RESUMO
The summer Eurasian westerly jet is reported to become weaker and wavier, thus promoting the frequent weather extremes. However, the primary driver of the changing jet stream remains in debate, mainly due to the regionality and seasonality of the Eurasian jet. Here we report a sharp increase, by approximately 140%, in the interannual variability of the summertime East Asian jet (EAJ) since the end of twentieth century. Such interdecadal change induces considerable changes in the large-scale circulation pattern across Eurasia, and consequently weather and climate extremes including heatwaves, droughts, and Asian monsoonal rainfall regime shifts. The trigger mainly emerges from preceding February North Atlantic seesaw called Scandinavian pattern (contributing to 81.1 ± 2.9% of the enhanced EAJ variability), which harnesses the "cross-seasonal-coupled oceanic-atmospheric bridge" to exert a delayed impact on EAJ and thus aids relevant predictions five months in advance. However, projections from state-of-the-art models with prescribed anthropogenic forcing exhibit no similar circulation changes. This sheds light on that, at the interannual timescale, a substantial portion of recently increasing variability in the East Asian sector of the Eurasian westerly jet arises from unforced natural variability.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The Timosaponin Bâ ¡ (TBâ ¡) is one of the main active components of the traditional Chinese medicine Anemarrhena asphodeloides, and it is a steroidal saponin with various pharmacological activities such as anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptosis. However, its role in acute ulcerative colitis remains unexplored thus far. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aims to investigate the protective effect of TBâ ¡ against dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis in mice and elucidate its underlying mechanisms. METHODS: Wild-type (WT) and NLRP3 knockout (NLRP3-/-) mice were applied to evaluate the protective effect of TBâ ¡ in DSS-induced mice colitis. Pharmacological inhibition of NLRP3 or adenovirus-mediated NLRP3 overexpression in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM) from WT mice and colonic epithelial HCoEpiC cells was used to assess the role of TBâ ¡ in LPS + ATP-induced cell model. RNA-seq, ELISA, western blots, immunofluorescence staining, and expression analysis by qPCR were performed to examine the alterations of colonic NLRP3 expression in DSS-induced colon tissues and LPS + ATP-induced cells, respectively. RESULTS: In mice with DSS-induced ulcerative colitis, TBâ ¡ treatment attenuated clinical symptoms, repaired the intestinal mucosal barrier, reduced inflammatory infiltration, and alleviated colonic inflammation. RNA-seq analysis and protein expression levels demonstrated that TBâ ¡ could prominently inhibit NLRP3 signaling. TBâ ¡-mediated NLRP3 inhibition was associated with alleviating intestinal permeability and inflammatory response via the blockage of communication between epithelial cells and macrophages, probably in an NLRP3 inhibition mechanism. However, pharmacological inhibition of NLRP3 by MCC950 or Ad-NLRP3 mediated NLRP3 overexpression significantly impaired the TBâ ¡-mediated anti-inflammatory effect. Mechanistically, TBâ ¡-mediated NLRP3 inhibition may be partly associated with the suppression of NF-κB, a master pro-inflammatory factor for transcriptional regulation of NLRP3 expression in the priming step. Moreover, co-treatment TBâ ¡ with NF-κB inhibitor BAY11-7082 partly impaired TBâ ¡-mediated NLRP3 inhibition, and consequently affected the IL-1ß mature and secretion. Importantly, TBâ ¡-mediated amelioration was not further enhanced in NLPR3-/- mice. CONCLUSION: TBâ ¡ exerted a prominent protective effect against DSS-induced colitis via regulation of alleviation of intestinal permeability and inflammatory response via the blockage of crosstalk between epithelial cells and macrophages in an NLRP3-mediated inhibitory mechanism. These beneficial effects could make TBâ ¡ a promising drug for relieving colitis.

