night shifts (2.19 [1.16-4.21]; P= 0.02) were positively related to NSCLBP. Junior college education (0.60 [0.47-0.77]; P< 0.001) and job satisfaction (0.58 [0.47-0.73]; P< 0.001) were negatively related. Age (0.80 [0.50-1.27]; P= 0.34) and physical exercise (0.99 [0.39-2.49]; P= 0.98) were not related. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first meta-analysis to quantify the risk factors for NSCLBP in nurses. Being female, married, working night shifts, overweight, working at least 10 years and dissatisfied with work are risk factors. High-quality prospective studies are required to validate the findings of this study.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on liver surface blood perfusion and related indexes of oxidative stress in mice with acute alcoholic liver injury (AALI), so as to explore its mechanism underlying improving of AALI. METHODS: Twenty-four Kunming mice were randomly divided into control, model and EA groups (8 mice/group). AALI model was established by intragastric administration of 50% ethanol at 6 g/kg. EA (4-6 V, 50 Hz) was applied to bilateral"Zusanli"(ST36) and"Taichong"(LR3) for 30 min. The liver surface blood perfusion was dynamically observed by moorFLPI laser speckle imager for 30 min. The morphological changes of the liver tissue were determined by H.E. staining. Levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver were measured by ELISA. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the model group had markedly pathological changes of the hepatic cords, hepatic sinuses and hepatocytes shown by H.E. staining, a significant reduction in liver surface blood perfusion and the content of SOD in liver tissue (P<0.01, P<0.05), and a significant increase in the content of MDA in liver tissue (P<0.05). Compared with the model group, H.E. staining showed reduced pathological changes of the liver tissue, meanwhile the liver surface blood perfusion significant increased (P<0.05) and the content of MDA in liver tissue significantly decreased (P<0.01) in the EA group. CONCLUSION: EA can improve the liver surface circulation of AALI mice, and regulate the oxidative stress response, and thus help to repair the damage of liver tissue.

RESUMO

Benzobicyclon is a systemic herbicide that was officially registered in China in 2018. The environmental behaviors of benzobicyclon hydrolysate (BH), the main metabolite and active product of benzobicyclon, remain poorly understood in paddy fields. Here, agricultural soil samples were collected from paddy fields in Jiangxi (Ferralsols), Shandong (Alisols), Hebei (Luvisols), Heilongjiang (Phaeozems), Zhejiang (Anthrosols), Sichuan (Gleysols), Hainan (Plinthosols), and Hubei (Lixisols) across China. The equilibrium oscillation method was used to study the adsorption-desorption behaviors of BH in the eight soils. The relationships between BH adsorption and soil physicochemical properties, environmental factors (temperature and initial solution pH), and other external conditions (addition of humic acid, biochar, and metal ions) were quantified. The adsorption-desorption parameters of BH in all soils were well fitted by the Freundlich model. The adsorption constant of BH varied between 0.066 and 4.728. The BH adsorption capacity decreased in the following order: Phaeozems > Alisols > Ferralsols > Lixisols > Plinthosols > Anthrosols > Luvisols > Gleysols. The Freundlich adsorption and desorption constants of BH were linearly positively correlated with soil clay content (R2 = 0.711 and 0.709; P = 0.009 and 0.009, respectively), organic carbon content (R2 = 0.684 and 0.672; P = 0.011 and 0.013, respectively), and organic matter content (R2 = 0.698 and 0.683; P = 0.010 and 0.011, respectively); however, their linear relationships with soil cation exchange capacity were not significant (R2 = 0.192 and 0.192; P = 0.278 and 0.278, respectively). The adsorption and desorption constants of BH had negative, albeit not significant, correlations with soil pH (R2 = 0.104 and 0.100; P = 0.437 and 0.445, respectively). The adsorption of BH by soil occurred spontaneously and was mainly based on physical adsorption. Either low or high temperature reduced the ability of the soil to adsorb BH. The addition of humic acid to the soil increased BH adsorption, while the addition of biochar increased the solution pH, resulting in decreased BH adsorption. Cation type and ionic strength also had strong effects on BH adsorption. With the exception of Phaeozems, BH exhibited intermediate or high mobility in the agricultural soils and thus poses risks to surface water and groundwater.