RESUMO

The colonization of aquatic to terrestrial habitats by brachyuran crabs requires genetic innovations as well as morphological adaptations to adapt to terrestrial environments. The genetic basis of such adaptive evolution, however, is largely unknown. This study focuses on terrestrialization in Geograpsus (Grapsidae) the only highly terrestrial genus in this family, which represents a notable example of terrestrial adaptive radiation. Here, we sequenced the mitogenomes of two Geograpsus species and used the mitogenomes of 215 representative crabs to construct phylogenetic and time frameworks that we used to infer terrestrial origins and evolution. Using mitochondrial genomic data, we demonstrated that marine crab ancestors began to settle on land during the early Eocene. Ocean acidification, the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), and mangrove expansion at that time may have driven the diversification and ecological expansion of these terrestrial crabs. Evolutionary analyses reveal strong positive selection signals on monophyletic lineages of Grapsidae, especially the terrestrial species of Geograpsus. Positively selected sites in functionally important regions of ND5 and ND4 may imply enhanced energy metabolism in Grapsidae compared to other crabs, and may have played an important role in their terrestrial adaptation. Overall, our work provides valuable resources and opportunities to reveal the adaptation of crabs to complex terrestrial environments.

RESUMO

Hole transporting layers (HTLs), strategically positioned between electrode and light absorber, play a pivotal role in shaping charge extraction and transport in organic solar cells (OSCs). However, the commonly used poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) HTL, with its hygroscopic and acidic nature, undermines the operational durability of OSC devices. Herein, an environmentally friendly approach is developed utilizing nickel acetate tetrahydrate (NiAc·4H2O) and [2-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)ethyl] phosphonic acid (2PACz) as the NiAc·4H2O/2PACz HTL, aiming at overcoming the limitations posed by the conventional PEDOT:PSS one. Encouragingly, a remarkable power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 19.12% is obtained for the OSCs employing NiAc·4H2O/2PACz as the HTL, surpassing that of devices with the PEDOT:PSS HTL (17.59%), which is ranked among the highest ones of OSCs. This improvement is attributed to the appropriate work function, enhanced hole mobility, facilitated exciton dissociation efficiency, and lower recombination loss of NiAc·4H2O/2PACz-based devices. Furthermore, the NiAc·4H2O/2PACz-based OSCs exhibit superior operational stability compared to their PEDOT:PSS-based counterparts. Of significant note, the NiAc·4H2O/2PACz HTL demonstrates a broad generality, boosting the PCE of the PM6:PY-IT and PM6:Y6-based OSCs from 16.47% and 16.79% (with PEDOT:PSS-based analogs as HTLs) to 17.36% and 17.57%, respectively. These findings underscore the substantial potential of the NiAc·4H2O/2PACz HTL in advancing OSCs, offering improved performance and stability, thereby opening avenue for highly efficient and reliable solar energy harvesting technologies.

RESUMO

Complete mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) can provide important information regarding the molecular evolution and phylogenetic relationships of marine invertebrates, especially in Brachyura. Only one Cancroidea species of mitogenomes has been sequenced before; in this research, the mitogenomic characteristics of Metacarcinus magister (Cancridae: Cancroidea) are newly studied. The length of the M. magister mitogenome was 48,820 bp, and it contained the typical 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. We performed a series of analyses on the characteristics of the mNCR of M. magister. The phylogenetics, life circumstances, and selective pressures were all analyzed to explain the formation of this length, which revealed the length of the M. magister mitogenome to be approximately three times greater than the normal length of Brachyuran mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analyses based on a dataset of 215 Decapodan mitogenomes indicated that all Eriphioidea crabs were clustered together as a group. Moreover, the rearrangement mechanism of the Cancroidea species was predicted to provide stronger evidence for the phylogenetic analysis. In general, the results obtained in this study will contribute to a better understanding of the cause of the unusual length of the M. magister mitogenome and provide new insights into the phylogeny of Brachyura.

