RESUMO

Cyclohexene cannot be polymerized via ring-opening polymerization under any conditions due to its lack of ring strain. A hypothetical polycyclohexene would therefore have a strong thermodynamic driving force to depolymerize to monomer if a metathesis catalyst were provided while otherwise having thermal and hydrolytic stability under normal conditions because of its hydrocarbon backbone. We envisioned access to this otherwise unattainable family of polymers via the alternating polymerization of a diene and an alkene. Ethyl aluminum chloride was found to promote highly alternating polymerization of butadiene and methacrylate when radically initiated at room temperature, resulting in formal polycyclohexene structures. Ultrahigh molecular weight (up to 1750 kDa) polymers can be synthesized at the decagram scale in high monomer conversions. The resulting presumably atactic copolymers exhibited semicrystallinity, leading to high toughness. In the presence of a small amount of the Grubbs catalyst, the generated polycyclohexene can be fully depolymerized at ambient temperatures into pure constituent cyclohexene. The strategy of using orthogonal chemistry for the polymerization and depolymerization processes allows access to polymer structures with subambient ceiling temperatures without using ultralow temperature synthesis or relying on the monomer-polymer equilibrium.

OBJECTIVE: This study explored the effectiveness of a newly constructed frailty index (FI) for predicting short-term and long-term mortality in patients with chronic heart failure (HF). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included inpatients aged ≥60 years diagnosed with chronic HF at a teaching hospital in western China. General data on the patients were collected from the electronic medical record system between January 1, 2017, and July 7, 2022, and death information was obtained from follow-up calls made from July 31, 2022, to August 1, 2022. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to analyze the accuracy of the FI in predicting death in patients with chronic HF. Logistic regression (during hospitalization and within 30 days after discharge) and Cox regression (within 180 days after discharge and one year after discharge) analyses were used to assess associations between frailty and mortality risk in elderly patients with chronic HF. RESULTS: A total of 432 patients with chronic HF were included in the study. The non-frail group had FI values <0.3, while the FI values in the frail group were ≥0.3. Overall, 130 patients (30.09 %) were diagnosed with frailty, 66 (15.28 %) died during hospitalization or within 30 days after discharge, 55 (12.73 %) died within 180 days after discharge, and 68 (15.74 %) died within one year after discharge. The in-hospital and 30-day mortality rates, the 180-day mortality rates, and the 1-year mortality rates were higher in frail patients than in non-frail patients (in-hospital and 30-day mortality rates, 37.69 % vs. 5.63 %, P < 0.001; within 180 days, 30.61 % vs. 8.45 %, P < 0.001; within 1 year, 34.69 % vs. 11.49 %, P < 0.001). The area under the curve (AUC) values of FI for predicting in-hospital and 30-day mortality after discharge were 0.804, with values of 0.721 for 180-day mortality after discharge and 0.720 for 1-year mortality after discharge. Logistic regression analysis with adjustment for potential confounders indicated that frail HF patients had a higher risk of death during hospitalization and within 30 days than non-frail patients (odds ratio [OR] = 4.98, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 2.46-10.09). Cox regression analysis with adjustment for potential confounders showed that frail HF patients had a higher risk of death within 180 days (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.63, 95 %CI: 1.47-4.72) and within 1 year (HR = 2.01, 95 %CI: 1.19-3.38). CONCLUSION: The results of this study showed that the new FI constructed according to the established construction rules could predict the in-hospital mortality and the risk of death within 30 days after discharge, 180 days after discharge, and 1 year after discharge in patients with chronic HF.

Although copper (Cu) is an essential microelement for plant growth and development, excess Cu results in a dramatic reduction in crop yield and quality. In the present study, we report that rice germin-like protein 8-7 (OsGLP8-7) plays a crucial role against Cu toxicity. The results showed that the transcriptional expression of the OsGLP8-7 gene was remarkably upregulated in the root and leaf by Cu treatment. The depletion of OsGLP8-7 significantly decreased the elongation of the primary root and plant height of rice under excess Cu. This hypersensitivity of osglp8-7 mutants towards excess Cu may be attributed to the weaker Cu retention in the cell wall compared with wild-type rice (Dongjin, DJ). Consistently, Cu-induced phenylpropanoid biosynthesis was compromised in osglp8-7 mutants based on RNA-Seq and qRT-PCR analysis. Furthermore, osglp8-7 mutants displayed a reduction of lignin deposition in the cell wall, and subsequently altered cell morphology. Osglp8-7 mutant lines also had higher Cu-induced O2•- and H2O2 levels than those of DJ under Cu stress. The results suggest that OsGLP8-7 participates in lignin synthesis for the acclimation to excess Cu. These findings provide a better understanding of a novel mechanism of germin-like proteins in the alleviation of heavy metal toxicity in rice.

