RESUMO

AIM: The preoperative diagnostic method for superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SESCC) invasion depth based on the Japan Esophageal Society (JES) classification has been promoted. However, there have been a few investigations into its diagnostic performance in clinical settings. Therefore, we aimed to elucidate the actual diagnostic performance of the JES classification using a single-center retrospective study design. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 315 newly diagnosed SESCC patients who underwent narrow-band imaging magnifying endoscopy (NBI-ME) examination and received endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) or esophagectomy in our center during the past 5 years. To evaluate the diagnostic performance of JES classification in assessing the depth of invasion of SESCC, clinical data of these patients were collected, and the concordance between NBI-ME findings and postoperative pathology reports was analyzed. RESULTS: This study included a total of 338 lesions. The diagnostic accuracy of vascular morphology was 76.0%. The sensitivity (87.0%) and positive predictive value (PPV, 85.4%) of B1 vessels were high, but the specificity (42.0%) and negative predictive value (NPV, 45.3%) were low. The specificity (86.9% and 98.8%) and NPVs (87.5% and 96.8%) of B2 and B3 vessels were high, but the sensitivity (36.4% and 21.4%) and PPVs (35.1% and 42.9%) ware low. Furthermore, only a few lesions (n = 57) described avascular area, but the overall diagnostic accuracy was not ideal (21.1%). However, if lesions invading the superficial submucosa or shallower were included in the category of "suitable for ESD", the overall accuracy of the JES classification was found to be 95.6%. CONCLUSIONS: In actual clinical settings, the overall accuracy of the JES classification system decreases, but the diagnostic performance of each subtype retains its original characteristics. Additionally, this classification is appropriate for determining whether type 0-II SESCC lesions are suitable for ESD.

RESUMO

This study applies the Apriori algorithm and social network analysis to analyze travelogue data from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, effectively mapping significant border tourism hotspots and their interconnections within defined networks. Our findings distinctly partition the region into two principal sub-networks: Xinjiang and Tibet, highlighting the geographical segmentation that potentially impedes comprehensive regional tourism integration. The analysis underscores a pronounced reliance on transportation, reflecting the inherently multi-destination nature of border tourism in the area. Key nodes within these networks include Kashgar City and Lhasa City, serving as central hubs in their respective sub-networks, while Gar County and Hotan County act as pivotal connectors bridging the two distinct areas. Additionally, Gyirong County, Nyalam County, and Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County are identified as well-developed border tourism destinations, with Gyirong County and Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County possessing substantial potential to evolve into core border tourism hubs. Drawing on these insights, the study proposes targeted development strategies to enhance the structure and efficacy of border tourism on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

RESUMO

Curiosity is a powerful motivator of behaviour. Although there have been some studies pertaining to the application of curiosity in the realm of food, research examining the potential to influence consumer food waste behaviour through the induction of curiosity is lacking. This study conducted two onsite dining experiments to explore the role and mechanism of curiosity in reducing food waste in a real dining environment by utilising an information gap design in tableware to induce participants' curiosity. Experiment 1 investigated the differences in food waste between participants using bowls with an information gap design and those using bowls with no information gap (blank bowls). Experiment 2 further controlled for other variables that could potentially influence the outcomes between bowls with and without information gaps; the latter displayed complete text externally. The results of both experiments consistently demonstrated a significant reduction in participants' food waste when utilising utensils with an information gap design. Moreover, we conducted an exploratory analysis combining these two experiments to examine the mediating mechanisms involved. Furthermore, the exploratory analysis suggested the mediating mechanism of curiosity elicited by the information gap design, ultimately leading to a decrease in food waste. This study presents a potential avenue for a simple and innovative approach for mitigating food waste.