RESUMO

Bile microecology changes play an important role in the occurrence and development of choledocholithiasis. At present, there is no clear report on the difference of bile microecology between asymptomatic patients with gallbladder polyps and choledocholithiasis. This study compared bile microecology between gallbladder polyp patients and patients with choledocholithiasis to identify risk factors for primary choledocholithiasis. This study was conducted in 3 hospitals in different regions of China. Bile samples from 26 patients with gallbladder polyps and 31 patients with choledocholithiasis were collected by laparoscopic cholecystectomy and endoscopic retrograde choledocholithiasis cholangiography (ERCP), respectively. The collected samples were used for 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry analysis. The α-diversity of bile microecological colonies was similar between gallbladder polyp and choledocholithiasis, but the ß-diversity was different. Firmicutes, Proteobacteri, Bacteroidota and Actinobacteriota are the most common phyla in the gallbladder polyp group and choledocholithiasis group. However, compared with the gallbladder polyp patients, the abundance of Actinobacteriota has significantly lower in the choledocholithiasis group. At the genera level, the abundance of a variety of bacteria varies between the two groups, and Enterococcus was significantly elevated in choledocholithiasis group. In addition, bile biofilm formation-Pseudomonas aeruginosa was more metabolically active in the choledocholithiasis group, which was closely related to stone formation. The analysis of metabolites showed that a variety of metabolites decreased in the choledocholithiasis group, and the concentration of beta-muricholic acid decreased most significantly. For the first time, our study compared the bile of gallbladder polyp patients with patients with choledocholithiasis, and suggested that the change in the abundance of Actinobacteriota and Enterococcus were closely related to choledocholithiasis. The role of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm in the formation of choledocholithiasis was discovered for the first time, and some prevention schemes for choledocholithiasis were discussed, which has important biological and medical significance.

RESUMO

Triangulene, one unique class of zigzag-edged triangular graphene molecules, has attracted tremendous research interest. In this work, as an ultimate phase of the Mott insulator, we present the realization of the atomic-limit Mott insulator in experimentally synthesized [4]triangulene frameworks ([4]-TGFs) from first-principles calculations. The frontier molecular orbitals of the nonmagnetic [4]triangulene consist of three coupled corner modes. After the isolated [4]triangulene is assembled into [4]-TGF, one special enantiomorphic flat band is created through the coupling of these corner modes, which is identified to be a second-order topological insulator with half-filled topological corner states at the Fermi level. Moreover, [4]-TGF prefers an antiferromagnetic ground state under Hubbard interactions, which further splits these metallic zero-energy states into an atomic-limit Mott insulator with spin-polarized corners. Since the fractional filling of topological corner states is a smoking-gun signature of higher-order topology, our results demonstrate a universal approach to explore the atomic-limit Mott insulators in higher-order topological materials.

RESUMO

LINC00624 is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) which was seldom investigated before. The goal of our study is to clarify the expression and underlying network of LINC00624 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Here, both HCC and normal living cell lines were employed. Real-time quantitative PCR and western blot were used to determine the pattern of genes and proteins. Colony formation, flow cytometry and western blot tests were used to determine cell proliferation and apoptosis, respectively. Dual luciferase was used to verify molecule-molecule interactions. LINC00624 expression was increased in HCC cell lines and miR-342-3p was decreased. Elimination of LINC00624 increased proliferation while decreasing cell apoptosis. LINC00624 acted as a molecular sponge for miR-342-3p, hence facilitating DNAJC5 expression. Functional tests demonstrated that miR-342-3p suppression could reverse the effect of LINC00624 silence and overexpression of DNAJC5 significantly mitigated the biological consequences of miR-342-3p. These finding demonstrated that LINC00624 aggravated HCC progression by modulating proliferation and apoptosis via targeting miR-342-3p/DNAJC5 axis. These data support that inhibition of LINC00624 may a potential treatment strategies of HCC.

