RESUMO

Background: Due to the variations in surgical approaches and prognosis between intraspinal schwannomas and meningiomas, it is crucial to accurately differentiate between the two prior to surgery. Currently, there is limited research exploring the implementation of machine learning (ML) methods for distinguishing between these two types of tumors. This study aimed to establish a classification and regression tree (CART) model and a random forest (RF) model for distinguishing schwannomas from meningiomas. Methods: We retrospectively collected 88 schwannomas (52 males and 36 females) and 51 meningiomas (10 males and 41 females) who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations prior to the surgery. Simple clinical data and MRI imaging features, including age, sex, tumor location and size, T1-weighted images (T1WI) and T2-weighted images (T2WI) signal characteristics, degree and pattern of enhancement, dural tail sign, ginkgo leaf sign, and intervertebral foramen widening (IFW), were reviewed. Finally, a CART model and RF model were established based on the aforementioned features to evaluate their effectiveness in differentiating between the two types of tumors. Meanwhile, we also compared the performance of the ML models to the radiologists. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) were used to evaluate the models and clinicians' discrimination performance. Results: Our investigation reveals significant variations in ten out of 11 variables in the training group and five out of 11 variables in the test group when comparing schwannomas and meningiomas (P<0.05). Ultimately, the CART model incorporated five variables: enhancement pattern, the presence of IFW, tumor location, maximum diameter, and T2WI signal intensity (SI). The RF model combined all 11 variables. The CART model, RF model, radiologist 1, and radiologist 2 achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.890, 0.956, 0.681, and 0.723 in the training group, and 0.838, 0.922, 0.580, and 0.659 in the test group, respectively. Conclusions: The RF prediction model exhibits more exceptional performance than an experienced radiologist in discriminating intraspinal schwannomas from meningiomas. The RF model seems to be better in discriminating the two tumors than the CART model.

PURPOSE: To examine the relationship between hyperdense artery sign/susceptibility vessel sign (HAS/SVS) and thrombus composition, and evaluate the effect of HAS/SVS status on the association between first-line thrombectomy techniques and outcomes in patients with acute anterior-circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO). MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2018 to June 2021, 103 consecutive acute anterior-circulation LVO patients (75 [63.1%] male; median age, 66 years) who underwent thrombectomy, and for whom the removed clot was available for histological analyses were retrospectively reviewed. The presence of HAS and SVS was respectively assessed in noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT) and susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI). Association of first-line thrombectomy techniques [stent retriever combined with contact aspiration (SR+CA) versus contact aspiration (CA)] with outcomes was assessed by the HAS/SVS status. RESULTS: Among the included patients, 55 (53.4%) were HAS/SVS(-), and 69 (67.0%) chose first-line SR+CA. Higher relative densities of fibrin/platelets (0.56 vs. 0.51, p<0.001) and lower relative densities of erythrocytes (0.32 vs. 0.42, p<0.001) were observed in HAS/SVS(-) than HAS/SVS(+) patients. First-line SR+CA was associated with reduced odds of distal embolization (aOR, 0.18; 95% CI, 0.04-0.83; p=0.027) and a more favorable 90-day functional outcome (aOR, 5.29; 95% CI, 1.06-26.34; p=0.042) in HAS/SVS(-) patients, and a longer recanalization time (53 min vs. 25 min, p=0.025) and higher risk of subarachnoid hemorrhage (24.2% vs. 0%, p=0.044) in HAS/SVS(+) patients. CONCLUSIONS: HAS/SVS(-) may indicate a higher density of fibrin/platelets in the thrombus, and first-line SR+CA may have a possible better performance than CA in acute LVO patients without HAS/SVS.

