RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Although Endovascular Thrombectomy (EVT) significantly improves the prognosis of Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS) patients with large vessel occlusion, the mortality rate remains higher. This study aimed to construct and validate a nomogram for predicting 90-day all-cause mortality in AIS patients with large vessel occlusion and who have undergone EVT. METHODS: AIS patients with large vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation who underwent EVT from May 2017 to December 2022 were included. 430 patients were randomly split into a training group (N=302) and a test group (N=128) for the construction and validation of our nomogram. In the training group, multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the predictors of 90-day all-cause mortality. The C-index, calibration plots, and decision curve analysis were applied to evaluate the nomogram performance. RESULTS: Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed neurological deterioration during hospitalization, age, baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, occlusive vessel location, malignant brain edema, and Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) as the independent predictors of 90-day all-cause mortality (all p ≤ 0.039). The C-index of the training and test groups was 0.891 (95%CI 0.848-0.934) and 0.916 (95% CI: 0.865-0.937), respectively, showing the nomogram to be well distinguished. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test revealed the p-values for both the internal and external verification datasets to be greater than 0.5. CONCLUSION: Our nomogram has incorporated relevant clinical and imaging features, including neurological deterioration, age, baseline NIHSS score, occlusive vessel location, malignant brain edema, and NLR ratio, to provide an accurate and reliable prediction of 90-day all-cause mortality in AIS patients undergoing EVT.

Identifying the microscopic nature of non-equilibrium energy transfer mechanisms among electronic, spin, and lattice degrees of freedom is central to understanding ultrafast phenomena such as manipulating magnetism on the femtosecond timescale. Here, we use time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to go beyond the often-used ensemble-averaged view of non-equilibrium dynamics in terms of quasiparticle temperature evolutions. We show for ferromagnetic Ni that the non-equilibrium electron and spin dynamics display pronounced variations with electron momentum, whereas the magnetic exchange interaction remains isotropic. This highlights the influence of lattice-mediated scattering processes and opens a pathway toward unraveling the still elusive microscopic mechanism of spin-lattice angular momentum transfer.

Background: The location description of the sciatic nerve (SN) of adult between the ischial tuberosity (IT) and the greater trochanter of the femur (GT) is inconsistent in publications, this impels us to investigate and measure the distance relationship with SN between IT and GT. Methods: Thirty-one adult cadavers were dissected to investigate the distance relationship of SN with the posterior prominent position of the ischial tuberosity (ppIT), the medial edge of IT (mIT) and the lateral prominent position of GT (lGT). Results: SN passed through the point of the junction of medial one-third and middle one-third of a length from ppIT to lGT, and the midpoint of a length from mIT to lGT from the average data of the total studied cadavers. From average data of female and male, the left SN passed through the point of the junction of the medial two-fifths and the lateral three-fifths of the length between mIT and lGT. Between ppIT and lGT, SN located in a range of proportions from 0.1 to 0.6 from medial to lateral. Between mIT and lGT, SN located in a range of proportions from 0.2 to 0.7 from medial to lateral and all SN passed through the middle third of the length. Conclusions: Different bony landmarks draw different location descriptions of anatomic structure. In anatomic study and clinical practice, the utilized bony landmark should be clearly and accurately identified the reference point, inaccurate bony landmark can result in erroneous localization of the interested anatomic structure and lead to operation failure or iatrogenic injury.

Imidacloprid and thiacloprid, two neonicotinoid insecticides that are extensively used in urban areas, are potentially toxic to non-target aquatic organisms. In this study, the concentrations of imidacloprid and thiacloprid in surface runoff after rainfall were 20.79-43.77 ng/L and 25.13-63.84 ng/L, respectively, whereas the levels for the Licun River were 10.78-41.70 ng/L and 2.66-39.68 ng/L, respectively. The acute and chronic criteria for imidacloprid and thiacloprid are 0.865, 0.006, 0.83, and 0.012 µg/L, respectively. Tiered ecological risk assessments revealed the chronic ecological risks of these micropollutants to local aquatic species. There was a moderate chronic toxicity risk associated with imidacloprid and thiacloprid in the Licun River, and the joint probability curves showed a probability of chronic ecological risk to 5 % of the aquatic organisms at 68 %-97 %. The results provide evidence of urban surface runoff transporting micropollutants from surface into rivers and estuaries, highlighting the ecological risks to aquatic ecosystems.

