RESUMO

Borates, due to their structural chemistry diversity and exceptional performance, are premier material systems for investigating UV optical crystals. The B-O anionic groups with high polymerization (B ≥ 6) are much less in the borate-based system, which is worthy of further research. Herein, cations with different radii and proportions are introduced to borate system, and two new highly polymerized borates, LiNa2Ca8B12O24F6Cl (LNCBFC) and Li1.2Na2.8B6O11 (LNBO) were designed and synthesized successfully. LNCBFC possesses commonly isolated high-symmetry [B12O24] groups, while the structure of LNBO contains an unprecedented 1∞[B12O22] chain constructed by [B12O24] groups. Owing to the orientation of the functional motifs in the chain structure, LNBO displays an enhanced birefringence, which is about 25 × higher than that of LNCBFC and retains a short UV cutoff edge (< 200 nm). Even more significantly, a discussion of the cationic modulation of [B12O24]-based compounds and the patterns of isolated [BnO2n] motifs consisting of B-O rings was carried out by reviewing previous studies and existing borates. This work puts forward a decent structure design and property regulation strategy for highly polymerized borates.

RESUMO

Background: The overall survival rate is notably low for esophageal cancer patients with lung metastases (LM), presenting significant challenges in their treatment. Methods: Through the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program, individuals diagnosed with esophageal cancer between 2010 and 2015 were enrolled. Based on whether esophageal cancer metastasized to the lungs, we used propensity score matching (PSM) to balance correlated variables. Propensity score matching was a critical step in our study that helped to minimize the impact of possible confounders on the study results. We balanced variables related to lung metastases using the PSM method to ensure more accurate comparisons between the study and control groups. Specifically, we performed PSM in the following steps. First, we performed a univariate logistic regression analysis to screen for variables associated with lung metastasis. For each patient, we calculated their propensity scores using a logistic regression model, taking into account several factors, including gender, T-stage, N-stage, surgical history, radiotherapy history, chemotherapy history, and bone/brain/liver metastases. We used a 1:1 matching ratio based on the propensity score to ensure more balanced baseline characteristics between the study and control groups after matching. After matching, we validated the balance of baseline characteristics to ensure that the effect of confounders was minimized. We used logistic regression to identify risk variables for LM, while Cox regression was used to find independent prognostic factors. We then created nomograms and assessed their accuracy using the calibration curve, receiver operating curves (ROC), and C index. Results: In the post-PSM cohort, individuals diagnosed with LM experienced a median overall survival (OS) of 5.0 months (95% confidence interval [CI] 4.3-5.7), which was significantly lower than those without LM (P<0.001). LM has been associated to sex, T stage, N stage, surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and bone/brain/liver metastases. LM survival was affected by radiation, chemotherapy, and bone/liver metastases. The nomograms' predictive power was proved using the ROC curve, C-index, and validation curve. Conclusion: Patients with LM have a worse chance of surviving esophageal cancer. The nomograms can effectively predict the risk and prognosis of lung metastases from esophageal cancer.

RESUMO

Nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals that can expand the spectral range of laser outputs have attracted significant attention for their optoelectronic applications. The research progress from the discovery of new single crystal structures to the realization of final device applications involves many key steps and is very time consuming and challenging. Consequently, exploring efficient design strategies to shorten the research period and accelerate the rational design of novel NLO materials has become imperative to address the pressing demand for advanced materials. The recent shift in paradigm toward exploring new NLO crystals involves significant progress from extensive "trial and error" methodologies to strategic approaches. This review proposes the concept of rational structure design for nonlinear optical crystals leveraging advantageous templates. It further discusses their optical characteristics, promising applications as second-order NLO materials, and the relationship between their structure and performance, and highlights urgent issues that need to be addressed in the field of NLO crystals in the future. The review aims to provide ideas and driving impetus to encourage researchers to achieve new breakthroughs in the next generation of NLO materials.

RESUMO

Pixian broad bean paste is a renowned fermented seasoning. The fermentation of broad bean is the most important process of Pixian broad bean paste. To enhance the flavor of tank-fermented broad bean paste, salt-tolerant Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain was inoculated, resulting in an increase in total amount of volatile compounds, potentially leading to different flavor characteristics. To investigate the fermentation mechanism, monoculture simulated fermentation systems were designed. Metabolomics and transcriptomics were used to explore Bacillus amyloliquefaciens' transcriptional response to salt stress and potential aroma production mechanisms. The results highlighted different metabolite profiles under salt stress, and the crucial roles of energy metabolism, amino acid metabolism, reaction system, transportation system in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens' hypersaline stress response. This study provides a scientific basis for the industrial application of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and new insights into addressing the challenges of poor flavor quality in tank fermentation products.

RESUMO

The cosubstitution strategy often was applied to design borate optical crystal materials. Revealingly, a fluoroaluminoborate Sr2Al2.18B5.82O13F2 with Sr2Be2B2O7 (SBBO) double-layered like configuration has been rationally designed and successfully synthesized based on structural motif cosubstitution strategy via the high-temperature solution method. In Sr2Al2.18B5.82O13F2, a structural motif, the [Al2B6O14F4] unit, with edge-sharing [AlO4F2] octahedra was filled in interlamination of double-layer structure. The research indicates that Sr2Al2.18B5.82O13F2 features a short ultraviolet cutoff edge (<200 nm) and moderate birefringence (∼0.058 @ 1064 nm). As the first reported linker in the interlamination of double-layer structures, the [Al2B6O14F4] unit enlightens the synthesis and discovery of new layered structures in borates.
