OBJECTIVES: To investigate the level of neuropsychological development in large for gestational age (LGA) infants at the age of 12 months. METHODS: The infants, aged 12 to <13 months, who attended the Outpatient Service of Child Care in the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University from December 2021 to June 2023, were enrolled as subjects. According to the gestational age and birth weight, they were divided into preterm appropriate for gestational age (AGA) group, preterm LGA group, early term AGA group, early term LGA group, full-term AGA group, and full-term LGA group. A modified Poisson regression analysis was used to investigate the association between LGA and neuropsychological development outcome at 12 months of age. RESULTS: After adjustment for confounding factors, compared with the full-term AGA group at the age of 12 months, the full-term LGA group had a significant increase in the risk of language deficit (RR=1.364, 95%CI: 1.063-1.750), the early term LGA group had significant increases in the risk of abnormal gross motor, fine motor, language, and the preterm LGA group had significant increases in the risk of abnormal language, social behavior, and total developmental quotient (P<0.05); also, the early term AGA group had higher risks of developmental delay across all five attributes and in total developmental quotient at the age of 12 months (P<0.05); except for the language attribute, the preterm AGA group had higher risks of developmental delay in the other 4 attributes (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The neuropsychological development of LGA infants with different gestational ages lags behind that of full-term AGA infants at 12 months of age, and follow-up and early intervention of such infants should be taken seriously in clinical practice.

To understand the coloring mechanism in black radish, the integrated metabolome and transcriptome analyses of root skin from a black recombinant inbred line (RIL 1901) and a white RIL (RIL 1911) were carried out. A total of 172 flavonoids were detected, and the analysis results revealed that there were 12 flavonoid metabolites in radish root skin, including flavonols, flavones, and anthocyanins. The relative concentrations of most flavonoids in RIL 1901 were higher than those in RIL 1911. Meanwhile, the radish root skin also contained 16 types of anthocyanins, 12 of which were cyanidin and its derivatives, and the concentration of cyanidin 3-o-glucoside was very high at different development stages of black radish. Therefore, the accumulation of cyanidin and its derivatives resulted in the black root skin of radish. In addition, a module positively related to anthocyanin accumulation and candidate genes that regulate anthocyanin synthesis was identified by the weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Among them, structural genes (RsCHS, RsCHI, RsDFR, and RsUGT75C1) and transcription factors (TFs) (RsTT8, RsWRKY44L, RsMYB114, and RsMYB308L) may be crucial for the anthocyanin synthesis in the root skin of black radish. The anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway in the root skin of black radish was constructed based on the expression of genes related to flavonoid and anthocyanin biosynthesis pathways (Ko00941 and Ko00942) and the relative expressions of metabolites. In conclusion, this study not only casts new light on the synthesis and accumulation of anthocyanins in the root skin of black radish but also provides a molecular basis for accelerating the cultivation of new black radish varieties.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on the improvement of depressive-like behavior and the splenic α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAchR) / Janus kinase 2 (JAK2 / signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced depressive-like behavior rats, so as to investigate the antidepressant mechanism of taVNS. METHODS: SD rats were randomly divided into SD control group, SD model group and SD taVNS group, and α7nAchR knockout rats were also randomly divided into α7 control group, α7 model group and α7 taVNS group, with 6 rats in each group. Rat model of depressive-like behavior was established by intraperitoneal injection of LPS (1 mg/kg). Rats in both SD taVNS and α7 taVNS groups received taVNS intervention once a day (2 Hz/15 Hz, 2 mA, 30 min) from 7 days before LPS injection to 2 days after LPS injection, respectively. The mean speed, activity time and side immobility time in the open field test were recorded after taVNS. The contents of interleukin 10 (IL-10) and chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1 (CXCL1) in serum were detected by electrochemiluminescence multifactorial method. The splenic phosphorylated (p)-JAK2 and p-STAT3 protein expressions were detected by Western blot. RESULTS: Compared with their respective control groups, the mean speed and active time were reduced (P<0.01, P<0.05, P<0.001) and the side immobility time was increased (P<0.001) in the open field test, serum IL-10 and CXCL1 levels were up-regulated (P<0.01, P<0.05, P<0.001), and splenic p-JAK2 protein expressions were down-regulated (P<0.05, P<0.01) in SD and α7nAchR knockout rats, and splenic p-STAT3 protein expression were down-regulated (P<0.05) in SD rats after LPS injection. Following taVNS intervention and in comparison with the model group , the mean speed and active time were increased (P<0.01) and the side immobility time was decreased (P<0.001) in the open field test, serum IL-10 and CXCL1 levels down-regulated (P<0.05), while splenic p-JAK2 and p-STAT3 protein expressions were up-regulated (P<0.01, P<0.001) in the SD taVNS group rather than in the α7 taVNS group. Compared with SD taVNS group, the α7 taVNS group showed increased (P<0.001, P<0.05) side immobility time in the open field test and serum IL-10, decreased splenic p-JAK2 and p-STAT3 protein expressions (P<0.01, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: taVNS may exert anti-inflammatory effects through modulating the splenic α7nAchR/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, thereby ameliorating LPS-induced depressive-like behavior in rats.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on plasma melatonin (MLT) content and insulin receptor expression in the liver, the skeletal muscles, and the pancreas of Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats, so as to explore the hypoglycemic mechanism of taVNS. METHODS: Thirty male ZDF rats were randomly divided into model group, taVNS group and sham-taVNS group, with 10 rats in each group; besides, 10 male Zucker lean rats of the same strain were collected for the blank control group. ZDF rats were fed with high-fat diet to induce type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rat model. In the taVNS group, HANS-100A electroacupuncture instrument was used to stimulate the cavum conchae of both sides. The stimulation sites of rats in the sham-taVNS were the same as the taVNS group, but without electricity delivered. The above interventions were performed 30 min each time, once daily, lasting for 6 weeks. Fasting blood glucose (FBG) was measured weekly in each group, the plasma metatonin (MLT) content was detected by ELISA, and the insulin receptor expression level in the liver, the skeletal muscle and the pancreas was determined by Western blot. RESULTS: Compared with the blank control group, the level of FBG of rats were increased (P<0.01), the plasma MLT content was decreased (P<0.01) and the insulin receptor expression level in the pancreatic tissue was decreased (P<0.01) in the model group. In the taVNS gruop, FBG was decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01), the plasma MLT content was increased (P<0.01), and the insulin receptor expression level in the liver, the skeletal muscle and the pancreas was increased (P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.001) when compared with the model group. Compared with the taVNS group, FBG was increased (P<0.05, P<0.01), the plasma MLT content was decreased (P<0.01), and the expression level of insulin receptors in the skeletal muscle and the pancreas was decreased (P<0.01, P<0.001) in the sham-taVNS group. CONCLUSION: The taVNS can improve the insulin resistance and ultimately obtain the antihyperglycemic effect through regulating MLT concentration.