Plastics are commonly used by society and their break down into millimeter-sized bits known as microplastics (MPs). Due to the possibility of exposure, reports of them in atmospheric deposition, indoor, and outdoor air have sparked worry for public health. In tropical and subtropical regions all throughout the world, mangroves constitute a distinctive and significant type of coastal wetlands. Mangrove plants are considered to have the effect of accumulating sediment MPs, but the sedimentation of atmospheric MPs has not been reported. In this study, we illustrated the characteristics, abundance and spatial distribution of MPs in different species of mangrove leaves along the Seagull Island in Guangzhou. MPs samples from leaves in five species showed various shapes, colors, compositions, sizes and abundance. Acanthus ilicifolius had an average fallout rate of 1223 items/m2/day which has the highest abundance of MPs in all samples. Four shapes of MPs were found in all leaves surfaces including fiber, fragment, pellet, and film, with fiber is the most. The dominant types of MPs in all leaves were cellulose and rayon. Most of the total MPs size were smaller than 2 mm. Clearly, the microstructures of each species leaf surfaces had an impact on its ability to retain MPs. The plants rough blade surfaces and big folds or gullies caused more particles to accumulate and had a higher MPs retention capacity. Overall, our study contributes to a better knowledge of the condition of MPs pollution in atmosphere and the connection between leaves structure and the retention of MPs, which indicates that mangrove plants are promising bioindicator of coastal atmospheric MPs pollution.

SHP-1 (Src homology region 2 domain-containing phosphatase 1) is a well-known negative regulator of T cells, whereas its close homolog SHP-2 is the long-recognized main signaling mediator of the PD-1 inhibitory pathway. However, recent studies have challenged the requirement of SHP-2 in PD-1 signaling, and follow-up studies further questioned the alternative idea that SHP-1 may replace SHP-2 in its absence. In this study, we systematically investigate the role of SHP-1 alone or jointly with SHP-2 in CD8+ T cells in a series of gene knockout mice. We show that although SHP-1 negatively regulates CD8+ T cell effector function during acute lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) infection, it is dispensable for CD8+ T cell exhaustion during chronic LCMV infection. Moreover, in contrast to the mortality of PD-1 knockout mice upon chronic LCMV infection, mice double deficient for SHP-1 and SHP-2 in CD8+ T cells survived without immunopathology. Importantly, CD8+ T cells lacking both phosphatases still differentiate into exhausted cells and respond to PD-1 blockade. Finally, we found that SHP-1 and SHP-2 suppressed effector CD8+ T cell expansion at the early and late stages, respectively, during chronic LCMV infection.

Hypersaline wastewater posed a challenge to microbial nitrogen removal processes. Herein, halophilic marine anammox bacteria (MAB) were applied to treat nitrogen-rich wastewater with 35-90 g/L salts for the first time. It was found that MAB, with low relative abundance (2.3-6.9 %), still exhibited good nitrogen removal efficiency (>90 %) under 35-70 g/L salts. The specific anammox activity peaked at 180.16 mg N/(g·VSS·d) at 65 g/L salts. MAB secreted more extracellular polymeric substances to resist the adverse effects of hypersaline stress. Nevertheless, the nitrogen removal deteriorated at 75 g/L salts, and further collapsed as the salinity increased. At 90 g/L salts, total nitrogen removal rate decreased by 74 % compared with that of 35 g/L salts. Besides, SBR1031 increased from 12.0 % (35 g/L salts) to 17.4 % (90 g/L salts) and became the dominant bacterial genus in the reactor. This work shed light on the treatment of hypersaline wastewater through MAB.