RESUMO

The ALOG (Arabidopsis LSH1 and Oryza G1) family proteins, namely, DUF640 domain-containing proteins, have been reported to function as transcription factors in various plants. However, the understanding of the response and function of ALOG family genes during reproductive development and under abiotic stress is still largely limited. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed the structural characteristics of ALOG family proteins and their expression profiles during inflorescence development and under abiotic stress in rice. The results showed that OsG1/OsG1L1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 all had four conserved helical structures and an inserted Zinc-Ribbon (ZnR), the other four proteins OsG1L10/11/12/13 lacked complete Helix-1 and Helix-2. In the ALOG gene promoters, there were abundant cis-acting elements, including ABA, MeJA, and drought-responsive elements. Most ALOG genes show a decrease in expression levels within 24 h under ABA and drought treatments, while OsG1L2 expression levels show an upregulated trend under ABA and drought treatments. The expression analysis at different stages of inflorescence development indicated that OsG1L1/2/3/8/11 were mainly expressed in the P1 stage; in the P4 stage, OsG1/OsG1L4/5/9/12 had a higher expression level. These results lay a good foundation for further studying the expression of rice ALOG family genes under abiotic stresses, and provide important experimental support for their functional research.

RESUMO

Contemporary women frequently employ beautification strategies. The impact of such strategies, such as plastic surgery, on mating popularity in different mate contexts remains unclear. To investigate this issue, the current study conducted two experiments. In Experiment 1, beautification strategies were manipulated using three images of the same female with different conditions (natural, makeup, and plastic surgery). The results indicated that when the beautification strategies were not informed, surgical-enhanced and makeup targets were perceived as significantly more attractive, loyal, and popular among potential mates than natural targets. However, when participants were informed of the beautification strategies, both natural and makeup targets showed a significant increase in perceived loyalty and mating popularity. In contrast, surgically enhanced targets saw a reduction in these dimensions. Experiment 2 aimed to reduce the confounding effect of facial attractiveness by using vignettes. The results indicated that the mating popularity of natural targets was significantly higher than that of makeup or surgically enhanced targets, with surgically enhanced targets being the least popular. Moreover, the results revealed the mediating role of perceived loyalty in the impact of beautification strategies on long-term mating popularity. This study sheds light on the potential stigmatization and negative bias toward beautification strategies in the mating market. Additionally, it provides guidance for women who intend to enhance their mate popularity through plastic surgery.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Ultrathin EGD (UT-EGD) is an ideal tool for unsedated upper GI examination and pediatric gastroenterology but is rarely competent for EUS miniprobe (EUS-MP). We developed a UT-EGD US method (UT-EUS) and verified its clinical application value through animal experiments. METHODS: Five Bama miniature pigs were selected. Using an acoustic medium, we performed US on the duodenum, stomach, and esophagus, respectively, with conventional 20-MHz EUS miniprobe (EUS-MP-20), 20-MHz UT-EUS (UT-EUS-20), and 30-MHz UT-EUS (UT-EUS-30). The times to acquire 5 consecutive stable US images, number of identifiable wall layers, and quality and penetration depth of the images were recorded. RESULTS: No significant differences were found in the time required to obtain images between EUS-MP-20 and UT-EUS-20 at each site (P > .05). UT-EUS-30 showed more wall levels than UT-EUS-20 (P < .05). No significant differences were noted between EUS-MP-20 and UT-EUS-20 in imaging quality and penetration depth (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS: The UT-EUS is easy to use with a satisfactory image quality and has potential clinical application value.

RESUMO

In this study, a Ni-based composite incorporating Ni4N and La2O3 supported on carbon nanotubes (Ni-La-Ni4N/CNT) was synthesized as an efficiency electrocatalyst towards the hydrogen evolution reaction in different electrolytes with the kinetics and energy consumption investigated in detail. The Ni-La-Ni4N/CNT exhibits overpotentials of 124 mV and 200 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm-2 in 1.0 M KOH and alkaline seawater, respectively. As quantitative comparison, the exchange current density (j°) based on Volmer-Heyrovsky-Tafel mechanism was calculated from various polarization curves, which indicated that the addition of NaCl in alkaline medium or using seawater alone reduced the reactivity of the catalyst. The activity of Ni-La-Ni4N/CNT in alkaline seawater was equal to 91% of that in 1.0 M KOH. Furthermore, dynamic polarization resistance and corresponding current were obtained by the analysis of the equivalent circuit model with the extended Kalman filter algorithm. The analysis of the resistance power at 1 mW also shows that the current between the conditions in KOH and in seawater is 2.76 times. Adding alkaline substances to seawater can narrow it to 1.19 times. These strategies provide novel approaches for inspecting the activity changes of materials in different electrochemical environments.