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a primary cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Unfortunately, there is no approved drug treatment for NASH. AMP-activated kinase (AMPK) is an important metabolic sensor and whole-body regulator. It has been proposed that AMPK activators could be used for treating metabolic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and NASH. In this study, we screened a marine natural compound library by monitoring AMPK activity and found a potent AMPK activator, candidusin A (CHNQD-0803). Further studies showed that CHNQD-0803 directly binds recombinant AMPK with a KD value of 4.728 × 10-8 M and activates AMPK at both molecular and intracellular levels. We then investigated the roles and mechanisms of CHNQD-0803 in PA-induced fat deposition, LPS-stimulated inflammation, TGF-ß-induced fibrosis cell models and the MCD-induced mouse model of NASH. The results showed that CHNQD-0803 inhibited the expression of adipogenesis genes and reduced fat deposition, negatively regulated the NF-κB-TNFα inflammatory axis to suppress inflammation, and ameliorated liver injury and fibrosis. These data indicate that CHNQD-0803 as an AMPK activator is a novel potential therapeutic candidate for NASH treatment. BACKGROUND: Butylphthalide (NBP) and edaravone (EDV) injection are common acute ischemic stroke medications in China, but there is a lack of large real-world safety studies on them. This study aimed to determine the incidence of adverse events, detect relevant safety signals, and assess the risk factors associated with these medications in real-world populations. METHODS: In this study, data of acute ischemic stroke patients were extracted from the electronic medical record database of six tertiary hospitals between January 2019 and August 2021. Baseline confounders were eliminated using propensity score matching. The drugs' safety was estimated by comparing the results of 24 laboratory tests standards on liver function, kidney function, lipid level, and coagulation function. The drugs' relative risk was estimated by logistic regression. A third group with patients who did not receive NBP or EDV was constructed as a reference. Prescription sequence symmetry analysis was used to evaluate the associations between adverse events and NBP and EDV, respectively. RESULTS: 81,292 patients were included in this study. After propensity score matching, the NBP, EDV, and third groups with 727 patients in each group. Among the 15 test items, the incidence of adverse events was lower in the NBP group than in the EDV group, and the differences were statistically significant. The multivariate logistic regression equation revealed that NBP injection was not a promoting factor for abnormal laboratory test results, whereas EDV had statistically significant effects on aspartate transaminase, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol. Prescription sequence symmetry analysis showed that NBP had a weak correlation with abnormal platelet count. EDV had a positive signal associated with abnormal results in gamma-glutamyl transferase, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, prothrombin time, and platelet count. CONCLUSIONS: In a large real-world population, NBP has a lower incidence of adverse events and a better safety profile than EDV or other usual medications.