RESUMO

The past decade has witnessed substantial progress in understanding nontrivial band topology and discovering exotic topological materials in condensed-matter physics. Recently, topological physics has been further extended to the chemistry discipline, leading to the emergence of topological catalysis. In principle, the topological effect is detectable in catalytic reactions, but no conclusive evidence has been reported yet. Herein, by precisely manipulating the topological surface state (TSS) of Bi2Se3 nanosheets through thickness control and the application of a magnetic field, we provide direct experimental evidence to illustrate topological catalysis for CO2 electroreduction. With and without the cooperation of TSS, CO2 is mainly reduced into liquid fuels (HCOOH and H2C2O4) and CO, exhibiting high (up to 90% at -1.1 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode) and low Faradaic efficiency (FE), respectively. Theoretically, the product and FE difference can be attributed to the TSS-regulated adsorption of key intermediates and the reduced barrier of the potential-determining step. Our work demonstrates the inherent correlation between band topology and electrocatalysis, paving a new avenue for designing high-performance catalysts.

RESUMO

The Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) is an important commercial species in China. E. sinensis is typically farmed in rice-crab symbiosis, as an important ecological farming model. However, E. sinensis is often exposed to a high ammonia environment due to the application of nitrogen fertilizers essential for rice growth. We investigated the molecular mechanisms in the gills of E. sinensis exposed to high ammonia at transcriptional and histological levels. We randomly assigned E. sinensis to two groups (control group, CG; ammonia stress group, AG), and gill samples were excised from the CG and AG groups for histopathological and transcriptome analyses. The histopathological evaluation revealed that ammonia stress damaged the gills of E. sinensis. The transcriptome analysis showed that some essential genes, including Xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH), Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase-L3 (UCHL3), O-linked N-acetylglucosamine transferase (OGT), Cathepsin B (CTSB), and Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 W (UBE2W) changed significantly during ammonia exposure. These genes are related to ammonia detoxification, the immune response, and apoptosis. This study demonstrated the molecular response mechanism of E. sinensis gills to ammonia stress at the transcriptional and histological levels. This study provides insight for further study on the molecular mechanism of ammonia stress in crustaceans and supplies technical support for rice crab symbiosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There is currently no objective and accurate clinical assessment of reticular neuromuscular control in healthy subjects or patients with upper motor neuron injury. As a result, clinical dysfunctions of neuromuscular control could just be semi-quantified, efficacies and mechanisms of various therapies for neuromuscular control improving are difficult to verify. METHODS: Fourteen healthy participants were required to maintain standing balance in the kinetostatics model of Gusu Constraint Standing Training (GCST). A backward and upward constraint force was applied to their trunk at 0°, 20° and 25°, respectively. The multiplex recurrence network (MRN) was applied to analyze the surface electromyography signals of 16 muscles of bilateral lower limbs during the tests. Different levels of MRN network indices were utilized to assess reticular neuromuscular control. RESULTS: Compared with the 0° test, the MRN indices related to muscle coordination of bilateral lower limbs, of unilateral lower limb and of inter limbs showed significant increase when participants stood in 20° and 25° tests (P < 0.05). The indices related to muscle contribution of gluteal, anterior thigh and calf muscles significantly increased when participants stood in 20° and 25° tests (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: This study applied the dynamical network indices of MRN to analyze the changes of neuromuscular control of lower limbs of healthy participants in the kinetostatics model of GCST. Results showed that the overall coordination of lower limb muscles would be significantly enhanced during performing GCST, partly by the enhancement of neuromuscular control of single lower limb, and partly by the enhancement of joint control across lower limbs. In particular, the muscles in buttocks, anterior thighs and calves played a more important role in the overall coordination, and their involvement was significantly increased. The MRN could provide details of control at the bilateral lower limbs, unilateral lower limb, inter limbs, and single muscle levels, and has the potential to be a new tool for assessing the reticular neuromuscular control. RESUMO

Kagome lattice hosts a plethora of quantum states arising from the interplay of topology, spin-orbit coupling, and electron correlations. Here, we report symmetry-breaking electronic orders tunable by an applied magnetic field in a model Kagome magnet FeSn consisting of alternating stacks of two-dimensional Fe3Sn Kagome and Sn2 honeycomb layers. On the Fe3Sn layer terminated FeSn thin films epitaxially grown on SrTiO3(111) substrates, we observe trimerization of the Kagome lattice using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, breaking its six-fold rotational symmetry while preserving the translational symmetry. Such a trimerized Kagome lattice shows an energy-dependent contrast reversal in dI/dV maps, which is significantly enhanced by bound states induced by Sn vacancy defects. This trimerized Kagome lattice also exhibits stripe modulations that are energy-dependent and tunable by an applied in-plane magnetic field, indicating symmetry-breaking nematicity from the entangled magnetic and charge degrees of freedom in antiferromagnet FeSn.