RESUMO

Black phosphorene quantum dots (BPQDs) were prepared by ultrasonic-assisted liquid-phase exfoliation and centrifugation with morphologies proved by TEM results. Furthermore, an electrochemical enzyme sensor was prepared by co-modification of BPQDs with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) on the surface of a carbon ionic liquid electrode (CILE) for the first time. The direct electrochemical behavior of HRP was studied with a pair of well-shaped voltammetric peaks that appeared, indicating that the existence of BPQDs was beneficial to accelerate the electron transfer rate between HRP and the electrode surface. This was due to the excellent properties of BPQDs, such as small particle size, high interfacial reaction activity, fast conductivity, and good biocompatibility. The presence of BPQDs on the electrode surface provided a fast channel for direct electron transfer of HRP. Therefore, the constructed electrochemical HRP biosensor was firstly used to investigate the electrocatalytic behavior of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and potassium bromate (KBrO3), and the wide linear detection ranges of TCA and KBrO3 were 4.0-600.0 mmol/L and 2.0-57.0 mmol/L, respectively. The modified electrode was applied to the actual samples detection with satisfactory results.

RESUMO

The multifunctional tuning of solid-state dielectric switches constructed from organic-inorganic hybrid materials (OIHMs) has received great attention. In particular, molecular ferroelastics with dielectric phase transitions have considerable potential in the optical and electrical fields owing to their adjustable structures and physical features. However, it remains a challenge to effectively design ferroelastics with high phase transition temperature (Tc). We used [TTMA]2CdI4 (TTMA = tetramethylammonium, 1) as a template to continuously increase the molecular weight and change the structure of the hybrid material by modifying and extending the alkane chain in the cation. Therefore, a series of OIHMs were eventually developed: [TMEA]2CdI4 (TMEA = trimethylethylammonium, 2), [TMPA]2CdI4 (TMPA = trimethylpropylammonium, 3), and [TMIPA]2CdI4 (TMIPA = trimethyliso-propylammonium, 4). Among them, the Tc of ferroelastic 3 increased up to 387 K. DSC and temperature-related dielectric constant tests prove the occurrence of the phase transition for 1, 2, and 3. The structures further indicate that the phase transition is caused by the order-disorder cation motion. The extension of the alkyl chain greatly increases Tc and endows 3 with ferroelasticity at room temperature.

RESUMO

In situ NMR spectroelectrochemistry is extremely powerful in studying redox reactions in real time and identifying unstable reaction intermediates. In this paper, in situ polymerization synthesis of ultrathin graphdiyne (GDY) nanosheets was realized on the surface of copper nanoflower/copper foam (nano-Cu/Cuf)-based electrode with hexakisbenzene monomers and pyridine. Palladium (Pd) nanoparticles were further deposited onto the GDY nanosheets by the constant potential method. By using this GDY composite as electrode material, a new NMR-electrochemical cell was designed for in situ NMR spectroelectrochemistry measurement. The three-electrode electrochemical system consists of a Pd/GDY/nano-Cu/Cuf electrode as the working electrode, a platinum wire as the counter electrode, and a silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) wire as a quasi-reference electrode, which can be dipped into a specially constructed sample tube and adapted for convenient operation in any commercial high-field, variable-temperature FT NMR spectrometer. The application of this NMR-electrochemical cell is illustrated by monitoring the progressive oxidation of hydroquinone to benzoquinone by controlled-potential electrolysis in aqueous solution.

