RESUMO

Implementation of efficient terahertz (THz) wave control is essential for THz technology development for applications including sixth-generation communications and THz sensing. Therefore, realization of tunable THz devices with large-scale intensity modulation capabilities is highly desirable. By integrating perovskite and graphene with a metallic asymmetric metasurface, two ultrasensitive devices for dynamic THz wave manipulation through low-power optical excitation are demonstrated experimentally here. The perovskite-based hybrid metadevice offers ultrasensitive modulation with a maximum modulation depth for the transmission amplitude reaching 190.2% at the low optical pump power of 5.90 mW/cm2. Additionally, a maximum modulation depth of 227.11% is achieved in the graphene-based hybrid metadevice at a power density of 18.87 mW/cm2. This work paves the way toward design and development of ultrasensitive devices for optical modulation of THz waves.

RESUMO

Ambient light and the endogenous circadian clock play key roles in regulating Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) seedling photomorphogenesis. PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTOR 4 (PIF4) acts downstream of both light and the circadian clock to promote hypocotyl elongation. Several members of the R2R3-MYB transcription factor (TF) family, the most common type of MYB TF family in Arabidopsis, have been shown to be involved in regulating photomorphogenesis. Nonetheless, whether R2R3-MYB TFs are involved in connecting the light and clock signaling pathways during seedling photomorphogenesis remains unknown. Here, we report that MYB112, a member of the R2R3-MYB family, acts as a negative regulator of seedling photomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis. The light signal promotes the transcription and protein accumulation of MYB112. myb112 mutants exhibit short hypocotyls in both constant light and diurnal cycles. MYB112 physically interacts with PIF4 to enhance the transcription of PIF4 target genes involved in the auxin pathway, including YUCCA8 (YUC8), INDOLE-3-ACETIC ACID INDUCIBLE 19 (IAA19), and IAA29. Furthermore, MYB112 directly binds to the promoter of LUX ARRHYTHMO (LUX), the central component of clock oscillators, to repress its expression mainly in the afternoon and relieve LUX-inhibited expression of PIF4. Genetic evidence confirms that LUX acts downstream of MYB112 in regulating hypocotyl elongation. Thus, the enhanced transcript accumulation and transcriptional activation activity of PIF4 by MYB112 additively promotes the expression of auxin-related genes, thereby increasing auxin synthesis and signaling and fine-tuning hypocotyl growth under diurnal cycles.

RESUMO

Based on the extraordinary electromagnetic properties of terahertz waves, such as broadband, low energy, high permeability, and biometric fingerprint spectra, terahertz sensors show great application prospects in the biochemical field. However, the sensitivity of terahertz sensing technology is increasingly required by modern sensing demands. With the development of terahertz technology and functional materials, graphene-based terahertz metasurface sensors with the advantages of high sensitivity, fingerprint identification, nondestructive and anti-interference are gradually gaining attention. In addition to providing ideas for terahertz biosensors, these devices have attracted in-depth research and development by scientists. An overview of graphene-based terahertz metasurfaces and their applications in the detection of biochemical molecules is presented. This includes sensor mechanism research, graphene metasurface index evaluation, protein and nucleic acid sensors, and other chemical molecule sensing. A comparative analysis of graphene, nanomaterials, silicon, and metals to develop material-integrated metasurfaces. Furthermore, a brief summary of the main performance results of this class of devices is presented, along with suggestions for improvements to the existing shortcoming.

RESUMO

Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, metabolic, and respiratory diseases, and it has become an important social health problem affecting the health of the population. Obesity is affected by both genetic and environmental factors. In this study, we constructed a diet-induced obese C57BL/6J mouse model and performed deep RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) on liner-depleted RNA extracted from the liver tissues of the mice to explore the underlying mechanisms of obesity. A total of 7469 circular RNAs (circRNAs) were detected, and 21 were differentially expressed (DE) in the high-fat diet (HFD) and low-fat diet (LFD) groups. We then constructed a comprehensive circRNA-associated competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network. Bioinformatic analysis indicated that DE circRNAs associated with lipid metabolic-related pathways may act as miRNA sponges to modulate target gene expression. CircRNA1709 and circRNA4842 may serve as new candidates to regulate the expression of PTEN. This study provides systematic circRNA-associated ceRNA profiling in HFD mouse liver, and the results can aid early diagnosis and the selection of treatment targets for obesity in the future.

RESUMO

A silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)-integrated terahertz (THz) metasurface sensor was presented and applied to enhance the sensitivity of substance detection. Simulations and experiments were conducted to study the influence of AgNPs on the sensor performance. The enhancement of the local electric field excited by AgNPs can substantially strengthen the interaction between the THz waves and analytes, thereby increasing detection sensitivity. The experimental results indicate that the detection limit of the AgNPs-integrated metasurface sensor is improved by two orders of magnitude compared to that of the bare metasurface sensor without AgNPs. This study provides a convenient method to enhance the sensitivity of THz metasurface sensors.

