RESUMO

The processing of multicolor noisy images in visual neuromorphic devices requires selective absorption at specific wavelengths; however, it is difficult to achieve this because the spectral absorption range of the device is affected by the type of material. Surprisingly, the absorption range of perovskite materials can be adjusted by doping. Herein, a CdCl2 co-doped CsPbBr3 nanocrystal-based photosensitive synaptic transistor (PST) is reported. By decreasing the doping concentration, the response of the PST to short-wavelength light is gradually enhanced, and even weak light of 40 µW·cm-2 can be detected. Benefiting from the excellent color selectivity of the PST device, the device array is applied to feature extraction of target blue items and removal of red and green noise, which results in the recognition accuracy of 95% for the noisy MNIST data set. This work provides new ideas for the application of novel transistors integrating sensors and storage computing.

This brief designs a distributed stochastic annealing algorithm for nonconvex cooperative aggregative games, whose players' cost functions not only depend on players' own decision variables but also rely on the sum of players' decision variables. To seek the social optimum of cooperative aggregative games, a distributed stochastic annealing algorithm is proposed, where the local cost functions are nonconvex and the communication topology between players is time-varying. The weak convergence to the social optimum of the algorithm is further analyzed. A numerical example is finally given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Marine bacterial proteases have rarely been used to produce bioactive peptides, although many have been reported. This study aims to evaluate the potential of the marine bacterial metalloprotease A69 from recombinant Bacillus subtilis in the preparation of peanut peptides (PPs) with antioxidant activity and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory activity. Based on the optimization of the hydrolysis parameters of protease A69, a process for PPs preparation was set up in which the peanut protein was hydrolyzed by A69 at 3000 U g-1 and 60 °C, pH 7.0 for 4 h. The prepared PPs exhibited a high content of peptides with molecular weights lower than 1000 Da (>80%) and 3000 Da (>95%) and contained 17 kinds of amino acids. Moreover, the PPs displayed elevated scavenging of hydroxyl radical and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl radical, with IC50 values of 1.50 mg mL-1 and 1.66 mg mL-1, respectively, indicating the good antioxidant activity of the PPs. The PPs also showed remarkable ACE-inhibitory activity, with an IC50 value of 0.71 mg mL-1. By liquid chromatography mass spectrometry analysis, the sequences of 19 ACE inhibitory peptides and 15 antioxidant peptides were identified from the PPs. These results indicate that the prepared PPs have a good nutritional value, as well as good antioxidant and antihypertensive effects, and that the marine bacterial metalloprotease A69 has promising potential in relation to the preparation of bioactive peptides from peanut protein.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Xiaoer Niuhuang Qingxin Powder (XNQP) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine formula with significant clinical efficacy for treating febrile convulsions and influenza. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aims to explore the potential mechanisms of XNQP in combating combating the influenza A virus, providing a theoretical basis for its clinical application. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present investigation employed network pharmacology and bioinformatics analysis to determine the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway as a viable target for XNQP intervention in IAV infection.Subsequently, a mouse model of influenza A virus infection was established, and different doses of XNQP were used for intervention. The protein expression levels of TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB were detected using HE staining, Elisa, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and western blot. RESULTS: The results showed that treatment with XNQP after IAV infection reduced the mortality and prolonged the survival time of infected mice. It reduced the release of TNF-α and IFN-γ in the serum and alleviated pathological damage in the lung tissue following infection. Additionally, the levels of TLR4, MyD88, NF-κB, and p-NF-κB P65 proteins were significantly reduced in lung tissue by XNQP. The inhibitory effect of XNQP on the expression of MyD88 and NF-κB was antagonized when TLR4 signaling was overexpressed. Consequently, the expression levels of MyD88, NF-κB, and p-NF-κB P65 were increased in lung tissue. Conversely, the expression levels of the proteins MyD88, NF-κB, and p-NF-κB P65 were downregulated when TLR4 signaling was inhibited. CONCLUSIONS: XNQP alleviated lung pathological changes, reduced serum levels of inflammatory factors, reduced mortality, and prolonged survival time in mice by inhibiting the overexpression of the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway in lung tissues after IAV infection.

