[Detection of specific antibodies to morbilliviruses, Toxoplasma, and Brucella species in eared seals in North-West of Pacific Ocean].

Presence of antibodies to morbilliviruses, Toxoplasma, and Brucella species in eared seals in North-West of Pacific Ocean was studied. Sera from 189 cubs of eared seals from different rookeries and regions. It has been shown that 10-22% of cubs living on Russian coast have antibodies to such dangerous diseases as morbillivirus infection, brucellosis, and toxoplasmosis. Antibodies to the two pathogens were detected in several animals, and brucellosis was more frequently detected associated infection. These results confirm hypothesis that all 3 pathogens are enzootic in eared seals population.

Today's achievements in health care call for a new quality in the functional-and-organizational cooperation between therapeutic-and-prophylaxis institutions (TPI). The elaborated concept of Corporate Territorial Medical Centers (CTMC) takes into account the following: needs of population in the obstetrics-and-gynecologic assistance, the shaped-up flows of patients, the available existing quantity of hospital beds, medical personnel as well as location and facilities of a TPI. A model for rendering the obstetrics-and-gynecologic assistance was worked out; it involves 6 functional medical regional institutions, providing medical aid to the rural and urban population, and 2 districts (with their centers based in the cities of Samara and Tolyatti), providing clinical aid. Presently, the model is being commissioned in the territory of the Samara region.

A method for detecting activities of mannose- and glucose-6-phosphate isomerases based on enzyme production of the substrates is described. The results obtained for several animal taxa are illustrated by photographs.

By means of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, 42 enzymes and five nonenzyme proteins presumably encoded by 62 loci were studied. The samples were taken from 72 sea otters (Enhydra lutris L.) that perished on Bering Island (Komandor Islands) in winter 1992-1993. The values of allozyme variation parameters (P0.95 = 0.339; P0.99 = = 0.371; NA = 1.40; Hob = 0.075, and Hexp = 0.099) were higher than those found earlier by the author and American investigators. These results do not confirm the association between high annual mortality of sea otters and a possible decrease in viability of the species because of a long existence under conditions of a sharp reduction in number.

The given programs made for micro-computer "Electronika BZ-21" are used for gene frequency calculations and the expected numbers of phenotypes in samples, similarity indices calculations of two and several populations proposed by Zhivotovsky, for estimation of the genetic similarity and distance by Nei as well as for mutual contingency coefficient determination. These programs permit to exclude a great number of intermediate operations, considerably speeding up the information processing.

An analysis of the genotypic structure of three subpopulations of coast chuckchies for 11 polymorphic loci is presented. 1245 individuals were surveyed in total. It is shown that, in spite of variability of phenotypes and gene frequencies in subpopulations, the genotypic structure maintains specific features. In the total sample of coast, a deviation from equilibrium was found for GPT and Gc loci. It is noted that this disequilibrium is maintained for GPT locus in some subpopulations. Such a deviation is probably due to the influence of some systematic factor.
