RESUMO

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is an emerging systemic inflammation marker associated with disease progression and mortality in patients. However, there is limited research on the predictive value of NLR in the general population. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between NLR and all-cause mortality in an elderly Chinese population. A retrospective cohort study was conducted based on health examination in a community in Shanghai, China, between 2015 and 2020. Among 6364 participants (aged ≥ 55 years), a total of 169 (2.66%) participants died during a median follow-up period of 5.37 years. The median NLR was 1.63. Multivariate analysis revealed that the upper 2 quartiles of NLR were positively associated with all-cause mortality (Q3 vs Q1: hazard ratio [HR] = 1.82; Q4 vs Q1: HR = 2.22). The stratified and interaction analyses showed that age, sex, body mass index (BMI), history of diabetes, or history of hypertension did not significantly modify the association between NLR and all-cause mortality. Elevated NLR was independently associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality in the elderly Chinese population.

RESUMO

AIM: This study investigated the effects of insulin glargine and exenatide on the muscle mass of patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). METHODS: We performed a post-hoc analysis of our previously study, a 24-week randomized controlled multicenter clinical trial (ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02303730). Seventy-six patients were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive insulin glargine or exenatide treatment. The changes in psoas muscle area (PMA) (mm2) were obtained with the cross-sectional Dixonfat magnetic resonance images at the fourth lumber vertebra. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in age, BMI, gender, and PMA in insulin glargine and exenatide groups at baseline. After treatment, PMA tended to increase by 13.13 (-215.52, 280.80) mm2 in the insulin glargine group and decrease by 149.09 (322.90-56.39) mm2 in the exenatide group (both p>0.05). Subgroup analysis showed a 560.64 (77.88, 1043.40) (mm2) increase of PMA in the insulin group relative to the Exenatide group in patients with BMI<28 kg/m2 (p0.031) after adjusting for gender, age, and research center. Interaction analysis showed an interaction between BMI and treatment (p0.009). However, no interaction was observed among subgroups with a BMI≥28 kg/m2 or with different genders and ages. CONCLUSION: Compared to exenatide, insulin glargine can relativity increase PMA in patients with T2DM having BMI<28 kg/m2 and NAFLD.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Construction worker fatigue is an important factor leading to unsafe behavior, a major cause of construction accidents. Uncovering the impact mechanism of fatigue on workers' unsafe behavior can prevent construction accidents. However, it is difficult to effectively measure workers' fatigue onsite and analyze the impact of worker fatigue on their unsafe behavior. METHOD: This research analyzes the relationship between the physical and mental fatigue of construction workers and their unsafe behavior via physiological measurement based on a simulated experiment on handling tasks. RESULTS: It is found that: (a) both physical fatigue and mental fatigue have negative effects on workers' cognitive ability and motion ability, and the negative effects are more serious under the combination of the two types of fatigue; (b) mental fatigue can easily change workers' risk propensity, making them more willing to face risks, and in a state of the two types of fatigue, they are more likely to make choices with less pay and higher risk; (c) the number of signal identification errors is positively correlated with LF (low frequency)/HF (high frequency), and negatively correlated with the standard deviation of normal-to-normal intervals (SDNN), while the number of footstep control errors is negatively correlated with the time elapsed between two successive R waves (RR interval) and skin temperature (SKT). PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: These findings can enrich construction safety management theory from a perspective of quantified fatigue and facilitate safety management practices on construction sites, thus contributing to the body of knowledge and practices of construction safety management.

RESUMO

This study investigated the relationships between parental responsiveness, teaching responsiveness, and creativity, as well as the mechanism underlying these associations. We collected data from 584 Chinese college students via convenience sampling method and used self-report scales to measure their perceived parental responsiveness, teaching responsiveness, creative self-efficacy, and creativity. We employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to examine the relationships among these variables and the mediation effect. The results revealed that both parental responsiveness and teaching responsiveness were positively related to student creativity. Moreover, creative self-efficacy mediated the relationships of parental responsiveness, teaching responsiveness, and creativity. The findings highlight the significance of responsiveness from parents and teachers on student creativity and verify the potential mediating role of creative self-efficacy. These findings suggest that teachers and parents can foster creativity by providing warm and supportive responses to students' creative needs.

RESUMO

This article describes a dataset collected in a set of experiments that involves human participants and a robot. The set of experiments was conducted in the computing science robotics lab in Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, BC, Canada, and its aim is to gather data containing common gestures, movements, and other behaviours that may indicate humans' navigational intent relevant for autonomous robot navigation. The experiment simulates a shopping scenario where human participants come in to pick up items from his/her shopping list and interact with a Pepper robot that is programmed to help the human participant. We collected visual data and motion capture data from 108 human participants. The visual data contains live recordings of the experiments and the motion capture data contains the position and orientation of the human participants in world coordinates. This dataset could be valuable for researchers in the robotics, machine learning and computer vision community.

