Background: The demand for fertility-sparing surgery (FSS) is increasing among patients with early-stage cervical cancer (CC). This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of local excision as an alternative to hysterectomy in stage I CC patients aged 15-39 years-commonly referred to as adolescents and young adults (AYAs)-with varying clinicopathological characteristics. Methods: Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, we identified patients diagnosed between 2000 and 2020. We examined treatment interventions across different age groups, degrees of histological types, tumor differentiation, and tumor stages. The effect of local excision vs. hysterectomy was assessed by comparing overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) rates. Results: A total of 10,629 stage I AYA cervical cancer patients were included in this study. Among these patients, 24.5% underwent local excision for fertility preservation, while 67.3% underwent radical hysterectomy. For patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), long-term outcomes favored local excision over hysterectomy, and a similar trend was observed in those with adenosquamous cell carcinoma (ASCC). However, the prognosis was comparable among patients with cervical adenocarcinoma (AC). In patients with well- and moderate- differentiated tumors, local excision demonstrated superior OS compared to hysterectomy. No significant differences in prognosis were found between the two surgical interventions for patients with poorly differentiated and undifferentiated tumors. In stage IA patients, local excision was considered a viable alternative to hysterectomy. In stage IB1-IB2, FSS yielded prognostic outcomes comparable to those of hysterectomy. Conversely, patients with stage IB3 exhibited significantly shorter 5-year OS and DSS following local excision than those who underwent hysterectomy. Conclusion: In stage IA-IB2 (diameter ≤4 cm) AYA patients, local excision may serve as a viable option for fertility preservation. The histological type of SCC, AC, and ASCC, along with differentiation, should not serve as restrictive factors in determining fertility preservation strategies for these patients. Patients with early-stage, well- or moderately-differentiated SCC may benefit from local excision surgery, even when fertility preservation is not the primary objective.

The inherent toxicity and persistence of emerging contaminants such as antibiotics and endocrine disruptors pose substantial threats to the environment. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) employed for oxidative degradation could yield toxic oxidation by-products (OBPs), including organic acids and aromatic hydrocarbons. Despite their typically low concentrations, OBPs require scrutiny owing to their potential health risks. Although effective assessment methodologies are available, a comprehensive review focusing on the ecological and environmental effects of these pollutants is lacking. This study offers a succinct overview of existing ecotoxicological exposure assessments for emerging organic pollutants. Further, it encapsulates principal dose-response assessment techniques and provides a comparative analysis of several methods. The straightforward assessment factor method evaluates risk based on exposure and species sensitivity and is suitable for preliminary assessments of single pollutants; Species Sensitivity Distribution (SSD) compares species sensitivities to OBPs, emphasizing the importance of species-specific toxicological responses; microcosm and mesocosm methods simulate and predict the effects of OBPs on aquatic life by considering environmental diversity and biological community structures and are ideal for assessing the toxicity of multiple OBPs; the ecological risk analysis model employs mathematical and probabilistic approaches to comprehensively and accurately assess exposures and effects, accounting for the complexities and uncertainties inherent in ecotoxicological evaluations. Different risk characterization techniques are outlined in this study, including the risk quotient (RQ), which is ideal for quantifying and comparing risks; probabilistic ecological risk assessment (PERA), suitable for managing significant uncertainty; and the Environmental Pollution Index (EPI), the preferred method for quantitative assessment of OBP pollution levels. The merits and limitations of each of these quantitative assessment tools are evaluated, providing a comprehensive view of their applications in risk analysis. In addition, pressing contemporary challenges are identified and trajectories and pivotal issues suggested for future research.

