Completely abstaining from cigarette smoking or fully switching to e-cigarette (EC) use may be beneficial for reducing the global burden of smoking-related diseases. This study aimed to identify and compare the top 10 prospective predictors of smokers switching away from smoking in the United States. Data from adult exclusive cigarette smokers at Wave 4 of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) study, who were followed up at Wave 6, were analysed. An Xgboost-based machine learning (ML) approach with a nested cross-validation scheme was utilised to develop a multiclass predictive model to classify smokers' behavioural changes from W4 to W6, including smoking cessation, full and partial switching to EC, and cigarette non-switching. The SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) algorithm was deployed to interpret the top 10 predictors of each switching behaviour. A total of 396 variables were selected to generate the four-class prediction model, which demonstrated a micro- and macro-average area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (ROC-AUC) of 0.91 and 0.81, respectively. The top three predictors of smoking cessation were prior regular EC use, age, and household rules about non-combusted tobacco. For full switching to EC use, the leading predictors were age, type of living space, and frequency of social media visits. For partial switching to EC use, the key predictors were daily cigarette consumption, the time from waking up to smoking the first cigarette, and living with tobacco users. ML is a promising technique for providing comprehensive insights into predicting smokers' behavioural changes. Public health interventions aimed at helping adults switch away from smoking should consider the predictors identified in this study.

Developing high-quality perovskite wafers is essential for integrating perovskite technology throughout the chip industry chain. In this article, a spontaneous cooling strategy with a hot-pressing technique is presented to develop high-purity, wafer-scale, pinhole-free perovskite wafers with a reflective surface. This method can be extended to a variety of perovskite wafers, including organic-inorganic, 2D, and lead-free perovskites. Besides, the size of the wafer with diameters of 10, 15, and 20 mm can be tailored by changing the mold. Furthermore, the mechanism of spontaneous cooling for improving the quality of perovskite wafers is revealed. Finally, the high-quality lead-free Cs3Cu2I5 perovskite wafers demonstrate excellent X-ray detection performances with a high sensitivity of 3433.6 µC Gyair -1 cm-2 and a low detection limit of 33.17 nGyair s-1. Moreover, the Cs3Cu2I5 wafers exhibit outstanding environmental and operational stability even without encapsulation. These research presents a spontaneous cooling strategy to achieve wafer-scale, high-quality perovskites with mirror-like surfaces for X-ray detection, paving the way for integrating perovskites into electronic and optoelectronic devices and promoting the practical application of perovskite X-ray detectors.

Recombinant oncolytic adenovirus offers a novel and promising cancer treatment approach, but its standalone efficacy remains limited. This study investigates a combination treatment strategy by co-administering recombinant oncolytic Adv-loaded silk hydrogel with a PD-L1 inhibitor for patients with bladder cancer to enhance treatment outcomes. Bladder cancer tissues from mice were collected and subjected to single-cell sequencing, identifying CRB3 as a key gene in malignant cells. Differential expression and functional enrichment analyses were performed, validating CRB3's inhibitory role through in vitro experiments showing suppression of bladder cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Recombinant oncolytic adenoviruses encoding CRB3 and GM-CSF were constructed and encapsulated in silk hydrogel to enhance drug loading and release efficiency. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the nano-composite hydrogel significantly inhibited tumor growth and increased immune infiltration in tumor tissues. Co-administration of adenovirus silk hydrogel (Adv-CRB3@gel) with a PD-L1 inhibitor significantly enhanced T-cell infiltration and tumor killing. The combination of recombinant oncolytic Adv-loaded nano-composite hydrogel encoding CRB3 and GM-CSF with a PD-L1 inhibitor improves bladder cancer treatment outcomes by effectively recruiting T cells, providing a novel therapeutic strategy.

