RESUMO

Wearable epidermic electronics assembled from conductive hydrogels are attracting various research attention for their seamless integration with human body for conformally real-time health monitoring, clinical diagnostics and medical treatment, and human-interactive sensing. Nevertheless, it remains a tremendous challenge to simultaneously achieve conformally bioadhesive epidermic electronics with remarkable self-adhesiveness, reliable ultraviolet (UV) protection ability, and admirable sensing performance for high-fidelity epidermal electrophysiological signals monitoring, along with timely photothermal therapeutic performances after medical diagnostic sensing, as well as efficient antibacterial activity and reliable hemostatic effect for potential medical therapy. Herein, a conformally bioadhesive hydrogel-based epidermic sensor, featuring superior self-adhesiveness and excellent UV-protection performance, is developed by dexterously assembling conducting MXene nanosheets network with biological hydrogel polymer network for conformally stably attaching onto human skin for high-quality recording of various epidermal electrophysiological signals with high signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) and low interfacial impedance for intelligent medical diagnosis and smart human-machine interface. Moreover, a smart sign language gesture recognition platform based on collected electromyogram (EMG) signals is designed for hassle-free communication with hearing-impaired people with the help of advanced machine learning algorithms. Meanwhile, the bioadhesive MXene hydrogel possesses reliable antibacterial capability, excellent biocompatibility, and effective hemostasis properties for promising bacterial-infected wound bleeding.

RESUMO

Excessive CO2 emissions have resulted in global warming and are a serious threat to the life of people, various strategies have been implemented to cut carbon emissions, and one of them is the use of a gas separation membrane to capture CO2 effectively. In this experiment, the butadiene-bridged polymethylsiloxane (BBPMS)/ethyl cellulose (EC)/ionic liquid (IL) ternary composite membranes were prepared by EC as a substrate, BBPMS, and IL as additives in tetrahydrofuran under high-speed stirring and coated on the membrane. The membrane structure was characterized by a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer and scanning electron microscope, and the membrane properties were tested by a membrane tensile strength tester, thermal weight loss analyzer, and gas permeability meter. The results show that the surface of the ternary composite membrane is dense and flat with a uniform distribution, and the membrane formation, heat resistance, and mechanical properties are good. The permeability coefficient of the ternary composite membrane for CO2 reached 1806.03 Barrer, which is 20.00 times higher than that of the EC/IL hybrid matrix membrane. The permeability coefficient of O2 reached 321.01 Barrer, which is 19.21 times higher than that of the EC/IL membrane. When the doping amount of BBPMS is 70-80%, the O2/N2 gas permeation separation of the BBPMS/EC/IL ternary composite membrane is close to the Robertson 2008 curve. It is always known that in the gas separation process the membrane material is the most crucial factor. The success of this experiment points to a new direction for the preparation of new membrane materials.

RESUMO

The synthesis of poly(methyhydrosiloxane) (PMHS) and N,N'-bis(3-allyl)pyromellitic diimide was optimized for O2/N2 separation. The membrane exhibits excellent mechanical and thermal properties and shows an O2/N2 selectivity of up to 4.44 with an O2 permeability of 31.0 Barrer; compared with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and pure polyimide (PI) membranes, the separation selectivity shows a 107% increase for PDMS, and the permeation shows a 660% increase for pure PI. The obtained results were well above the ones reported on the literature for similar conditions opening the door for the preparation of a stable polysiloxane (PMHS-I) gas separation membrane with extraordinary O2/N2 separation performance.