Due to the regional differences between the North and South Yellow Sea, and under the influence of winter winds, the relative changes in the coastal current and the Yellow Sea warm current will lead to the instability of the front, which will lead to the cross-front transport of sediment. Therefore, the study of sediment exchange between the North and South Yellow Sea has become an indispensable part of the study of the Yellow Sea environment. In this study, the current field and sediment concentration in the southern part of Chengshantou, a representative area of the Yellow Sea, were observed in winter in order to analyze the sediment exchange process between the North Yellow Sea and the South Yellow Sea in winter. The observation results show that in the southern sea area of Chengshantou, in winter, the current velocity does not change with the water depth when it exceeds 15 m, and the tides are regular semi-diurnal tides. When the water depth is less than 15 m, the current direction changes clockwise with the increase in the water depth. The turbidity increases rapidly when the wind direction is offshore and the bottom residual current is onshore, which may cause the sediment transported offshore under the action of wind and ocean current to settle under the obstruction of the Yellow Sea warm current, resulting in the rise of bottom turbidity. This also indicates that the change in residual current direction at different water depths may also lead to an increase in suspended sediment concentration. Based on this, in the estuarine area, the relative change in the current direction between the wind current and the coastal current may also be the cause of the change in the maximum turbidity zone.
RESUMO
This study investigated the influence of pH (4-10) on the treatment of water-extractable organic matter (WEOM), and the associated disinfection by-products (DBPs) formation potential (FP), during the pre-ozonation/nanofiltration treatment process. At alkaline pH (9-10), a rapid decline in water flux (> 50 %) and higher membrane rejection was observed, as a consequence of the increased electrostatic repulsion forces between the membrane surface and organic species. Parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) modeling and size exclusion chromatography (SEC) provides detailed insights into the WEOM compositional behavior at different pH levels. Ozonation at higher pH significantly reduced the apparent molecular weight (MW) of WEOM in the 4000-7000 Da range by transforming the large MW (humic-like) substances into small hydrophilic fractions. Fluorescence components C1 (humic-like) and C2 (fulvic-like) exhibited a predominant increase/decrease in concentration for all pH conditions during pre-ozonation and nanofiltration treatment process, however, the C3 (protein-like) component was found highly associated with the reversible and irreversible membrane foulants. The ratio C1/C2 provided a strong correlation with the formation of total trihalomethanes (THMs) (R2 = 0.9277) and total haloacetic acids (HAAs) (R2 = 0.5796). The formation potential of THMs increased, and HAAs decreased, with the increase of feed water pH. Ozonation markedly reduced the formation of THMs by up to 40 % at higher pH levels, but increased the formation of brominated-HAAs by shifting the formation potential of DBPs towards brominated precursors.
RESUMO
Based on the velocity and temperature data recorded by two acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) at a mooring system deployed in the northern South China Sea (SCS), this study investigates the characteristics of near-inertial waves (NIWs) induced by typhoons Bebinca, Barijat, Mangkhut and Yutu in 2018. For the dynamical response, besides the motion of near inertial frequency induced by typhoons, the motion of 2 f ([1.80-2.20] f, f is the local inertial frequency) and f D1 (a harmonic wave with a frequency equal to the sum of frequencies of NIWs and diurnal tides) frequency will also increase. For near-inertial motions, the maximum near-inertial kinetic energy (NIKE) is confined to depths above 150 m. For stronger (weaker) wind forcing, the longer (shorter) the response time of the ocean to the atmospheric forcing is, and the shorter (longer) the response time is required in relaxation stage. There are upward and downward propagating energies after the passage of typhoons, and the upward propagating energy mainly occur in the stage of the geostrophic balance adjustment. The current structure suggests that the NIWs in the vertical direction are two antisymmetric rotary vortices in a near-inertial period, which is similar to the structure of the Langmuir circulation. Besides, the horizontal near-inertial currents (NICs) are much stronger than the vertical NICs, and the stronger the NIWs are, the stronger the horizontal NICs relative to the vertical NICs are. For the temperature response, the temperature variation reflects a clear stratified vertical structure. In the forcing stage, the upper layer becomes colder, the lower layer becomes warmer, and the thickness and intensity of the thermocline decrease. In the relaxation stage, the upper layer warms and the lower layer cools, and the thickness and intensity of thermocline increase.
RESUMO
Based on the temperature data recorded by a mooring system deployed in the northern South China Sea (SCS), this study compares the traditional methods of identifying and extracting internal solitary waves (ISWs): the whole water column isotherm (WCI) method and the single isotherm (SI) method, and proposes a novel method: the temperature superposition (TS) method. Results indicate that the TS method identifies the most ISWs, followed by the WCI method, and the SI method identifies the fewest. When the ISW amplitudes are smaller than 60 m, the TS method can identify the most ISWs. When the ISW amplitudes are greater than 60 m, the number of ISWs identified by the three methods is the same. The TS method removes the internal tides, takes into account the temperature of all depth layers, and amplifies the signal of ISWs to a certain extent, so as to effectively identify ISWs.
RESUMO
An integrated interferometric fiber optic velocimetry sensor has been proposed and demonstrated at the central wavelength of 638 nm. The sensor is based on the principle of two laser-beams' interference. The light signal scattered from the particles or vapor is demodulated to measure the water surface velocity and water vapor velocity. Three velocity measurement experiments are carried out to measure the velocity, and the experimental data shows that the velocity increases linearly in the range of 4 mm·s-1 to 100 mm·s-1, with a slope of linear fitting curve of 0.99777 and the R-Square of 1.00000. The velocity calculated from frequency shift fits well with the reference velocity. The maximum average relative error in the three velocity measurements is less than 2.5%. In addition, the maximum speed of 4.398 m·s-1 is confirmed in the rotating disk calibration experiment, which expands the sensor's velocity measurement range. To solve the problem that it is difficult to directly measure the velocity of small-scale water surface flow velocity, especially from the aspect of the low velocity of air-water surface, the interferometric fiber optic sensor can be applied to the measurement of water surface velocity and wind velocity on the water surface.