Activities such as childbirth and breastfeeding can cause severe oxidative stress and inflammatory damage to the mother during early lactation, and can affect animal milk production, and the growth and development of offspring. Trehalose alleviates damage to the body by endowing it with stress resistance. In this study, we used trehalose combined with Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium longum, Bacillus subtilis, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to explore whether dietary intervention can alleviate oxidative stress and inflammatory damage in early lactation and to evaluate the growth ability, acid production ability, antioxidant ability, non-specific adhesion ability, antibacterial ability, and other parameters to determine the optimal combinations and proportions. The results showed that the synbiotics composed of 2.5% trehalose and 1 × 107 cfu/g of Bifidobacterium longum could regulate the gut microbiota, and promote mammary gland development in dams by reducing progesterone (PROG) content in the blood, increasing prolactin (PRL) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) content, enhancing their antioxidant and immune abilities, and effectively increasing the weight and lactation of early lactating dams. In addition, it can also affect the growth of offspring and the development of the intestinal barrier. These results indicate that trehalose synbiotics have great potential in alleviating oxidative stress and inflammatory damage in early lactation.

BACKGROUND: Frailty often requires intensive care, and the admission outcomes of frail patients are often poor. However, owing to the lack of reliable diagnostic indicators, quickly identifying frailty is challenging. The present study aimed to explore the associations of the platelet/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (PHR; a novel inflammatory indicator) with frailty and all-cause mortality. METHODS: The present study analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2018. Frailty was assessed on the basis of the 49-item Frailty Index. The associations of the PHR with frailty and long-term survival prognosis were explored through weighted logistic regression, weighted restricted cubic spline (RCS), and weighted Cox regression, with adjustments for demographic factors, lifestyle, blood lipids, medication history, and complications. In addition, subgroup and interaction analyses were conducted. Finally, several sensitivity analyses were performed. RESULTS: A total of 15,615 adult participants were included, with 7,928 women (53.63%) and an average age of 60.76 years. After fully adjusting for confounding variables, the prevalence of frailty in the highest PHR quartile group of was significantly greater than that in the lowest quartile group (OR: 1.23, 95% CI: 1.04-1.47; P = 0.02). The RCS showed that the inflection point was 166.7. Before and after the inflection point, the PHR was negatively associated (OR: 0.88, 95% CI: 0.80-0.97, P = 0.01) and positively associated (OR: 1.10, 95% CI: 1.02-1.19, P = 0.01) with frailty, respectively. Subgroup analysis suggested that the association between PHR and frailty was stronger in women than in men. A total of 5,544 frail participants were included in the survival analysis. The RCS revealed that the PHR was associated with the all-cause mortality risk of frail participants in a U-shaped manner, with an inflection point of 240.4. Before and after the inflection point, the PHR decreased (HR: 0.89, 95% CI: 0.81-0.97, P = 0.01) and the all-cause mortality risk increased (HR: 1.08, 95% CI: 1.02-1.14, P = 0.01), respectively. CONCLUSION: The present study suggests that there is a J-shaped association between PHR and frailty in the adult population of the United States and that the association between the PHR and frailty is stronger in women. In addition, the PHR has a U-shaped relationship with the all-cause mortality risk of frail patients.

This study analyzed adverse drug events (ADEs) associated with basiliximab, sourced from the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database, spanning the first quarter of 2004 to the fourth quarter of 2023. We collected ADE data for basiliximab from 2004 Q1 to 2023 Q4. After standardization, we employed several signal quantification methods for analysis, such as the Reporting Odds Ratio (ROR), Proportional Reporting Ratio (PRR), Bayesian Confidence Propensity for Neural Networks (BCPNN), and empirical bayes geometric mean (EBGM). In this analysis of 1520 ADEs reports citing basiliximab as the primary suspect, we identified 295 preferred terms across 24 system organ classifications (SOCs). The 3 most prevalent SOCs were investigated (nâ =â 1403, ROR 2.84, PRR 2.54, IC 1.34, EBGM 2.54), infections and infestations (nâ =â 1198, ROR 2.85, PRR 2.59, IC 1.37, EBGM 2.59), and renal and urinary disorders (nâ =â 903, ROR 6.01, PRR 5.48, IC 2.45, EBGM 5.47). Increased blood creatinine and pyrexia were the most frequently reported adverse events (AEs) associated with basiliximab, and cytomegalovirus infection also demonstrated significant signal intensity. Notably, this study revealed some adverse reactions beyond basiliximab drug instructions, such as mitral valve calcification, diastolic dysfunction, pelvic fluid collection, testicular swelling, soft tissue necrosis, and muscle necrosis. Although basiliximab offers therapeutic benefits, it carries the risk of several adverse reactions. Clinicians should monitor patients for signs of increased serum creatinine level, fever, cytomegalovirus infection, anaphylactic shock, mitral valve calcification, diastolic dysfunction, pelvic fluid collection, testicular swelling, soft tissue necrosis, muscle necrosis, and other events during clinical use.