RESUMO

Cellulose acetate (CA) grafted with imidazole ionic liquids (CA-ILs) was synthesized by reacting CA with imidazole ionic liquids ([HO2CMmim]Cl, [HO2CEtmim]Cl, and [HO2CMmim]Br) by using tetrahydrofuran (THF) as the solvent and pyridine as the catalyst. The CA and CA-IL films were fabricated by using the casting solution method. The CA-IL films exhibited good film forming ability and mechanical properties. The successful grafting of CA with imidazole ionic liquids was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H NMR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and elemental analysis, and the grafting degrees were 2.24, 2.45, and 3.30%, respectively. The CO2 permeation properties of the CA-IL films were 65.5, 105.6, and 88.3 Barrer, increased up to 2.0, 3.2, and 2.7 times, respectively, as compared to pure CA (32.6 Barrer). The CO2/CH4 selectivities of the CA-IL films were 15.6, 12.6, and 19.2, increased up to 1.7, 1.4, and 2.1 times, respectively, as compared to pure CA (9.26). Therefore, it can be concluded that the imidazole ionic liquids are immensely useful for improving the gas separation performance of CA films.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Jiarong Tablets (JRT) on the testicular morphology and function of rats with late-onset hypogonadism (LOH). METHODS: LOH models were established in 8 eighteen-month-old male SD rats, treated intragastrically with distilled water (the model control group, n = 4) or JRT at 0.375 g/kg/d, qd (the JRT group, n = 4), and another 5 two-month-old normal male SD rats were also given distilled water by gavage (normal control group), all for 28 days. Then all the rats were weighed and sacrificed for measurement of the serum T level and pathological and electron microscopic examination of the testis tissue. RESULTS: Compared with the normal controls, the LOH models showed significantly decreased testis coefficient (P < 0.05) and serum T level (ï¼»3.40 ± 0.06ï¼½ vs ï¼»5.88 ± 0.46ï¼½ ng /ml, P < 0.05). No statistically significant differences were observed in the model control and JRT groups in the body weight and testis coefficient (P > 0.05), but the serum T level (ï¼»4.50 ± 0.78ï¼½ ng/ml) was remarkably decreased in the latter (P < 0.05). In comparison with the model controls, the rats treated with JRT exhibited increases in the sperm count in the seminiferous tubules and the amount of testicular interstitial cells. Electron microscopy revealed a markedly increased number of mitochondria in the JRT-treated animals, with some mitochondrial sheaths and cristae but no obvious mitochondrial edema. CONCLUSIONS: Jiarong Tablets can elevate the serum T level and improve the testicular morphology and ultrastructure of LOH rats.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Xiongcan Yishen Prescription (XYP) on the expressions of cholesterol transport proteins, steroidogenic enzymes and steroidogenic factor-1 (SF-1) in the Leydig cells of the rats with late-onset hypogonadism (LOH). METHODS: Twenty-five 18-month-old male SD rats were randomly divided into five groups of equal number, LOH model control, testosterone propionate (TP) and low-, medium- and high-dose XYP, and another 5 two-month-old male SD rats included as normal controls. After modeling, the animals in the TP group were treated by intramuscular injection of TP at 5.21 mg/kg qd alt, those in the low-, medium- and high-dose XYP groups intragastrically with XYP at 10.4, 20.8 and 41.6 g/kg qd alt respectively, and those in the LOH model and normal control groups with saline, all for 28 successive days. Then, all the rats were