RESUMO

Cutaneous wound healing is a complex process that leads the skin reparation with the formation of scar tissue that typically lacks skin appendages. This fact drives us to find new strategies to improve regenerative healing of the skin. This study outlines, the contribution of colloidal silica particles and oligourethane crosslinking on the collagen material properties and the effect on skin wound healing in rats. We characterized the gel properties that are key forin-situgelation, which is accomplished by the latent reactivity of oligourethane bearing blocked isocyanate groups to crosslink collagen while entrapping silica particles. The swelling/degradation behavior and the elastic modulus of the composite gel were consistent with the modification of collagen type I with oligourethane and silica. On the other hand, these gels were characterized as scaffold for murine macrophages and human stem cells. The application of a composite gel dressing on cutaneous wounds showed a histological appearance of the recovered skin as intact skin; featured by the epidermis, hair follicles, sebaceous glands, subcutaneous adipose layer, and dermis. The results suggest that the collagen-based composite dressings are promising modulators in skin wound healing to achieve a regenerative skin closure with satisfactory functional and aesthetic scars.

Background: Radiographic examination in upper molars is often deficient in order to diagnose abnormalities in the root canal system and to be able to choose the ideal treatment. Description of the case: This article shows the clinical case of a second right upper molar with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. An accessory root on the palatal is observed in a radiographic examination. A therapy of the canal was carried out with ProtaperNext ® and the sealing was made by cold lateral condensation with ultrasonic condensation. Conclusión: It is very important to know the root canal system morphology of the tooth to be treated in order to offer the patient an adequate treatment.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The Dens Invaginatus or Dens in dent it is the most common dental abnormal structure, this anatomic variation means a true clinic challenge because of its complex anatomy, however , thanks to the auxiliary tools for diagnosis just like Cone Beam Computerized Tomography, we can plan a good treatment to offer the best diagnosis. This article describes a clinic case about Dens in Dent in twenty one tooth with pulp necrosis and asymptomatic apical periodontitis. Cone Beam Computerized Tomography was requested, the image helped to classify the kind of Dens in Dent which is type II according to Oehlers´s classifi cation. It is instrumented, irrigated with ultrasound and sealed with "continuous wave of heat "technique. This technique ensures a radiographic success with six months of evolution. Currently, thanks to diagnostic methods and treatment aids such as ultrasound, gutta-percha injection system more effi cient treatments can be offered in endodontic therapeutics.

RESUMO

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most frequent type of benign salivary neoplasm located in the mouth and is characterized by its significant histopathological diversity. The histogenesis of the pleomorphic adenoma is uncertain; so far several studies suggest that myoepithelial cells are responsible for the variable histomorphology of this type of neoplasm. At times, stroma is the predominant element. The purpose of the present review is to analyze the results reported in the scientific literature concerning immunomarkers expressed in the different stromal elements of pleomorphic adenoma.

The objective of the study was to identify patterns of velopharyngeal closure (CVF) in patients with Cleft Palate (PH) and cleft lip and palate (LPH) attending the Clinic of Comprehensive Attention of Patients with Cleft Lip and Palate (CAIPLPH) of the Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores, Unidad León (ENES, León). A cross-sectional study and convenience sample of 79 patients was carried out, including those aged between 4 and 10 years. The variables included were: CVF pattern, kind of cleft, the patient's age and history of previous surgery for closure of the palatal cleft. Patients underwent clinical evaluation and nasofibroscopy by examiners previously standardized to know if there is a relationship between age and CVF pattern, between kind of cleft and pattern of CVF and a relationship between the pattern of CVF and patient's history of previous surgery, using a X2 test bivariate square. Forty-six men and 33 women with a mean age 6.6 years were examined. Frequency patterns CVF: 8.86% coronal, sagittal 67.08%, circular 13.92% and a circular with Passavant ridge 10.12%. A statistically significant difference between the pattern of CVF and the kind of cleft (X2= 53.93, p <0.001) was observed. The different ways in which the PH and LPH clefts can present influence the function of CVF as it can present a different pattern in each case. CVF pattern is unaffected by age or by the previous surgical closure.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: Sialolipoma is rare benign neoplasm arise from salivary glands (majors and minors) characterized by neoplastic adipose tissue with scattered non-neoplastic salivary gland acinus. To date 60 cases (including 5 cases reported in the present paper) have been reported in scientific literature. This article presents 5 new cases of sialolipoma affecting minor salivary glands (MiSG) and additionally reviews and analyzes the previously published cases to assess possible demographical differences between sialolipoma from minor and from major salivary glands. CASE REPORTS: 5 cases (3 females; 2 males; age means 63.8 years), of sialolipoma from MiSG, are reported. 2 of them were located in buccal mucosa, 1 in upper lip mucosa, 1 in floor of the mouth and 1 in retromolar area. All tumors were composed by neoplastic adipocytes cells interlaced with normal salivary gland acinus cover it by a fibrous tissue capsule. Analyzes of literature showed that MiSG sialolipoma is most frequent in females over 60 years old, therefore and in conclusion this article assess different demographical profile of sialolipoma in respect to their topography.

Polyps are rare in children. The present article reports the clinical case of a 14 month old male patient brought for treatment to the Pedodontics Clinic of the Graduate School, National School of Dentistry National University of Mexico. He presented two palatal fibro-epithelial polyps, located at both sides of the incisive papilla. 10 days after surgical excision, a supernumerary tooth erupted in the palate. 25 days later, eruption of a second supernumerary tooth was observed. Both teeth were extracted. Histological diagnosis of palatal lesions was giant fibroblast fibroma. Nevertheless, no histological evidence was found to show possible relationship between presence of palatal polyps and supernumerary teeth.

Invaginated tooth is a malformation likely resulting from a splitting of dental papilla duringtooth development. Dens invaginatus are clinically important teeth due to the easy affectionof the dental pulp. Invagination depth varies from a slight enlargement of the cingulum untoan extended invagination to the apex. This article reports the case of a female patient aged23, who referred fistula with ten years of evolution in tooth 22. The clinical and radiographicdiagnosis was dens in dent with necrosis and chronic suppurative periapical periodontitis. The root canal therapy and apical surgery were performed showing successfully radiographicevolution within a two-year follow-up period...

RESUMO

Leiomyoma, a benign neoplasia arising from smooth muscle is an uncommon neoplasia of the oral cavity. The most common histological subtype in the oral cavity is the vascular one. To supplement information on vascular leiomyoma of the oral cavity (VLOC), we present cases of VLOC describing their clinical, histological, and immunohistochemical characteristics. Case reports. Five cases of VLOC (3 females; 2 males) from the Clinical and Experimental Pathology Laboratory, Dental School, National Autonomous University of México, are included. The most frequent clinical characteristic of VLOC was a single, asymptomatic, slow growing nodule. The age average of the cases was 40.6, however 3 out of our 5 cases were < or = 40 years old at the moment of their diagnosis. The lesions were composed of fusiform cells arranged in bundles or fascicles. The neoplastic cells were characterized by eosinophilic cytoplasm and tapered nuclei. The presence of vascular spaces was prominent in all cases. The immunocharacteristics of VLOC neoplastic cells were: alpha smooth muscle (+); vimentin (+), desmin (+), CD34 (-) and S-100 protein (-). The endothelial cells of vascular spaces were CD34 (+). Differential diagnosis of VLOC with fusocellular neoplasm is discussed.