Debris flows are a prevalent mountain hazard that poses severe risks to human life and property. Debris-flow hazard assessments at the regional scale are vital for risk management, which establish spatial associations between debris flows and their influencing factors based on specific evaluation units. Different spatial scales of evaluation units can influence the spatial attributes and associations obtained by statistics, and further affect the accuracy of hazard assessments. However, there is limited consensus regarding the optimal spatial scale of evaluation units for debris-flow hazard assessment. To address this issue, six different scales of grid cells and forty influencing factors related to topography, material sources, hydrology, and human activities are analyzed by the geographical detector model to assess the debris-flow hazards in the Dadu River basin, China. The results reveal that over 92 % of debris-flow points fall within hazardous zones across all spatial scales, confirming the effectiveness of the assessment model. Topography, particularly local gully topography, dominates the debris-flow occurrence in the study area, while human activities also significantly contribute. As the spatial scale of evaluation units increases, the explanatory power of the influencing factors improves, with the 90 % quantile ranging from 0.23 to 0.46. This result suggests that larger spatial scales weaken the spatial characteristics of the factors. The finer and more informative the factors are, the more sensitive to spatial scale effects. The 10 km × 10 km is identified as the optimal spatial scale, which effectively preserves the local spatial characteristics while avoiding information loss or overload. These findings provide valuable insights for enhancing the accuracy of hazard assessments and improving the efficiency of risk management.

The inevitable UV aging of microplastics (MPs) is one of the key factors affecting their interaction with antibiotics. In this study, polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) MPs were aged with UV irradiation. The adsorption isotherms and kinetics of ciprofloxacin (CIP) to virgin and aged MPs were investigated through various models, and the effects of pH on the adsorption amount were explored. Characterization revealed that the surfaces of aged MPs became rougher, and the hydrophilicity increased. These aged MPs were still in the early stage of aging on the basis of their carbonyl index (CI) (<0.2) and O/C (<0.04) values. The adsorption isotherms indicated that the adsorption mechanism of aged PE was different from that of virgin PE. Compared with virgin PE, the adsorption amount of aged PE increased by 87.80-95.45%, and the adsorption rate decreased by 65.52-80.74%. However, aging did not significantly affect the equilibrium adsorption amount or adsorption rate of aged PS. The external diffusion rate (Kext) (about 2.29-0.36â h-1) was almost 30 times greater than the internal diffusion rate (Kint) in the film-pore mass transfer (FPMT) model, indicating that CIP adsorption rate was dominated by external diffusion. A hydrated functional zone is thought to form around aged MPs, thus changing the adsorption mechanism and adsorption amount of aged PE. Therefore, more attention should be given to alterations in the hydrated functional zone in the early stage of MPs aging.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) continues to be a global challenge for swine health. Yim-Im et al. 2023 provides a standard genetic nomenclature, extending previously published works to better characterize PRRSV-2 ORF5-based genetic lineages on a global scale. To facilitate the use of this nomenclature, scaffold sequences, including historical and contemporary vaccines, were synthesized into a dataset designed for Nextclade v3.0. Metadata from the scaffold sequences representing year, country, and RFLP typing of the sequence were incorporated into the dataset. These scaffold sequences were processed through the Augur pipeline using DQ478308.1 as a reference strain for rooting and comparison. The resultant classifier can be accessed through the Nextclade website (https://clades.nextstrain.org/) or a link on the PRRSView homepage (https://prrsv.vdl.iastate.edu/). The resultant classifier functions the same as other classifiers hosted by the Nextclade core group and can provide phylogenetic-based PRRSV-2 ORF5 classifications on demand. Nextclade provides additional sequence metrics such as classification quality and notable mutations relative to the reference. The submitted sequences are grafted to the reference tree using phylogenetic placement, allowing for comparison to nearby sequences of reference viruses and vaccine strains. Additional comparisons between sequences can be made with metadata incorporated in the dataset. Although Nextclade is hosted as a webtool, the sequences are not uploaded to a server, and all analysis stay strictly confidential to the user. This work provides a standardized, trivial workflow facilitated by Nextclade to rapidly assign lineage classifications to PRRSV-2, identify mutations of interest, and compare contemporary strains to relevant vaccines.