The building sector is integral to climate change mitigation in China as well as the globe. By considering the impact of green innovation, we explore the long-term trend of carbon emissions in China's building sector until 2060, encompassing its entire life cycle. Results show that CO2 emissions of China's building sector will peak at 6.98-7.69 Bt in 2035 and maintain at 1.11 Bt in 2060 under the business-as-usual (BAU) scenario. The "3060 dual carbon goal" will only be achieved under the technological breakthrough (TB) scenario. These findings show that existing or relatively lax policies are insufficient to achieve the "3060" goal for the building sector. China should actively pursue green technological innovation throughout the building sector's life cycle, with a focus on accelerating the green and low-carbon production of key products, such as steel and cement, at the building material production stage.

Plasmid-mediated antibiotic-free fermentation holds significant industrial potential. However, the requirements for host elements and energy during plasmid inheritance often cause cell burden, leading to plasmid loss and reduced production. The stable maintenance of plasmids is primarily achieved through a complex mechanism, making it challenging to rationally design plasmid-stabilizing strains and characterize the associated genetic factors. In this study, we introduced a fluorescence-based high-throughput method and successfully screened plasmid-stabilizing strains from the genomic fragment-deletion strains of Escherichia coli MG1655 and Bacillus subtilis 168. The application of EcΔ50 in antibiotic-free fermentation increased the alanine titer 2.9 times. The enhanced plasmid stability in EcΔ50 was attributed to the coordinated deletion of genes involved in plasmid segregation and replication control, leading to improved plasmid maintenance and increased plasmid copy number. The increased plasmid stability of BsΔ44 was due to the deletion of the phage SPP1 surface receptor gene yueB, resulting in minimized sporulation, improved plasmid segregational stability and host adaptation. Antibiotic-free fermentation results showed that strain BsΔyueB exhibited a 61.99% higher acetoin titer compared to strain Bs168, reaching 3.96 g/L. When used for the fermentation of the downstream product, 2,3-butanediol, strain BsΔyueB achieved an 80.63% higher titer than Bs168, reaching 14.94 g/L using rich carbon and nitrogen feedstocks. Overall, our work provided a plasmid-stabilizing chassis for E. coli and B. subtilis, highlighting their potential for antibiotic-free fermentation of valuable products and metabolic engineering applications.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of human complex traits or diseases often implicate genetic loci that span hundreds or thousands of genetic variants, many of which have similar statistical significance. While statistical fine-mapping in individuals of European ancestry has made important discoveries, cross-population fine-mapping has the potential to improve power and resolution by capitalizing on the genomic diversity across ancestries. Here we present SuSiEx, an accurate and computationally efficient method for cross-population fine-mapping. SuSiEx integrates data from an arbitrary number of ancestries, explicitly models population-specific allele frequencies and linkage disequilibrium patterns, accounts for multiple causal variants in a genomic region and can be applied to GWAS summary statistics. We comprehensively assessed the performance of SuSiEx using simulations. We further showed that SuSiEx improves the fine-mapping of a range of quantitative traits available in both the UK Biobank and Taiwan Biobank, and improves the fine-mapping of schizophrenia-associated loci by integrating GWAS across East Asian and European ancestries.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between human gut microbiota and high-altitude hypoxia acclimatization remains highly controversial. This stems primarily from uncertainties regarding both the potential temporal changes in the microbiota under such conditions and the existence of any dominant or core bacteria that may assist in host acclimatization. RESULTS: To address these issues, and to control for variables commonly present in previous studies which significantly impact the results obtained, namely genetic background, ethnicity, lifestyle, and diet, we conducted a 108-day longitudinal study on the same cohort comprising 45 healthy Han adults who traveled from lowland Chongqing, 243 masl, to high-altitude plateau Lhasa, Xizang, 3658 masl, and back. Using shotgun metagenomic profiling, we study temporal changes in gut microbiota composition at different timepoints. The results show a significant reduction in the species and functional diversity of the gut microbiota, along with a marked increase in functional redundancy. These changes are primarily driven by the overgrowth of Blautia A, a genus that is also abundant in six independent Han cohorts with long-term duration in lower hypoxia environment in Shigatse, Xizang, at 4700 masl. Further animal experiments indicate that Blautia A-fed mice exhibit enhanced intestinal health and a better acclimatization phenotype to sustained hypoxic stress. CONCLUSIONS: Our study underscores the importance of Blautia A species in the gut microbiota's rapid response to high-altitude hypoxia and its potential role in maintaining intestinal health and aiding host adaptation to extreme environments, likely via anti-inflammation and intestinal barrier protection.

