RESUMO

The proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint is the articulating joint between the proximal and middle phalanges of the fingers. A dorsal fracture-dislocation of the PIP joint of the fingers with volar plate injuries is an uncommon injury. Few cases have been published in the literature. In this article, we report the case of a subluxation fracture of the PIP joint in a 27-year-old male patient, without pathological history, a manual worker, right-handed, diagnosed 28 days after the injury. The treatment was surgical with open reduction and fixation of the fragment of the base of P2 with osteosutures. The functional results after three months were satisfactory with good sagittal and frontal joint stability and active flexion of the PIP joint at 95° and active extension at 0°. The control radiographs confirm the consolidation of the osteochondral fragment of the base of P2. The patient returned to his usual activities without pain.

RESUMO

Introduction: Avulsion fractures of the anterior superior and inferior iliac spines are rare fractures. They are mostly observed in adolescents during sports accidents, traumatic forms are even more exceptional. Case report: Here we report a case of simultaneous and homolateral avulsion fractures of both anterior superior and anterior inferior iliac spines in a 35-year-old male adult after a motorcycle accident. Surgical treatment using an open reduction and fixation of the two spines was performed with very good functional outcomes. Surgical management of iliac spine avulsion fractures allows recovery of the subsequent level of sports activity in most cases. Conclusion: Avulsion fractures of the anterior superior and inferior iliac spines are rare fractures. Surgical management of iliac spine avulsion fractures allows recovery of the subsequent level of sports activity in most cases. Orthopedic treatment is still used for the management of this type of injury, thus comparative studies are needed to refine the criteria for surgery.

RESUMO

According to the literature, cases of neglected anterior shoulder dislocation are extremely rare, which still presents diagnostic and treatment challenges. An extensive surgical procedure is required for their treatment. This situation is still challenging, and there is currently no accepted therapeutic protocol to resolve it. We report the case of a 30-year-old patient who had a right shoulder trauma with an unnoticed antero-medial dislocation. The treatment established was an open reduction combined with the Latarjet procedure followed by good results.

RESUMO

Total knee replacement in limbs affected by poliomyelitis can be complicated by anatomical features, narrowing of the intramedullary canal, quadriceps muscle weakness, flexion contractures, and ligament laxity. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) leads to good results in returning to daily activities and overall functional improvement of these polio patients by restoring near-normal joint mobility, pain relief despite impaired quadriceps strength, and bone and soft tissue defects. Our case report is about a patient with sequelae of bilateral poliomyelitis of the limb benefiting from a hinge-type total knee prosthesis. The rotating hinge total knee prosthesis has certainly been a revolution in the surgical treatment of patients with poliomyelitis, bringing considerable functional improvement. Nevertheless, total knee replacement on poliomyelitis limbs is still a therapeutic challenge, even for the most experienced hands.

RESUMO

Posterior shoulder fracture-dislocation is a rare traumatic entity. Early diagnosis results in the adequate treatment of these lesions and prevents serious complications, such as avascular necrosis. Several therapeutic options have been proposed depending on the size of the humeral defect, duration of the dislocation, age of the patient, associated comorbidities, and functional requirements. For this kind of injury, early open anatomical reduction and stable internal fixation remain the optimum treatment option. Arthroplasty is often the last resort for active young patients, particularly in cases of avascular necrosis, humeral head complex fracture, or undiagnosed posterior shoulder dislocation. Here, we report a case of a complex posterior shoulder fracture-dislocation in a young man, which was treated surgically with open reduction and locked plate osteosynthesis using a deltopectoral approach.