In the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), speech emotion recognition technology plays an important role. Facing a small number of speech emotion data, a novel speech emotion recognition method based on feature construction and ensemble learning is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the acoustic features are extracted from the speech signal and combined to form different original feature sets. Secondly, based on Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) and Sequential Forward Selection (SFS) method, a novel feature selection method named L-SFS is proposed. And then, the softmax regression model is used to learn automatically the weights of the four single weak learners including Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and LightGBM. Lastly, based on the learned automatically weights and the weighted average probability voting strategy, an ensemble classification model named Sklex is constructed, which integrates the above four single weak learners. In conclusion, the method reflects the effectiveness of feature construction and the superiority and stability of ensemble learning, and gets good speech emotion recognition accuracy.

Public awareness of plastic pollution and its impact on the ecosystem has increased rapidly. The microplastics in raw waters and their removal during drinking water treatment is receiving growing attention, but the impact on the efficiency of ultrafiltration has not been examined previously, especially in regard to the formation potential of disinfection by-products (DBPs-FP) in effluent water. In this study, two bench-scale continuous-flow ultrafiltration systems, with and without microplastics, were operated to examine the effect of microplastics on ultrafiltration. Results showed that the microplastics not only increased microbial growth, but also affected the microbial community (e.g. families Xanthobacteraceae, Sphingomonadaceae, Leptolyngbyaceae), which can promote the production of extracellular polymeric substances and nitrogen fixation, causing rapid membrane fouling. The formation potential of THM (TCM and BDCM) and N-DBP (TCNM) species in UF permeate increased with the presence of microplastics, due to changes in water quality. Statistical analysis indicated that tyrosine-like components (C3), ammonium (NH4+-N) and tryptophan-like component (C1) can be used as indicators of the DBPs-FP. This study provides new insights into the relationship between microplastics, membrane biofouling and DBPs-FP, and the potential adverse impact of microplastics on drinking water treatment.

Membrane filtration combined with pre-coagulation has advantages in advanced wastewater treatment. As a model of a microbial polysaccharide, research on the effect of sodium alginate (SA) on alum hydrolysis has been rare; therefore, it is necessary to gain insight into the interface interaction between SA molecules and Al species, and the role SA plays during floc formation. In this study, the interaction mechanism between SA and Al species has been investigated, by evaluating the effect of SA on floc characteristics and membrane fouling during coagulation-ultrafiltration with different Al species coagulants (AlCl3 and preformed Al13). Al 2p X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed that the complexation of ligands and Al species strongly affects the reaction pathways for Al hydrolysis and the final nature of the flocs, as Al13 can be decomposed into octahedral precipitates when SA is added. The presence of SA can affect floc properties, which have important impacts on the characteristics of the cake layer and membrane fouling. Due to the bridging ability of SA, the floc strength increased by about 50% using Ala, which was much better than preformed Al13, with a percentage increase of only about 6%. Moreover, the recovery factor of HA-flocs was decreased from 96% to 43% with SA addition of 0.5â¯mg/L. It was concluded that SA can affect the characteristics of the cake layer and membrane fouling through participating in the formation of primary flocs and altering the Al hydrolysis pathway.

Combination of coagulation and ozonation was used to treat brine derived from a three-stage reverse osmosis (RO) process during coal gasification wastewater reclamation. Effects of operating parameters on the removals of total organic carbon (TOC), color and UV absorbance at 254â¯nm (A254) were investigated during coagulation and ozonation. All the removal efficiencies of TOC, A254 and color of FeCl3 coagulant are about twice those of AlCl3 coagulant at the same molar dose since almost all the molecular weight fractions of RO concentrate (ROC) could be removed effectively by FeCl3 coagulant while only the fractions of molecular weightâ¯>â¯3â¯k Da could be removed effectively by AlCl3 coagulant. The TOC removal increases with the increasing of ozone dose and reaction temperature during ozonation of ROC after coagulation pretreatment. TOC and color of ROC after pretreated by coagulation could be further removed effectively during ozonation since ozonation can significant reduce the fluorescence response of all the fractions of effluent organic matter in ROC. It is unexpectedly found that the increase of A254 is observed after ozonation, this is because the intensity of absorbance at 254â¯nm by the low molecular weight transformation products (<2â¯k Da) increases significantly with the reaction time after 30â¯min. The coagulation coupling with ozonation is efficient in the removals of both TOC and color of ROC.
