BACKGROUND: Surgical site infection (SSI) is a significant concern due to its potential to cause delayed wound healing and prolonged hospital stays. This study aims to develop a predictive model in patients with Crohn's disease. METHODS: We conducted single-factor and multi-factor logistic regression analyses to identify risk factors, resulting in the development of a logistic regression model and the creation of a nomogram. The model's effect was validated by employing enhanced bootstrap resampling techniques, calibration curves, and DCA curves. Finally, we investigated the risk factors for wall and intra-abdominal infections separately. RESULTS: 90 of 675 patients (13.3 %) developed SSI. Several independent risk factors for SSI were identified, including higher postoperative day one neutrophil count (p = 0.033), higher relative blood loss (p = 0.018), female gender (p = 0.021), preoperative corticosteroid use (p = 0.007), Montreal classification A1 and L2 (p < 0.05), previous intestinal resection (p = 0.017), and remaining lesions (p = 0.015). Additionally, undergoing strictureplasty (p = 0.041) is a protective factor against SSI. These nine variables were used to develop an SSI prediction model presented as a nomogram. The model demonstrated strong discrimination (adjusted C-statistic=0.709, 95 % CI: 0.659∼0.757) and precise calibration. The decision curve showed that the nomogram was clinically effective within a probability threshold range of 3 % to 54 %. Further subgroup analysis revealed distinct risk factors for wall infections and intra-abdominal infections. CONCLUSION: We established a new predictive model, which can guide the prevention and postoperative care of SSI after Crohn's disease bowel resection surgery to minimize its occurrence rate.

Numerous small biomolecules exist in the human body and play roles in various biological and pathological processes. Small molecules are believed not to induce intrafibrillar mineralization alone. They are required to work in synergy with noncollagenous proteins (NCPs) and their analogs, e.g. polyelectrolytes, for inducing intrafibrillar mineralization, as the polymer-induced liquid-like precursor (PILP) process has been well-documented. In this study, we demonstrate that small charged molecules alone, such as sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium citrate, and (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane, could directly mediate fibrillar mineralization. We propose that small charged molecules might be immobilized in collagen fibrils to form the polyelectrolyte-like collagen complex (PLCC) via hydrogen bonds. The PLCC could attract CaP precursors along with calcium and phosphate ions for inducing mineralization without any polyelectrolyte additives. The small charged molecule-mediated mineralization process was evidenced by Cryo-TEM, AFM, SEM, FTIR, ICP-OES, etc., as the PLCC exhibited both characteristic features of collagen fibrils and polyelectrolyte with increased charges, hydrophilicity, and density. This might hint at one mechanism of pathological biomineralization, especially for understanding the ectopic calcification process.

BACKGROUND: Adverse left ventricular remodeling is a significant cardiovascular predictor for patients with coronary artery disease and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). However, the remodeling indexes reflecting left ventricular spherization by myocardial perfusion imaging are underexplored. METHODS AND RESULTS: 727 patients (mean age 59.8±13.5 years, 329 women) diagnosed or suspected coronary artery disease with preserved LVEF who underwent resting myocardial perfusion imaging were retrospectively enrolled. The myocardial perfusion imaging findings including the total perfusion deficit and sphericity indexes (shape index (SI) and eccentricity index (EI) obtained from gated (QGS) and non-gated (QPS) images) were collected. Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) were followed up for 45.1±22.0 months. All patients were divided into 4 subgroups based on total perfusion deficit at 10% and LVEF at 65%. Univariable comparative analyses were performed in 5 cohorts (all patients and 4 subgroups). Patients who experienced MACE displayed higher SI and/or lower EI (all P<0.05). Kaplan-Meier survival analyses suggested significant differences for SIQPS in all 5 cohorts, for EIQPS and EIQGS in 4 cohorts, and for end-systolic and end-diastolic SIQGS in 3 cohorts (all P<0.05). Multivariate Cox analysis showed that abnormal SI and EI remained statistically significant predictors for MACE after adjusting for total perfusion deficit, LVEF, and other confounding factors. CONCLUSIONS: For patients diagnosed or suspected of coronary artery disease with preserved or supra-normal LVEF, resting sphericity indexes by myocardial perfusion imaging displayed incremental long-term prognostic value. Among these indicators, SIQPS is particularly promising across different perfusion or preserved functional conditions.