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical therapeutic effect of long-snake moxibustion and ginger-partitioned moxibustion at ashi point on nonspecific low back pain (NLBP) with symptom of cold and dampness. METHODS: A total of 120 patients were randomized into a long-snake moxibustion group, an ashi point group and a waiting for treatment group, 40 cases in each one. Ginger-partitioned moxibustion was applied from Dazhui (GV 14) to Yaoshu (GV 2) of governor vessel in the long-snake moxibustion group, and was applied at ashi point of affected area in the ashi point group, 40 min each time, once every other day and totally 8 times were required. No intervention was adopted in the waiting for treatment group, and after the trial, long-snake moxibustion was applied. Before and after treatment, the visual analogue scale (VAS) scores of rest and activity, the Oswestry disability index (ODI) score and the score of cold and dampness symptom were observed in the 3 groups. RESULTS: Compared before treatment, the VAS scores of rest and activity, the ODI scores and the scores of cold and dampness symptom after treatment were decreased in the long-snake moxibustion group and the ashi point group (P<0.05). After treatment, the variations of the above indexes in the long-snake moxibustion group and the ashi point group were larger than those in the waiting for treatment group (P<0.05), and the variations of the above indexes in the long-snake moxibustion group were larger than those in the ashi point group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Long-snake moxibustion can effectively improve the pain, dysfunction and the symptom of cold and dampness in patients with nonspecific low back pain, and the improvement is superior to the ginger-partitioned moxibustion at ashi point.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of long-snake moxibustion on pain, functional disorder and body constitution in the patients with lumbago of cold-dampness type. METHODS: A total of 90 patients with lumbago of cold-dampness type were randomized into long-snake moxibustion, acupuncture and medication groups, 30 cases in each group. In the long-snake moxibustion group, long-snake moxibustion was exerted on the spinal (between Dazhui[GV14] and Yaoshu[GV2]) with the self-prepared moxa powder formula combined with fresh ginger and moxa wool, once a week, for 4 weeks. Regular acupuncture was given to the acupuncture group, 30 min each time, once a day, 8 times as a treatment course, at the interval of 2 days between the courses. The duration of treatment was 1 month. In the medication group, Diclofenac Sodium was prescribed for oral administration, 25 mg each time, three times a day, and Mecobalamine tablets, 0.5 mg each time, 3 times a day. The duration of medication was 1 month. Before and after treatment, the differences were evaluated in the scores of visual analog scale (VAS), the present pain intensity(PPI), Oswestry disability index (ODI) and the scale of yang-deficiency body constitution among the 3 groups. RESULTS: After the treatment, VAS and PPI score and ODI were significantly reduced in the patients of the 3 groups as compared with those before treatment (all P<0.05). Compared with the medication group, ODI score was significantly reduced in the long-snake moxibustion group and the acupuncture group (P<0.05). After the treatment, the scores of the scale of yang-deficiency body constitution were significantly reduced in the long-snake moxibustion group and the acupuncture group (P<0.05) as compared with those before the treatment, but not statistically significant in the medication group in comparison before and after the treatment (P>0.05). The score of the scale of yang-deficiency body constitution in the long-snake moxibustion group was significantly lower than that in the acupuncture group and the medication group (P<0.05). Regarding the clinical effect, the effective rate was 93.33% (28/30) in the long-snake moxibustion group and it was 86.67% (26/30) in the acupuncture group and 73.33% (22/30) in the medication group after the treatment. The effective rate in the long-snake moxibustion group was significantly higher than those in the acupuncture group and the medication group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The long-snake moxibustion therapy can achieve significant effect on lumbago of cold-dampness type. This therapy can alleviate pain, relieve the functional disorders and improve the conditions of body constitution in the patients. Hence, it is applicable for the clinical promotion.