BACKGROUND: More than 50% of colorectal cancer(CRC) patients experience cancer-related psychological burden after radical surgery, which can seriously affect their physical wellness, quality of life and even survival outcomes. Our research team developed a six-week Traditional Chinese Medicine Combined Online Group Psychotherapy (TCM-eRhab) and proved its efficacy on relieving cancer-related anxiety, depression and fear of cancer recurrence though phase I single arm clinical trial (n = 40). Large sample size randomized controlled clinical trial(RCT) is necessary to further evaluate TCM-eRhab's role on improving quality of life and survival outcomes among this population. METHODS: We design a phase II RCT study, in which 210 CRC patients who have received radical surgery (stage I-III) will be recruited. Eligible patients will be randomly assigned to TCM-eRhab group or usual care group by 2:1 ratio. Patients in the intervention group will receive the structured TCM-eRhab program for six weeks, while patients in control group will receive usual care only. The primary outcomes are quality of life, severity of anxiety, depression and fear of cancer recurrence. Cancer recurrence rate will also be calculated according to long term follow-up data. DISCUSSION: As one of the first RCTs to evaluate the impacts of TCM combined psychological therapy to improve CRC patients' quality of life after surgery, the results from this study will provide innovative knowledge and evidence on integrating TCM into CRC survivorship care and mind-body intervention model.

The flying foxes optimization (FFO) algorithm stimulated by the strategy used by flying foxes for subsistence in heat wave environments has shown good performance in the single-objective domain. Aiming to explore the effectiveness and benefits of the subsistence strategy used by flying foxes in solving optimization challenges involving multiple objectives, this research proposes a decomposition-based multi-objective flying foxes optimization algorithm (MOEA/D-FFO). It exhibits a great population management strategy, which mainly includes the following features. (1) In order to improve the exploration effectiveness of the flying fox population, a new offspring generation mechanism is introduced to improve the efficiency of exploration of peripheral space by flying fox populations. (2) A new population updating approach is proposed to adjust the neighbor matrices to the corresponding flying fox individuals using the new offspring, with the aim of enhancing the rate of convergence in the population. Through comparison experiments with classical algorithms (MOEA/D, NSGA-II, IBEA) and cutting-edge algorithms (MOEA/D-DYTS, MOEA/D-UR), MOEA/D-FFO achieves more than 11 best results. In addition, the experimental results under different population sizes show that the proposed algorithm is highly adaptable and has good application prospects in optimization problems for engineering applications.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the clinical value of serum CEA levels and their implications on the diagnostic value of the conventional TNM staging system in the oldest-old patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS: The recruited subjects were colorectal cancer patients aged 85 and older. The cutoff value for normal CEA level is 5 ng/mL. Patients with elevated CEA levels were categorized as stage C1, and those with normal CEA levels as stage C0. A number of Cox proportional hazard regression models were established to evaluate the prognosis of different prognostic factors with hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The Kaplan-Meier method was utilized to display the disparate prognostic impact of multiple clinicopathological factors with the log-rank test. RESULTS: A total of 17,359 oldest-old patients diagnosed with CRC were recruited from the SEER database. The conditional survival of oldest-old patients with CRC was dismal with a 1-year conditional survival of only 11%, 18%, and 30% for patients surviving 1, 3, and 5 years, respectively. Patients with stage C1 exhibited a 48.5% increased risk of CRC-specific mortality compared with stage C0 (HR = 1.485, 95%CI = 1.393-1.583, using stage C0 patients as the reference, P < 0.001). All the stage C0 patients indicated lower HRs relative to the corresponding stage C1 patients. CONCLUSIONS: Dismal conditional survival of oldest-old patients with CRC should be given additional consideration. C stage influences the prognosis of oldest-old patients with CRC.

The mass and volume of Rosa roxburghii fruits are essential for fruit grading and consumer selection. Physical characteristics such as dimension, projected area, mass, and volume are interrelated. Image-based mass and volume estimation facilitates the automation of fruit grading, which can replace time-consuming and laborious manual grading. In this study, image processing techniques were used to extract fruit dimensions and projected areas, and univariate (linear, quadratic, exponential, and power) and multivariate regression models were used to estimate the mass and volume of Rosa roxburghii fruits. The results showed that the quadratic model based on the criterion projected area (CPA) estimated the best mass (R2 = 0.981) with an accuracy of 99.27%, and the equation is M = 0.280 + 0.940CPA + 0.071CPA2. The multivariate regression model based on three projected areas (PA1, PA2, and PA3) estimated the best volume (R2 = 0.898) with an accuracy of 98.24%, and the equation is V = - 8.467 + 0.657PA1 + 1.294PA2 + 0.628PA3. In practical applications, cost savings can be realized by having only one camera position. Therefore, when the required accuracy is low, estimating mass and volume simultaneously from only the dimensional information of the side view or the projected area information of the top view is recommended.