Background: Acupuncture is widely used as adjuvant therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD). There is robust evidence that inflammation is closely associated with MDD. To date, only a few numbers of studies have investigated the potential relationship between acupuncture and the change of inflammatory biomarkers in patients with MDD. Additionally, the results are inconsistent among studies. The current study aims to provide a comprehensive, systematic review of the association between acupuncture and changes in peripheral inflammation of patients with MDD, and clarify the alterations of inflammatory cytokines before and after acupuncture treatment by meta-analysis. Methods and analysis: This study will be conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting acupuncture, with inflammatory cytokines as the outcome measured before and after intervention in patients with MDD, were searched in electronic databases, such as PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, SINOMED, Wanfang, China national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI), and Chongqing VIP (CQVIP). Primary outcomes of interest will be validated to measure the levels of inflammatory cytokines before and after acupuncture treatment in patients with MDD. Discussion: Acupuncture can drive anti-inflammatory effects, as well as symptom changes in MDD, which may represent a viable, multi-faceted treatment approach in MDD. RESUMO

Non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB) is defined as bleeding proximal to the ligament of Treitz in the absence of varices. As a common clinical problem, NVUGIB entails a heavy burden on the healthcare system. In addition to endoscopic hemostasis, evaluation and treatment before and after endoscopy are also of critical importance for the clinical management of NVUGIB patients. In recent years, based on the rapid development of endoscopic technology and clinical management of NVUGIB, the research evidence and clinical guidelines have been updated internationally, while some clinical decisions remain controversial. In this article, we mainly reviewed and discussed the current status of NVUGIB patient management before, during, and after endoscopy, aiming to deepen the understanding of the disease for clinicians, and to promote standardized management of patients with NVUGIB.

BACKGROUND: Stress-induced neuroinflammation was considered to play a critical role in the pathogenesis of depression. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) is a relatively non-invasive alternative treatment for patients suffering from major depressive disorder. The anti-inflammatory signal of vagus nerve is mediated by α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAchR), and the hippocampus, the region with the most distribution of α7nAchR, regulates emotions. Here, we investigated the role of α7nAchR mediating hippocampal neuroinflammation in taVNS antidepressant effect though homozygous α7nAChR (-/-) gene knockout and α7nAchR antagonist (methyllycaconitine, MLA). METHODS: There were control, model, taVNS, α7nAChR(-/-) + taVNS, hippocampus (Hi) MLA + taVNS and Hi saline + taVNS groups. We used the chronic unpredicted mild stress (CUMS) method to establish depressive model rats for 42 days, excepting control group. After the successful modeling, except the control and model, the rats in the other groups were given taVNS, which was applied through an electroacupuncture apparatus at the auricular concha (2/15 Hz, 2 mA, 30 min/days) for 21 days. Behavioral tests were conducted at baseline, after modeling and after taVNS intervention, including sucrose preference test (SPT), open field test (OFT) and forced swimming test (FST). These tests are widely used to evaluate depression-like behavior in rats. The samples were taken after experiment, the expressions of α7nAchR, NF-κB p65, IL-1ß and the morphology of microglia were detected. RESULTS: Depression-like behavior and hippocampal neuroinflammation in CUMS model rats were manifested by down-regulated expression of α7nAchR, up-regulated expression of NF-κB p65 and IL-1ß, and the morphology of microglia was in amoebic-like activated state. TaVNS could significantly reverse the above-mentioned phenomena, but had rare improvement effect for α7nAChR(-/-) rats and Hi MLA rats. CONCLUSION: The antidepressant effect of taVNS is related to hippocampal α7nAchR/NF-κB signal pathway.