This meta-analysis compared the effectiveness of different energy-restricted diets on body composition, glucose metabolism, and lipid metabolism in overweight and obese populations. Five databases were searched to identify relevant studies in English from inception until July 20, 2023, for randomized controlled trials of at least 2 weeks duration assessing the effects of continuous energy-restricted diets compared with any intermittent energy-restricted diet in obesity adults. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool version 2.0, while the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) system was used to assess the certainty of the evidence. A non-informative prior distribution Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted. Thirty-eight studies (3039 participants) assessing four energy-restricted diets were included. Three RCTs were at high risk of bias with a very low to moderate certainty of evidence. Combined with pairwise comparisons and surface under the cumulative ranking curve, alternate-day fasting may be the best energy restriction regimen with the potential to have the most beneficial effects on various aspects of the obesity population. More rigorously designed and long-term follow-up studies are warranted.

Metal halide perovskite films have gained significant attention because of their remarkable optoelectronic performances. However, their poor stability upon the severe environment appears to be one of the main facets that impedes their further commercial applications. Herein, a method to improve the stability of flexible photodetectors under water and humidity environment without encapsulation is reported. The devices are fabricated using the physical vapor deposition method (Pulse Laser Deposition & Thermal Evaporation) under high-vacuum conditions. An amorphous organic Rubrene film with low molecular polarity and high elastic modulus serves as both a protective layer and hole transport layer. After immersed in water for 6000 min, the photoluminescence intensity attenuation of films only decreased by a maximum of 10%. The demonstrator device, based on Rubrene/CsPbBr3/ZnO heterojunction confirms that the strategy not only enhances device moisture and mechanical stability but also achieves high sensitivity in optoelectronic detection. In self-powered mode, it has a fast response time of 79.4 µs /207.6 µs and a responsivity 124 mA W-1. Additionally, the absence of encapsulation simplifies the fabrication of complex electrodes, making it suitable for various applications. This study highlights the potential use of amorphous organic films in improving the stability of perovskite-based flexible devices.

Influenza A viruses (IAV) are a prevalent respiratory pathogen that can cause seasonal flu and global pandemics, posing a significant global public health threat. Emerging research suggests that IAV infections may disrupt the balance of gut microbiota, while gut dysbiosis can affect disease progression in IAV patients. Therefore, restoring gut microbiota balance may represent a promising therapeutic target for IAV infections. Traditional Chinese medicine, with its ability to regulate gut microbiota, offers significant potential in preventing and treating IAV. This article provides a comprehensive review of the relationship between IAV and gut microbiota, highlighting the impact of gut microbiota on IAV infections. It also explores the mechanisms and role of traditional Chinese medicine in regulating gut microbiota for the prevention and treatment of IAV, presenting novel research avenues for traditional Chinese medicine-based IAV treatments.

Zero-shot Neural Architecture Search has garnered attention due to its training-free nature and rapid search speed. However, existing zero-shot estimators commonly suffer from low consistency, which hampers their practicality. In this work, we theoretically analyze that network generalization and convergence are highly correlated with Sweet Gradient of Parameter, i.e., the number of parameters whose gradient absolute values are within a certain interval. Empirical results indicate that Sweet Gradient of Parameter brings a higher consistency than the overall number of parameters. Additionally, we demonstrate a positive correlation between the network depth and the proportion of parameters with sweet gradients in each layer. Based on the analysis, we propose a training-free method to find the Sweet Gradient interval and obtain an estimator, named Sweetimator. Furthermore, Sweet Gradient can be an effective and general approach to promote the consistency of zero-shot estimators. Experiments show that Sweetimator and Sweet-enhanced estimators have significant consistency improvement in multiple benchmarks. Our method achieves state-of-the-art performance with 256x speedup in NAS-Bench-201 and maintains high competitiveness in DARTS, MobileNet, and Transformer search spaces. The syndrome of dampness stagnancy due to spleen deficiency (DSSD) is relatively common globally. Although the pathogenesis of DSSD remains unclear, evidence has suggested that the gut microbiota might play a significant role. Radix Astragali, used as both medicine and food, exerts the effects of tonifying spleen and qi. Astragalus polysaccharide (APS) comprises a macromolecule substance extracted from the dried root of Radix Astragali, which has many pharmacological functions. However, whether APS mitigates the immune disorders underlying the DSSD syndrome via regulating gut microbiota and the relevant mechanism remains unknown. Here, we used DSSD rats induced by high-fat and low-protein (HFLP) diet plus exhaustive swimming, and found that APS of moderate molecular weight increased the body weight gain and immune organ indexes, decreased the levels of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), IL-6, and endotoxin, and suppressed the Toll-like receptor 4/nuclear factor-|κB (TLR4/NF-|κB) pathway. Moreover, a total of 27 critical genera were significantly enriched according to the linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe). APS increased the diversity of the gut microbiota and changed its composition, such as reducing the relative abundance of Pseudoflavonifractor and Paraprevotella, and increasing that of Parasutterella, Parabacteroides, Clostridium XIVb, Oscillibacter, Butyricicoccus, and Dorea. APS also elevated the contents of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Furthermore, the correlation analysis indicated that 12 critical bacteria were related to the body weight gain and immune organ indexes. In general, our study demonstrated that APS ameliorated the immune disorders in DSSD rats via modulating their gut microbiota, especially for some bacteria involving immune and inflammatory response and SCFA production, as well as the TLR4/NF-κB pathway. This study provides an insight into the function of APS as a unique potential prebiotic through exerting systemic activities in treating DSSD.