sacrificed for determination of the expressions of the cholesterol transport proteins StAR and TSPO, steroidogenic enzymes CYP11A1, HSD3B7 and HSD17B4, and SF-1 in the Leydig cells by Western blot. RESULTS: The expressions of StAR, TSPO, CYP11A1, HSD3B7, HSD17B4 and SF-1 in the Leydig cells were significantly decreased in the LOH model controls compared with those in the normal controls (P< 0.05), but remarkably increased in the low-, medium- and high-dose XYP groups in comparison with those in the LOH model control group (P< 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Xiongcan Yishen Prescription can up-regulate the expressions of the cholesterol transport proteins StAR and TSPO, steroidogenic enzymes CYP11A1, HSD3B7 and HSD17B4, and SF-1 in the rat Leydig cells, which might be one of the possible mechanisms of the prescription in the treatment of LOH.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Xiongcan Yishen Prescription (XYP) on the expressions of eNOS and cGMP in the penile tissue of ED rats with liver depression and kidney deficiency (LDKD). METHODS: The model of ED-LDKD was established in 30 eight-week-old SPF-class male SD rats by injecting hydrocortisone intramuscularly and binding the limbs for 14 days, and another 10 rats were taken as blank controls. Then, the model rats were randomized into six groups of equal number and treated intragastrically with distilled water (model control), tadalafil tablets at 0.52 mg/kg/d (tadalafil control), Shugan Yiyang Capsules 0.3125 g/kg/d (SYC control), and XYP at 10.4 g/kg/d (low-dose XYP), 20.8 g/kg/d (medium-dose XYP) and 41.6 g/kg/d (high-dose XYP), bid, for 28 successive days, respectively. Before and after modeling and after 28-day treatment, the animals were subjected to tail suspension and mating tests. The next day after medication, the penile tissues of the rats were harvested for determining the expression levels of eNOS and cGMP proteins by immunohistochemical analysis of the mean optical density. RESULTS: Compared with the model controls, the rats of the high-, medium- and low-dose XYP and SYC control groups all showed significant decreases in the tail suspension time (ï¼»3.17 ± 0.11ï¼½ vs ï¼»2.58 ± 0.25ï¼½, ï¼»2.52 ± 0.31ï¼½, ï¼»2.51 ± 0.3ï¼½ and ï¼»2.57 ± 0.29ï¼½ min, P < 0.05) and mount latency (ML) (ï¼»9.23 ± 0.11ï¼½ vs ï¼»1.21 ± 0.12ï¼½, ï¼»2.17 ± 0.16ï¼½, ï¼»2.26 ± 0.13ï¼½, ï¼»1.23 ± 0.15ï¼½ and ï¼»2.48 ± 0.18ï¼½ min, P < 0.05) but increases in mount frequency (MF) (ï¼»0.48 ± 0.18ï¼½ vs ï¼»3.29 ± 0.11ï¼½, ï¼»3.18 ± 0.11ï¼½, ï¼»3.05 ± 0.05ï¼½, ï¼»3.23 ± 0.12ï¼½ and ï¼»3.2 ± 0.28ï¼½ times, P < 0.05) and intromission frequency (IF) (ï¼»0.8 ± 0.84ï¼½ vs ï¼»11.8 ± 0.84ï¼½, ï¼»11.2 ± 1.48ï¼½, ï¼»9.4 ± 1.14ï¼½, ï¼»11.4 ± 1.14ï¼½ and ï¼»10 ± 1.22ï¼½ times, P < 0.05). The eNOS and cGMP proteins were mainly expressed in the nucleus and cytoplasm of the arterial and venous endothelial cells and sinusoidal endothelial cells of the cavernous, as brownish yellow particles in a scattered and focal pattern. Both the expressions of eNOS and cGMP in the penile tissue were remarkably upregulated in the high-, medium- and low-dose XYP and SYC control groups as compared with those in the model control (P < 0.05) but exhibited no statistically significant difference between the tadalafil and model control groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Xiongcan Yishen Prescription can relieve the depression symptoms, increase the mount frequency, activate the NO/cGMP pathway, and upregulate the expressions of eNOS and cGMP in the penile tissue of ED rats with liver depression and kidney deficiency.