Hydrogel dressings with multiple functions are ideal options for wound repair. This study developed hydrogel dressings by interpenetrating the physically crosslinked xanthan gum (XG)/carboxylated chitosan (CCS) network and the chemically crosslinked polyacrylamide (PAAm) network via a one-pot method. The XG-CCS/PAAm hydrogels were found to display tunable mechanical properties, due to the formation of strong network structure. The hydrogels exhibited the strongest tensile strength of 0.6 MPa at an XG/CCS ratio of 40/60, while the largest compressive strength of 4.5 MPa is achieved at an XG/CCS ratio of 60/40. Moreover, the hydrogel with an XG/CCS ratio of 60/40 exhibited desirable adhesion strength on porcine skin, which was 3.7 kPa. It also had a swelling ratio, as high as 1200 %. After loading with cephalexin, the XG-CCS/PAAm hydrogels can deliver the antibacterial drugs following a first-order kinetic. As a result, both E. coli and S. aureus can be completely inactivated by the cefalexin-loaded hydrogels after 12 h. Furthermore, the XG-CCS/PAAm hydrogels were found to exhibit excellent biocompatibility as well as effective wound healing ability, as proven by the in vitro and in vivo tests. In this regard, XG-CCS/PAAm hydrogels can act as promising multifunctional wound dressings.

While previous observational studies have suggested a link between leukocyte counts and vascular dementia (VD), the causal relationship between leukocyte counts and various subtypes of VD remains elusive. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between five types of leukocyte counts and VD, with the goal of improving prevention and treatment strategies. In this study, leukocyte counts were used as the exposure variable, with genome-wide association study (GWAS) data sourced from both the UK Biobank and the Blood Cell Consortium. Additionally, GWAS data for five subtypes of vascular dementia were obtained from the FinnGen database. We conducted rigorous statistical analysis and visualization using Mendelian randomization (MR) to elucidate the potential causal relationship between leukocyte counts and vascular dementia. This study, utilizing MR analysis with data from the UK Biobank and Blood Cell Consortium, identified significant causal associations between increased lymphocyte counts and VD. Specifically, lymphocyte counts were found to be causally related to multiple and mixed VD subtypes. Sensitivity analyses, including MR-Egger regression and MR-PRESSO tests, confirmed the robustness of these findings, with no evidence of reverse causality or significant horizontal pleiotropy detected. The results underscore a potential inflammatory or immunological mechanism in the pathogenesis of VD, highlighting lymphocytes as a key component in their etiology. This investigation establishes a robust association between elevated lymphocyte and leukocyte counts and an increased risk of VD, emphasizing the roles of inflammation, immune activation, and hematological factors in disease pathogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Kanamycin (KAN) residues in animal-derived foods continuously enter the human body, which will pose serious threats to human health such as hearing loss, nephrotoxicity and other complications. Therefore, to sensitively detect KAN residues by a reliable technology is extremely urgent in food quality and safety. Compared with traditional methods being limited by cost and complexity, photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensors benefit from some merits such as rapid response, excellent sensitivity and good stability. In this study, the construction of a highly efficient PEC platform to realize KAN residues detection is discussed. RESULTS: Herein, a novel p-n heterojunction consisting of flower-like BiOI microspheres and graphite carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanoflakes was developed to establish a PEC aptasensor for KAN detection at 0 V. The prepared g-C3N4/BiOI heterostructure showed not only significantly enhanced PEC activity due to the larger specific surface area but also greatly increased charge separation efficiency owing to the strong internal electric field. Meanwhile, using g-C3N4/BiOI as a highly efficient photoactive material for binding amine-functionalized aptamers to capture KAN, the photocurrent signals showed a 'turn off' mode to achieve the sensitive detection of KAN. The proposed PEC aptasensor exhibited linear response for KAN from 5 × 10-9 to 3 × 10-7 mol L-1 with a low detection limit of 1.31 × 10-9 mol L-1, and satisfactory recoveries (97.44-107.38 %) were obtained in real food samples analysis. SIGNIFICANCE: This work presented a novel p-n heterojunction-based PEC aptasensor with strong selectivity and stability, rendering it allowed to detect KAN in animal-derived foods including milk, honey and pork. Additionally, the detection range satisfied the MRLs for KAN specified by the national standards, demonstrating the potential application for food analysis. The study provides a new insight into the development of efficient and practical biosensors for antibiotic residues detection.

Nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) embody excellent potential in cancer therapy. However, as a small molecule, their targeted delivery and precise, controllable release are urgently needed to achieve accurate cancer therapy. In this paper, a novel US-responsive bifunctional molecule (SD) and hyaluronic acid-modified MnO2 nanocarrier was developed, and a US-responsive NO and ROS controlled released nanoplatform was constructed. US can trigger SD to release ROS and NO simultaneously at the tumor site. Thus, SD served as acoustic sensitizer for sonodynamic therapy and NO donor for gas therapy. In the tumor microenvironment, the MnO2 nanocarrier can effectively deplete the highly expressed GSH, and the released Mn2+ can make H2O2 to produce .OH by Fenton-like reaction, which exhibited a strong chemodynamic effect. The high concentration of ROS and NO in cancer cell can induce cancer cell apoptosis ultimately. In addition, toxic ONOO-, which was generated by the reaction of NO and ROS, can effectively cause mitochondrial dysfunction, which induced the apoptosis of tumor cells. The 131I was labeled on the nanoplatform, which exhibited internal radiation therapy for tumor therapy. In -vitro and -vivo experiments showed that the nanoplatform has enhanced biocompatibility, and efficient anti-tumor potential, and it achieves synergistic sonodynamic/NO/chemodynamic/radionuclide therapy for cancer.

Atherosclerosis, as a chronic cardiovascular disease driven by inflammation, can lead to arterial stenosis and thrombosis, which seriously threatens human life and health. Achieving the timely monitoring of atherosclerosis is an important measure to reduce acute cardiovascular diseases. Compared with other imaging platforms, fluorescence imaging technology has the characteristics of excellent sensitivity, high spatiotemporal resolution and real-time imaging, which is very suitable for direct visualization of molecular processes and abnormalities of atherosclerosis. Recently, researchers have strived to design a variety of fluorescent probes, from single-mode fluorescent probes to fluorescent-combined dual/multimode probes, to enrich the imaging and detection of atherosclerosis. Therefore, this review aims to provide an overview of currently investigated fluorescent probes in the context of atherosclerosis, summarize relevant published studies showing applications of different types of fluorescent probes in the early-stage and other stages to detect atherosclerosis, give effective biological targets and discuss the latest progress and some limitations. Finally, some insights are provided for the development of a new generation of more accurate and efficient fluorescent probes.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to establish radiomics models based on positron emission tomography (PET) images to longitudinally predict transition from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's disease (AD). METHODS: In our study, 278 MCI patients from the ADNI database were analyzed, where 60 transitioned to AD (pMCI) and 218 remained stable (sMCI) over 48 months. Patients were divided into a training set (n = 222) and a validation set (n = 56). We first employed voxel-based analysis of 18F-FDG PET images to identify brain regions that present significant SUV difference between pMCI and sMCI groups. Radiomic features were extracted from these regions, key features were selected, and predictive models were developed for individual and combined brain regions. The models' effectiveness was evaluated using metrics like AUC to determine the most accurate predictive model for MCI progression. RESULTS: Voxel-based analysis revealed four brain regions implicated in the progression from MCI to AD. These include ROI1 within the Temporal lobe, ROI2 and ROI3 in the Thalamus, and ROI4 in the Limbic system. Among the predictive models developed for these individual regions, the model utilizing ROI4 demonstrated superior predictive accuracy. In the training set, the AUC for the ROI4 model was 0.803 (95% CI 0.736, 0.865), and in the validation set, it achieved an AUC of 0.733 (95% CI 0.559, 0.893). Conversely, the model based on ROI3 showed the lowest performance, with an AUC of 0.75 (95% CI 0.685, 0.809). Notably, the comprehensive model encompassing all identified regions (ROI total) outperformed the single-region models, achieving an AUC of 0.884 (95% CI 0.845, 0.921) in the training set and 0.816 (95% CI 0.705, 0.909) in the validation set, indicating significantly enhanced predictive capability for MCI progression to AD. CONCLUSION: Our findings underscore the Limbic system as the brain region most closely associated with the progression from MCI to AD. Importantly, our study demonstrates that a PET brain radiomics model encompassing multiple brain regions (ROI total) significantly outperforms models based on single brain regions. This comprehensive approach more accurately identifies MCI patients at high risk of progressing to AD, offering valuable insights for non-invasive diagnostics and facilitating early and timely interventions in clinical settings.