RESUMO

Laboratory-scale all-polymer solar cells (all-PSCs) have exhibited remarkable power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) exceeding 19%. However, the utilization of hazardous solvents and nonvolatile liquid additives poses challenges for eco-friendly commercialization, resulting in the trade-off between device efficiency and operation stability. Herein, an innovative approach based on isomerized solid additive engineering is proposed, employing volatile dithienothiophene (DTT) isomers to modulate intermolecular interactions and facilitate molecular stacking within the photoactive layers. Through elucidating the underlying principles of the DTT-induced polymer assembly on molecular level, a PCE of 18.72% is achieved for devices processed with environmentally benign solvents, ranking it among the highest record values for eco-friendly all-PSCs. Significantly, such superiorities of the DTT-isomerized strategy afford excellent compatibility with large-area blade-coating techniques, offering a promising pathway for industrial-scale manufacturing of all-PSCs. Moreover, these devices demonstrate enhanced thermal stability with a promising extrapolated T80 lifetime of 14 000 h, further bolstering their potential for sustainable technological advancement.

RESUMO

Although the topological band theory is applicable to both Fermionic and bosonic systems, the same electronic and phononic topological phases are seldom reported in one natural material. In this work, we show the presence of a dual-higher-order topology in hydrogen-substituted graphdiyne (H-GDY) by first-principles calculations. The intriguing enantiomorphic flat-bands are realized in both electronic and phononic bands of H-GDY, which is confirmed to be an organic 2D second-order topological insulator (SOTI). Most importantly, we found that the topological corner states are pseudospin polarized in H-GDY, exhibiting a clockwise or counterclockwise texture perpendicular to the radial direction. Our results not only identify the existence of the dual-higher-order topology in covalent organic frameworks but also uncover a unique pseudospin polarization-coordinate locking relation, further extending the well-known spin-momentum locking relation in conventional topological insulators.

RESUMO

Tuerkayana is of particular interest because it has been separated, in recent years, from Cardisoma and Discoplax but studies of its taxonomic status, especially from a whole mitochondrial genome perspective, have been lacking. In this study, the mitogenomes of four species (Tuerkayana magnum, Tuerkayana rotundum, Tuerkayana hirtipes, and Tuerkayana celeste) of Tuerkayana are sequenced and contrasted with other species in Brachyura for the first time. The phylogenetic tree of Brachyura, which includes 206 crab species (189 species of Brachyuran and 17 Anomura species) with a complete mitogenome, was constructed to evaluate the phylogenetic position of Tuerkayana and Gecarcinidae within Brachyuran, and explore the monophyly of Gecarcinidae. Furthermore, two single gene trees based on cox1 and 16SrRNA separately within interspecies of Gecarcinidae were reconstructed, providing molecular evidence for Tuerkayana and further clarifying the division of genera in Gecarcinidae. Based on the mitogenome dataset of 206 crabs, the branch-site model was utilized to explore selective pressure in individual codons with CodeML. The strong selective pressure shown in nad6 indicates that it may have played a significant role in the evolution of Gecarcinidae.