Fine-tuning the interfacial sites within heterogeneous catalysts is pivotal for unravelling the intricate structure-property relationship and optimizing their catalytic performance. Herein, a simple and versatile mixed-dimensional assembly approach is proposed to create nanocrystal-on-nanowire superstructures with precisely adjustable numbers of biphasic interfaces. This method leverages an efficient self-assembly process in which colloidal nanocrystals spontaneously organize onto Ag nanowires, driven by the solvophobic effect. Importantly, varying the ratio of the two components during assembly allows for accurate control over both the quantity and contact perimeter of biphasic interfaces. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, a series of Au-on-Ag superstructures with varying numbers of Au/Ag interfaces are constructed and employed as electrocatalysts for electrochemical CO2-to-CO conversion. Experimental results reveal a logarithmic linear relationship between catalytic activity and the number of Au/Ag interfaces per unit mass of Au-on-Ag superstructures. This work presents a straightforward approach for precise interface engineering, paving the way for systematic exploration of interface-dependent catalytic behaviors in heterogeneous catalysts.

Recycling industrial solid wastes as building materials in the construction field exhibits great environmental benefits. This study designed an eco-friendly non-sintered brick by combining multiple industrial solid wastes, including sewage sludge, fly ash, and phosphorus gypsum. The mechanical properties, microstructure, and environmental impacts of waste-based non-sintered bricks (WNBs) were investigated comprehensively. The results revealed that WNB exhibited excellent mechanical properties. In addition, steam curing could further promote the strength development of WNB. The compressive strength of WNB with 10 wt% of sewage sludge reached 13.5 MPa. Phase assemblage results indicated that the incorporation of sewage sludge promoted the generation of ettringite. Mercury intrusion porosimetry results demonstrated that the pore structure of WNB varies with the dosage of sewage sludge. Life-cycle assessment results revealed that the energy consumption and CO2 emission of WNB were 45% and 17% lower than those of traditional clay bricks. Overall, the development of WNB in this study provided insights into the co-disposal of industrial solid wastes.

The optimization of flame retardancy and thermal conductivity in epoxy resin (EP), utilized in critical applications such as mechanical components and electronics packaging, is a significant challenge. This study introduces a novel, ultrasound-assisted self-assembly technique to create a dual-functional filler consisting of carbon nanotubes and ammonium polyphosphate (CNTs@APP). This method, leveraging dynamic ligand interactions and strategic solvent selection, allows for precise control over the assembly and distribution of CNTs on APP surfaces, distinguishing it from conventional blending approaches. The integration of 7.5 wt.% CNTs@APP10 into EP nanocomposites results in substantial improvements in flame retardancy, as evidenced by a limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 31.8% and achievement of the UL-94 V-0 rating. Additionally, critical fire hazard indicators, including total heat release (THR), total smoke release (TSR), and the peak intensity of CO yield (PCOY), are significantly reduced by 45.9% to 77.5%. This method also leads to a remarkable 3.6-fold increase in char yield, demonstrating its game-changing potential over traditional blending techniques. Moreover, despite minimal CNTs addition, thermal conductivity is notably enhanced, showing a 53% increase. This study introduces a novel approach in the development of multifunctional EP nanocomposites, offering potential for wide range of applications.