We report that constructed Au nanoclusters (NCs) can afford amazing white emission synergistically dictated by the Au(0)-dominated core-state fluorescence and Au(I)-governed surface-state phosphorescence, with record-high absolute quantum yields of 42.1% and 53.6% in the aqueous solution and powder state, respectively. Moreover, the dynamic color tuning is achieved in a wide warm-to-cold white-light range (with the correlated color temperature varied from 3426 to 24 973 K) by elaborately manipulating the ratio of Au(0) to Au(I) species and thus the electron transfer rate from staple motif to metal kernel. This study not only exemplifies the successful integration of multiple luminescent centers into metal NCs to accomplish efficient white-light emission but also inspires a feasible pathway toward customizing the optical properties of metal NCs by regulating electron transfer kinetics.

Purpose To compare the tissue adequacy and diagnostic accuracy of US-guided biopsies of peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs) with and without contrast agents. Materials and Methods A retrospective study was conducted at four medical centers in patients with PPLs who underwent US-guided percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy (PTNB) between January 2017 and October 2022. The patients were divided into contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) and US groups based on whether prebiopsy CEUS evaluation was performed. Tissue adequacy and the diagnostic accuracy of PTNB, stratified by lesion size, were analyzed and compared between groups. A propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was conducted using the nearest-neighbor matching method. Results A total of 1027 lesions were analyzed, with 634 patients (mean age, 59.4 years ± 13.0 [SD]; 413 male) in the US group and 393 patients (mean age, 61.2 years ± 12.5; 270 male) in the CEUS group. The CEUS group produced more acceptable samples than the US group (98.2% vs 95.7%; P = .03) and achieved higher diagnostic accuracy (96.9% vs 94.2%; P = .04), with no evidence of a difference in sensitivity (96.7% vs 94.0%; P = .06). PSM and stratified analyses (n = 358 per group) indicated higher tissue adequacy (99.0% vs 95.7%; P = .04) and diagnostic accuracy (98.5% vs 92.9%; P = .006) in the CEUS group compared with the US group for 2-7-cm PPLs but not for lesions larger than 7 cm. Conclusion PTNB with prebiopsy CEUS evaluation demonstrated significantly better tissue adequacy and diagnostic accuracy compared with US guidance alone for PPLs ranging from 2 to 7 cm, with similar biopsy performance achieved between groups for lesions larger than 7 cm. Owing to the separation of field-effect transistor (FET) devices from sensing environments, extended-gate FET (EGFET) biosensor features high stability and low cost. Herein, a highly sensitive EGFET biosensor based on a GaN micropillar array and polycrystalline layer (GMP) was fabricated, which was prepared by using simple one-step low-temperature MOCVD growth. In order to improve the sensitivity and detection limit of EGFET biosensor, the surface area and the electrical conductivity of extended-gate electrode can be increased by the micropillar array and the polycrystalline layer, respectively. The designed GMP-EGFET biosensor was modified with l-cysteine and applied for Hg2+ detection with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 1 ng/L, a high sensitivity of -16.3 mV/lg(µg/L) and a wide linear range (1 ng/L-24.5 µg/L). In addition, the detection of Hg2+ in human urine was realized with an LOD of 10 ng/L, which was more than 30 times lower than that of reported sensors. To our knowledge, it is the first time that GMP was used as extended-gate of EGFET biosensor.