BACKGROUND: Decreased eosinophil level is associated with poor outcomes after mechanical thrombectomy in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS), but the underlying mechanism of this association is elusive. We aimed to assess the mediation effect of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) on the aforementioned association. METHODS: A total of 328 consecutive AIS patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy between May 2017 and March 2021 were analyzed. SICH was defined as any evidence of brain hemorrhage on CT scan with neurological deterioration. Regression analysis was used to assess the effect of eosinophils on sICH, and its effect on poor outcome. Mediation analysis was performed to assess the proportion of total effect by sICH on the association between eosinophils and poor outcome. RESULTS: Multivariate analysis revealed an independent association between eosinophil count and sICH after adjusting for potential confounders (odds ratio, 0.00; 95% CI, 0.00-0.01; P = 0.0141), which is consistent with the result of eosinophil count (dichotomous) as a categorical variable (odds ratio, 0.22; 95% CI, 0.11-0.46; P < 0.0001). Eosinophil count was negatively associated with poor outcome (odds ratio, 0.00; 95% CI, 0.00-0.02; P = 0.0021). Mediation analysis revealed that sICH partially mediated the negative relationship between eosinophil count and poor outcome (indirect effect=-0.1896; 95%CI: -0.3654 - -0.03, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: This study showed an important effect of sICH on the association between eosinophils and poor outcome.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the role of brain functional connectivity and nonlinear dynamic analysis in brain function assessment for infants with controlled infantile spasm (IS). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 14 children with controlled IS (IS group) who were admitted to the Department of Neurology, Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital, from January 2019 to January 2023. Twelve healthy children, matched for sex and age, were enrolled as the control group. Electroencephalogram (EEG) data were analyzed for both groups to compare the features of brain network, and nonlinear dynamic indicators were calculated, including approximate entropy, sample entropy, permutation entropy, and permutation Lempel-Ziv complexity. RESULTS: Brain functional connectivity showed that compared with the control group, the IS group had an increase in the strength of functional connectivity, and there was a significant difference between the two groups in the connection strength between the Fp2 and F8 channels (P<0.05). The network stability analysis showed that the IS group had a significantly higher network stability than the control group at different time windows (P<0.05). The nonlinear dynamic analysis showed that compared with the control group, the IS group had a significantly lower sample entropy of Fz electrode (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Abnormalities in brain network and sample entropy may be observed in some children with controlled IS, and it is suggested that quantitative EEG analysis parameters can serve as neurological biomarkers for evaluating brain function in children with IS.

Microplastics could act as vectors for the transport of harmful bacteria, such as pathogens and antibiotic resistance bacteria (ARB), but their combined effects have not been reported yet. Here, ARB Shigella flexneri with sulfonamides resistance and micro-polystyrene (micro-PS) were used to investigate their possible combined effects on the growth and expression of functional genes in Daphnia magna. Results showed that micro-PS colonized with S. flexneri were ingested by D. magna and blocked in their intestine after 24 h exposure. Changes were observed in the life history and morphology of D. magna, as well as the expression of functional genes in all treatments, but with no difference in the survival rate. We also determined the expression of six functional genes involved in energy and metabolism (arginine kinase, AK) and oxidative stress response (thioredoxin reductase, TRxR, catalase, CAT, and glutathione S-transferases, GSTs), as well as in growth, development and reproduction (vitellogenin, Vtg1 and ecdysone receptor, EcR). AK and Vtg1 did not show significant differences, however, EcR was down-regulated and the other three genes (TRxR, CAT, GSTs) were up-regulated in the combined-treated group. Antibiotic resistance gene (ARGs) sul1 was detected when exposed to micro-PS colonized with S. flexneri., suggesting that D. magna could acquire resistance genes through microplastic biofilms. These results indicated that MPs could act as a carrier of ARB to transfer ARGs into D. magna, and affect the life history, morphology, and the expression of related functional genes of D. magna, to adapt to the stress caused by MPs and ARB.