Traditional cathode chemistry of Li-ion batteries relies on the transport of Li-ions within the solid structures, with the transition metal ions and anions acting as the static components. Here, we demonstrate that a solid solution of F- and PO43- facilitates the reversible conversion of a fine mixture of iron powder, LiF, and Li3PO4 into iron salts. Notably, in its fully lithiated state, we use commercial iron metal powder in this cathode, departing from electrodes that begin with iron salts, such as FeF3. Our results show that Fe-cations and anions of F- and PO43- act as charge carriers in addition to Li-ions during the conversion from iron metal to a solid solution of iron salts. This composite electrode delivers a reversible capacity of up to 368 mAh/g and a specific energy of 940 Wh/kg. Our study underscores the potential of amorphous composites comprising lithium salts as high-energy battery electrodes.

BACKGROUND: While de novo cholesterol biosynthesis plays a crucial role in chemotherapy resistance of colorectal cancer (CRC), the underlying molecular mechanism remains poorly understood. METHODS: We conducted cell proliferation assays on CRC cells with or without depletion of squalene epoxidase (SQLE), with or without 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) treatment. Additionally, a xenograft mouse model was utilized to explore the impact of SQLE on the chemosensitivity of CRC to 5-FU. RNA-sequencing analysis and immunoblotting analysis were performed to clarify the mechanism. We further explore the effect of SQLE depletion on the ubiquitin of NF-κB inhibitor alpha (IκBα) and (S)-2,3-epoxysqualene on the binding of IκBα to beta-transducin repeat containing E3 ubiquitin protein ligase (BTRC) by using immunoprecipitation assay. In addition, a cohort of 272 CRC patients were selected for our clinical analyses. RESULTS: Mechanistically, (S)-2,3-epoxysqualene promotes IκBα degradation and subsequent NF-κB activation by enhancing the interaction between BTRC and IκBα. Activated NF-κB upregulates the expression of baculoviral IAP repeat containing 3 (BIRC3), sustains tumor cell survival after 5-FU treatment and promotes 5-FU resistance of CRC in vivo. Notably, the treatment of terbinafine, an inhibitor of SQLE commonly used as antifungal drug in clinic, enhances the sensitivity of CRC to 5-FU in vivo. Additionally, the expression of SQLE is associated with the prognosis of human CRC patients with 5-FU-based chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: Thus, our finding not only demonstrates a new role of SQLE in chemoresistance of CRC, but also reveals a novel mechanism of (S)-2,3-epoxysqualene-dependent NF-κB activation, implicating the combined potential of terbinafine for 5-FU-based CRC treatment.

The immune response holds a pivotal role in cardiovascular disease development. As multifunctional cells of the innate immune system, macrophages play an essential role in initial inflammatory response that occurs following cardiovascular injury, thereby inducing subsequent damage while also facilitating recovery. Meanwhile, the diverse phenotypes and phenotypic alterations of macrophages strongly associate with distinct types and severity of cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease, valvular disease, myocarditis, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, atherosclerosis and aneurysm, which underscores the importance of investigating macrophage regulatory mechanisms within the context of specific diseases. Besides, recent strides in single-cell sequencing technologies have revealed macrophage heterogeneity, cell-cell interactions, and downstream mechanisms of therapeutic targets at a higher resolution, which brings new perspectives into macrophage-mediated mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets in cardiovascular diseases. Remarkably, myocardial fibrosis, a prevalent characteristic in most cardiac diseases, remains a formidable clinical challenge, necessitating a profound investigation into the impact of macrophages on myocardial fibrosis within the context of cardiac diseases. In this review, we systematically summarize the diverse phenotypic and functional plasticity of macrophages in regulatory mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases and unprecedented insights introduced by single-cell sequencing technologies, with a focus on different causes and characteristics of diseases, especially the relationship between inflammation and fibrosis in cardiac diseases (myocardial infarction, pressure overload, myocarditis, dilated cardiomyopathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy and cardiac aging) and the relationship between inflammation and vascular injury in vascular diseases (atherosclerosis and aneurysm). Finally, we also highlight the preclinical/clinical macrophage targeting strategies and translational implications.

