RESUMO

Twelve triterpenoid saponins, including six new, were isolated and identified from the aerial parts of Fagonia glutinosa. The new saponins were characterised as 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->2)][beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->3)]-alpha-L - arabinopyranosyl-27-hydroxy oleanolic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester, 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->3)]-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl ursolic acid, 3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl ursolic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester, 3-O-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl(1-->2)][beta- D-glucopyranosyl(1-->3)]-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl ursolic acid, 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->2)][beta-D- glucopyranosyl(1-->3)]-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl ursolic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester and 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->2)][beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->3)]-alpha-L - arabinopyranosyl-27-hydroxy ursolic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester. The structures of the saponins were established by spectral and chemical evidences. The assignments of the NMR signals were performed by means of HOHAHA, 1H-1H COSY, ROE, HMQC and HMBC experiments.

RESUMO

Bilharzial bladder tumour of 28 patients staged pre-operatively by transurethral ultrasound and computerized tomography (CT). The accuracy varied from 66.6% to 77.7% in different stages as compared with pathological stage. The bilharzial reaction could be play a role in this accuracy and the histopathological study is the accurate way to express the depth of infiltration of the tumour in the bladder wall as well as the depth of vascular invasion which may be greater than the primary tumour itself.

RESUMO

The HLA-DR antigen type was studied in fifty-four patients with bilharzial bladder carcinoma and in ten patients but with non malignant bilharzial bladder lesions as controls. The monoclonal antibodies were used to identify the pattern of the distribution of lymphocytes subset and the natural killer cells. These immunohistochemical studies through some light on the relation between the different immunocompetent cells in the bladder tissue and suggested their functional role particularly in bilharziasis and in the tumour surveillance.

RESUMO

This report describes three cases from one surgical unit of the Mansoura Teaching Hospital of Cairo, Egypt, with generalized neurofibromatosis and associated breast lesions. Two patients had carcinoma of the breast and the third had cystosarcoma phylloides.

RESUMO

Twenty rabbits were divided into two matching groups. Holes of 1 cm2 area were bored through the full thickness of the pinna of both ears in each rabbit. In group I, the right ears were irradiated with pulsed ultrasound three times/week for 18 weeks. In group II, the right ears were irradiated with ultraviolet rays using a hot quartz lamp, three times/week for 18 weeks. The left ears in all rabbits were not irradiated and acted as controls. The rate of wound healing was calculated in terms of decrease in surface area of the wounds measured with a planimeter from enlarged photographs taken from the wound edges at the end of third, fifth and seventh weeks. The results revealed that ultrasound has a better effect on promotion of tissue regeneration than ultraviolet irradiation, as evidenced by both reduction in the surface area of wounds and by histopathological examination.

RESUMO

The thoracic duct was dissected in 30 fresh cadavers, and the anatomy and histology of the duct, at various levels, described. The lymph flow mechanism is correlated with the anatomical findings. The abdominal and lower two-thirds of the thoracic part are more muscular and probably have active peristalsis. The cervical part is less muscular and functions like a vein, passively conveying the lymph it receives. The ostial valve at the lympho-venous junction is bicuspid and has special characteristics and functions. The flow of lymph through the lympho-venous junction, although continuous, mainly occurs during expiration. The ostial valve functions when there is a sudden rise in venous tension causing stretching of the venous wall and the ostial cusps.