RESUMO

Toroidal dipole resonance can significantly reduce radiation loss of materials, potentially improving sensor sensitivity. Generally, toroidal dipole response is suppressed by electric and magnetic dipoles in natural materials, making it difficult to observe experimentally. However, as 2D metamaterials, metasurfaces can weaken the electric and magnetic dipole, enhancing toroidal dipole response. Here, we propose a new graphene-integrated toroidal resonance metasurface as an ultra-sensitive chemical sensor, capable of qualitative detection of chlorothalonil in the terahertz region, down to a detection limit of 100 pg/mL. Our results demonstrate graphene-integrated toroidal resonance metasurfaces as a promising basis for ultra-sensitive, qualitative detection in chemical and biological sensing.

RESUMO

The active modulation of the Fano resonance is rare but desirable. However, recent studies mostly focused on a single modulation method and few reported the use of three photoelectric control methods. A tunable graphene DNA-like metamaterial modulator with multispectral Fano resonance is demonstrated. In experimentally fabricated metamaterials with six photoelectric joint modulation patterns, each joint shows different optoelectrical response characteristics. Ultrahigh modulation depth (MD) up to 982% was achieved at 1.5734 THz with a 1.040 A external laser pump by involving combined optoelectrical methods. These results show that the metasurface modulator is a promising platform for higher-order Fano resonance modulation and communication fields.

RESUMO

Traditional fast Fourier transform is used to extract the frequency component at the cost of losing the time domain, which is critical for metasurface biosensing. In this Letter, a more comprehensive algorithm, continuous wavelet transform (CWT), to process signals from THz time-domain spectroscopy is introduced. By comparing the metasurface-enhanced 2D time-frequency mappings (TFMs) of HaCaT and HSC3 cells, the two types of biological cells can be clearly differentiated, showing the great potential of CWT in the label-free recognition of biological cells. Also, the 2D TFMs serve as effective visualization indicators, successfully detecting the concentration of cancer cells characterized by being label free and low cost. In addition, the 2D TFMs of different metasurfaces under the same cell concentration reveal the correlation of TFMs and localized fields. Such a feature provides evidence of an interaction between biological cells and electromagnetic waves, implying the absorption of THz radiation by biological cells can be effectively controlled by properly designing split ring resonators (SRRs) of metasurfaces.

RESUMO

The phenomenon of multi-resonant Fano resonances is important for the design of biosensors and communication fields. There are very few studies reporting the multi-band Fano resonance metamaterials with more than three resonance frequencies, or the tunable optical metamaterials to control the multi-band Fano resonance characteristics. Here, we report dual control of multi-band Fano resonances with a metal-halide perovskite-integrated terahertz metasurface by lasers and an electrical field. By tuning the conductivity of the perovskite film on the metasurface, ultrasensitive optoelectronic modulation was achieved. The terahertz transmission amplitude exhibited increasing and decreasing stages. We analyzed the physical phenomena and found that capacitance effects and Fermi-level enhancement had significant roles in the optical- and electronic-modulation experiments. The resonant frequencies in the electronic modulation had broader frequency shifts and a higher and wider tunable modulation depth range. More importantly, the maximum modulation depth was as high as 197%, with a significant fluctuation in the amplitude and more unstable frequency shifts in the transmission spectra.

RESUMO

Perovskites and graphene are receiving a meteoric rise in popularity in the field of active photonics because they exhibit excellent optoelectronic properties for dynamic manipulation of light-matter interactions. However, challenges still exist, such as the instability of perovskites under ambient conditions and the low Fermi level of graphene in experiments. These shortcomings limit the scope of applications when they are used alone in advanced optical devices. However, the combination of graphene and perovskites is still a promising route for efficient control of light-matter interactions. Here, we report a dual-optoelectronic metadevice fabricated by integrating terahertz metasurfaces with a sandwich complex composed of graphene, polyimide, and perovskites for ultra-wideband and multidimensional manipulation of higher-order Fano resonances. Owing to the photogenerated carriers and electrostatic doping effect, the dual optoelectronic metadevice showed different manipulation behavior at thermal imbalance (electrostatic doping state of the system). The modulation depth of the transmission amplitude reached 200%, the total resonant frequency shift was 800 GHz, and the tunable range of the resonant frequency was 68.8%. In addition, modulation of the maximum phase reached 346°. This work will inspire a new generation of metasurface-based optical devices that combine two active materials.

