RESUMO

Epidermoid and dermoid cysts are benign, usually slow-growing lesions classified as ectodermal inclusion cysts. These cysts form when epithelial remnants become trapped during the closure of the first and second branchial arch; however, a few cases are related to trauma or are iatrogenic. Diagnosis is made based on the cyst development history and imaging such as ultrasound. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice to avoid complications. We report a case report of a dermoid cyst in the pre-sternal region in a 17-year-old male patient.

RESUMO

Lymphangioma is a congenital malformation of the lymphatic system most often reported in children. Its occurrence in adults is rare. It usually develops in the head, neck, and axillary region. It mimics other conditions, such as cold abscess, simple cyst, hydatid cyst, and hemangioma, on clinical examination. Here, we report a case of cystic lymphangioma in the axillary region of a 32-year-old male. The patient underwent surgical excision and histopathology confirmed cystic lymphangioma. Although it is very rare in adults, cystic lymphangioma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of an axillary mass.

RESUMO

Splenic cysts are a rare clinical finding, often discovered incidentally during imaging for unrelated conditions. These cysts can be congenital or acquired and may present with symptoms such as vague abdominal pain. This case report describes a 25-year-old female with no significant personal medical history but a family history indicative of a predisposition to lymphoma. She presented with epigastric pain, nausea, and anorexia. Upon examination, a palpable mass was detected in the left upper quadrant. Advanced diagnostic imaging, including computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, identified a large benign cystic lesion at the splenic hilum. The patient underwent laparoscopic removal of the cyst, and histopathology confirmed it to be a benign epithelial splenic cyst. The patient experienced an unremarkable postoperative recovery and significant relief from symptoms. This case highlights the importance of advanced imaging in accurately identifying and managing splenic cysts and demonstrates the effectiveness of minimally invasive surgery for such conditions.

RESUMO

Epidermal inclusion cysts are cysts occurring in intradermal or subcutaneous regions with the cyst wall consisting of the true epidermis. They are slow-growing tumors that occur most commonly on the scalp, neck, face, and trunk. They are common in infancy and childhood or after female external genitalia mutilation. Herein, we report a case of a spontaneously occurring epidermal inclusion cyst of the clitoris, a rare location in a 43-year-old woman which was removed by local excision.

RESUMO

Discrimination between benign and malignant adnexal masses is essential for optimal treatment planning, but still remains challenging in a routine clinical setting. In this retrospective study, we aimed to compare albumin as a single parameter to calculate models by analyzing laboratory parameters of 1552 patients with an adnexal mass (epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC): n= 294; borderline tumor of the ovary (BTO): n = 66; benign adnexal mass: n = 1192) undergoing surgery. Models comprising classical laboratory parameters show better accuracies (AUCs 0.92-0.93; 95% CI 0.90-0.95) compared to the use of single markers, and could easily be implemented in clinical practice by containing only readily available markers. This has been incorporated into a nomogram.

RESUMO

Oral swellings and ulcers in neonates are a spectrum of diseases often creating a sense of anxiety among parents. Early detection, high index of suspicion, proper investigations, and prompt diagnosis can aid in accurate management of the same. Lymphangiomas are benign hamartomas which are basically malformed lymphatics do not drain into other lymphatics or veins and hence there is lymphatic accumulation and enlargement following cystically dilated spaces. We hereby present a rare case of a neonate born with a cystic mucosal swelling at the upper gingival sulcus since birth.

RESUMO

The current article aims to highlight the varied presentation and management of vallecular cysts. We report three children, aged four years, 11 months and three days, diagnosed with vallecular cyst presenting to the Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya hospital, New Delhi, India in 2018 and 2019. They were reviewed retrospectively for clinical presentation, diagnostic tools and treatment options. All three cases had respiratory and feeding difficulties. The diagnosis in all of the three cases was made with laryngoscopy (flexible/direct) and imaging. All three patients were treated with the transoral approach aimed at the excision of the cyst using cold instruments. The postoperative period was uneventful. No recurrences were observed during the long-term follow-up. Vallecular cysts should be considered as one of the differentials in children with respiratory distress and dysphagia despite being a rare anomaly. A direct transoral approach is recommended for the excision of the vallecular cyst as it is a safe and reliable method with no recurrences to date.

RESUMO

Lymphoepithelial cyst (LEC) of the pancreas is an extremely rare, benign pancreatic cystic lesion that is difficult to differentiate preoperatively from other cystic pancreatic lesions. LEC may have malignant potential. Here, we describe a case of LEC of the pancreas - initially suspected to be a mucinous cyst neoplasm - in an elderly man presenting with abdominal pain, who went on to have a distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy. We also review the relevant literature and discuss implications for the diagnosis and management of this rare lesion.

RESUMO

Penile cysts are rare benign lesions. Their clinical or pathological diagnosis is extremely difficult. Less than 200 cases have been reported in literature. Most of them are asymptomatic and present since birth, but usually they are only detectable in adolescence or adulthood. These lesions rarely interfere with sexual function. These cysts most likely arise from ectopic urethral mucosa sequestered in the penile skin during embryologic development. We report a rare case of a 55-year-old man with a 4.5 × 4 cm nodule on the prepuce (ventral surface), which appeared two years ago and interfered with his sexual function. The nodule was excised by circumcision and a histopathological examination revealed a mucoid cyst of penis with squamous metaplasia. No recurrence was observed at a one year follow-up and the patient's sexual function returned to normal.

The simple mesothelial cyst is a rare cause of the mesenteric cysts. The size of this lessons are usually of a few centimeters andasymptomatic so the diagnosis is based on imaging studies orintra operatory findings. Clinical case: We report a female patient of 40 years old who had a simple mesothelial cyst of big size andsymptomatic, which was managed by a complete surgical excision, being this method the treatment of choice. The symptoms that thepatient described, the previous pelvic surgery and the tumor dimensions had the characteristics of a benign cystic mesothelioma. However, the unilocular characteristic allow to categorize it like asimple mesothelial cyst. The differentiation between both lessonsis not academic due to the fact that the benign cyst mesotheliomahas a high relapse and even could become a malignant lesson(AU)

RESUMO

Post-traumatic cystic lesion is usually found adjacent to a healing torus fracture. It is typically asymptomatic and appears just proximal to the fracture line within the area of subperiosteal new bone formation. We report one such cyst in a 7 year old boy, with a brief review of literature to highlight the occurrence of such benign self limiting cystic lesions of lower end radius fracture.