BACKGROUND: Marine bacteria secrete a variety of proteases, which are a good source to explore proteases with application value. However, only a few marine bacterial proteases with a potential in bioactive peptides preparation have been reported. RESULTS: The metalloprotease A69 from the marine bacterium Anoxybacillus caldiproteolyticus 1A02591 was successfully expressed in the food safe bacterium Bacillus subtilis as a secreted enzyme. A technique to efficiently produce protease A69 in a 15-L bioreactor was established, with a production of 8988 U mL-1 . Based on optimizing the hydrolysis parameters of A69 on soybean protein, a process for soybean protein peptides (SPs) preparation was set up, in which soybean protein was hydrolyzed by A69 at 4000 U g-1 and 60 °C for 3 h. The prepared SPs had a high content (> 90%) of peptides with a molecular mass less than 3000 Da and contained 18 amino acids. The prepared SPs showed high angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory activity, with an IC50 value of 0.135 mg mL-1 . Moreover, three ACE-inhibitory peptides, RPSYT, VLIVP and LAIPVNKP, were identified from the SPs using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. CONCLUSION: The marine bacterial metalloprotease A69 has a promising potential for preparing SPs with good nutritional and potential antihypertensive effects, laying a good foundation for its industrial production and application. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Two-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites have attracted a lot of attention due to their unique photochemical properties and enhanced stability towards photoluminescence devices. Compared with three-dimensional materials, two-dimensional perovskites show great potential for photoelectric applications due to their tunable band gap, great excitation binding energy, and large crystal anisotropy. Although the synthesis and optical properties of BA2PbI4 crystals have been extensively studied, the role of their microstructure in photoelectric applications, their electronic structure, and their electron-phonon interaction are still poorly understood. In this paper, based on the preparation of BA2PbI4 crystals, the electronic structure, phonon dispersion, and vibrational properties of BA2PbI4 crystals were revealed in detail with the help of density functional theory. The BA2PbI4 stability diagram of formation enthalpy was calculated. The crystal structure of the BA2PbI4 crystals was characterized and calculated with the aid of Rietveld refinement. A contactless fixed-point lighting device was designed based on the principle of an electromagnetic induction coil, and the points with different thicknesses of BA2PbI4 crystal were tested. It is proved that the excitation peak of the bulk is 564 nm, and the surface luminescence peak is 520 nm. Phonon dispersion curves and the total and partial phonon densities of states have been calculated for the BA2PbI4 crystals. The calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental Fourier infrared spectra. Besides the basic characterization of the BA2PbI4 crystals, the photoelectrochemical properties of the materials were also studied, which further proves the excellent photoelectric properties of the BA2PbI4 crystals and the broad application prospect.