RESUMO

Isopropyl 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-hydroxypropanoate (IDHP) is the core active substance of salvia miltiorrhiza in disease treatment. The significance of our work lies in evaluating the ameliorating effects of IDHP on hypoxia-induced injury and investigating its mechanisms. We examined the morphology, dopamine neurons (DANs), cerebral vessels, and behavior of zebrafish larvae administrated by IDHP/VHC after hypoxia-induction. We next sought to explore its anti-hypoxic mechanisms via transcriptome analysis and qPCR experiments. The results indicated that hypoxia-induced injuries, including decreased length of DANs, number of cereal vessels, total swimming distance, and average swimming speed, were all alleviated by IDHP. Furthermore, transcriptome analysis provided a sign that IDHP most likely played the anti-hypoxic role through the neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction (NLRI) signaling pathway. Consistently, expression of related genes, such as f2rl1.1, p2ry10, npy1r, ptger2b, ptger2b, pth2rb, and nmur1a, was downregulated by hypoxia induction and recovered after IDHP administration. Therefore, we speculated that, via regulating NLRI, IDHP reduced inflammation, promoted angiogenesis, modulated blood pressure and flow, and inhibited cell apoptosis, and eventually played an anti-hypoxic role.

RESUMO

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive subtype of breast cancer that is suggested to be associated with hypoxia. This study is the first to identify a novel circular RNA (circRNA), circTBC1D14, whose expression is significantly upregulated in TNBC. The authors confirm that high circTBC1D14 expression is associated with a poor prognosis in patients with breast cancer. circTBC1D14-associated mass spectrometry and RNA-binding protein-related bioinformatics strategies indicate that FUS can interact with circTBC1D14, which can bind to the downstream flanking sequence of circTBC1D14 to induce cyclization. FUS is an essential biomarker associated with stress granules (SGs), and the authors find that hypoxic conditions can induce FUS-circTBC1D14-associated SG formation in the cytoplasm after modification by protein PRMT1. Subsequently, circTBC1D14 increases the stability of PRMT1 by inhibiting its K48-regulated polyubiquitination, leading to the upregulation of PRMT1 expression. In addition, FUS-circTBC1D14 SGs can initiate a cascade of SG-linked proteins to recognize and control the elimination of SGs by recruiting LAMP1 and enhancing lysosome-associated autophagy flux, thus contributing to the maintenance of cellular homeostasis and promoting tumor progression in TNBC. Overall, these findings reveal that circTBC1D14 is a potential prognostic indicator that can serve as a therapeutic target for TNBC treatment.

RESUMO

Identifying sources of phytopathogen inoculum and determining their contributions to disease outbreaks are essential for predicting disease development and establishing control strategies. Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), the causal agent of wheat stripe rust, is an airborne fungal pathogen with rapid virulence variation that threatens wheat production through its long-distance migration. Because of wide variation in geographic features, climatic conditions, and wheat production systems, Pst sources and related dispersal routes in China are largely unclear. In the present study, we performed genomic analyses of 154 Pst isolates from all major wheat-growing regions in China to determine Pst population structure and diversity. Through trajectory tracking, historical migration studies, genetic introgression analyses, and field surveys, we investigated Pst sources and their contributions to wheat stripe rust epidemics. We identified Longnan, the Himalayan region, and the Guizhou Plateau, which contain the highest population genetic diversities, as the Pst sources in China. Pst from Longnan disseminates mainly to eastern Liupan Mountain, the Sichuan Basin, and eastern Qinghai; that from the Himalayan region spreads mainly to the Sichuan Basin and eastern Qinghai; and that from the Guizhou Plateau migrates mainly to the Sichuan Basin and the Central Plain. These findings improve our current understanding of wheat stripe rust epidemics in China and emphasize the need for managing stripe rust on a national scale.