In recent years, soil salinization in the Yellow River Delta under the effects of hydrology, climate and human activities have become increasingly prominent. Based on the 20 Landsat series images of Hekou, Kenli, Dongying districts and Lijin County of Dongying City selected from 1985 to 2018, numerical regression correction method was used to perform image spectral consistency conversion. The partial least squares regression method was used to construct quantitative inversion models of soil salt content. The soil salt content of the study area were retrieved by the best salt prediction model. The temporal and spatial characteristics of soil salt changes in the Yellow River Delta were analyzed. The results showed that the soil salt inversion model constructed with 10 sensitive spectral indices performed higher prediction accuracy, with coefficient of determination R2=0.769 and RMSE=1.125 for calibration, R2=0.752 and RMSE=1.203 for validation, and relative prediction deviation (RPD)=2.08. Using the measured soil salt data in 2016 to verify the inversion accuracy of the model, the correlation between the measured value and the inverted value was 0.7279. The model was used to map the soil salinity of the Yellow River Delta based on 20 images from 1985 to 2018. The abnormal soil salinity retrieval values was all less than 10%. During the study period, the soil salinity showed an overall trend of rising first and then falling which was lowest in 1985 (3.14 g·kg-1) and highest in 1995 (5.86 g·kg-1). Spatially, the area of heavily saline soil and saline soil in the study area decreased, and that of mildly and moderately saline soil significantly increased (66.6%). The total area of saline soil showed an increasing trend. The effects of hydrological and climatic conditions on soil salinity exhibited hysteresis. The increases of temperature promoted soil salinity, with the relationship between the soil salinity and the average temperatures in the past six months and one year being significantly correlated (R=0.507 and 0.538). Soil salinity did not correlate with regional precipitation, and was most affected by the Yellow River streamflow in the previous season (R=-0.543).

Bumblebees play an important role in maintaining the balance of natural and agricultural ecosystems, and the characteristic gut microbiota of bumblebees exhibit significant mutualistic functions. China has the highest diversity of bumblebees; however, gut microbiota of Chinese bumblebees have mostly been investigated through culture-independent studies. Here, we analyzed the gut communities of bumblebees from Sichuan, Yunnan, and Shaanxi provinces in China through 16S ribosomal RNA amplicon sequencing and bacterial isolation. It revealed that the bumblebees examined in this study harbored two gut enterotypes as previously reported: one is dominated by Gilliamella and Snodgrassella, and the other is distinguished by prevalent environmental species. The gut compositions obviously varied among different individual bees. We then isolated 325 bacterial strains and the comparative genomic analysis of Gilliamella strains revealed that galactose and pectin digestion pathways were conserved in strains from bumblebees, while genes for the utilization of arabinose, mannose, xylose, and rhamnose were mostly lost. Only two strains from the Chinese bumblebees possess the multidrug-resistant gene emrB, which is phylogenetically closely related to that from the symbionts of soil entomopathogenic nematode. In contrast, tetracycline-resistant genes were uniquely present in three strains from the USA. Our results illustrate the prevalence of strain-level variations in the metabolic potentials and the distributions of antibiotic-resistant genes in Chinese bumblebee gut bacteria.

Rapid characterization of chemical analogues in potentially toxic complex matrix was essential for prevention of accidental poisoning. On the basis of the fragment ions possessed not only the same retention times (RT) but the same drift times (DT) on liquid chromatography-ion mobility-mass spectrometry (LC-IM-MS), an alternating frames (AF)-data independent acquisition (DIA) was utilized for simultaneous detection and rapid match of precursor/product ions with a fast switch of low/high collision energy (CE). A diagnostic ions guided 2D-locating strategy was developed for identification of chemical analogues in potentially toxic herbal medicines using LC-IM-MS. Firstly, the 2D-locations (RT, DT) of diagnostic ions were screened from high-fragment IM-MS frames according to their m/z. Then, the correlated precursor ions were extracted from the complex background interference in low-fragment IM-MS frames based on diagnostic ions' 2D-locations. Finally, the remained ions were characterized using double-bond equivalent analysis combined with MS/MS fragment interpretation. Totally, 236 diterpene alkaloids including eight compounds with potential new esterification types were characterized in processed lateral roots of Aconitum carmichaelii Debx. Moreover, the LC-IM-MS distribution regularities of diterpene alkaloids with various chemical structure types were further investigated and discussed. This study presented an innovative idea for revealing the chemical basis related to the toxicities of potentially poisonous herbal medicines to ensure the medication safety.