Rice cultivation under flooded conditions usually leads to a high accumulation of arsenic (As) in grains. Sulphur and iron played vital roles in affecting the bioavailability of As in the soil-rice system. Herein, using pot experiments, we investigated the effects of persulphate (PS) and ferrous (Fe2+) on the transfer and accumulation of As in the soil-rice system under flooded conditions. The concentration of As and Fe in soil porewater declined with continuous flooding. Persulphate/ferrous addition significantly inhibited the formation of iron plaque and the transfer of As to the aboveground tissues of rice. The total As, dimethylarsinicacid (DMA), As (III), and As (V) in grains significantly decreased by 49â¼75%, 60â¼89%, 20â¼24%, and 35â¼36%, respectively, by persulphate/ferrous application. Furthermore, a decrease of As in husk, leaf, and, stem was also found in persulphate and ferrous treatment. To some degree, the Fe2+ can facilitate the decreased efficiency of As accumulation and translocation in rice tissue. The present study's results demonstrated that applying persulphate/Fe2+ could effectively alleviate the excessive accumulation of As in rice grains in the soil-rice system under flooding conditions.

Co-free Ni-rich layered oxides are considered a promising cathode material for next-generation Li-ion batteries due to their cost-effectiveness and high capacity. However, they still suffer from the practical challenges of low discharge capacity and poor rate capability due to the hysteresis of Li-ion diffusion kinetics. Herein, based on the regulation of the lattice magnetic frustration, the Li/Ni intermixing defects as the primary origin of kinetic hysteresis are radically addressed via the doping of the nonmagnetic Si element. Meanwhile, by adopting gradient penetration doping, a robust Si-O surface structure with reversible lattice oxygen evolution and low lattice strain is constructed on Co-free Ni-rich cathodes to suppress the formation of surface dense barrier layer. With the remarkably enhanced Li-ion diffusion kinetics in atomic and electrode particle scales, the as-obtained cathodes (LiNixMn1-xSi0.01O2, 0.6≤x≤0.9) achieve superior performance in discharge capacity, rate capability, and durability. This work highlights the coupling effect of magnetic structure and interfacial chemicals on Li-ion transport properties, and the concept will inspire more researchers to conduct an intensive study.

INTRODUCTION: New generation tobacco products (NGPs) hold promises as modified-risk alternatives to conventional cigarettes (CCs), given their comparable characteristics. This study investigated the nicotine pharmacokinetics (PK) of NGPs, encompassing closed pod systems, refillable e-cigarettes (ECs), and heated tobacco products (HTPs), in comparison to CCs through systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted on PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for articles published between January 2013 and July 2023. Maximum nicotine concentration (Cmax), time to the peak concentration (Tmax), and total nicotine exposure (area under the concentration-time curve, AUC) were extracted to evaluate nicotine delivery PK. Random effects meta-analyses were performed to determine pooled standardized mean differences (SMD), facilitating a comparison of PK profiles between NGPs and CCs. Subgroup analyses exploring flavors and nicotine concentrations across NGPs, and CCs were also conducted. RESULTS: The meta-analysis incorporated 30 articles with 2728 participants. Cmax and AUC were significantly lower for NGPs, while Tmax demonstrated statistical similarity compared to CCs. Among three NGPs, Cmax and AUC were lower for closed pod systems and refillable ECs. In HTPs, Cmax was statistically similar while AUC was lower compared to CCs. Tmax was statistically similar in closed pod systems and HTPs compared to that of CCs. No significant difference was observed in the comparisons of PK between each type of NGPs versus CCs. CONCLUSIONS: NGPs delivered less nicotine than CCs but reached Cmax over a similar timeframe, indicating that NGPs may serve as modified-risk alternatives with lower nicotine delivery to CCs for craving relief and smoking cessation. IMPLICATION: This study suggested that NGPs, such as the closed pod systems, the refillable ECs, and the HTPs, delivered either lower or comparable nicotine levels and achieved peak nicotine concentration at a similar rate as CCs. Our findings carry implications that NGPs can serve as modified-risk nicotine alternative to CCs in helping smokers to manage cravings and potentially quit smoking, thereby highlighting their value in the field of tobacco harm reduction.