Primary failure of eruption (PFE) is a rare disorder that is characterized by the inability of a molar tooth/teeth to erupt to the occlusal plane or to normally react to orthodontic force. This condition is related to hereditary factors and has been extensively researched over many years. However, the etiological mechanisms of pathogenesis are still not fully understood. Evidence from studies on PFE cases has shown that PFE patients may carry parathyroid hormone 1 receptor (PTH1R) gene mutations, and genetic detection can be used to diagnose PFE at an early stage. PTH1R variants can lead to altered protein structure, impaired protein function, and abnormal biological activities of the cells, which may ultimately impact the behavior of teeth, as observed in PFE. Dental follicle cells play a critical role in tooth eruption and root development and are regulated by parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP)-PTH1R signaling in their differentiation and other activities. PTHrP-PTH1R signaling also regulates the activity of osteoblasts, osteoclasts and odontoclasts during tooth development and eruption. When interference occurs in the PTHrP-PTH1R signaling pathway, the normal function of dental follicles and bone remodeling are impaired. This review provides an overview of PTH1R variants and their correlation with PFE, and highlights that a disruption of PTHrP-PTH1R signaling impairs the normal process of tooth development and eruption, thus providing insight into the underlying mechanisms related to PTH1R and its role in driving PFE.

BACKGROUND: The polyamine transporter system (PTS), which renders it a promising target for tumor therapy and imaging applications, facilitates the transmembrane transport of polyamines. We reported a novel derivative of spermine labeled with gallium-68 ([68Ga]Ga-NOTA-Spermine) for the imaging of the PTS in mouse models of tumor. RESULTS: The radiochemical yield of [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-Spermine was determined to be 64-69 %, demonstrating exceptional stability and radiochemical purity (>98 %). Cellular uptake experiments revealed that A549 cells exhibited peak uptake of [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-Spermine at 90 min (15.4 % ± 0.68 %). Biodistribution analysis demonstrated significant accumulation of [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-Spermine in kidneys and liver, while exhibiting low uptake levels in muscle, brain, and bones. Furthermore, Micro-PET/CT scans conducted on A549 tumor-bearing mouse models indicated substantial uptake of [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-Spermine, with maximum tumor/muscle (T/M) ratios reaching 3.71. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-Spermine holds potential as a PET imaging agent for tumors with high levels of PTS.