RESUMO

Perceived value has a positive impact on users' social attachment in social media usage contexts and is a topic at the forefront of current research in consumer behavior. Although studies have begun to investigate the factors influencing social attachment, there is a lack of research on how perceived value affects social attachment. Therefore, this study uses privacy concern theory, to build a theoretical model with moderated and mediation roles, using Chinese Tik Tok users as data and survey sample, and applying Mplus7.0 to analyze the mediation mechanism and boundary conditions of the relationship between perceived value and social attachment through the structural equation model. In Study 1, data were collected from 600 Tik Tok users to verify the mediating role of the sense of belonging in perceived value and social attachment relationship. The users participating in the questionnaire survey were mainly from mainland China. In Study 2, two waves of data were collected from 500 Tik Tok users to verify the mediating role of the sense of belonging, and support part of the moderating role of privacy concern. However, except that the relationship between information value and social attachment is inhibited by privacy concern, the relationship between entertainment and social value and social attachment is not regulated by privacy concern. This research examines the practical effects of perceived value in the context of social media use, reveals the internal mechanism of the impact of perceived value on social attachment, and provides a reference for the innovative management and commercial practice of social media.

RESUMO

Qualitative research method was used to explore the formation and development of the attachment relationship between users and social media in the process of using social media. Based on the attachment theory, this study selected three representative social media platforms, namely, TikTok, WeChat, and MicroBlog, as theoretical samples, and this study adopted NVivo12.0 to root, theorize, and construct the original data. Research shows that users are stimulated by co-creation value to stimulate changes in their psychological needs and self-expression, leading to the formation of social attachment. Among them, user participation is a prerequisite for driving the occurrence of co-creation value, creating a continuous-use scenario for the attachment relationship between individuals and social media. Further, psychological needs and self-expression play mediating roles between co-creation of value and social attachment and promote the occurrence of personal belonging to software platforms. The findings of this research better our understandings about the mechanism of developing social attachment from continuous use of social media and offer practical implications for commercial uses of social media platforms.

RESUMO

The phenotypes and mechanisms underlying the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) induced by oleic acid (OA) are not completely understood. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to further elucidate the effects of OA on the proliferation and migration of VSMCs. Using A7r5 cells, the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) inhibitor PHA665752 and the p38 MAPK inhibitor SB203580 were utilized, and Cell Counting Kit8 (CCK8) assays, Transwell assays, flow cytometry, ELISAs, western blotting and reverse transcriptionquantitative PCR (RTqPCR) were conducted to assess the effects of OA. CCK8 assays indicated that OA promoted (at 5 and 50 µmol/l) or inhibited (at 800 µmol/l) A7r5 cell proliferation in a time and concentrationdependent manner (P<0.05). Transwell assays revealed that OA also promoted (at 50 µmol/l) or inhibited (at 800 µmol/l) A7r5 cell migration (P<0.05). Moreover, cellcycle analysis identified that 50 µmol/l OA reduced the cellular population in the G0/G1 phase and enhanced the cellular population in the S phase (P<0.05), whereas 800 µmol/l OA increased the cell number in the G0/G1 phase and decreased the cell number in the S phase (P<0.05). In addition, OA promoted (at 50 µmol/l) or inhibited (at 800 µmol/l) the expression level of HGF in A7r5 cells, as demonstrated via ELISA, western blotting and RTqPCR analyses (P<0.05). It was also found that OA promoted (at 50 µmol/l) or inhibited (at 800 µmol/l) the expression level of phosphorylated (p)p38 in A7r5 cells, as indicated by western blotting (P<0.05). Furthermore, the cell proliferation, migration and HGF expression induced by OA (50 µmol/l) were mitigated by treatment with PHA665752 (0.1 µmol/l) (P<0.05), and the cell proliferation, migration and pp38 expression induced by OA (50 µmol/l) were mitigated by SB203580 (2 µmol/l) (P<0.05). Thus, the results suggested that OA served a role in the proliferation and migration of VSMCs via HGF and the p38 MAPK pathway. Moreover, the proliferation and migration of VSMCs induced by OA was associated with increased expression levels of HGF and pp38. Taken together, OA, HGF and p38 MAPK may be potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

Social attachment can explain well the bond between users and social media, but existing research lacks measures of social attachment scales. To this end, this study takes attachment theory as the basis for scale development. On the basis of the development of multidimensional scales for adult, brand, and local attachment, it combines existing relevant studies on social attachment, selects three representative social media such as TikTok, WeChat, and MicroBlog as theoretical samples, explores the concept and structure of social attachment, and develops a social attachment scale through qualitative interviews and open-ended questionnaires. This study applied SPSS 24.0 and Mplus 7.0 to test the social attachment scale. The findings reveal that social attachment consists of three constructs: social connection, social dependence and social identity, and the scale possesses high reliability and validity. This study has developed and validated a social attachment scale in the context of social software use, realizing a quantitative study of social attachment and providing a basis for future empirical research related to social attachment.