BACKGROUND: Educational attainment (EA) as a stable indicator of socioeconomic status has been confirmed to affect intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), but the mechanism relating EA and ICH is still unknown. AIM: To explore the causal relationship between EA and ICH through a bidirectional and two-step Mendelian randomization (MR) study. METHODS: Using summary-level Genome-wide Association Study (GWAS) data based from European ancestry, we performed bidirectional and two-step MR analyses to explore the causal relationship between educational attainment and ICH to understand the mediating influence of risk factors in this process. We also carried out subgroup analysis according to the different sites (deep and lobar) of ICH. A set of sensitivity analyses were performed to test valid MR assumptions. RESULTS: Bidirectional MR analysis consistently demonstrated a unidirectional causal effect, revealing that higher EA had a protective influence on ICH. Each additional 1-standard deviation (SD) increase in genetically predicted years of schooling was associated with a reduced risk of all ICH (inverse variance weighted (IVW) OR: 0.381 [95%CI: 0.264-0.549]), deep ICH (OR: 0.334 [95%CI: 0.216-0.517]), and lobar ICH (OR: 0.422 [95%CI: 0.261-0.682]). The mediating effect of EA on all ICH was mediated via systolic blood pressure (SBP) (6.93% [1.20-13.45%]) and body mass index (BMI) (17.87% [3.92-34.64%]), and the mediating effect of EA on deep ICH was also mediated via SBP (7.85% [1.55-15.07%]) and BMI (18.63% [4.02-36.26%]). CONCLUSION: This study provides robust genetic evidence for supporting the protective effect of EA on ICH risk, with further evidence that the effect of EA on deep ICH is partially mediated through hypertension and obesity. Further validation is needed to ascertain whether these findings are applicable to other racial or general population groups.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) has been on the rise in recent years. Studies have shown that people with NSSI have difficulties in emotion regulation and cognitive control. In addition, some studies have investigated the cognitive emotion regulation of people with NSSI which found that they have difficulties in cognitive emotion regulation, but there was a lack of research on cognitive emotion regulation strategies and related neural mechanisms. METHODS: This study included 117 people with NSSI (age = 19.47 ± 5.13, male = 17) and 84 non-NSSI participants (age = 19.86 ± 4.14, male = 16). People with NSSI met the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, and non-NSSI participants had no mental or physical disorders. The study collected all participants' data of Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to explore the differences in psychological performance and brain between two groups. Afterwards, Machine learning was used to select the found differential brain regions to obtain the highest correlation regions with NSSI. Then, Allen's Human Brain Atlas database was used to compare with the information on the abnormal brain regions of people with NSSI to find the genetic information related to NSSI. In addition, gene enrichment analysis was carried out to find the related pathways and specific cells that may have differences. RESULTS: The differences between NSSI participants and non-NSSI participants were as follows: positive refocusing (t = -4.74, p < 0.01); refocusing on plans (t = -4.11, p < 0.01); positive reappraisal (t = -9.22, p < 0.01); self-blame (t = 6.30, p < 0.01); rumination (t = 3.64, p < 0.01); catastrophizing (t = 9.10, p < 0.01), and blaming others (t = 2.52, p < 0.01), the precentral gyrus (t = 6.04, pFDR < 0.05) and the rolandic operculum (t = -4.57, pFDR < 0.05). Rolandic operculum activity was negatively correlated with blaming others (r = -0.20, p < 0.05). Epigenetic results showed that excitatory neurons (p < 0.01) and inhibitory neurons (p < 0.01) were significant differences in two pathways, "trans-synaptic signaling" (p < -log108) and "modulation of chemical synaptic transmission" (p < -log108) in both cells. CONCLUSIONS: People with NSSI are more inclined to adopt non-adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies. Rolandic operculum is also abnormally active. Abnormal changes in the rolandic operculum of them are associated with non-adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies. Changes in the excitatory and inhibitory neurons provide hints to explore the abnormalities of the neurological mechanisms at the cellular level of them. Trial registration number NCT04094623.

This protocol provides a convenient and efficient pathway for the construction of diverse 8-alkyl quinoline derivatives in one-pot. Furthermore, mechanistic studies revealed that the first C-H amidation was significantly faster than the sequential C-H alkylation.

Colloidal molecule clusters (CMCs) are promising building blocks with molecule-like symmetry, offering exceptional synergistic properties for applications in plasmonics and catalysis. Traditional CMC fabrication has been limited to simple molecule-like structures utilizing isotropic particles. Here, we employ molecular dynamics simulation to investigate the co-assembly of anisotropic nanorods (NRs) and the stimulus-responsive polymer (SRP) via reversible adsorption. The results of the simulation show that it is possible to fabricate hypercoordination complex structures with high symmetry from the co-assembly of NRs and the SRP, even in analogy to the Th(BH4)4 structure. The coordination number of these CMCs can be precisely programmed by adjusting the shape and size of the ends of the NRs and the SRP cohesion energy. Furthermore, a finite-difference time-domain simulation indicates these hypercoordination structures exhibit significantly enhanced optical activity and plasmonic coupling effects. These findings introduce a new design approach for complex molecule-like structures utilizing anisotropic nanoparticles and may expand the applications of CMCs in photonics.