BACKGROUND: Acute basilar artery occlusion is a disabling and life-threatening condition. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of occluded vessel location on the prognostic outcomes of patients who underwent endovascular treatment for acute basilar artery occlusion. METHODS: Patient data for this study were obtained from the ATTENTION registry. Baseline data of the patients were described and compared across different occlusion locations. Univariable and multivariable regression analyses were performed to assess the effect of occluded vessel location on associated prognostic outcomes. RESULTS: A total of 1672 patients were included in the analysis, with 583 having distal occlusion, 540 having middle occlusion, and 549 having proximal occlusion. Unlike distal occlusion, both proximal and middle occlusions were significantly and negatively associated with favorable clinical outcomes (for modified Rankin Scale score 0-3: adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 0.634, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 0.493 to 0.816, P<0.001 in middle occlusion, and aOR 0.620, 95% CI 0.479 to 0.802, P<0.001 in proximal occlusion). Mortality was higher in patients with proximal and middle occlusions (aOR 1.461, 95% CI 1.123 to 1.902, P=0.005 in middle occlusion, and aOR 1.648, 95% CI 1.265 to 2.147, P<0.001 in proximal occlusion). The occluded vessel location was not associated with symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage. CONCLUSIONS: Proximal and middle basilar artery occlusions were predominantly associated with poor clinical outcomes and increased risk of death following endovascular treatment.

The unique dumbbell-shape of grass guard cells (GCs) is controlled by their cell walls which enable their rapid responses to the environment. The molecular mechanisms regulating the synthesis and assembly of GC walls are as yet unknown. Here we have identified BZU3, a maize gene encoding UDP-glucose 4-epimerase that regulates the supply of UDP-glucose during GC wall synthesis. The BZU3 mutation leads to significant decreases in cellular UDP-glucose levels. Immunofluorescence intensities reporting levels of cellulose and mixed-linkage glucans are reduced in the GCs, resulting in impaired local wall thickening. BZU3 also catalyzes the epimerization of UDP-N-acetylgalactosamine to UDP-N-acetylglucosamine, and the BZU3 mutation affects N-glycosylation of proteins that may be involved in cell wall synthesis and signaling. Our results suggest that the spatiotemporal modulation of BZU3 plays a dual role in controlling cell wall synthesis and glycosylation via controlling UDP-glucose/N-acetylglucosamine homeostasis during stomatal morphogenesis. These findings provide insights into the mechanisms controlling formation of the unique morphology of grass stomata.

Plastic and microplastic pollution has caused a great deal of ecological problems because of its persistence and potential adverse effects on human health. The degradation of plastics through biological processes is of great significance for ecological health, therefore, the feasibility of plastic degradation by microorganisms has attracted a lot of attention. This study comprises a preliminary discussion on the biodegradation mechanism and the advantages and roles of different bacterial enzymes, such as PET hydrolase and PCL-cutinase, in the degradation of different polymers, such as PET and PCL, respectively. With a particular focus on their modes of action and potential enzymatic mechanisms, this review sums up studies on the biological degradation of plastics and microplastics related to mechanisms and influencing factors, along with their enzymes in enhancing the degradation of synthetic plastics in the process. In addition, biodegradation of plastic is also affected by plastic additives and plasticizers. Plasticizers and additives in the composition of plastics can cause harmful impacts. To further improve the degradation efficiency of polymers, various pretreatments to improve the efficiency of biodegradation, which can cause a significant reduction in toxic plastic pollution, were also preliminarily discussed here. The existing research and data show a large number of microorganisms involved in plastic biodegradation, though their specific mechanisms have not been thoroughly explored yet. Therefore, there is a significant potential for employing various bacterial strains for efficient degradation of plastics to improve human health and safety.

Microplastics (MPs) contamination is widely found in marine organisms. Marine traditional Chinese medicines (MTCM) are derived from marine organisms, but there are no relevant reports on detecting MPs in MTCM. This study selected samples of MTCM from two representative pharmaceutical companies, Brand F and Brand Z, including mother-of-pearl, stone cassia, seaweed, pumice, oyster, kombu, calcined Concha Arcae, cuttlebone, and clam shell to detect and analyze the presence of MPs. The abundance, type, color, size, and composition of MPs were investigated. Varying degrees of MPs contamination was present in all MTCM. The abundance of MPs in different MTCM ranged from 0.07 to 9.53 items/g. Their type, color, and size are similar, mainly fiber, transparent and size <2 mm. The composition of MPs is primarily made of cotton, cellulose and rayon. This study contributes to the first record of MPs in MTCM. Our results show that microplastic pollution is common in MTCM, which may cause potential risk to patients consuming MTCM.

