RESUMO

The objective of this study is to assess the effects of the mixing ratio on the methane production and digestate dewaterability of co-digestion of pig manure (P) and sludge (S). Batch experiments were carried out at five different P/S mixing ratios at mesophilic and thermophilic temperatures. Compared to sludge anaerobic digestion, co-digestion of pig manure with sludge increased methane yield 83.0%-136.5% at mesophilic temperature and 31.3%-68.0% at thermophilic temperature. The normalized capillary suction time (NCST) and total solids (TS) of sediment (centrifugal dewatering) increased when pig manure proportion of substrate increased. The NCST at thermophilic temperatures (4.87-17.58 s g-1-TSS) was higher than that at mesophilic temperatures (1.89-10.95 s g-1-TSS). However, the TS of sediment was close at thermophilic and mesophilic temperatures. The results indicated that anaerobic co-digestion of pig manure and sludge at a proper mixing ratio (P/S = 2:1) provides a good choice for energy recovery and land utilization.

RESUMO

In this work, a promising propellant binder using the energetic branched glycidyl azide polymer (B-GAP) as a matrix and the low-toxic dimer acid diisocyanate (DDI) as a curing agent was prepared, under the catalysis of dibutyl tin dilaurate. The curing kinetics considering the thermal diffusion effect and the reaction endpoint of B-GAP/DDI were investigated by the thermal analysis method and a newly proposed variance method, respectively. Moreover, the buildup of microstructures during curing and the tensile and dynamic mechanical performance of this binder were respectively explored. Results show that there exists an obvious induction period in the beginning of the curing reaction, and the autocatalytic model shows that thermal diffusion can effectively describe the curing process. Shore A hardness of sample stabilizes around 40.78 in the end of curing, and the reaction endpoint of B-GAP/DDI is in the time range of 156-168 h. There exist cross-linking, suspension, and free chains during the whole curing process, and the cross-linking density of the binder reaches approximately 4.0 × 10-4 mol·cm-3 when the curing completes. Hydrogen bonding (H-bond) is found to be a strong binder: 53.3% of the carbonyls participates in forming the H-bond. Furthermore, this binder has better mechanical performance and lower glass-transition temperature than the GAP/N100 binder.

RESUMO

Bioleaching, a technologically and economically feasible technology, is considered as the high efficiency method to improve dewaterability in sewage sludge. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of different sludge concentrations on bioleaching dewaterability and understand the mechanism of the effect of bioleaching on sludge dewaterability. Variation in pH, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), capillary suction time (CST), specific resistance to filtration (SRF) and different fractions of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) including slime EPS (S-EPS), loosely bound EPS (LB-EPS), and tightly bound EPS (TB-EPS) were determined. Different sludge concentrations (5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 g·L-1) were selected to investigate during bioleaching. Results indicated that sludge buffering capacity significantly inhibited bioleaching efficiency as sludge concentrations increased. Optimum enhancements in sludge dewaterability were observed during the 10 g·L-1 sludge concentration treatment, and reached a maximum when the pH was 2.11. The variation of different fractions of EPS revealed that the ratio of S-EPS/TB-EPS significantly affected sludge dewaterability. Principal component analysis and Pearson's correlation analysis both provided evidence that the higher TB-EPS followed by a very large reduction was positively correlated with sludge dewaterability. However, the increase of protein and DNA in S-EPS content was negatively correlated with sludge dewaterability.

RESUMO

Cysteine has a great effect on the physiological and pathological processes, which could bring out various diseases such as skin lesions, edema, hair depigmentation, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and liver damage due to the abnormal concentrations of cysteine. Therefore, it is of great impoatance to develop a method for imaging Cys. Herein, a novel fluorescent probe was developed for imaging Cys in vivo specially. This turn-on probe exhibited favorable advantages including large Stokes shift (90 nm), fast response (10 min), good selectivity, low cytotoxicity and so on. Furthermore, the probe could be applied to monitoring cysteine in living HeLa cells, which indicates that this turn-on probe could penetrate viable cell membranes and image Cys over other analystes especially HCy and GSH.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Portable ultrasound is a modality of medical ultrasonography that utilizes small and light devices, and is an established diagnostic method used in clinical settings such as Cardiology, Vascular Surgery, Radiology, Endocrinology, Pediatric and Obstetric & Gynecology. PRESENTATION OF CASES: We present a case report of 86-years old patient who underwent surgical rib fixation for multiple rib fractures followed by falling from standing height and our management experience. DISCUSSION: The use of portable ultrasound device in operation theatre demonstrates several advantages. We believe that Portable color doppler ultrasound system would be necessary in the management of rib fracture. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that the portable ultrasound system is a valuable method of imaging in the assessment of rib fractures, and which can save time, economically affordable for many patients, and allow surgeons to make a minor incision in order to avoid complications such as infection, particularly in this group of vulnerable patients.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the therapeutic effect of warming needle moxibustion on prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc. METHODS: Seventy-eight cases were randomly divided into a test group and a control group, 39 cases in each group. The control group were treated with acupuncture at Shenshu (BIL 23), Mingmen (GV 4), Yaoyangguan (GV 3) and Weizhong (BL, 40), etc. , and the test group with acupuncture at the same acupoints as in the control group plus warming needle moxibustion at Mingmen (GV 4), Yaoyangguan (GV 3) and Weizhong (BL 40). RESULTS: The total effective rate of 94.9% in the test group was significantly better than 71.8% in the control group (P < 0.01). The incidence rate of needling sensation propagating along the channel (84.6%) in the test group was significantly higher than 56.4% in the control group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The warming needle moxibustion stimulating the needling sensation propagating along the channel has a better therapeutic effect on prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.