RESUMO

Mitophagy, which selectively eliminates the dysfunctional and excess mitochondria by autophagy, is crucial for cellular homeostasis under stresses such as hypoxia. Dysregulation of mitophagy has been increasingly linked to many disorders including neurodegenerative disease and cancer. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), a highly aggressive breast cancer subtype, is reported to be characterized by hypoxia. However, the role of mitophagy in hypoxic TNBC as well as the underlying molecular mechanism is largely unexplored. Here, we identified GPCPD1 (glycerophosphocholine phosphodiesterase 1), a key enzyme in choline metabolism, as an essential mediator in hypoxia-induced mitophagy. Under the hypoxic condition, we found that GPCPD1 was depalmitoylated by LYPLA1, which facilitated the relocating of GPCPD1 to the outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM). Mitochondria-localized GPCPD1 could bind to VDAC1, the substrate for PRKN/PARKIN-dependent ubiquitination, thus interfering with the oligomerization of VDAC1. The increased monomer of VDAC1 provided more anchor sites to recruit PRKN-mediated polyubiquitination, which consequently triggered mitophagy. In addition, we found that GPCPD1-mediated mitophagy exerted a promotive effect on tumor growth and metastasis in TNBC both in vitro and in vivo. We further determined that GPCPD1 could serve as an independent prognostic indicator in TNBC. In conclusion, our study provides important insights into a mechanistic understanding of hypoxia-induced mitophagy and elucidates that GPCPD1 could act as a potential target for the future development of novel therapy for TNBC patients.Abbreviations: ACTB: actin beta; 5-aza: 5-azacytidine; BNIP3: BCL2 interacting protein 3; BNIP3L: BCL2 interacting protein 3 like; CCCP: carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenyl hydrazone; ChIP: chromatin immunoprecipitation; co-IP: co-immunoprecipitation; CQ: chloroquine; CsA: cyclosporine; DOX: doxorubicin; FIS1: fission, mitochondrial 1; FUNDC1: FUN14 domain containing 1; GPCPD1: glycerophosphocholine phosphodiesterase 1; HAM: hydroxylamine; HIF1A: hypoxia inducible factor 1 subunit alpha; HRE: hypoxia response element; IF: immunofluorescence; LB: lysis buffer; LC3B/MAP1LC3B: microtubule associated protein 1 light chain 3 beta; LC-MS: liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry; LYPLA1: lysophospholipase 1; LYPLA2: lysophospholipase 2; MDA231: MDA-MB-231; MDA468: MDA-MB-468; MFN1: mitofusin 1; MFN2: mitofusin 2; MKI67: marker of proliferation Ki-67; OCR: oxygen consumption rate; OMM: outer mitochondrial membrane; OS: overall survival; PalmB: palmostatin B; PBS: phosphate-buffered saline; PINK1: PTEN induced kinase 1; PRKN: parkin RBR E3 ubiquitin protein ligase; SDS: sodium dodecyl sulfate; TOMM20: translocase of outer mitochondrial membrane 20; TNBC: triple-negative breast cancer; VBIT-4: VDAC inhibitor; VDAC1: voltage dependent anion channel 1; WT: wild type.

RESUMO

To design a new electrochemical horseradish peroxidase (HRP) biosensor with excellent analytical performance, black phosphorene (BP) nanosheets and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) nanocomposites were used as the modifier, with a carbon ionic liquid electrode (CILE) as the substrate electrode. The SWCNTs-BP nanocomposite was synthesized by a simple in situ mixing procedure and modified on the CILE surface by the direct casting method. Then HRP was immobilized on the modified electrode with Nafion film. The electrocatalysis of this electrochemical HRP biosensor to various targets was further explored. Experimental results indicated that the direct electrochemistry of HRP was realized with a pair of symmetric and quasi-reversible redox peaks appeared, which was due to the presence of SWCNTs-BP on the surface of CILE, exhibiting synergistic effects with high electrical conductivity and good biocompatibility. Excellent electrocatalytic activity to trichloroacetic acid (TCA), sodium nitrite (NaNO2), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) were realized, with a wide linear range and a low detection limit. Different real samples, such as a medical facial peel solution, the soak water of pickled vegetables, and a 3% H2O2 disinfectant, were further analyzed, with satisfactory results, further proving the potential practical applications for the electrochemical biosensor.