OBJECTIVE: We investigated the characteristics and factors influencing eye emotion recognition in self-limited epilepsy patients with centrotemporal spikes (SeLECTS) complicated with electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES). METHODS: We selected SeLECTS (n = 160) patients treated in the outpatient and inpatient departments of Anhui Children's Hospital from September 2020 to January 2022. According to the video electroencephalogram monitoring slow-wave index (SWI), SeLECTS patients with SWI < 50% were assigned into the typical SeLECTS group (n = 79), and patients with SWI ≥ 50% were assigned into the ESES group (n = 81). Patients in the two groups were assessed by The Eye Basic Emotion Discrimination Task (EBEDT) and The Eye Complex Emotion Discrimination Task (ECEDT), respectively. Comparisons were made with age-, sex- and education level-matched healthy control participants. The correlation between the characteristics of emotional discrimination disorder in the eye area and the clinical influencing factors was analyzed in ESES group, and p ≤ .050 was the threshold for significance. RESULTS: Relative to the healthy control group, scores of sadness and fear in the typical SeLECTS group were markedly lower (p = .018, p = .023), while differences in scores of disgust, happiness, surprise, and anger were not significantly different between the groups (p = .072, p = .162, p = .395, p = .380, respectively). Compared with the healthy control group, the ESES group had significantly low scores in recognition of sadness, fear, disgust, and surprise (p = .006, p = .016, p = .043 and p = .038, respectively). However, differences in recognition of happiness and anger between the groups were not significant (p = .665 and p = .272). Univariate logistic analysis showed that the score of eye recognition for sadness in the ESES group was affected by age of onset, SWI, ESES duration and number of seizures. The score of eye recognition for fear was mainly affected by SWI, while the score of eye recognition for disgust was affected by SWI and number of seizures. The surprised eye emotion recognition score was mainly affected by the number of seizures. Variables with p < .1 were considered to be independent variables of multivariable ordered logistic regression. Multivariate logistic analysis showed that sadness emotion recognition was mainly affected by SWI and ESES duration, while disgust was mainly affected by SWI. CONCLUSION: The typical SeLECTS group showed impaired emotion (sadness and fear) recognition function in the eye area. The ESES group was associated with more intense emotional (sadness, fear, disgust, and surprise) recognition impairment in the eye region. The higher the SWI, the younger the onset age and the longer the duration of ESES, while the more the number of seizures, the more serious the impairment of emotional recognition function in the affected eye area.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine and compare the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) and the standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of amino acids (AA) in soybean meal (SBM), cottonseed meal (CSM), and low-gossypol cottonseed meal (LCSM) fed to broiler chickens and laying hens. METHODS: Three semi-purified diets containing the identical crude protein concentration at 20% were formulated to contain SBM, CSM, or LCSM as the sole source of N. A N-free diet was also formulated to estimate the basal ileal endogenous losses of AA for broilers and hens. A total of 300 male Ross 308 chicks at one-day-old and 144 Hy-Line Brown laying hens at 30-week-old with initial egg production rate of 88.3%±1.0% were randomly allocated into 1 of 4 dietary treatments, respectively. RESULTS: CSM and LCSM showed more Arg and Cys+Met while less Lys, Ile, Leu, and Thr relative to SBM. Significant interactions existed between species and experimental diets for AID (except for Arg, Asp, Glu, Gly, and Pro) and SID (except for Arg, His, and Phe) of most AA. Most AA in diets showed higher AID (except for Lys) and SID (except for Lys, Met, and Ser) in broilers relative to laying hens. The AID and SID of all AA were significantly different between the three diets. In broilers, the AID and SID of most indispensable AA except for Arg in SBM and LCSM was higher than CSM. In laying hens, the AID and SID of most indispensable AA except for Arg, Met+Cys, and Phe in SBM was higher than CSM and LCSM. CONCLUSION: The accurate determination of AID and SID of AA in CSM and LCSM for broilers and layers benefits the application of CSM and LCSM in chicken diets. The cottonseed by-products CSM or LCSM showed the species-specific AA digestibility values for broilers and layers.