OBJECTIVE: To establish the dynamic treatment strategy of Chinese medicine (CM) for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) by machine learning algorithm, in order to provide a reference for the selection of CM treatment strategies for mCRC. METHODS: From the outpatient cases of mCRC in the Department of Oncology at Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, 197 cases that met the inclusion criteria were screened. According to different CM intervention strategies, the patients were divided into 3 groups: CM treatment alone, equal emphasis on Chinese and Western medicine treatment (CM combined with local treatment of tumors, oral chemotherapy, or targeted drugs), and CM assisted Western medicine treatment (CM combined with intravenous regimen of Western medicine). The survival time of patients undergoing CM intervention was taken as the final evaluation index. Factors affecting the choice of CM intervention scheme were screened as decision variables. The dynamic CM intervention and treatment strategy for mCRC was explored based on the cost-sensitive classification learning algorithm for survival (CSCLSurv). Patients' survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and the survival time of patients who received the model-recommended treatment plan were compared with those who received actual treatment plan. RESULTS: Using the survival time of patients undergoing CM intervention as the evaluation index, a dynamic CM intervention therapy strategy for mCRC was established based on CSCLSurv. Different CM intervention strategies for mCRC can be selected according to dynamic decision variables, such as gender, age, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group score, tumor site, metastatic site, genotyping, and the stage of Western medicine treatment at the patient's first visit. The median survival time of patients who received the model-recommended treatment plan was 35 months, while those who receive the actual treatment plan was 26.0 months (P=0.06). CONCLUSIONS: The dynamic treatment strategy of CM, based on CSCLSurv for mCRC, plays a certain role in providing clinical hints in CM. It can be further improved in future prospective studies with larger sample sizes.

Lithium (Li) metal stands as a promising anode in advancing high-energy-density batteries. However, intrinsic issues associated with metallic Li, especially the dendritic growth, have hindered its practical application. Herein, we focus on molecular combined structural design to develop dendrite-free anodes. Specifically, using hydrogen-substituted graphdiyne (HGDY) aerogel hosts, we successfully fabricated a promising Li composite anode (Li@HGDY). The HGDY aerogel's lithiophilic nature and hierarchical pores drive molten Li infusion and reduce local current density within the three-dimensional HGDY host. The unique molecular structure of HGDY provides favorable bulk pathways for lithium-ion transport. By simultaneous regulation of electron and ion transport within the HGDY host, uniform lithium stripping/platting is fulfilled. Li@HGDY symmetric cells exhibit a low overpotential and stable cycling. The Li@HGDY||lithium iron phosphate full cell retained 98.1% capacity after 170 cycles at 0.4 C. This study sheds new light on designing high-capacity and long-lasting lithium metal anodes.

Brick kiln co-treatment is a novel industrial hazardous wastes (IHWs) utilization process. However, the effects of chlorine (Cl) in wastes on heavy metals (HMs) during this process are overlooked. This study investigated the stabilization/solidification (S/S) and volatilization, as well as long and short-term leaching, of HMs in Cl-containing bricks. The results indicated enhanced formations of stable mineral phases (NiFe2O4, Ni2SiO4, Cd3Al2Si3O12, CdSiO3, FeCr2O4, Cr2O3, CuFe2O4, and CuAl2O4) in bricks at a low sintering temperature (800 °C) due to the affinity between Cl and HMs. By comparing HM concentrations before and after sintering in bricks, the study observed that Cl's presence significantly elevated the volatilization rates for Cd and Cu by 30.8% and 14.2%, respectively. In contrast, the effect on volatilization for Ni and Cr was not significant. Additionally, utilizing the NEN 7375 method, the cumulative leaching rates of Ni, Cd, Cr, and Cu over a 64-day experiment under extremely acidic conditions were 0.22%, 7.18%, 0.01%, and 1.46%, respectively. Similarly, higher short-term leaching rates of Cd (4.03%) and Cu (5.73%) than those of Ni (0.94%) and Cr (0.08%) were observed. This finding might be attributed to the lower stability of the Cd and Cu solid phases under acidic environments compared to those of Ni and Cr. Surface wash-off, dissolution, and diffusion were the processes governing HM leaching from bricks. The 10-year projections revealed a minimal release of HMs during future extended leaching, implying the successful S/S of HMs. This study provides a reference for assessing the environmental impacts of brick kiln co-processing of Cl-containing IHWs.