RESUMO

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), one of the dominating constituents of tumor microenvironment, are important contributors to cancer progression and treatment resistance. Therefore, regulation of TAMs polarization from M2 phenotype towards M1 phenotype has emerged as a new strategy for tumor immunotherapy. Herein, we successfully initiated antitumor immunotherapy by inhibiting TAMs M2 polarization via autophagy intervention with polyethylene glycol-conjugated gold nanoparticles (PEG-AuNPs). PEG-AuNPs suppressed TAMs M2 polarization in both in vitro and in vivo models, elicited antitumor immunotherapy and inhibited subcutaneous tumor growth in mice. As demonstrated by the mRFP-GFP-LC3 assay and analyzing the autophagy-related proteins (LC3, beclin1 and P62), PEG-AuNPs induced autophagic flux inhibition in TAMs, which is attributed to the PEG-AuNPs induced lysosome alkalization and membrane permeabilization. Besides, TAMs were prone to polarize towards M2 phenotype following autophagy activation, whereas inhibition of autophagic flux could reduce the M2 polarization of TAMs. Our results revealed a mechanism underlying PEG-AuNPs induced antitumor immunotherapy, where PEG-AuNPs reduce TAMs M2 polarization via induction of lysosome dysfunction and autophagic flux inhibition. This study elucidated the biological effects of nanomaterials on TAMs polarization and provided insight into harnessing the intrinsic immunomodulation capacity of nanomaterials for effective cancer treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Emotional eaters eat to relieve their emotions. However, food also contains esthetic information. People generally perceive ugly food as unhealthy and unpalatable. Does the esthetic information of food influence an emotional eater's desire for food in a negative emotional state? In particular, do they have the same lower eating intentions for low esthetic food as non-emotional eaters? OBJECTIVE/DESIGN/MEASURES: Based on these questions, the present study examined whether the esthetic value of food influences emotional eaters' desires for food. The experiment used a 2 (eating type: emotional eating vs. non-emotional eating) × 2 (food style: high esthetic vs. low esthetic) mixed experimental design. We measured the emotional and non-emotional eaters' eating intentions for different esthetic foods when experiencing negative emotions. RESULTS: The results showed that emotional eaters have higher intention to eat high esthetic foods. However, they did not have a high eating intention for all foods, and their eating intention did not differ from that of non-emotional eaters when faced with low esthetic food. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, food esthetic value can affect individual eating intentions. Even for emotional eaters who are in a negative mood, they also did not have a higher eating intention for low esthetic food compared with no-emotional eater. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level II: controlled trial without randomization.

RESUMO

Generally, people prefer to dine in beautiful environments. Previous studies have reported that environmental factors affect an individual's perception of food; however, little is known about the effect of environmental aesthetics on food perception. In Experiment 1, we used photographs of restaurant (1a) or non-restaurant (1b) environments with high or low aesthetic value, paired with images of foods, and participants were asked to rate the visual, olfactory, and gustatory aesthetic value of the food. Results showed significantly higher ratings for food perception in all three sensory modalities in the high aesthetic value environment, together with positive emotion and the desire to eat, compared with the low aesthetic environment. Experiment 2 extended the study to two real-world environments (one high and one low aesthetic value) and actual food consumption. The results also found higher aesthetic ratings in the olfactory and gustatory systems and greater desire to eat again in an environment with high aesthetic value than in an environment with low aesthetic value. This research also explored the mediating role of emotion in the relationship between environmental aesthetics and food perception and found a significant mediating relationship. In conclusion, environmental aesthetics play an important role in food perception, and these findings provide insights into increasing positive food perception in daily life.

RESUMO

Interest has been growing in the role of subjective aesthetics in the field of food. This study explored the mechanisms by which the aesthetic appeal of plate patterns influences consumers' perceptions of food. Three experiments were conducted to compare whether different levels of beauty and types of plate pattern aesthetics (classical versus expressive) affected the perceptions of tastiness and healthiness of the food offered. Experiment 1 was carried out with 30 participants, and the results showed that participants perceived the food presented on more beautiful plates as tastier and healthier than the food on less beautiful plates. Experiment 2 was carried out with 128 participants; the results showed that, for expressively aesthetic plates, the participants experienced more positive emotions for very beautiful plates and more negative emotions for less beautiful plates. However, for classical aesthetic plates, participants' emotions were not affected by the beauty of the plate. Experiment 3 was carried out with 149 participants, and the results showed that, for classically aesthetic plates, participants perceived the food placed in the middle to be tastier than food placed at the edge; however, for expressively aesthetic plates, food placement did not affect participants' perceptions of food. These results demonstrate the importance of the subjective beauty of plate patterns in influencing consumers' food perceptions, although this influence varies depending on the type of aesthetic design of the plate pattern.