Atherosclerosis (AS), a pathological cause of cardiovascular disease, results from endothelial injury, local progressive inflammation, and excessive lipid accumulation. AS plaques rich in foam cells are prone to rupture and form thrombus, which can cause life-threatening complications. Therefore, the assessment of atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability and early intervention are crucial in reducing the mortality rates associated with cardiovascular disease. In this work, A fluorescent probe FC-TPA was synthesized, which switches the fluorescence state between protonated and non-protonated, reducing background fluorescence and enhancing imaging signal-to-noise ratio. On this basis, FC-TPA is loaded into cyclodextrin (CD) modified with phosphatidylserine targeting peptide (PTP) and coated with hyaluronic acid (HA) to construct the intelligent responsive diagnostic nanoplatform (HA@PCFT). HA@PCFT effectively targets atherosclerotic plaques, utilizing dual targeting mechanisms. HA binds strongly to CD44, while PTP binds to phosphatidylserine, enabling nanoparticle aggregation at the lesion site. ROS acts as a smart release switch for probes. Both in vitro and in vivo evaluations confirm impressive lipid-specific fluorescence imaging capabilities of HA@PCFT nanoparticles (NPs). The detection of lipid load in atherosclerotic plaque by fluorescence imaging will aid in assessing the vulnerability of atherosclerotic plaque. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Currently, numerous fluorescent probes have been developed for lipid imaging. However, some challenges including inadequate water solubility, nonspecific distribution patterns, and fluorescence background interference, have greatly limited their further applications in vivo. To overcome these limitations, a fluorescent molecule has been designed and synthesized, thoroughly investigating its photophysical properties through both theoretical and experimental approaches. Interestingly, this fluorescent molecule exhibits the reversible fluorescence switching capabilities, mediated by hydrogen bonds, which effectively mitigate background fluorescence interference. Additionally, the fluorescent molecules has been successfully loaded into nanocarriers functionalized with the active targeting abilities, which has significantly improved the solubility of the fluorescent molecules and reduced their nonspecific distribution in vivo for an efficient target imaging in atherosclerosis. This study provides a valuable reference for evaluating the performance of such fluorescent dyes, and offers a promising perspective on the design of the target delivery systems for atherosclerosis.

The INO80 chromatin remodeler is a versatile enzyme capable of several functions, including spacing nucleosomes equal distances apart, precise positioning of nucleosomes based on DNA shape/sequence and exchanging histone dimers. Within INO80, the Arp5 subunit plays a central role in INO80 remodeling, evidenced by its interactions with the histone octamer, nucleosomal and extranucleosomal DNA, and its necessity in linking INO80's ATPase activity to nucleosome movement. Our investigation reveals that the grappler domain of Arp5 interacts with the acidic pocket of nucleosomes through two distinct mechanisms: an arginine anchor or a hydrophobic/acidic patch. These two modes of binding serve distinct functions within INO80 as shown in vivo by mutations in these regions resulting in varying phenotypes and in vitro by diverse effects on nucleosome mobilization. Our findings suggest that the hydrophobic/acidic patch of Arp5 is likely important for dimer exchange by INO80, while the arginine anchor is crucial for mobilizing nucleosomes.