Introduction: The enteric microbiome and its possible modulation to improve feed conversion or vaccine efficacy is gaining more attention in pigs. Weaning pigs from their dam, along with many routine procedures, is stressful. A better understanding of the impact of this process on the microbiome may be important for improving pig production. The objective of this study was to develop a weaner pig cannulation model, thus allowing ileum content collection from the same pig over time for 16S rRNA sequencing under different porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infection statuses. Methods: A total of 15 3-week-old pigs underwent abdominal surgery and were fitted with an ileum cannula, with ileum contents collected over time. In this pilot study, treatment groups included a NEG-CONTROL group (no vaccination, no PRRSV challenge), a POS-CONTROL group (no vaccination, challenged with PRRSV), a VAC-PRRSV group (vaccinated, challenged with PRRSV), a VAC-PRO-PRRSV group (vaccinated, supplemented with a probiotic, challenged with PRRSV), and a VAC-ANTI-PRRSV group (vaccinated, administered an antibiotic, challenged with PRRSV). We assessed the microbiome over time and measured anti-PRRSV serum antibodies, PRRSV load in serum and nasal samples, and the severity of lung lesions. Results: Vaccination was protective against PRRSV challenge, irrespective of other treatments. All vaccinated pigs mounted an immune response to PRRSV within 1 week after vaccination. A discernible impact of treatment on the diversity, structure, and taxonomic abundance of the enteric microbiome among the groups was not observed. Instead, significant influences on the ileum microbiome were observed in relation to time and treatment. Discussion: The cannulation model described in this pilot study has the potential to be useful in studying the impact of weaning, vaccination, disease challenge, and antimicrobial administration on the enteric microbiome and its impact on pig health and production. Remarkably, despite the cannulation procedures, all vaccinated pigs exhibited robust immune responses and remained protected against PRRSV challenge, as evidenced by the development of anti-PRRSV serum antibodies and viral shedding data.

A diagnostic investigation into an outbreak of fatal respiratory disease among young goats in Iowa, USA revealed bronchitis lesions of unknown etiology and secondary bacterial bronchopneumonia. Hypothesis-free metagenomics identified a previously unreported picornavirus (USA/IA26017/2023), and further phylogenetic analysis classified USA/IA26017/2023 as an aphthovirus related to bovine rhinitis B virus. Viral nucleic acid was localized to lesions of bronchitis using in situ hybridization. This marks the first report of a picornavirus putatively causing respiratory disease in goats and highlights the potential for cross-species transmission of aphthoviruses.

In March 2024, the emergence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A (H5N1) infections in dairy cattle was detected in the United Sates for the first time. We genetically characterize HPAI viruses from dairy cattle showing an abrupt drop in milk production, as well as from two cats, six wild birds, and one skunk. They share nearly identical genome sequences, forming a new genotype B3.13 within the 2.3.4.4b clade. B3.13 viruses underwent two reassortment events since 2023 and exhibit critical mutations in HA, M1, and NS genes but lack critical mutations in PB2 and PB1 genes, which enhance virulence or adaptation to mammals. The PB2 E627 K mutation in a human case associated with cattle underscores the potential for rapid evolution post infection, highlighting the need for continued surveillance to monitor public health threats.

Heavy metal pollution can have adverse impacts on microorganisms, plants and even human health. To date, the impact of heavy metals on bacteria in farmland has yielded poor attention, and there is a paucity of knowledge on the impact of land type on bacteria in mining area with heavy metal pollution. Around a metal-contaminated mining area, two soil depths in three types of farmlands were selected to explore the composition and function of bacteria and their correlations with the types and contents of heavy metals. The compositions and functions of bacterial communities at the three different agricultural sites were disparate to a certain extent. Some metabolic functions of bacterial community in the paddy field were up-regulated compared with those at other site. These results observed around mining area were different from those previously reported in conventional farmlands. In addition, bacterial community composition in the top soils was relatively complex, while in the deep soils it became more unitary and extracellular functional genes got enriched. Meanwhile, heavy metal pollution may stimulate the enrichment of certain bacteria to protect plants from damage. This finding may aid in understanding the indirect effect of metal contamination on plants and thus putting forward feasible strategies for the remediation of metal-contaminated sites. MAIN FINDINGS OF THE WORK: This was the first study to comprehensively explore the influence of heavy metal pollution on the soil bacterial communities and metabolic potentials in different agricultural land types and soil depths around a mining area.