BACKGROUND: Widespread exposure to phthalates may raise the probability of various diseases. However, the association of phthalate metabolites with periodontitis remains unclear. METHODS: Totally 3402 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2009 to 2014 cycles were enrolled in the cross-sectional investigation. We utilized weighted logistic regression to evaluate the association of ten phthalate metabolites with periodontitis. Restricted cubic spline analysis was applied to investigate potential nonlinear relationships. RESULTS: The weighted prevalence of periodontitis in the study was 42.37%. A one standard deviation (SD) rise in log-transformed levels of mono-2-ethyl-5-carboxypenty phthalate (MECPP), mono-n-butyl phthalate (MnBP), mono-(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (MEHHP), mono-isobutyl phthalate (MiBP), mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate (MEOHP), and mono-benzyl phthalate (MBzP) was associated with higher odds of periodontitis, with odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) of 1.08 (1.02-1.14), 1.07 (1.02-1.11), 1.10 (1.05-1.15), 1.05 (1.01-1.09), 1.09 (1.04-1.14), and 1.08 (1.03-1.13), respectively. Individuals with the highest quartile concentrations of MECPP, MnBP, MEHHP, MEOHP, and MBzP were associated with 32%, 20%, 30%, 25%, and 26% increased odds of periodontitis, respectively, compared to those with the lowest quartile. Additionally, mono-(3-carboxypropyl) phthalate (MCPP) demonstrated an interesting inverted J-shaped relationship with periodontitis. CONCLUSIONS: The findings indicate an association of certain phthalate metabolites with periodontitis among US adults.

The phosphorylated noncollagenous proteins (NCPs) play a vital role in manipulating biomineralization, while the mechanism of phosphorylation of NCPs in intrafibrillar mineralization of collagen fibril has not been completely deciphered. Poly(vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA) and sodium trimetaphosphate (STMP) as templating analogs of NCPs induce hierarchical mineralization in cooperation with indispensable sequestration analogs such as polyacrylic acid (PAA) via polymer-induced liquid-like precursor (PILP) process. Herein, STMP-Ca and PVPA-Ca complexes are proposed to achieve rapid intrafibrillar mineralization through polyelectrolyte-Ca complexes pre-precursor (PCCP) process. This strategy is further verified effectively for remineralization of demineralized dentin matrix both in vitro and in vivo. Although STMP micromolecule fails to stabilize amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) precursor, STMP-Ca complexes facilely permeate into intrafibrillar interstices and trigger phase transition of ACP to hydroxyapatite within collagen. In contrast, PVPA-stabilized ACP precursors lack liquid-like characteristic and crystallize outside collagen due to rigid conformation of PVPA macromolecule, while PVPA-Ca complexes infiltrate into partial intrafibrillar intervals under electrostatic attraction and osmotic pressure as evidenced by intuitionistic 3D stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (3D-STORM). The study not only extends the variety and size range of polyelectrolyte for PCCP process but also sheds light on the role of phosphorylation for NCPs in biomineralization.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have initially reported accompanying elevated 2-deoxy-2[18F]fluoro-D-glucose ([18F]F-FDG) inflammatory activity in the remote area and its prognostic value after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Non-invasive characterization of the accompanying inflammation in the remote myocardium may be of potency in guiding future targeted theranostics. [68Ga]Ga-Pentixafor targeting chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) on the surface of inflammatory cells is currently one of the promising inflammatory imaging agents. In this study, we sought to focus on the longitudinal evolution of [68Ga]Ga-Pentixafor activities in the remote myocardium following AMI and its association with cardiac function. METHODS: Twelve AMI rats and six Sham rats serially underwent [68Ga]Ga-Pentixafor imaging at pre-operation, and 5, 7, 14 days post-operation. Maximum and mean standard uptake value (SUV) and target-to-background ratio (TBR) were assessed to indicate the uptake intensity. Gated [18F]F-FDG imaging and immunofluorescent staining were performed to obtain cardiac function and responses of pro-inflammatory and reparative macrophages, respectively. RESULTS: The uptake of [68Ga]Ga-Pentixafor in the infarcted myocardium peaked at day 5 (all P = 0.003), retained at day 7 (all P = 0.011), and recovered at day 14 after AMI (P > 0.05), paralleling with the rise-fall pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages (P < 0.05). Correlated with the peak activity in the infarct territory, [68Ga]Ga-Pentixafor uptake in the remote myocardium on day 5 early after AMI significantly increased (AMI vs. Sham: SUVmean, SUVmax, and TBRmean: all P < 0.05), and strongly correlated with contemporaneous EDV and/or ESV (SUVmean and TBRmean: both P < 0.05). The transitory remote activity recovered as of day 7 post-AMI (AMI vs. Sham: P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Corresponding with the peaked [68Ga]Ga-Pentixafor activity in the infarcted myocardium, the activity in the remote region elevated accordingly and led to contemporaneous left ventricular remodelling early after AMI. Further studies are warranted to clarify its clinical application potential.