The Chinese tree shrew ( Tupaia belangeri chinensis) has emerged as a promising model for investigating adrenal steroid synthesis, but it is unclear whether the same cells produce steroid hormones and whether their production is regulated in the same way as in humans. Here, we comprehensively mapped the cell types and pathways of steroid metabolism in the adrenal gland of Chinese tree shrews using single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptome analysis, mass spectrometry, and immunohistochemistry. We compared the transcriptomes of various adrenal cell types across tree shrews, humans, macaques, and mice. Results showed that tree shrew adrenal glands expressed many of the same key enzymes for steroid synthesis as humans, including CYP11B2, CYP11B1, CYB5A, and CHGA. Biochemical analysis confirmed the production of aldosterone, cortisol, and dehydroepiandrosterone but not dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate in the tree shrew adrenal glands. Furthermore, genes in adrenal cell types in tree shrews were correlated with genetic risk factors for polycystic ovary syndrome, primary aldosteronism, hypertension, and related disorders in humans based on genome-wide association studies. Overall, this study suggests that the adrenal glands of Chinese tree shrews may consist of closely related cell populations with functional similarity to those of the human adrenal gland. Our comprehensive results (publicly available at http://gxmujyzmolab.cn:16245/scAGMap/) should facilitate the advancement of this animal model for the investigation of adrenal gland disorders.

A series of nitrogen-bridged BODIPY oligomers were synthesized via nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) as a convenient approach. Further transformations achieved novel α,α-aryl BODIPY dimers as well as a BODIPY hexamer efficiently. These BODIPY oligomers showed good photophysical properties, such as apparent absorption and emission both in visible and near-infrared regions. Interestingly, the high air and photothermal stability, strong NIR absorption, and high photothermal conversion rates of hexamer B6 suggest potential applications in photothermal therapy.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the feasibility of Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging (DKI) in assessing renal interstitial fibrosis induced by hyperuricemia. METHODS: A hyperuricemia rat model was established, and the rats were randomly split into the hyperuricemia (HUA), allopurinol (AP), and AP + empagliflozin (AP + EM) groups (n = 19 per group). Also, the normal rats were selected as controls (CON, n = 19). DKI was performed before treatment (baseline) and on days 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 days after treatment. The DKI indicators, including mean kurtosis (MK), fractional anisotropy (FA), and mean diffusivity (MD) of the cortex (CO), outer stripe of the outer medulla (OS), and inner stripe of the outer medulla (IS) were acquired. Additionally, hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, Masson trichrome staining, and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) immunostaining were used to reveal renal histopathological changes at baseline, 1, 5, and 9 days after treatment. RESULTS: The HUA, AP, and AP + EM group MKOS and MKIS values gradually increased during this study. The HUA group exhibited the highest MK value in outer medulla. Except for the CON group, all the groups showed a decreasing trend in the FA and MD values of outer medulla. The HUA group exhibited the lowest FA and MD values. The MKOS and MKIS values were positively correlated with Masson's trichrome staining results (r = 0.687, P < 0.001 and r = 0.604, P = 0.001, respectively). The MDOS and FAIS were negatively correlated with Masson's trichrome staining (r = -626, P < 0.0014 and r = -0.468, P = 0.01, respectively). CONCLUSION: DKI may be a non-invasive method for monitoring renal interstitial fibrosis induced by hyperuricemia.

Background: Serum creatinine is a prognostic marker for various conditions, but its significance of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage is still poorly understood. This study aims to elucidate the correlation between admission serum creatinine (sCr) levels and all-cause mortality within 30 days among individuals affected by non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Methods: This cohort study included 672 non-traumatic SAH adults. It utilized data from the MIMIC-IV database from 2008 to 2019. The patients' first-time serum creatinine was recorded. Subsequently, an examination of the 30-day all-cause mortality was conducted. Employing a multiple logistic regression model, a nomogram was constructed, while the association between sCr and 30-day all-cause mortality was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier survival curves. The calibration curve was employed to assess the model's performance, while subgroup analysis was employed to examine the impact of additional complications and medication therapy on outcomes. Results: A total of 672 patients diagnosed with non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage were included in the study. The mortality rate within this timeframe was found to be 24.7%. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that sCr served as an independent prognostic indicator for all-cause mortality within 30 days of admission for SAH patients [OR: 2(1.18-3.41); p = 0.01]. A comprehensive model was constructed, incorporating age, sCr, white blood cell count (WBC), glucose, anion gap, and partial thromboplastin time (PTT), resulting in a prediction model with an AUC value of 0.806 (95% CI: 0.768, 0.843), while the AUC for the test set is 0.821 (95% CI: 0.777-0.865). Conclusion: Creatinine emerges as a significant biomarker, closely associated with heightened in-hospital mortality in individuals suffering from SAH.