RESUMO

Perfect state transfer of the bus topological system enables the sharing of information or excitation between nodes. Herein we report groundbreaking research on the transfer of the graphene-bridged bus topological network structure to an electromagnetic metamaterial setting, named "bus topological network metamaterials (TNMMs)." Correspondingly, the electromagnetic response imprints onto the topological excitation. We find that the bus-TNMMs display a perfect modulation of the terahertz response. The blue-shift of resonance frequency could increase to as large as 1075 GHz. The modulation sensitivity of the bus-TNMMs reaches 1027 GHz/Fermi level unit (FLU). Meanwhile, with the enhancement of modulation, the line shape of the reflection keeps underformed. Parabola, ExpDec1, and Asymptotic models are used to estimate the modulation of the resonance frequency. Besides, the bus-TNMMs system provides a fascinating platform for dynamic cloaking. By governing the Fermi level of graphene, the bus-TNMMs can decide whether it is cloaking or not in a bandwidth of 500 GHz. Also, the bus-TNMMs exhibit the immense potential for dynamically detecting the vibrational fingerprinting of an analyte. These results give a far-reaching outlook for steering dynamically the terahertz response with the bus-TNMMs. Therefore, we believe that the discovery of bus-TNMMs will revolutionize our understanding of the modulation of the electromagnetic response.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the ability of heart rate (HR) and HR difference during head-up tilt test (HUTT) and to predict clinical improvement related to metoprolol treatment in children and adolescents with postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS). STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study. A total of 53 subjects (27 male, aged 6-12 years old, mean age 11.79 ± 1.50 years old) with POTS treated with metoprolol were involved from July 2012 to September 2019. In total, 52 subjects who underwent health examination during the same period were matched as the control group. Subjects in both groups underwent HUTT. The HR distance between 5 minutes and 0 minutes (HR difference 5) and between 10 minutes and 0 minutes (HR difference 10) during HUTT was calculated. RESULTS: The POTS group was significantly greater than the control group in HR 5, HR 10, HR difference 5, and HR difference 10 (P < .01). There was no statistical difference in HR 0 between the 2 groups (P > .05). In total, 53 subjects with POTS were followed up for 96.0 (IQR, 40.5, 134.5) days during treatment with metoprolol. HUTT results demonstrated that 58.49% of subjects with POTS had a response and symptom scores were reduced after intervention. HR and HR difference were useful in predicting the efficacy of metoprolol on POTS. When HR 5, HR 10, HR difference 5, and HR difference 10, respectively, were ≥110, 112, 34, and 37 beats/min, the sensitivity and specificity were 82.50% and 69.23%, 84.62% and 69.70%, 85.29% and 89.47%, and 97.56% and 64.86%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: HR and HR difference are helpful to predict the efficacy of metoprolol on POTS in children and adolescents.

RESUMO

Position-guided Fano resonance is observed in hybrid graphene-silicon metamaterials. An outstanding application of such resonance is slow-light metadevices. The maximum group delay is 9.73 ps, which corresponds to a group delay in free-space propagation of 2.92 mm. We employ a coupled oscillator model to illustrate anomalous transmission, where the intensity of the Fano peak increases with the Fermi level. Furthermore, we amend the GaussAmp model to serve as a suitable control equation for the group delay. The coefficient of correlation (R2) is as high as 0.99998, while the lowest values of the root-mean-square error and sum of squared errors are respectively 0.00421 and 0.00156. These results indicate that the amended GaussAmp model accurately controls the trend of the group delay. This work not only clarifies the mechanism of Fano resonance generation but also provides a promising platform for dynamically adjustable optical switches and multidimensional information sensors.

RESUMO

It is vital and promising for portable and disposable biosensing devices to achieve on-site detection and analysis of cancer cells. Although traditional labeling techniques provide an accurate quantitative measurement, the complicated cell staining and high-cost measurements limit their further development. Here, we demonstrate a nonimmune biosensing technology. The plasmonic biosensors, which are based on anisotropic resonant split ring resonators in the terahertz range, successfully realize the antibody-free recognition of cancer cells. The dependences of Δf and the fitted phase slope on the cancer cell concentration at different polarizations give new perspective in hexagonal radar maps. The results indicate that the lung cancer cell A549 and liver cancer cell HepG2 can be distinguished and determined simply based on the enclosed shapes in the radar maps without any antibody introduction. The minimum concentration of identification reduces to as low as 1 × 104 cells/mL and such identification can be kept valid in a wide range of cell concentration, ranging from 104 to 105. The construction of two-dimensional extinction intensity cards of corresponding cancer cells based on the wavelet transform method also supplies corresponding information for the antibody-free recognition and determination of two cancer cells. Our plasmonic metasurface biosensors show a great potential in the determination and recognition of label-free cancer cells, being an alternative to nonimmune biosensing technology.