RESUMO

Corn straw is an agricultural waste. The system for extracting cellulose from corn straw at a high temperature has been widely reported by researchers. However, the system for extracting cellulose from corn straw at a low temperature has been rarely reported. In this paper, a new system for extracting cellulose from corn straw at a low temperature was reported for the first time. This new system is designated as the low temperature laccase system (LTLS). Cellulose was successfully extracted from corn straw by the LTLS, and the used solution could be recycled. Therefore, the low temperature laccase system is an environmentally-friendly system. The cellulose content in corn straw is 30-40%. The yield of cellulose extracted by LTLS was 33%. The obtained cellulose product was creamy white. The extracted cellulose samples were characterized by using infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetry (TG), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results were consistent with that of standard cellulose. We confirmed that the LTLS extracted cellulose from corn straw with high purity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of PINK1 and Parkin pathways mediated by Xiongcanyishen Prescription (XP) on the mitochondrial autophagy of Leydig cells in male rats with late-onset hypogonadism (LOH). METHODS: Twenty 18-month-old male SD rats were randomly divided into an LOH model control, a low-dose XP, a medium-dose XP and a high-dose XP group, and another 5 two-month-old male SD rats were included as normal controls. The animals in the low-, medium- and high-dose XP groups were treated intragastrically with XP granules at 10.4, 20.8 and 41.6 g/kg, while the normal and LOH model controls with the same volume of distilled water, all for 28 successive days. Then the testis tissues of the rats were harvested for observation of the ultrastructure of the Leydig cells under the electron microscope, and the expressions of PINK1, Parkin and p62 proteins were detected by Western blot. RESULTS: The mitochondria in the Leydig cells of the normal controls were basically normal in morphology, with evident autophagy, those of the model controls showed less autophagy, and those in the XP intervention groups all exhibited autophagy. The expressions of PINK1 and Parkin proteins in the testis tissue were significantly lower and that of p62 markedly higher in the LOH model than in the normal controls (P < 0.05). Compared with the rats in the model control group, those treated with XP showed remarkable elevation in the expression of PINK1 in the low-, medium- and high-dose groups and that of Parkin in the medium- and high-dose groups (P < 0.05), but a significantly down-regulated expression of p62 in all the three XP groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Xiongcanyishen Prescription can enhance the decreased mitochondrial autophagy of Leydig cells in LOH rats, which may be related to its ability of up-regulating the expressions of PINK1 and Parkin and down-regulating that of p62 and its influence on the ultrastructure of Leydig cells.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: The dietary fiber can regulate the intestinal mucosal immunity, and the M cell is the portal for initiating mucosal immunity. We investigated the effects of dietary fiber on the transport of Escherichia coli to assess the function of microfold (M) cells in the appendix. METHOD: A total of 150 New Zealand rabbits were fed three diets (high fiber (HF): 31.72%; control: 37.36%; low dietary fiber (LF): 41.84%; neutral detergent fiber (NDF). An infection model was established in vivo using E. coli containing green fluorescent protein as the indicator in appendix loops. Samples were collected before and after inoculation with indicator for 10, 30, or 60 min. The M cells number, differentiation-related genes and proteins were monitored by respectively using immunofluorescence, Q-PCR and Western-blot. RESULTS: The number of M cells in HF group was significantly higher than that of LF group before and at 10 min, 30 min post injection with E.coli (P < 0.01), which has an opposite at 60 min. The number of fluorescent E. coli transported across the appendix was significantly increased in the HF group (P < 0.01) compared with the LF group at 30 min (P < 0.001); expression of RANKL gene and protein levels were no difference between HF and LF group. The variation tendency of RANK, OPG genes and proteins were consistent with the change of M cell transport indicator number in different time points. CONCLUSION: Our study showed that a high-fiber diet can increase number of M cells and speed up antigen transfer under regulation of ANKL/OPG/RANK system.

RESUMO

Ethyl cellulose was grafted with ionic liquids in optimal yields (62.5-64.1%) and grafting degrees (5.93-7.90%) by the esterification of the hydroxyl groups in ethyl cellulose with the carboxyl groups in ionic liquids. In IR spectra of the ethyl cellulose derivatives exhibited C=O bond stretching vibration peaks at 1760 or 1740 cm-1, confirming the formation of the ester groups and furnishing the evidence of the successful grafting of ethyl cellulose with ionic liquids. The ethyl cellulose grafted with ionic liquids could be formed into membranes by using the casting solution method. The resulting membranes exhibited good membrane forming ability and mechanical properties. The EC grafted with ionic liquids-based membranes demonstrated PCO2/PCH4 separation factors of up to 18.8, whereas the PCO2/PCH4 separation factor of 9.0 was obtained for pure EC membrane (both for CO2/CH4 mixture gas). The membranes also demonstrated an excellent gas permeability coefficient PCO2, up to 199 Barrer, which was higher than pure EC (PCO2 = 46.8 Barrer). Therefore, it can be concluded that the ionic liquids with imidazole groups are immensely useful for improving the gas separation performances of EC membranes.