BACKGROUND: As comprehensive surgical management for gastric cancer becomes increasingly specialized and standardized, the precise differentiation between ≤T1 and ≥T2 gastric cancer before endoscopic intervention holds paramount clinical significance. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of contrast-enhanced gastric ultrasonography in differentiating ≤T1 and ≥T2 gastric cancer. METHODS: PubMed, Web of Science, and Medline were searched to collect studies published from January 1, 2000 to March 16, 2023 on the efficacy of either double contrast-enhanced gastric ultrasonography (D-CEGUS) or oral contrast-enhanced gastric ultrasonography (O-CEGUS) in determining T-stage in gastric cancer. The articles were selected according to specified inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the quality of the included literature was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 scale. Meta-analysis was performed using Stata 12 software with data from the 2 × 2 crosslinked tables in the included literature. RESULTS: In total, 11 papers with 1124 patients were included in the O-CEGUS analysis, which revealed a combined sensitivity of 0.822 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.753-0.875), combined specificity of 0.964 (95% CI = 0.925-0.983), and area under the summary receiver operating characteristic (sROC) curve (AUC) of 0.92 (95% CI = 0.89-0.94). In addition, five studies involving 536 patients were included in the D-CEGUS analysis, which gave a combined sensitivity of 0.733 (95% CI = 0.550-0.860), combined specificity of 0.982 (95% CI = 0.936-0.995), and AUC of 0.93 (95% CI = 0.91-0.95). According to the I2 and P values ​​of the forest plot, there was obvious heterogeneity in the combined specificities of the included papers. Therefore, the two studies with the lowest specificities were excluded from the O-CEGUS and D-CEGUS analyses, which eliminated the heterogeneity among the remaining literature. Consequently, the combined sensitivity and specificity of the remaining studies were 0.794 (95% CI = 0.710-0.859) and 0.976 (95% CI = 0.962-0.985), respectively, for the O-CEDUS studies and 0.765 (95% CI = 0.543-0.899) and 0.986 (95% CI = 0.967-0.994), respectively, for the D-CEGUS studies. The AUCs were 0.98 and 0.99 for O-CEGUS and D-CEGUS studies, respectively. CONCLUSION: Both O-CEGUS and D-CEGUS can differentiate ≤T1 gastric cancer from ≥T2 gastric cancer, thus assisting the formulation of clinical treatment strategies for patients with very early gastric cancer. Given its simplicity and cost-effectiveness, O-CEGUS is often favored as a staging method for gastric cancer prior to endoscopic intervention.

The role of PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) in small extracellular vesicles (sEV) derived from pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PNEN) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) remains unexplored. We used multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC) to analyze the expression of CD68, CD276 (B7H3) and CD3 on PNEN. CD276+ tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) were more abundant in tumor tissues than nontumor tissues and negatively correlated with T-cell infiltration. Serum sEV piRNA sequencing was performed to identify piRNAs enriched in PNEN patients. We then investigated the function and mechanism of sEV piR-hsa-30937 in the crosstalk between tumor cells and macrophages in the PNEN TME. PNEN-derived sEV piR-hsa-30937 targeted PTEN to activate the AKT pathway and drive CD276 expression. CD276+ macrophages inhibited T-cell proliferation and IFN- production. piR-hsa-30937 knockdown and anti-CD276 treatment suppressed progression and metastasis in a preclinical model of PNEN by enhancing T-cell immunity. Thus, our data show that PNEN-derived sEV piR-hsa-30937 promotes CD276 expression in macrophages through the PTEN/AKT pathway and that CD276+ TAMs suppress T-cell antitumor immunity. sEV piR-hsa-30937 and CD276 are potential therapeutic targets for immunotherapy of PNEN.