We propose a novel recurrent variational network, SegMorph, to perform concurrent segmentation and motion estimation on cardiac cine magnetic resonance image (CMR) sequences. Our model establishes a recurrent latent space that captures spatiotemporal features from cine-MRI sequences for multitask inference and synthesis. The proposed model follows a recurrent variational auto-encoder framework and adopts a learnt prior from the temporal inputs. We utilise a multi-branch decoder to handle bi-ventricular segmentation and motion estimation simultaneously. In addition to the spatiotemporal features from the latent space, motion estimation enriches the supervision of sequential segmentation tasks by providing pseudo-ground truth. On the other hand, the segmentation branch helps with motion estimation by predicting deformation vector fields (DVFs) based on anatomical information. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than state-of-the-art approaches qualitatively and quantitatively for both segmentation and motion estimation tasks. We achieved an 81% average Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) and a less than 3.5 mm average Hausdorff distance on segmentation. Meanwhile, we achieved a motion estimation Dice Similarity Coefficient of over 79%, with approximately 0.14% of pixels displaying a negative Jacobian determinant in the estimated DVFs.

Cat-state qubits formed by photonic cat states have a biased noise channel, i.e., one type of error dominates over all the others. We demonstrate that such biased-noise qubits are also promising for error-tolerant simulations of the quantum Rabi model (and its varieties) by coupling a cat-state qubit to an optical cavity. Using the cat-state qubit can effectively enhance the counterrotating coupling, allowing us to explore several fascinating quantum phenomena relying on the counterrotating interaction. Moreover, another benefit from biased-noise cat qubits is that the two main error channels (frequency and amplitude mismatches) are both exponentially suppressed. Therefore, the simulation protocols are robust against parameter errors of the parametric drive that determines the projection subspace. We analyze three examples: (i) collapse and revivals of quantum states; (ii) hidden symmetry and tunneling dynamics; and (iii) pair-cat-code computation.

IMPORTANCE: Successful needle puncture of the renal collecting system is a critical but difficult procedure in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Although fluoroscopy and ultrasound are the standard imaging techniques to guide puncture during PCNL, both have known limitations. OBJECTIVE: To assess the feasibility and safety of a new navigation system for needle puncture in ultrasound-guided PCNL. DESIGN: This study employed a single-center randomized controlled trial (RCT) design to assess the feasibility and safety of a new navigation system for needle puncture in ultrasound-guided PCNL. Conducted between May 2021 and November 2021, the trial utilized computer-generated random numbers for participant allocation to control for selection bias. SETTING: The trial was executed at the *********, which serves as an academic medical center. PARTICIPANTS: All patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups, with 29 patients in each group. One group underwent PCNL procedures using the new navigation system, while the control group underwent standard ultrasound-guided PCNL procedures. Included patients had renal pelvis or caliceal calculi larger than 2.0 cm in diameter or had multiple or staghorn stones. The puncture procedure was performed with the support of real-time ultrasound imaging and visual guidance displayed on the screen. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: The primary outcome was system feasibility and puncture success rate. Secondary outcomes included puncture time, total surgical time, number of attempts, post-procedure complications, and one-year and three-year stone recurrence rates. Stone clearance was defined by postoperative CT. Descriptive statistics summarized patient demographics, stone size, and location. Independent samples t-tests analyzed puncture time and total surgical time. Chi-square or Fisher's exact tests compared stone clearance, complications, socioeconomic status, renal hydronephrosis, stone location, race, and medical history. Linear regression examined the correlation between BMI and puncture time. Significance was set at P<0.05. RESULTS: For all 58 patients undergoing PCNL, needle punctures of the renal collecting system were completed with a success rate of 100%. The average time from planning the puncture protocol to successful puncture was significantly shorter in the AcuSee guidance system group (3.12 min, range 0.2-6.88 min) compared to the standard ultrasound-guided group (7.58 min, range 5.41-10.68 min), representing a reduction of approximately 59%. The total surgical time was also shorter in the AcuSee group for patients with no and mild hydronephrosis (P<0.05). Complication rates were lower in the AcuSee group, with no major complications observed. However, 3 patients in the standard ultrasound-guided group have adverse effects after the PCNL procedure. The one-year stone recurrence rate was significantly lower in the AcuSee group (3.4%) compared to the standard group (24.1%), and the three-year recurrence rate was also lower (6.9% vs. 41.4%). Patient-specific factors such as BMI, renal morphology, and prior surgical history did not significantly affect the performance of the AcuSee system. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: We report the first clinical application of a new navigation system for needle puncture in ultrasound-guided PCNL. It has been demonstrated that it is feasible and safe compared to the standard ultrasound-guided group in percutaneous renal puncture. This technology provides intuitive and easy-to-use visual guidance, which may facilitate safe, accurate and fast needle puncture of the kidney.

Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that requires rapid assessment to reduce mortality. This study investigates the relationship between the Neutrophil-to-Monocyte/Lymphocyte Ratio (NMLR) upon ICU admission and 28-day mortality in sepsis patients. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed using clinical data from sepsis patients in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV). Multivariate logistic regression, sensitivity analyses, and Restricted Cubic Spline (RCS) models were employed to explore the relationship between ICU admission NMLR and 28-day mortality. Kaplan-Meier method and inverse probability weighting (IPW) were used to adjust for confounders and estimate survival outcomes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve evaluating the predictive value of NLMR for 28-day mortality in ICU sepsis patients. Subgroup analyses considered factors like age, sex, race, comorbidities, and disease severity. Results: In total, 8,710 patients were included. Increased NMLR was associated with higher 28-day all-cause mortality, confirmed by multiple logistic regression models. In Model 3, after adjusting for confounders, each standard deviation increase in NMLR was associated with a 1.5% increase in 28-day mortality risk. Kaplan-Meier and IPW survival analyses showed higher 28-day all-cause mortality in patients with elevated NMLR levels at ICU admission compared to those with lower levels (p < 0.0001, p = 0.031). RCS models suggested a potential non-linear relationship between NMLR and 28-day mortality. ROC curve for the NMLR model, with an AUC of 0.658 (95% CI: 0.642-0.673). Sensitivity analyses confirmed the association even after excluding patients with myocardial infarction and severe liver disease. Conclusion: Elevated NMLR at ICU admission is significantly associated with increased 28-day all-cause mortality in sepsis patients, suggesting its potential as an early prognostic indicator for risk assessment and intervention.

People differ in how well they search. What are the factors that might contribute to this variability? We tested the contribution of two cognitive abilities: visual working memory (VWM) capacity and object recognition ability. Participants completed three tasks: a difficult inefficient visual search task, where they searched for a target letter T among skewed L distractors; a VWM task, where they memorized a color array and then identified whether a probed color belonged to the previous array; and the Novel Object Memory Test (NOMT), where they learnt complex novel objects and then identified them amongst objects that closely resembled them. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses revealed that there are two latent factors that explain the shared variance among these three tasks: a factor indicative of the level of caution participants exercised during the challenging visual search task, and a factor representing their visual cognitive abilities. People who score high on the search cautiousness tend to perform a more accurate but slower search. People who score high on the visual cognitive ability factor tend to have a higher VWM capacity, a better object recognition ability, and a faster search speed. The results reflect two points: (1) Visual search tasks share components with visual working memory and object recognition tasks. (2) Search performance is influenced not only by the search display's properties but also by individual predispositions such as caution and general visual abilities. This study introduces new factors for consideration when interpreting variations in visual search behaviors.

Objective: This study aims to assess the early clinical outcomes of bipolar hemiarthroplasty for treating femoral neck fractures in elderly patients aged 75 and above using the Orthopädische Chirurgie München (OCM) approach. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of 95 elderly patients who underwent bipolar hemiarthroplasty for Garden Type III and IV femoral neck fractures between January 2020 and December 2022. The participants were categorized into two groups according to the surgical approach used: the OCM approach and the posterior-lateral approach (PLA). The average follow-up duration was 11.20 ± 2.80 months for the OCM group and 11.12 ± 2.95 months for the PLA group, with both groups ranging from 6 to 18 months. Clinical outcomes assessed included surgical duration, incision length, postoperative hospital stay, time to ambulation, hemoglobin levels, serum creatine kinase (CK) levels, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, pain (assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale, VAS), and functional recovery (evaluated through Harris hip scores). Additionally, complications such as intraoperative and postoperative fractures, deep vein thrombosis, wound infection, nerve injury, postoperative dislocation, leg length discrepancy, and Trendelenburg gait were monitored. Results: There was no significant difference in the surgical duration between the OCM and PLA groups. However, the OCM group exhibited shorter incision lengths, reduced postoperative hospital stays, and earlier ambulation times compared to the PLA group. Significantly lower intraoperative blood loss, smaller decreases in hemoglobin levels on postoperative days 1 and 3, lesser hidden blood loss, and decreased levels of CK and CRP were observed in the OCM group. Pain levels, measured by VAS scores, were lower, and Harris hip scores, indicating functional recovery, were higher at 2 and 6 weeks postoperatively in the OCM group than in the PLA group. The incidence of complications, such as periprosthetic fractures, intramuscular venous thrombosis, hip dislocations, Trendelenburg gait, and leg length discrepancies, showed no significant differences between the groups. Conclusion: The OCM approach for bipolar hemiarthroplasty in patients aged 75 and above with femoral neck fractures offers significant early clinical benefits over the traditional PLA, including faster recovery, reduced postoperative pain, and enhanced early functional recovery.