OBJECTIVE: To identify metabolites and metabolic pathways affected in dogs with struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis compared to healthy dogs. To explore the candidate urinary biomarkers to distinguish dogs with struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis. ANIMALS: 13 dogs with calcium oxalate urolithiasis, 7 dogs with struvite urolithiasis, and 13 healthy dogs were recruited between September 2021 and January 2023. METHODS: Metabolomic profiles were analyzed from urine samples using UPLC-MS MS. According to the variable importance in the projection (> 1) and correlation coefficient (P < .05) obtained by orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis, the differential metabolites were screened. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes database was used to identify the metabolic pathways involved. RESULTS: Compared to healthy dogs, those with calcium oxalate urolithiasis exhibited distinct metabolites primarily associated with phenylalanine metabolism, nicotinic acid, and nicotinamide metabolic pathways. Conversely, dogs with struvite urolithiasis demonstrated variations in metabolites mainly linked to tryptophan metabolism and glycerophospholipid metabolic pathways. Between calcium oxalate and struvite groups, pyocyanin, glycylprolylarginine, traumatin, cysteinyl-leucine, and 8-hydroxydodecylcarnitine are candidate urinary biomarkers. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Our findings provide an in-depth analysis of metabolic perturbations associated with calcium oxalate and struvite urolithiasis in dogs. We also identified candidate urinary biomarkers distinguishing between dogs with calcium oxalate and struvite urolithiasis, which can be subsequently validated to assist in stone diagnosis and guide treatment choices.

Formaldehyde, a ubiquitous indoor air pollutant, plays a significant role in various biological processes, posing both environmental and health challenges. This comprehensive review delves into the latest advancements in electrochemical methods for detecting formaldehyde, a compound of growing concern due to its widespread use and potential health hazards. This review underscores the inherent advantages of electrochemical techniques, such as high sensitivity, selectivity, and capability for real-time analysis, making them highly effective for formaldehyde monitoring. We explore the fundamental principles, mechanisms, and diverse methodologies employed in electrochemical formaldehyde detection, highlighting the role of innovative sensing materials and electrodes. Special attention is given to recent developments in nanotechnology and sensor design, which significantly enhance the sensitivity and selectivity of these detection systems. Moreover, this review identifies current challenges and discusses future research directions. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) combined with adjuvant chemotherapy on myelosuppression for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients using network meta-analysis (NMA). METHODS: Literature searches in both international (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library) and Chinese (China Science and Technology Journal Database, Wanfang Data, China National Knowledge Infrastructure) databases for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were conducted from inception until October 10, 2022. We included RCTs of patients who received CHM combined with chemotherapy, including FOLFOX, XELOX, FOLFIRI, and other relevant regimens in the CHM treatment group. The outcomes included the incidence of myelosuppression, leukopenia, hemoglobin reduction, and thrombocytopenia. Two reviewers independently screened the databases, extracted the data, and assessed the risk of bias and credibility of evidence. RevMan 5.4.1 software and STATA 14.0 were used to perform the NMA. RESULTS: A total of 31 RCTs were included, published from 2008 to 2021 in Chinese. Among these, 2,314 participants comparing the following 9 CHMs were identified: Shengbai Recipe (SBR), Bazhen Decoction (BZD), Jianpi Jiedu Recipe (JJR), Jianpi Recipe (JR), Compound Cantharis Capsule (CCC), Zaofan Pill (ZFP), Guilu Erxian Gel (GL), Buzhong Tiaogan Decoction (BZ), and Qiamagu Capsule (QM). The results of NMA found an indirect comparison. Based on the surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA), the ZFP+ chemotherapy group had the lowest incidence of myelosuppression, with an odds ratio (OR) of 0.08 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.01, 0.76], whereas the GL+ chemotherapy group had the lowest incidence of leukopenia, hemoglobin reduction, and thrombocytopenia, with an OR of 5.25 (95% CI: 2.41, 11.43), 4.66 (95% CI: 2.23, 9.72), and 0.27 (95% CI: 0.13, 0.54), respectively. Moreover, BZD + chemotherapy could alleviate leukopenia, hemoglobin reduction, and thrombocytopenia (P<0.01). Pairwise comparison showed that there was no difference in the efficacy among the 8 CHMs+ chemotherapy group. The comparison and adjustment funnel plot indicated that small-study effect had no impact on these outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: This NMA provided evidence to support that patients with CRC benefit from receiving different combination of CHM chemotherapies. Among these, GL plus chemotherapy and BZD plus chemotherapy were the more effective for myelosuppression in patients; however, as the qualtiy of evidence is insufficient, further research is needed. BACKGROUND: Novel biomarkers are required in gastric cancer (GC) treated by immunotherapy. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection induces an immune-active tumor microenvironment, while its association with immunotherapy response is still controversial. Genes underlying EBV infection may determine the response heterogeneity of EBV + GC. Thus, we screened hub genes associated with EBV infection to predict the response to immunotherapy in GC. METHODS: Prognostic hub genes associated with EBV infection were screened using multi-omic data of GC. EBV + GC cells were established and confirmed by EBV-encoded small RNA in situ hybridization (EBER-ISH). Immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining of the hub genes was conducted in GC samples with EBER-ISH assay. Infiltrating immune cells were stained using immunofluorescence. RESULTS: CHAF1A was identified as a hub gene in EBV + GC, and its expression was an independent predictor of overall survival (OS). EBV infection up-regulated CHAF1A expression which also predicted EBV infection well. CHAF1A expression also predicted microsatellite instability (MSI) and a high tumor mutation burden (TMB). The combined score (CS) of CHAF1A expression with MSI or TMB further improved prognostic stratification. CHAF1A IHC score positively correlated with the infiltration of NK cells and macrophages M1. CHAF1A expression alone could predict the immunotherapy response, but its CS with EBV infection, MSI, TMB, or PD-L1 expression showed better effects and improved response stratification based on current biomarkers. CONCLUSIONS: CHAF1A could be a novel biomarker for immunotherapy of GC, with the potential to improve the efficacy of existing biomarkers.