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of long snake moxibustion and Ashi-point moxibustion in the treatment of cold-dampness type chronic non-specific low back pain (CNLBP) patients. METHODS: A total of 120 cold-dampness type CNLBP patients who signed the informed consent were randomly and equally divided into control, long snake moxibustion and Ashi-point moxibustion groups. Ginger-separated moxibustion was applied to the region between Dazhui (GV14) and Yaoshu (GV2) for patients of the long-snake moxibustion group, or to the tenderness spot of the waist for patients of the Ashi-point moxibustion group. The treatment was conducted for 40 min each time, once every other day for a total of 8 sessions. Patients of the control group did not receive any intervention. The visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to assess low back pain severity. The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was employed to assess ten aspects of patients' daily-life activities (pain intensity, personal care, lif-ting, walking, sitting, standing, sleeping, sex life, social life, and traveling). The cold-damp syndrome scores (pain property, symptoms, ranges of motion, waist palpation, tongue and pulse condition) were achieved by consulting the textbook "Differential Diagnostics of Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes". The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS, a self-made assessment instrument) was used to assess the patients' severity of emotional disorder. The plasma cortisol level was detected by ELISA. RESULTS: Before treatment, there were no significant differences among the three groups in the levels of all the indexes (P>0.05). After moxibustion, the VAS scores during rest and movement, ODI score, cold-damp syndrome score and anxiety score in both long snake moxibustion and Ashi-point moxibustion groups, and the HADS depression score and plasma cortisol content in the long snake moxibustion group were significantly reduced compared with their own pre-treatment (P<0.05). The difference values between pre and post-treatment of VAS scores during rest and movement, ODI score, cold-damp syndrome score, anxiety score, depression score and cortisol content were obviously higher in the long snake moxibustion and Ashi-point moxibustion groups than those in the control group. The difference values between pre- and post-treatment of VAS scores during rest and movement, ODI score, cold-damp syndrome score, anxiety score, depression score and cortisol content were obviously higher in the long snake moxibustion group than in the Ashi-point group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Both ginger-separated long snake moxibustion and Ashi-point moxibustion can relieve low back pain, daily-life activities, cold-damp syndrome, negative emotions, and reducing cortisol level in cold-dampness type CNLBP patients, and the therapeutic efficacy of long snake moxibustion is obviously better.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Yang deficiency constitution may bring with different types of illnesses in many people. The present study was designed to observe the effect of ginger-separated snake moxibustion on yang deficiency symptom, and serum adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol (CORT) contents in yang deficiency constitution subjects, so as to explore its mechanism underlying improvement of yang deficiency constitution. METHODS: Ninety subjects with yang deficiency type constitution were equally and randomly assigned to control A group (19 men and 26 women, 18-60 years in age) and moxibustion group (16 men and 29 women, 18-60 years in age) and 45 normal subjects with mild constitution (18 men and 27 women, 18-60 years in age) were assigned to control B group. An snake-like moxa-cone was placed at a moxa-holder covering the middle back of human body from Dazhui (GV 14) to Yaoshu (GV 2) after paving a layer (about 1 cm thick) of fresh ginger in the holder, and then ignited, followed by the next moxa-cone, 3 cones altogether every time for each participant. The treatment was conducted once a week, 12 times in total. The subjects' constitution was scored according to the "Classification and Evaluation of Constitution of Traditional Chinese Medicine" formulated by China Association of Chinese Medicine. The serum ACTH and CORT contents were measured by radioimmunoassay before and at the end of the treatment and 6 months after the treatment. RESULTS: The constitation scores of the moxibustion group and control A group were significantly higher than that of the control B group before treatment (P<0.01). At the end of the treatment, the constitution score was significantly decreased in the moxibustion group (P<0.01) rather than in the control A group relevant to its own pre-treatment (P>0.05). The serum CORT and ACTH contents were significantly decreased in both the moxibustion and control A groups in comparison to the control B group before treatment (P<0.01), and obviously increased at the end of treatment in the moxibustion group compared with its own pre-treatment (P<0.01). No significant differences were found among the three groups in the constitution score, and serum CORT and ACTH levels at the 6th month after the treatment compared with their own post-treatment (P>0.05).. CONCLUSION: The ginger-separated snake moxibustion treatment may improve the constitution of yang deficiency participants by increasing the levels of serum ACTH and CORT, which may be helpful in resisting diseases.