Sarcoid myositis is a rare and often debilitating extrapulmonary manifestation of sarcoidosis that can be difficult to recognize without a prior sarcoidosis diagnosis. Sarcoidosis with muscle nodules or masses as the first symptom is the least common form, occurring in approximately 0.5%-2.3% of cases. This article presents four middle-aged female patients who initially sought medical attention for a lower limb mass. Ultrasound examinations revealed consistent characteristic changes indicative of myositis. All patients underwent ultrasound-guided muscle biopsy and were diagnosed with sarcoidosis. Therefore, ultrasonography plays a pivotal role as the primary diagnostic tool for the early detection of sarcoid myositis.

Aims: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Cardiac image and mesh are two primary modalities to present the shape and structure of the heart and have been demonstrated to be efficient in CVD prediction and diagnosis. However, previous research has been generally focussed on a single modality (image or mesh), and few of them have tried to jointly consider the image and mesh representations of heart. To obtain efficient and explainable biomarkers for CVD prediction and diagnosis, it is needed to jointly consider both representations. Methods and results: We design a novel multi-channel variational auto-encoder, mesh-image variational auto-encoder, to learn joint representation of paired mesh and image. After training, the shape-aware image representation (SAIR) can be learned directly from the raw images and applied for further CVD prediction and diagnosis. We demonstrate our method on data from UK Biobank study and two other datasets via extensive experiments. In acute myocardial infarction prediction, SAIR achieves 81.43% accuracy, significantly higher than traditional biomarkers like metadata and clinical indices (left ventricle and right ventricle clinical indices of cardiac function like chamber volume, mass, and ejection fraction). Conclusion: Our mesh-image variational auto-encoder provides a novel approach for 3D cardiac mesh reconstruction from images. The extraction of SAIR is fast and without need of segmentation masks, and its focussing can be visualized in the corresponding cardiac meshes. SAIR archives better performance than traditional biomarkers and can be applied as an efficient supplement to them, which is of significant potential in CVD analysis.

This study aims to explore the impact of metabolites from three vaginal bacteria on the expression of Syndecan 1 (SDC-1). Human cervical epithelial cells (HcerEpic) were separately incubated with the cell-free supernatants of Lactobacillus crispatus (LCS group), Gardnerella vaginalis (GVS group), and Atopobium vaginalis (AVS group). LCS showed a proliferative effect on HcerEpic, with the most significant effect observed at a concentration of 30 % (P < 0.001). GVS and AVS exhibited some cytotoxicity, with significant growth inhibitory effects observed at concentrations of 30 % and 40 % (P < 0.01). Therefore, subsequent experiments were conducted using 30 % LCS, 40 % GVS, and 40 % AVS. In terms of cellular morphology, compared to the Control group, the LCS group showed more frequent fusion of cell sheets, with no obvious changes in the morphology of individual cells. In the GVS and AVS groups, some individual cells became round and smaller, with reduced protrusions and even a small amount of floating cells. The metabolic products of the three vaginal bacteria significantly upregulated the expression of IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α in HcerEpic (P < 0.05). In the GVS and AVS groups, the level of SDC-1 on the surface of HcerEpic was significantly decreased (P < 0.01), while the concentration of SDC-1 in the cell culture supernatant was significantly increased (P < 0.0001). Additionally, the level of SDC-1 mRNA was significantly downregulated (P < 0.01). In the LCS group, no significant changes were observed in SDC-1 protein and mRNA expression (P > 0.05). LCS promotes HcerEpic proliferation, without significant impact on SDC-1 expression and shedding. This provides molecular evidence for LCS as a protective factor against human papillomavirus infection in the cervix. Metabolites of GV and AV inhibit HcerEpic proliferation, induce cytokine secretion, suppress SDC-1 transcription and expression, and promote SDC-1 shedding.