RESUMO

Whether in the West or the East, the connection between the ear and the rest of the body has been explored for a long time. Especially in the past century or more, the relevant theoretical and applied research on the ear has greatly promoted the development of ear therapy, and finally the concept of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) has been proposed. The purpose of taVNS is to treat a disease non-invasively by applying electrical current to the cutaneous receptive field formed by the auricular branch of the vagus nerve in the outer ear. In the past two decades, taVNS has been a topic of basic, clinical, and transformation research. It has been applied as an alternative to drug treatment for a variety of diseases. Based on the rapid understanding of the application of taVNS to human health and disease, some limitations in the development of this field have also been gradually exposed. Here, we comprehensively review the origin and research status of the field.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on blood glucose regulation and the expression of insulin receptors (INR) of hypothalamus, liver and skeletal muscle tissues in impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) rats, so as to reveal its mechanisms underlying improvement of IGT. METHODS: Thirty-six male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control, model, transcutaneous auricular none-vagus nerve stimulation (tnVNS), and taVNS groups (n=9 in each group). The IGT model was established by feeding the rats with high-fat and high-sugar diet for 5 weeks, and subsequent intraperitoneal injection of a dose of streptozotocin (20 mg/kg). Transcutaneous electrostimulation (2 mA, 2 Hz/15 Hz) was applied to auricular concha (taVNS) or auricular margin (tnVNS), respectively. The treatment was conducted for 30 min once daily for 4 weeks. The body weight, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2 h plasma glucose (2 h PG) were recorded every week. The contents of plasma insulin (INS), glucagon (GC), glycosylated hemoglobin (GHbA1c) were detected by using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression levels of INR in hypothalamus, liver and skeletal muscle tissues were detected by Western blot. RESULTS: After modeling, the rats' body weight, the contents of FPG, 2 h PG, GC and GHbA1c were significantly up-regulated (P<0.001, P<0.05, P<0.01), and the content of INS and expression of INR in hypothalamus, liver and skeletal muscle tissues were significantly down-regulated in the model group compared with the control group (P<0.001, P<0.01, P<0.05). Following the treatment, the increased FPG, 2 h PG, GC, and the decreased INS and INR expression of hypothalamus, liver and skeletal muscle tissues were apparently reversed in the taVNS group relevant to the model group (P<0.001, P<0.01, P<0.05). Compared with the tnVNS group, the FPG and 2 h PG contents were considerable decreased, and the content of INS and INR expression of hypothalamus and liver were obviously increased in the taVNS group (P<0.001, P<0.05, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: taVNS can improve the blood glucose and insulin sensitivity in IGT rats, which may contribute to its effectiveness in up-regulating the expression of INR in hypothalamus, liver and skeletal muscle tissues.

We used exogenous GA_3 to break the seed dormancy of Thesium chinense. We used high-throughput sequencing technology was used to sequence the transcriptome of dormant seed embryos and dormancy breaking seed embryos of Th. chinense, and the data was analyzed bioinformatically and systematically. The results showed that exogenous GA_3 could effectively break the seed dormancy of Th. chinense; 73 794 up-regulated genes and 42 776 down regulated genes were obtained by transcriptome sequencing; 116 570 diffe-rential genes were annotated by GO function to GO items such as metabolism process, cell process, cell, cell component, binding and catalytic activity. A total of 133 metabolic pathways were found by Pathway analysis of 26 508 differentially expressed genes. In the process of dormancy release, DEGs were mainly enriched in translation, carbohydrate metabolism, folding, classification, degradation and amino acid metabolism. Based on the annotation results in KEGG database, 20 metabolic pathways related to dormancy release were found. Dormancy release of Th. chinense seeds is a complex biological process, including cell morphology construction, secondary metabolite synthesis, sugar metabolism and plant signal transduction, among which plant hormone signal transduction is one of the key factors to regulate dormancy release. The results of qRT-PCR showed that the sequencing results were consistent with the actual results.