RESUMO

The traditional surgical methods to the fracture of the inferior patellar fracture include steel wire tension band fixation and inferior patellar resection, which have many disadvantages. In order to overcome the disadvantages of traditional surgery, we innovated and improved the double row anchor suture bridge technology to the treat the inferior patellar fracture. This study is to investigate the method, technique and clinical efficacy of double-row anchor suture bridge technique in the treatment of inferior pole fractures of patella. Between January 2019 and March 2021, 36 patients with inferior pole fractures of patella underwent the surgery with the double-row anchor suture bridge technique. 28 injury cases were caused by falls while 8 injury cases were from car crashes. The operation time, amount of intraoperative bleeding and complications were recorded. Radiological assessments and Bostman score were performed 1, 3, and 6 months post-operation and at the most recent follow-ups. The study sample consisted of 19 males and 17 females, aged 31 to 72 years old. The operation time was (54-76) minutes. All incisions healed in 1 stage. No complications such as incision infection, flap necrosis and nerve injury occurred. Patients in this group were followed up for 10 to 18 months, with an average follow-up of 12 months. All fractures healed in 10 to 20 weeks, with an average healing time of 12 weeks. At the last follow-up, the Bostman score was (27.5 ± 3.3), excellent in 32 cases and good in 2 cases, with an excellent rate of 94.4%. The range of motion of the knee joint was (-2.6 ± 2.0)° when the knee was extended and (122 ± 5.0)° when the knee was bent. The muscle strength of quadriceps femoris was grade 5. Double-row anchor suture bridge technique is applied to inferior pole fractures of patella by virtue of its various effects, such as the complete preservation of the inferior pole fragments during the operation, satisfactory fracture reduction, firm fixation, and meeting patients' requirements for early postoperative ambulation. In summary, double-row anchor suture bridge technique is an ideal surgical procedure for the treatment of the inferior pole fracture of patella with safety, reliability and high satisfaction.

RESUMO

Chitinase is a kind of glycoside hydrolase which is widely distributed in nature and encoded by multiple genes to catalyze the decomposition of chitin, which plays an important role in the molting and pathogen defense of crustaceans. However, the research on chitinase in crustaceans is mainly focused on a few species with economic value. In this study, full-length cDNA sequences of the HtCHT1, HtCHT3 and HtCHT4 genes were cloned from the mudflat crab Helice tientsinensis by RACE, and the sequences were analyzed. The results showed that the full-length 2,229 bp of HtCHT1 gene encoded 627 amino acids, while the full-length 2,191 bp of HtCHT3 gene produced 489 amino acids, and the full-length 3,312 bp of HtCHT4 gene encoded 664 amino acids. Bioinformatics analysis showed that all the obtained chitinase proteins had the glycosyl hydrolase family 18 (GH18) catalytic domain and chitin-binding domain (ChtBD2), furthermore, HtCHT1 and HtCHT4 proteins had signal peptide domains at N-terminal. Phylogenetic analysis showed that different types of chitinase were clustered, and HtCHTs were closely related to chitinases in the Eriocheir sinensis. Expression profile analysis showed that the HtCHT1, HtCHT3 and HtCHT4 were significantly expressed in hepatopancreas. Furthermore, the expression of three genes was significantly up-regulated in hepatopancreas after the Vibrio parahaemolyticus challenge. These results suggested that HtCHT1, HtCHT3 and HtCHT4 were belonged to the CHITINASE gene family in H. tientsinensis and were potentially involved in the antibacterial immune response. This study provides essential information for further research of chitinase in H. tientsinensis and even crustaceans.

RESUMO

A single-layer Cr3 (HITP)2 (HITP = 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaiminotriphenylene) conjugated metal-organic framework (c-MOF) is synthesized under ultrahigh vacuum conditions by substituting Cr for Ni in Ni3 (HITP)2 template. As revealed by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and scanning tunneling spectroscopy, while codeposition of Cr atoms and 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaaminotriphenylene precursors produces irregular branches, crystalline Cr3 (HITP)2 frameworks are obtained by depositing Cr atoms to the Ni3 (HITP)2 templates. The density functional theory calculations reveal that the binding energy between Cr and HITP ligands is much higher than that for Ni, which hampers the growth of crystalline Cr3 (HITP)2 frameworks through direct coordination assembly but makes the substitution reaction energetically favorable. This work demonstrates a new strategy to prepare high-quality early-transition-metal-based c-MOFs under ultrahigh vacuum conditions.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study sought to assess the predictive performance of optical coherence tomography (OCT) images for the response of diabetic macular edema (DME) patients to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy generated from baseline images using generative adversarial networks (GANs). METHODS: Patient information, including clinical and imaging data, was obtained from inpatients at the Ophthalmology Department of Qilu Hospital. 715 and 103 pairs of pre-and post-treatment OCT images of DME patients were included in the training and validation sets, respectively. The post-treatment OCT images were used to assess the validity of the generated images. Six different GAN models (CycleGAN, PairGAN, Pix2pixHD, RegGAN, SPADE, UNIT) were applied to predict the efficacy of anti-VEGF treatment by generating OCT images. Independent screening and evaluation experiments were conducted to validate the quality and comparability of images generated by different GAN models. RESULTS: OCT images generated f GAN models exhibited high comparability to the real images, especially for edema absorption. RegGAN exhibited the highest prediction accuracy over the CycleGAN, PairGAN, Pix2pixHD, SPADE, and UNIT models. Further analyses were conducted based on the RegGAN. Most post-therapeutic OCT images (95/103) were difficult to differentiate from the real OCT images by retinal specialists. A mean absolute error of 26.74 ± 21.28 µm was observed for central macular thickness (CMT) between the synthetic and real OCT images. CONCLUSION: Different generative adversarial networks have different prognostic efficacy for DME, and RegGAN yielded the best performance in our study. Different GAN models yielded good accuracy in predicting the OCT-based response to anti-VEGF treatment at one month. Overall, the application of GAN models can assist clinicians in prognosis prediction of patients with DME to design better treatment strategies and follow-up schedules.