Collagen oligopeptides have wide applications in foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and others due to their high bioactivities and bioavailability. The S8 family is the second-largest family of serine proteases. Several collagenolytic proteases from this family have been reported to have good potential in the preparation of collagen oligopeptides, however, the underlying mechanism remains unknown. A4095 was the most abundant S8 protease secreted by the protease-producing bacterium Anoxybacillus caldiproteolyticus 1A02591. Here, we characterized A4095 as an S8 collagenolytic protease and illustrated its structural basis to produce collagen oligopeptides. Protease A4095 preferentially hydrolyzed the Y-Gly peptide bonds in denatured bovine bone collagen, leading to high production (62.48% <1000 Da) of collagen oligopeptides. Structural and mutational analyses indicated that A4095 has a unique S1' substrate-binding pocket to preferentially bind Gly, which is the structural determinant for the high production of collagen oligopeptides. This study provides mechanistic insight into the advantage of the S8 collagenolytic proteases in preparing collagen oligopeptides.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To investigate and analyse the prevalence of depression among patients with lung cancer, identify risk factors of depression, and develop a visual, non-invasive, and straightforward clinical prediction model that can be used to predict the risk probability of depression in patients with lung cancer quantitatively. BACKGROUND: Depression is one of the common concomitant symptoms of patients with lung cancer, which can increase the risk of suicide. However, the current assessment tools cannot combine multiple risk factors to predict the risk probability of depression in patients. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. METHODS: The clinical data from 297 patients with lung cancer in China were collected and analysed in this cross-sectional study. The clinical prediction model was constructed according to the results of the Chi-square test and the logistic regression analysis, evaluated by discrimination, calibration, and decision curve analysis, and visualised by a nomogram. This study was reported using the TRIPOD checklist. RESULTS: 130 patients with lung cancer had depressive symptoms with a prevalence of 43.77%. A visual prediction model was constructed based on age, disease duration, exercise, stigma, and resilience. This model showed good discrimination at an AUC of 0.842. Calibration curve analysis indicated a good agreement between experimental and predicted values, and the decision curve analysis showed a high clinical utility. CONCLUSIONS: The visual prediction model developed in this study has excellent performance, which can accurately predict the occurrence of depression in patients with lung cancer at an early stage and assist the medical staff in taking targeted preventative measures. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: The visual, non-invasive, and simple nomogram can help clinical medical staff to calculate the risk probability of depression among patients with lung cancer, formulate personalised preventive care measures for high-risk groups as soon as possible, and improve the quality of life of patients.

The accumulating evidence revealed that gut microbiota plays an important role in pathological process of disease including obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, heart failure, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Polysaccharides extracted from Chinese medicine (CM) can not only alleviate pathological status but also promote health by anti-inflammatory, regulating immunity, lowering blood glucose and lipids, anti-cancer, and anti-oxidation. The alterations of gut microbiota composition and metabolism pathways are the potential mechanisms of CM polysaccharides treatment. In addition, they exert functions through gut-organ axis or play an indirect role by synergistic actions with other drugs or components mediated by gut microbiota. This review summarizes the molecular mechanisms of CM polysaccharides interacted with intestinal microbial inhabitants as potential prebiotics for promoting health.

Background: Preterm infants are at risk for severe infections due to their immature immune systems. Factors such as early life pain/stress experiences and feeding may influence immune activation and maturation of immune systems. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Fecal calprotectin (FCP) is a noninvasive surrogate biomarker of mucosal inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract and has been used in detecting intestinal inflammation in specific pediatric gastrointestinal disorders. Objective: To describe the longitudinal trajectory of FCP levels in preterm infants and investigate the contributing factors that are associated with FCP levels. Design: A longitudinal study design was used. Settings: Preterm infants were recruited from 2 neonatal intensive care units (NICU) of a children's medical center in the North-eastern US. Methods: Preterm infants were followed during their first 4 weeks of NICU hospitalization. Stool samples were collected twice per week to quantify the FCP levels. Cumulative pain/stress experiences and feeding types were measured daily. A linear mixed-effect model was used to examine the associations between FCP levels and demographic and clinical characteristics, cumulative pain/stress, and feeding over time. Results: Forty-nine preterm infants were included in the study. Infants' FCP levels varied largely with a mean of 268.7±261.3 µg/g and increased over time. Preterm infants experienced an average of 7.5±5.0 acute painful procedures and 15.3±20.8 hours of chronic painful procedures per day during their NICU stay. The mean percentage of mother's own milk increased from the first week (57.1±36.5%) to the fourth week (60.7±38.9%) after birth. Elevated FCP concentration was associated with acute and cumulative (chronic) pain/stress levels, mother's own milk, non-White race, and higher severity of illness score. Conclusions: FCP levels were elevated in preterm infants with wide interindividual and intraindividual variations. Cumulative pain/stress during the NICU hospitalization, feeding, race, and health status may influence FCP concentrations in early life that may be associated with inflammatory gut processes.