The study aims at exploring the expression of differential genes and related metabolic pathways in the process of seed dormancy release. The dormant embryo and the dormant released embryo of Paris polyphylla var. chinensis were used as the test materials, a new generation high-throughput sequencing methods to sequence the transcriptome of the samples was used to carry out systematic bioinformatics analysis. We obtained 62 882 650 and 62 263 366 clean reads from the DNA libraries of the samples before and after dormancy breaking. A total of 69 248 differentially expressed genes(DEGs) were obtained, 56 426 up-regulated genes and 12 822 down-regulated genes. There are 138 267 differentially expressed genes in the process of embryo dormancy release, which were annotated by GO function to 58 subclasses of biological processes, molecular functions and cell components. The annotated differentially expressed genes were closely related to metabolic processes, biological regulation, cell component synthesis and enzyme catalytic activity. We found 139 metabolic pathways through pathway analysis of 58 722 differentially expressed genes. Before and after dormancy, DEGs were mainly enriched in carbon metabolism, secondary metabolite biosynthesis and polysaccharide metabolism. Based on the annotation results in KEGG database, we found 16 metabolic pathways related to the dormancy release of P. polyhoylla var. chinensis. A large number of differentially expressed genes were involved in embryo morphogenesis, polysaccharide decomposition and protein synthesis during seed development and dormancy release. It involves the interaction of multiple metabolic pathways and constitutes a complex regulation network for dormancy relief.

OBJECTIVE: To review the current situation of researches on auricular acupuncture treatment for obesity by using bibliometric analysis, so as to provide a reference for clinical application and experimental research in the future. METHODS: Articles written in both Chinese and English and published from the time of establishment of the following databases were collected from databases of CNKI, Wanfang, PubMed and Web of Science by using key words of "otopoint sticking" "otopoint seed-pres-sing" "auriculotherapy" "ear/auricular acupuncture" "auricular pressure" "auricular-plaster therapy" "acupuncture and auricular pressure" "auriculopressure" "transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS)" "obesity" "adiposity" "adiposis" and "fatty". The articles met our inclusive criteria were analyzed for summarizing their publication years, involved journals, research organizations and selected acupoints. RESULTS: A total of 61 qualified Chinese and 44 English articles were retrieved and published in 45 and 25 journals, respectively. The commonly-used acupoints are "Endocrine" "Stomach" "Spleen" "Shenmen" "Hunger point" "Sanjiao" "Lung" and "Subcortex". The employed auricular acupoint therapy mainly includes auricular acupressure, ear acupuncture, auricular vagus nerve stimulation, and auricular laser radiation. CONCLUSION: Current clinical literature on auricular acupuncture treatment of obesity is relatively lower in quality. Thus, strict research protocols and randomized controlled clinical trials with multiple centers and larger samples are definitely necessary for providing reliable evidence for clinical treatment of obesity by using auricular acupuncture therapy.

Several experimental studies have proved that activation of neuroinflammation pathways may contribute to the development of depression, a neuropsychiatric disorder disease. Our previous studies have shown the antidepressant properties of apelin, but the mechanism was unkown. This study was performed to verify whether the antidepressant effect of apelin was related to its anti-inflammation effect in the central nervous system. To achieve our aim, we selected the co-treatment of chronic stress and LPS to induced an inflammatory process in rats. The effect of this co-treatment was evaluated through the expression of inflammatory markers and glial cell activation. LPS injection co-treated with unpredictable chronic mild stress resulted in the activation of microglial cell and astrocyte, expression of inflammatory markers and depressive behaviors. Treatment with apelin significantly attenuates the deleterious effects in these rats. Our results showed that apelin improved depressive phenotype and decreased the activation of glial cells in stress co-treatment group. The down-regulations of p-NF-κB and p-IKKß suggested that the effects are possibly mediated by inhibition of the NF-κB-mediated inflammatory response. These findings speculated that intracerebroventricular injection of apelin could be a therapeutic approach for the treatment of depression, and the antidepressant function of apelin may closely associated with its alleviation in neuroinflammation.

A 2D coordination polymer prepared with bulky diethylformamide solvates exhibits channels which allow dipyridyl bridging ligands to diffuse into the crystal lattice. The absorbed dipyridyls thread through the pores of one layer and substitute the surface diethylformamide molecules on the neighboring layers to stitch alternate layers to form flexible interpenetrated metal-orgaic frameworks. The threading process also results in exchange of the bulky diethylformamide solvates for aqua to minimize congestion and, more strikingly, forces the slippage of two-dimensional layers, while still maintaining crystallinity.