RESUMO

This study investigated the influence of dietary fiber levels on the growth performance, digestion, metabolism, and cecal microbial community of rabbits with different diets at different age. The different levels of dietary natural detergent fiber (NDF) were formulated accordingly: 400(A), 350(B), 300(C), 250(D) g/kg original matter basis, respectively; the different ages were 52, 62, and 72 days. With NDF increasing, the average daily feed intake (ADFI) and feed conversion rate (FCR) were increased, whereas average daily gain (ADG) and mortality were decreased (p < 0.05). The stomach relative weight, stomach content relative weight, cecal relative weight, and cecal content weight increased with increasing NDF (p < 0.05). The NH3 -N concentration of cecum dropped when the dietary NDF increased (p < 0.05). The diversity of the total microbiota increased significantly in Diets B, C (p = 0.011), and reached the lowest in 52 days for all diet groups. The richness index was decreased significantly in Diet A, D (p < 0.05) and in 62 days (p < 0.001), respectively. The phylum Firmicutes was higher (p < 0.01) in rabbits fed Diets B, C than Diets A, D and Bacteroidetes was highest in Diets C, D, and Proteobacteria was the highest in Diet A (p < 0.001). Among the classified genera, there were 14 that had levels of abundance of more than 1% and were commonly shared by all samples. Ruminococcus spp. that produced volatile fatty acid (VFA) abundance was highest from Diets B, C at 52 and 62 days. It is interesting to note that Bifidobacterium from Diet C was the most abundant genus during the entire experimental period (p < 0.01). The data from Venn diagrams, principal component analysis (PCA), and heat map plots of the bacterial communities showed that there were more groups of shared microbiota with aging. The above results indicate the cecal microbiota controlled by the 350 g/kg NDF diet can prevent gastrointestinal distress and exhibit good production performance.

RESUMO

Photothermal therapy (PTT) is providing new opportunities for killing cancer cells. In this work, we introduce a new nanomedicine based on spherical MoS2 nanoparticles for PTT treatment of tumors, prepared using "green" bottom-up technology. To increase water solubility and avoid rapid clearance by the reticuloendothelial system, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used to coat them. These MoS2-PEG nanospheres with an appropriate size (∼100 nm) exhibit high photothermal conversion efficiency (26.7%). In vitro cellular studies revealed that the MoS2-PEG nanospheres showed negligible cytotoxicity. Additionally, through combining the MoS2-PEG nanosphere samples with NIR irradiation at 808 nm, excellent in vitro tumor cell killing efficacy was achieved. In the 4T1 tumor model, the MoS2-PEG nanospheres exhibited good antitumor efficiency in vivo, displaying complete tumor inhibition over 16 days after treatment. Therefore, MoS2-PEG nanospheres played an important role in tumor destruction, and this concept for developing spherical MoS2-based nanomedicines can serve as a platform technology for the next generation of in vivo PTT agents.

RESUMO

KDP single crystals were grown in aqueous solution by using "point seeds" with a defined crystallographic direction of 59° to the Z axis. When hillock slopes on the (100) face of KDP crystals were measured within the supersaturation (σ) range of 0 < σ ≤ 0.06, the slope of hillocks with hollow cores depended nonlinearly on supersaturation. Below σ = 0.02, the hillock slope depended on supersaturation, but when σ was ≥ 0.02, the hillock slope increased more gradually and was less dependent on supersaturation. Hollow funnel-shaped growth dislocation on the (100) face of KDP crystals was observed at σ = 0.04, characterized by large holes with micro-steps and step bunching inside, the formation of which were analyzed. The result verified that the reversed growth appears to occur within hollow channels found on growth hillocks.

RESUMO

Single electron transistor (SET) has become a promising candidate for the key device of logic circuit in the near future. The advances of recent 5 years in the modeling of SETs are reviewed for the simulation of SET/hybrid CMOS-SET integrated circuit. Three dominating SET models, Monte Carlo model, master equation model and macro model, are analyzed, tested and compared on their principles, characteristics, applicability and development trend. The Monte Carlo model is suitable for SET structure research and simulation of small scale SET circuit, while the analytical model based on combination with master equation and macro model is suitable to simulate the SET circuit at balanceable efficiency and accuracy.