Aside from inhibiting insect metamorphosis, juvenile hormone (JH) has a well-known role in stimulating various aspects of insect reproduction. Replication protein A (RPA), a heterotrimeric complex comprised of RPA1, RPA2 and RPA3 subunits plays an essential role in DNA replication and DNA repair. Here we report that RPAs are highly expressed in the fat body of adult female locust, Locusta migratoria. While RPA1 is upregulated by the JH receptor Methoprene-tolerant (Met), RPA2 and RPA3 expression appears to be primarily controlled by Forkhead box O transcription factor (FoxO). Knockdown of RPA1, RPA2 or RPA3 results in markedly reducd vitellogenin (Vg) expression in the fat body, accompanied by arrested ovarian growth and inhibited oocyte maturation. In addition, depletion of an RPA subunit leads to increased expression of other RPA subunits as well as a pro-apoptotic gene, Smac that is involved in DNA repair and apoptosis. The data indicate a crucial role of RPAs in JH-dependent vitellogenesis and oocyte maturation.

CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br or I) perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have gained increasing interest due to their superior performance in photoelectric applications. In our work, a series of Mn2+ doped CsPbBr3 PQDs were successfully prepared in glasses by melt quenching and in situ crystallization technique. Due to the 4T1 (4G)→6A1 (6S) transition of Mn2+, a slight red shift from 510 nm to 516 nm was found, with the FWHM expansion from 18 nm to 26 nm. The PQDs@glasses showed excellent thermal stability, and the exciton binding energy reached a high level of 412 meV. The changes of the electronic structure after Mn doping CsPbBr3 can be demonstrated by first principles. Finally, a contactless electroluminescence device with the PQDs@glasses was designed based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, which is a potential application for detecting distance in sterile and dust-free environments.

Autonomous posture detection and self-localization of roadheaders is the key to automatic tunneling and roadheader robotization. In this paper, a multi-sensor based positioning method, involving an inertial system for altitude angles measurement, total station for coordinate measurement, and sensors for measuring the real-time length of the hydraulic cylinder is presented for roadheader position measurement and posture detection. Based on this method, a positioning model for roadheader and cutter positioning is developed. Additionally, flexible trajectory planning methods are provided for automatic cutting. Based on the positioning model and the trajectory planning methods, an automatic cutting procedure is proposed and applied in practical tunneling. The experimental results verify the high accuracy and efficiency of both the positioning method and the model. Furthermore, it is indicated that arbitrary shapes can be generated automatically and precisely according to the planned trajectory, employing the automatic cutting procedure. Therefore, unmanned tunneling can be realized by employing the proposed automatic cutting process.

With the diversity of modern dietary lifestyles, digestive system disorders (DSD) have become a frequently occurring disease in recent years. Astragalus polysaccharide (APS) is a homogeneous polysaccharide extracted from Astragalus, which might ameliorate the digestive and absorptive functions. However, the treatment mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, rats with DSD were fed a high-fat⁻low-protein diet and subjected to weight-bearing swimming until exhaustion. When body weight and autonomous activities of the rats decreased, they were administered APS. After two weeks, serum metabolomics analysis based on LC-MS was performed to validate the therapeutic effect of APS and explore its mechanism. APS pharmacodynamics was determined in this study, and serum metabolomics analysis discovered and identified 16 significant, differentially produced metabolites involved in energy, amino acid, and lipid metabolism, including citric acid, lactic acid, alanine, phosphatidylcholine, phenylalanine. After treatment with APS, the levels of the above small-molecule metabolites were reversed. Our results show the efficacy of APS in DSD treatment through the regulation of perturbed metabolic pathways related to energy, amino acid, and lipid metabolism.

BACKGROUND: Coix seed has the functions of fortifying the spleen and inhibiting the dampness. However, it remains unclear which Coix seed compositions is responsible for these functions. Previous investigations have revealed that the main compositions of Coix seed are proteins, polysaccharides, oils and starches. The objectives of this study are to explore which is the most effective compositions in fortifying the spleen and examine how Coix seed works in regulating the water transport on the spleen deficiency and wet dampness (SDWD) rat model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The rats used were divided into (i) control group, (ii) model group, (iii) decoction group, (iv) protein group, (v) polysaccharide group, (vi) oil group and (vii) starch group. The urine volume, the drinking volume and the water loading index in each group were calculated. Agilent 8*60K array was used for microarray-based gene expression analysis. The differential mRNAs related to the transport activity were screened. qRT-PCR was used to validate the mRNA microarray. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that all treatment groups could decrease the dampness of SDWD rats. mRNA microarray had significant effect on the protein group and the polysaccharide group in regulating the water transport, among which the most significant mRNA was Fabp6, Slc51a, Slc51b, Slc11a2, Slc4a10 and AQP3 respectively. CONCLUSION: The compositions of proteins and polysaccharides had the most significant effect in regulating the water transport of SDWD rat model. The contributing mRNA focused on Fabp, Slc and AQP family.