RESUMO

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) contributed crucial information, which could improve the better understanding of molecular phylogenetic analysis, evolution, and gene rearrangements. However, only a few Coenobitidae and Albuneidae mitogenomes have been described, and controversies about the Anomuran phylogeny remain. Here, we determined three Coenobitidae species (Coenobita perlatus, Coenobita rugosus, Coenobita clypeatus) and one Albuneidae species (Emerita talpoida). As the representative species of genera or families, and even the first species of the genus, supplementing these four species is essential to study the phylogenetic relationships within Anomura. Most of the four novel mitogenomes have the typical 37 genes, except for E. talpoida, which lacked trnF. Through combining these new data with 31 Anomuran mitogenomes from Genbank, different gene rearrangement patterns and internal phylogenetic relationships of Anomura were investigated. In our phylogeny analysis, all the Anomuran species were clustered into one group, and the polyphyly of Paguroidea was well supported. Moreover, various peculiar mitochondrial gene orders (MGOs) were summarized among Anomura and preliminary determined their rearrangement mechanisms through CREx. Twenty different MGOs were suggested in our research, and we were focused seven MGO patterns (Pattern A-J) in the process of discussing the gene rearrangement mechanism. Currently making full use of the large taxon sampling, our results provide valuable information on the evolutionary status of Anomuran species and are available for systematic rearrangement and phylogenetic analyses.

RESUMO

Realization of ferromagnetism in the two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) crystals opens up a vital route to understand the magnetic ordering in the 2D limit and to design novel spintronics. Here, we report enriched layer-number-dependent magnetotransport properties in the vdW ferromagnet Fe5GeTe2. By studying the magnetoresistance and anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in nanoflakes with thicknesses down to monolayer, we demonstrate that while the bulk crystals exhibit soft ferromagnetism with an in-plane magnetic anisotropy, hard ferromagnetism develops upon thinning, and a perpendicular easy-axis anisotropy is realized in bilayer flakes, which is accompanied by a pronounced enhancement of AHE because of extrinsic mechanisms. For the monolayer flakes, the hard ferromagnetism is replaced by spin-glass-like behavior, in accordance with the localization effect in the 2D limit. Our results highlight the thickness-based tunability of the magnetotransport properties in the atomically thin vdW magnets that promises engineering of high-performance spintronic devices.

RESUMO

As an intriguing topological phase, higher-order topological insulators have attracted tremendous attention, but the candidate materials are limited in artificial and inorganic systems. In this work, we propose a universal approach to search for two-dimensional (2D) second-order topological insulators (SOTIs) in covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with C3 symmetric cores. The underlying mechanism is illustrated through tight-binding calculations in a star lattice, showing the 2D SOTI in an overlooked energy window between two Kagome-bands with four types of nontrivial band structures. The emergence of the unique topological edge and corner states can be understood from the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. Furthermore, using the frontier orbital of the monomer building block as an indicator, the 2D SOTI is directly confirmed in three realistic COFs by first-principles calculations. Our results not only extend the concept of organic topological insulators from first-order to second-order but also demonstrate the universal existence of intrinsic higher-order topology in 2D COFs.