AIM: Atherosclerosis remains the pathological basis of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. Early and accurate identification of plauqes is crucial to improve clinical outcomes of atherosclerosis patients. Our study aims to evaluate the potential value of fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI)-04 PET/CT in identifying plaques via a preclinical rabbit model of atherosclerosis. METHODS: New Zealand white rabbits were fed high-fat diet (HFD), and randomly divided into the model group injured by the balloon, and the sham group only with incisions. Ultrasound was performed to detect plaques, and FAPI-avid was determined through Al18F-NOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT. Mean standardized uptake values (SUVmean) in lesions were compared, and biodistribution of Al18F-NOTA-FAPI-04 and target-to-background ratios (TBRs) were calculated. Histological staining was performed to display arterial plaques, and autoradiography (ARG) was employed to measure the in vitro intensity of Al18F-NOTA-FAPI-04. At last, the correlation among FAP levels, plaque area, SUVmean values and fibrous cap thickness was assessed. RESULTS: The rabbit carotid and abdominal atherosclerosis model was established. Al18F-NOTA-FAPI-04 showed a higher uptake in carotid plaques (SUVmean 1.32 ± 0.11) and abdominal plaques (SUVmean 0.73 ± 0.13) compared to corresponding controls (SUVmean 1.07 ± 0.06; 0.46 ± 0.03) (P < 0.05). Biodistribution analysis of Al18F-NOTA-FAPI-04 revealed that the bigger plaques were delineated with higher TBRs. Pathological staining showed the formation of arterial plaques, and ARG staining exhibited a higher intensity of Al18F-NOTA-FAPI-04 in the bigger plaques. Lastly, plaque area was found to be positively correlated to FAP expression and SUVmean, while FAP expression was negatively correlated to fibrous cap thickness of plaques. CONCLUSIONS: We successfully achieve molecular imaging of fibroblast activation in atherosclerotic lesions of rabbits, suggesting Al18F-NOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT may be a potentially valuable tool to identify plaques.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the value of 18F-FDG PET/CT radiomics in predicting EGFR gene mutations in non-small cell lung cancer by meta-analysis. Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and CNKI databases were searched from the earliest available date to June 30, 2023. The meta-analysis was performed using the Stata 15.0 software. The methodological quality and risk of bias of included studies were assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 and Radiomics Quality Score criteria. The possible causes of heterogeneity were analyzed by meta-regression. Results: A total of 17 studies involving 3763 non-small cell lung cancer patients were finally included. We analyzed 17 training cohorts and 10 validation cohorts independently. Within the training cohort, the application of 18F-FDG PET/CT radiomics in predicting EGFR mutations in NSCLC demonstrated a sensitivity of 0.76 (95% CI: 0.70-0.81) and a specificity of 0.78 (95% CI: 0.74-0.82), accompanied by a positive likelihood ratio of 3.5 (95% CI:3.0-4.2), a negative likelihood ratio of 0.31 (95% CI: 0.24-0.39), a diagnostic odds ratio of 11.0 (95% CI: 8.0-16.0), and an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.84 (95% CI: 0.80-0.87). In the validation cohort, the values included a sensitivity of 0.76 (95% CI: 0.67-0.83), a specificity of 0.75 (95% CI: 0.68-0.80), a positive likelihood ratio of 3.0 (95% CI:2.4-3.8), a negative likelihood ratio of 0.32 (95% CI: 0.24-0.44), a diagnostic odds ratio of 9 (95% CI: 6-15), and an AUC of 0.82 (95% CI: 0.78-0.85). The average Radiomics Quality Score (RQS) across studies was 10.47 ± 4.72. Meta-regression analysis identifies the application of deep learning and regions as sources of heterogeneity. Conclusion: 18F-FDG PET/CT radiomics may be useful in predicting mutation status of the EGFR gene in non-small cell lung cancer. BACKGROUND: The prevalence of ischemia with non-obstructive coronary artery disease (INOCA) is substantial, but its risk stratification has been suboptimal. Resting SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) could provide useful heart information including spherical indices. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of spherical indices in individuals with INOCA. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 47.2 ± 20.8 months, 49 (17.2%) patients experienced major adverse cardiac events (MACE). Compared to those without MACE, those with MACE had a higher shape index (SI) (0.60 ± 0.07 vs. 0.58 ± 0.06; P = 0.028) and a lower E2 (eccentricity index calculated by the QPS) (0.81 ± 0.05 vs. 0.83 ± 0.04; P = 0.019). MACE event-free survival analysis revealed significant differences in the SI and E2 among all patients (all log-rank P < 0.01). Multivariate Cox analysis showed abnormal SI (HR: 2.73, 95% CI 1.44-5.18, P = 0.002) and E2 (HR: 1.94, 95% CI 1.08-3.48, P = 0.026) were both independent predictors for MACE when they were put into the same model, respectively. The incorporation of the SI into the baseline model demonstrated a significant improvement in the predictive accuracy for MACEs (P = 0.026), whereas E2 did not exhibit a similar improvement (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: For patients with INOCA, spherical indices (especially the SI) were associated with long-term MACE, which could be a preferable indicator for risk stratification and prognostic prediction.

Decades of research have been conducted on 10-Methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) through numerous studies. The mechanisms by which its residual calcium salts benefit dentin bonding remain undetermined. The objective of the research was to investigate the role and process of remaining calcium salts in the priming procedure and their capacity for remineralization. The investigation focused on the variations in topological structure, mechanical properties, and chemical interactions between the main agent and the dentin surface. Two adhesive modes including prime-and-rinse(P&R) and prime-and-nonrinse (P&NR) utilized to evaluate the bonding performance and remineralization ability. The findings indicated that both P&R and P&NR methods could eliminate the smear-layer, uncover dentinal-tubules, and generate a textured/rough surface on the dentin. Collagen fibrils exhibited a greater presence of inorganic minerals in the P&NR mode. Compared to control group, both P&R and P&NR groups improved immediate and aging bond strength significantly (P < 0.05). AFM and 3D-STORM revealed MDP and its residual calcium salts distributed in collagen fibrils and expanded collagen matrix. In the P&NR group, TEM revealed that the dentin collagen matrix experienced some remineralization, and there was also mineralization within the collagen fibrils embedded in the bonding interface. Thus, MDP priming improved dentin bonding stability. Residual calcium salts of P&NR process can enhance topological structure of the collagen matrix and induce intrafibrillar mineralization.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of three antioxidants, selenium yeast capsule, vitamin E and vitamin C, alone or in combination, on the salivary glands of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) treated with iodine-131 ( 131 I). METHODS: A total of 69 postoperative DTC patients were randomly divided into three groups: vitamin E combined with vitamin C group (21 cases); selenium yeast group (23 cases); and selenium yeast combined with vitamin C group (25 cases). Salivary gland functional changes were assessed by salivary gland dynamic imaging functional parameters in the enrolled patients before and 1 month after 131 I treatment. RESULTS: Comparison of salivary gland function parameters before and after 131 I treatment in the three groups were evaluated. In the vitamin E combined with the vitamin C group, the left parotid gland excretion fraction (EF) value was significantly higher than that before treatment. In the selenium yeast group, the left parotid gland excretion part, bilateral parotid gland excretion ratio (ER), left submandibular gland maximum uptake ratio within 20 min (UR20), and the right submandibular gland ER values were significantly higher than that before treatment, while in the selenium yeast combined with vitamin C group, the bilateral parotid gland EF, bilateral submandibular gland UR20, EF, and left submandibular gland ER values were significantly higher than that before treatment (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: During high-dose 131 I treatment, vitamin E combined with vitamin C improved the excretory function of parotid glands in DTC patients; selenium supplementation had a protective effect on salivary glands; and the combination of selenium and vitamin C had a better effect.