RESUMO

Imaging methods to evaluate hepatic microcirculation (HM) and liver function (LF) by directly monitoring overall liver tissue remain lacking. This study establish imaging methods for LF that combines Laser speckle perfusion imaging (LSPI) and in vivo optical imaging (IVOI) technologies to investigate changes of hepatic microcirculation and reserve function in the animals gavaged with 50% ethanol (15 ml/kg·bw) for a model of acute alcoholic liver injury (ALI), and for evaluation of electroacupuncture (EA) effect. The liver blood perfusion and indocyanine green (ICG) distribution were observe by LSPI and IVOI separately. After EA, the livers were collected to measure the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), thromboxane A (TXA2), prostacyclin (PGI2) and endothelin (ET). The acquisitions of newly established LSPI of liver and ICG in vivo fluorescence imaging (ICG-IVFI), combining the results of other indexes showed: hepatic microcirculation perfusion (HMP) significantly reduced, ICG metabolism reduced, and ALT/AST increased in animal model with acute ALI. EA can reverse these changes. The use of LSPI of liver and ICG-IVFI, which was novel imaging methods for LF established in this study, could display the LF characteristics of ALI and the EA efficacy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of "menstrual cycle-based acupuncture therapy" on ovarian function and pregnancy results of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) in patients with decline in ovarian reserve (DOR). METHODS: A total of 63 patients of DOR who received treatment of IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) were randomly divided into an observation group (30 cases) and a control group (33 cases). The patients in the observation group were treated with "menstrual cycle-based acupuncture therapy". The syndrome differentiation and treatment were given based on different phases of menstruation. Shiqizhui (EX-B 8) and Mingmen (GV 4) were selected during menstrual phase, Shenshu (BL 23), Geshu (BL 17), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taixi (KI 3) were selected after menstruation, Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Zigong (EX-CA 1), Zusanli (ST 36) were selected during ovulatory period, Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Taichong (LR 3) were selected before menstruation. The acupuncture was given twice a week until second menstrual cycle of oocyte retrieval. The total times of acupuncture was (15 ± 2). After acupuncture, patients were treated with IVF-ET. The patients in the control group were treated with IVF-ET but no acupuncture. The indices of ovarian reserve function, including basic follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol (E2), antral follicle count (AFC), number of retrieved oocytes, number of fertilization and number of high quality embryo, were compared and analyzed before and after acupuncture in the observation group. The differences of outcomes of IVF-ET, including the cycle cancellation rate, implantation rate, the clinical pregnancy rate, were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Compared before acupuncture, the E2, AFC, number of retrieved oocytes, number of high quality embrgo and number of fertilization were all increased after acupuncture in the observation group (all P< 0. 05). Compared with the control group, levels of the E2, the number of retrieved oocytes, number of fertilization and number of high quality embryo were all increased in the observation group (all P < 0.05). Also, the implantation rate, the clinical pregnancy rate were improved (both P < 0.01) and cycle cancellation rate was reduced (P< 0.01). CONCLUSION: The "menstrual cycle-based acupuncture therapy" can effectively improve the ovarian reserve function in DOR patients, leading to an improved clinical pregnancy rate of IVF-ET.

RESUMO

The study is to observe the influence of electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation at "Zusanli" (ST36) on the release of nitric oxide (NO) and blood perfusion (BP) in the liver and further explore whether the hepatic blood perfusion (HBP) changes were regulated by EA ST36 induced NO in nitric oxide synthase inhibited mice. The HBP change of the mice was detected by laser speckle perfusion imaging (LSPI) before and after being given interventions, and the NO in liver tissue was detected by nitric acid reductase in each group. The NO levels and HBP in the L-NAME group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.01). The NO level and HBP increase in EA group were significantly higher than those in control group (P < 0.05). The NO level in the L-NAME EA group was slightly higher than that in the L-NAME group. The HBP increase in the L-NAME EA group was not statistically significant. These results showed that EA could accelerate the synthesis of NO and thereby increase HBP via vasodilation in liver tissue.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the influence of electroacupuncture (EA) on indocyanine green (ICG) metabolism in the liver and the action mechanism of acupuncture for hepatic regulation. METHODS: Forty Kunming mice were randomly divided into an EA group and a control group, 20 cases in each one. Combined with classical hepatic metabolism test of ICG, after tail vein injection of ICG, twenty mice were treated with EA at "Zusanli" (ST 36) for 20 min. The ICG fluorescence intensity and distribution in the liver were observed with animal in vivo fluorescence imaging apparatus during 20 min of EA and 60 min of needle withdrawal. Twenty mice, taken as control group, were treated with ICG injection and no EA. The differences of fluorescence intensity and distribution in both groups were compared. RESULTS: (1) There was blocking and gathered fluorescent sign in both groups when ICG was injected immediately. With the extension of observation time, the fluorescence brightness and area were increased until 30 min of injection. This was in accordance with known metabolism activities of ICG in the liver. (2) At 10 min and 20 min of EA and after needle withdrawal, compared with the control group, the fluorescence intensity in the liver of the EA group was weaker and the distribution area was smaller. (3) According to quantitative statistics of fluorescence intensity, at each time point of treatment, the value in the control group was higher than that in the EA group, which appeared regularly all along. As for the total mean difference of ICG fluorescence intensity at all time points, there was statistical difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: EA could reduce fluorescence intensity and lasting time of ICG, indicating that EA accelerates metabolic process of ICG in the liver. Also it is feasible to apply animal in vivo fluorescence imaging technology to the principle research of acupuncture effect.