RESUMO

The current study's purpose is to explore the influence of peer-perceived creativity (sociometric creativity) on the short-term development of friendships during a summer program for high ability students. Specifically, the two main objectives of our study are: (1) How did students' friendships network and sociometric creativity network evolve in the summer program? (2) How did sociometric creativity influence the friendship formation? The longitudinal study was conducted at the beginning, middle and the end of a 3-week long program for gifted students in Ireland. The sample consisted of Irish gifted students (N = 702, aged 13-18 years, 52% female, over thirty-one classes). Overall, our longitudinal multilevel and multigroup social network analysis shows that gifted adolescents formed reciprocated friendship ties and cohesive peer group structures in the investigated period; similar age and the same gender predicted friendship formation. Regarding the sociometric creativity, they tended to nominate a similar age and same gender student as very creative. Moreover, the sociometric creativity positively influenced adolescents' friendship networks on a dyadic level, indicating that adolescents select friends based on their perception of the other student's creativity. Further results, explanations, and implications are discussed.

RESUMO

Quasi lateral-field-excitation (LFE) on LiNbO3 crystal is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. It is found that when the driving electric field direction is parallel to the crystallographic X-axis of the piezoelectric substrate, (yxl)-17° LiNbO3 LFE bulk acoustic wave devices work on quasi-LFE mode. The experimental results agreed with the theoretical prediction well. The results provide the cut of LiNbO3 crystal for quasi-LFE bulk acoustic wave devices, which is important for designing high performance LFE sensors on LiNbO3 substrates.

RESUMO

Lateral-field-excited (LFE) bulk acoustic wave sensors on langasite working on different operational modes are investigated and compared. Langasite LFE sensors on pure-LFE mode and pseudo-LFE mode are designed and fabricated. The sensitivities of the devices to changes in liquid electrical properties (e.g., conductivity or permittivity) and micro-mass changes on their surfaces were tested and compared. The experimental results show that compared with langasite pure-LFE devices, langasite pseudo-LFE devices have superior sensitivities to both liquid conductivity and liquid permittivity changes. For the micro-mass changes, the pure- LFE devices showed high sensitivity, whereas the pseudo-LFE devices do not, because they cannot resonate in air. On this basis, the physical interpretation of these results is discussed.

RESUMO

In this work, to improve the sensitivity of lateral field excited (LFE) sensors to changes of liquid conductivity, LFE bulk acoustic wave sensors with interdigital electrodes are investigated. LFE bulk acoustic wave on thickness-shear mode is excited successfully by interdigital electrodes on (yxl)88° LiTaO(3) and applied in liquid-phase sensor. The electric field direction of LFE (yxl)88° LiTaO(3) plates is determined. Based on this, several LFE bulk acoustic wave sensors with interdigital electrodes are designed and fabricated to increase the sensitivity of LiTaO(3) LFE sensors. The results show that the (yxl)88° LiTaO(3) LFE sensor with interdigital electrodes is 10.9 times and 2.1 times more sensitive to changes in liquid conductivity compared to traditional LFE devices with single gap circular electrodes and Archimedes spiral electrodes, respectively. The results are important for investigating high-sensitivity LFE bulk acoustic wave sensors by using LiTaO(3) crystal.

RESUMO

A high-frequency broadband focusing transducer based on dimpled LiNbO(3) inversion layer plate has been fabricated and characterized. A spherical surface with a curvature radius of 6 mm is formed on the half-thickness LiNbO(3) inversion layer plate of Y36° cut orientation. The domain structure in the cross section is observed after a hydrofluoric acid etching process. For transducer fabrication, conductive epoxy is used as the backing material and polymer is deposited on the front face as the matching layer. The center frequency, bandwidth, and insertion loss of the focused transducer are measured to be 72 MHz, 136%, and -32 dB, respectively. The focused transducer has been successfully used for rabbit eyeball imaging and a better imaging capability compared with the planar transducer has been demonstrated. These promising results prove that the dimpled LiNbO(3) inversion layer plate has great potential for fabrication of high-frequency broadband focusing ultrasonic transducers.

RESUMO

We determine optimal electrode shape and size of lateral-field-excited (LFE) thickness-shear resonators. The determined electrodes are optimal in that they satisfy the criterion for Bechmann's number in every direction. Numerical and graphical results are provided for AT-cut quartz, (yxl)- 45°langasite, and (yxl)-16.5°LiTaO(3) LFE resonators. The optimal electrodes of AT-cut quartz LFE resonators are also compared with those of AT-cut quartz thickness-field-excited (TFE) resonators.