Heterogeneity in food resources is a major driver of local adaptation and speciation. Dietary specialization typically involves multiple life-history traits and may thus be limited by the extent to which these traits adapt in concert. Here, we use Drosophila melanogaster, representing an intermediate state in the generalist-specialist continuum, to explore the scope for dietary specialization. D. melanogaster has a close association with yeast, an essential but heterogeneous food resource. We quantify how different D. melanogaster strains from around the globe respond to different yeast species, across multiple yeast-dependent life-history traits including feeding, mating, egg-laying, egg development and survival. We find that D. melanogaster strains respond to different yeast species in different ways, indicating distinct fly strain-yeast interactions. However, we detect no evidence for trade-offs: fly performance tends to be positively rather than negatively correlated across yeast species. We also find that the responses to different yeast species are not aligned across traits: different life-history traits are maximized on different yeast species. Finally, we confirm that D. melanogaster is a resource generalist: it can grow, reproduce and survive on all the yeast species we tested. Together, these findings provide a possible explanation for the limited extent of dietary specialization in D. melanogaster.

Wide-band-gap insulators such as NiO offer the exciting prospect of coherently manipulating electronic correlations with strong optical fields. Contrary to metals where rapid dephasing of optical excitation via electronic processes occurs, the sub-gap excitation in charge-transfer insulators has been shown to couple to low-energy bosonic excitations. However, it is currently unknown if the bosonic dressing field is composed of phonons or magnons. Here we use the prototypical charge-transfer insulator NiO to demonstrate that 1.5 eV sub-gap optical excitation leads to a renormalised NiO band-gap in combination with a significant reduction of the antiferromagnetic order. We employ element-specific X-ray reflectivity at the FLASH free-electron laser to demonstrate the reduction of the upper band-edge at the O 1s-2p core-valence resonance (K-edge) whereas the antiferromagnetic order is probed via X-ray magnetic linear dichroism (XMLD) at the Ni 2p-3d resonance (L2-edge). Comparing the transient XMLD spectral line shape to ground-state measurements allows us to extract a spin temperature rise of 65 ± 5 K for time delays longer than 400 fs while at earlier times a non-equilibrium spin state is formed. We identify transient mid-gap states being formed during the first 200 fs accompanied by a band-gap reduction lasting at least up to the maximum measured time delay of 2.4 ps. Electronic structure calculations indicate that magnon excitations significantly contribute to the reduction of the NiO band gap.

The current study aimed to investigate the effects of a new probiotic compound developed as a potential alternative to synthetic antibiotics for broilers. A total of 360 newly hatched Arbor Acres male chicks were randomly divided into three treatment groups. Each treatment consisted of six replicates with 20 birds in each replicate. The negative control group was fed the basal diet. The positive control group was fed the basal diet supplemented with a commercial antimicrobial, virginiamycin, at 30 mg/kg of basal feed. The compound probiotics group was fed a basal diet containing 4.5 × 106 CFU of Lactobacillus LP184 and 2.4 × 106 CFU of Yeast SC167 per gram of basal feed. The feeding trial lasted for 42 days. The results showed that the compound probiotics were a competent alternative to synthetic antibiotics for improving the growth performance and carcass traits of broilers. The compound probiotics enhanced the immune and antioxidant capacities of the broilers, while antibiotics lacked such merits. The positive effects of compound probiotics could be attributed to an improvement in the intestinal morphology and cecal microbial diversity of broilers, effects which are distinct from those of antibiotics. These findings revealed the differences between probiotics and antibiotics in terms of improving broilers' performance and enriched the basic knowledge surrounding the intestinal microbial structure of broilers.

Magnetic nanoparticles such as FePt in the L10 phase are the bedrock of our current data storage technology. As the grains become smaller to keep up with technological demands, the superparamagnetic limit calls for materials with higher magnetocrystalline anisotropy. This, in turn, reduces the magnetic exchange length to just a few nanometers, enabling magnetic structures to be induced within the nanoparticles. Here, we describe the existence of spin-wave solitons, dynamic localized bound states of spin-wave excitations, in FePt nanoparticles. We show with time-resolved x-ray diffraction and micromagnetic modeling that spin-wave solitons of sub-10 nm sizes form out of the demagnetized state following femtosecond laser excitation. The measured soliton spin precession frequency of 0.1 THz positions this system as a platform to develop novel miniature devices.