Hyperspectral change detection, which provides abundant information on land cover changes in the Earth's surface, has become one of the most crucial tasks in remote sensing. Recently, deep-learning-based change detection methods have shown remarkable performance, but the acquirement of labeled data is extremely expensive and time-consuming. It is intuitive to learn changes from the scene with sufficient labeled data and adapting them into an unlabeled new scene. However, the nonnegligible domain shift between different scenes leads to inevitable performance degradation. In this article, a cycle-refined multidecision joint alignment network (CMJAN) is proposed for unsupervised domain adaptive hyperspectral change detection, which realizes progressive alignment of the data distributions between the source and target domains with cycle-refined high-confidence labeled samples. There are two key characteristics: 1) progressively mitigate the distribution discrepancy to learn domain-invariant difference feature representation and 2) update the high-confidence training samples of the target domain in a cycle manner. The benefit is that the domain shift between the source and target domains is progressively alleviated to promote change detection performance on the target domain in an unsupervised manner. Experimental results on different datasets demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve better performance than the state-of-the-art change detection methods.

Secondary aluminum ash (SAD) disposal is challenging, particularly in developing countries, and presents severe eco-environmental risks. This paper presents the treatment techniques, mechanisms, and effects of SAD at the current technical-economic level based on aluminum ash's resource utilization and environmental properties. Five recovery techniques were summarized based on aluminum's recoverability in SAD. Four traditional utilization methods were outlined as per the utilization of alumina in SAD. Three new utilization methods of SAD were summarized based on the removability (or convertibility) of aluminum nitride in SAD. The R-U-R (recoverability, utilizability, and removability) theory of SAD was formed based on several studies that helped identify the fingerprint of SAD. Furthermore, the utilization strategies of SAD, which supported the recycling of aluminum ash, were proposed. To form a perfect fingerprint database and develop various relevant techniques, future research must focus on an extensive examination of the characteristics of aluminum ash. This research will be advantageous for addressing the resource and environmental challenges of aluminum ash.