The coarse-grained (CG) model serves as a powerful tool for the simulation of polymer systems; its reliability depends on the accurate representation of both structural and dynamical properties. However, strong correlations between structural and dynamical properties on different scales and also a strong memory effect, enforced by chain connectivity between monomers in polymer systems, render developing a chemically specific systematic CG model a formidable task. In this study, we report a systematic CG approach that combines the iterative Boltzmann inversion (IBI) method and the generalized Langevin equation (GLE) dynamics. Structural properties are ensured by using conservative CG potentials derived from the IBI method. To retrieve the correct dynamical properties in the system, we demonstrate that using a combination of a Rouse-type delta function and a time-dependent short-time kernel in the GLE simulation is practically efficient. The former can be used to adjust the long-time diffusion dynamics, and the latter can be reconstructed from an iterative procedure according to the velocity autocorrelation function (ACF) from all-atomistic (AA) simulations. Taking the polystyrene as an example, we show that not only structural properties of radial distribution function, intramolecular bond, and angle distributions can be reproduced but also dynamical properties of mean-square displacement, velocity ACF, and force ACF resulted from our CG model have quantitative agreement with the reference AA model. In addition, reasonable agreements are observed in other collective properties between our GLE-CG model and the AA simulations as well.

OBJECTIVES: To explore the risk factors associated with cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) in infants. METHODS: This study was a multicenter prospective nested case-control study conducted in seven medical centers in Beijing, China. Infants aged 0-12 months were included, with 200 cases of CMPA infants and 799 control infants without CMPA. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the risk factors for the occurrence of CMPA. RESULTS: Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that preterm birth, low birth weight, birth from the first pregnancy, firstborn, spring birth, summer birth, mixed/artificial feeding, and parental history of allergic diseases were associated with an increased risk of CMPA in infants (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that firstborn (OR=1.89, 95%CI: 1.14-3.13), spring birth (OR=3.42, 95%CI: 1.70-6.58), summer birth (OR=2.29, 95%CI: 1.22-4.27), mixed/artificial feeding (OR=1.57, 95%CI: 1.10-2.26), parental history of allergies (OR=2.13, 95%CI: 1.51-3.02), and both parents having allergies (OR=3.15, 95%CI: 1.78-5.56) were risk factors for CMPA in infants (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Firstborn, spring birth, summer birth, mixed/artificial feeding, and a family history of allergies are associated with an increased risk of CMPA in infants.

Previous studies suggested odor stimulation may influence feeding of premature neonates. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was conducted to assess the effect of human milk odor stimulation on feeding of premature infants. All randomized controlled trials related to human milk odor stimulation on feeding in premature infants published in PubMed, Cochrane, Library, Medline, Embase, Web of science databases and Chinese biomedical literature databases, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP) and Wanfang Chinese databases were searched, and The Cochrane Handbook 5.1.0 was used to evaluate the quality and authenticity of the literature. Relevant information of the included studies was extracted and summarized, and the evaluation indexes were analyzed using ReviewManager5.3. The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to July 28, 2022.12 articles were assessed for eligibility, and six randomized controlled studies were eventually included in the meta-analysis (PRISMA). A total of 6 randomized controlled studies with 763 patients were finally included in the study, and the quality evaluation of literatures were all grade B. Human milk odor stimulation reduced the transition time to oral feeding in premature infants [SMD = - 0.48, 95% CI (- 0.69, - 0.27), Z = 4.54, P < 0.00001] and shortened the duration of parenteral nutrition [MD = - 1.01, 95% CI (- 1.70, - 0.32), Z = 2.88, P = 0.004]. However, it did not change the length of hospitalization for premature infants [MD = - 0.03, 95% CI (- 0.41, 0.35), Z = 0.17, P = 0.86]. The implementation of human milk odor stimulation can reduce the transition time to oral feeding and the duration of parenteral nutrition in premature infants, but further studies are needed to determine whether it can reduce the length of hospital stay in premature infants. More high-quality, large-sample studies are needed to investigate the effect of human milk odor stimulation on the feeding process and other outcomes in premature infants.