BACKGROUND: Despite its widespread adoption in cardiovascular research, the application of LE8 in other health conditions, particularly urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) and nocturia, has not been thoroughly investigated. Our study used the Life's Essential 8 (LE8) score to evaluate the relationship between cardiovascular health (CVH) and urge urinary incontinence and nocturia in adults. METHODS: This analysis utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2011-2018. We used the LE8 score as the independent variable, and UUI and nocturia as the dependent variables. Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to explore the association between the LE8 score and the occurrence of UUI and nocturia. RESULTS: The study included 12,566 adults aged 20 and older. After adjusting for potential confounders, a higher LE8 score was inversely associated with the risk of UUI (OR = 0.38; 95% CI: 0.27-0.52, p < 0.0001) and nocturia (OR = 0.53; 95% CI: 0.44-0.65, p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: This cross-sectional study revealed an inverse relationship between the LE8 score and the likelihood of both UUI and nocturia.

Image sensors face substantial challenges when dealing with dynamic, diverse and unpredictable scenes in open-world applications. However, the development of image sensors towards high speed, high resolution, large dynamic range and high precision is limited by power and bandwidth. Here we present a complementary sensing paradigm inspired by the human visual system that involves parsing visual information into primitive-based representations and assembling these primitives to form two complementary vision pathways: a cognition-oriented pathway for accurate cognition and an action-oriented pathway for rapid response. To realize this paradigm, a vision chip called Tianmouc is developed, incorporating a hybrid pixel array and a parallel-and-heterogeneous readout architecture. Leveraging the characteristics of the complementary vision pathway, Tianmouc achieves high-speed sensing of up to 10,000 fps, a dynamic range of 130 dB and an advanced figure of merit in terms of spatial resolution, speed and dynamic range. Furthermore, it adaptively reduces bandwidth by 90%. We demonstrate the integration of a Tianmouc chip into an autonomous driving system, showcasing its abilities to enable accurate, fast and robust perception, even in challenging corner cases on open roads. The primitive-based complementary sensing paradigm helps in overcoming fundamental limitations in developing vision systems for diverse open-world applications.

The causal role of body mass index (BMI) in bladder cancer (BC) by Mendelian randomization (MR) has not yet been reported. We evaluated the causal associations between the measures of obesity (BMI, waist circumference, and body fat percentage) and BC. We conducted a 2-sample MR analysis to assess the genetic effect of measures of obesity on BC. The BMI dataset (GWAS ID: ukb-b-2303) comprised 454,884 Europeans, and we identified 9,851,867 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The waist circumference data (GWAS ID: ukb-b-9405) included 462,166 Europeans and 9,851,867 SNPs. The body fat percentage dataset (GWAS ID: ukb-a-264) contained data from 331,117 Europeans and 10,894,596 SNPs. For the outcome data, the GWAS ID was finn-b-C3_BLADDER, consisting of 1115 cases and 217,677 controls, with 16,380,466 SNPs. The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) model was used as the primary MR analysis. Cochran Q-statistic was used to identify heterogeneity between the SNPs. The MR-Egger and MR-PRESSO methods were employed to assess directional pleiotropy and outlier SNPs. We detected a decisive causal link between BMI and BC by the IVW analysis (odds ratio [OR]â =â 1.41, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.08-1.85, Pâ =â .011). The IVW analyses revealed a significant correlation between BC and waist circumference (ORâ =â 1.55, 95% CI: 1.08-2.12, Pâ =â .016). However, the IVW method (ORâ =â 1.49, 95% CI: 0.99-2.00, Pâ =â .05) did not report any statistical significance between body fat percentage and BC. We did not observe heterogeneity and directional pleiotropy in the 3 pairs of MR studies. The 2-sample MR analysis revealed a conceivable causal association between obesity (BMI, waist circumference) and BC.
