The aim of this study was to compare the long-term bonding performance to lithium disilicate (LDS) ceramic between one-bottle and two-bottle bonding agents. Bonding performance was investigated under these LDS pretreatment conditions: with hydrofluoric acid (HF) only, without HF, with a two-bottle bonding agent (Tokuyama Universal Bond II) only. Shear bond strengths between LDS and nine resin cements (both self-adhesive and conventional adhesive types) were measured at three time periods: after one-day water storage (Base), and after 5000 and 20,000 thermocycles (TC 5k and TC 20k respectively). Difference in degradation between one- and two-bottle bonding agents containing the silane coupling agent was compared by high-performance liquid chromatography. With HF pretreatment, bond strengths were not significantly different among the three time periods for each resin cement. Without HF, ESTECEM II and Super-Bond Universal showed significantly higher values than others at TC 5k and TC 20k when treated with the recommended bonding agents, especially at TC 20k. Difference in degradation between one- and two-bottle bonding agents containing the silane coupling agent was compared by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). For both cements, these values at TC 20k were also not significantly different from pretreatment with only Tokuyama Universal Bond II. For LDS, long-term bond durability could be maintained by pretreatment with Tokuyama Universal Bond II instead of the hazardous HF.

The stamping technique, a pivotal process, has undergone significant advancements with the integration of composites. Traditionally, direct or indirect restorative cements, e.g., amalgam or composite resin, have been used to restore teeth, often presenting challenges in achieving optimal fit, esthetics, and durability. This process begins with creating an accurate impression of the prepared tooth, which serves as a blueprint for crafting the restoration. In contrast, the stamp technique, also known as the indirect restoration technique, offers several distinct advantages. The stamping technique enables the use of advanced materials that offer superior esthetics and durability. Composite resins used in stamp restorations can be shade-matched to the patient's natural teeth, resulting in seamless integration with the smile. These materials also exhibit excellent strength and wear resistance, ensuring restorations that last longer and are capable of withstanding stresses without fracture.

The water-rich nature of the dentin bonding microenvironment, coupled with the stresses on the bonding interface, contributes to the hydrolytic degradation of the hybrid layer, resulting in a decline in bonding durability and, ultimately, restoration failure. Currently, the 3-step etch-and-rinse technique remains the gold standard for dentin bonding, and the bonding mechanism mainly involves a physical interaction with little chemical bonding. In this study, we have developed a siloxane-modified polyurethane monomer (SPU) with acrylate and siloxane modifications that chemically binds to both collagen and hydroxyapatite in dentin. Formulated as a bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate alternative, the SPU monomer-based adhesive was designed to improve dentin bonding quality and durability. Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, and hydroxyproline release assays were performed on SPU-treated collagen, hydroxyapatite, and acid-etched dentin slices to dentin. The physicochemical properties of the configured SPU adhesives were profiled for polymerization behavior, water contact angle, and tensile strain and strength. The bonding effectiveness was assessed through micro-tensile strength, nano-leakage tests conducted on the bonded samples before and after thermal cycle aging. Finally, we further conducted in vivo and in vitro experiments to assess the biocompatibility of adhesives. The results showed that the siloxane groups of SPU monomer could covalently bind to dentin collagen and hydroxyapatite. The incorporation of SPU in the adhesive led to a significant increase in adhesive polymerization (P < 0.05) and tensile strain at break up to 134.11%. Furthermore, the SPU adhesive significantly improved dentin bond strength (P < 0.05), reduced interfacial nano-leakage (P < 0.05), and displayed good biocompatibility. In conclusion, the application of SPU, which achieves dual chemical bonding with dentin, can improve the quality of the hybrid layer, buffer the interfacial stresses, enhance the interfacial resistance to hydrolysis, and provide a feasible strategy to extend the service life of adhesive restorations.

BACKGROUND: This study investigated the effect of carbodiimide (EDC) combined with Clearfil SE self-etch adhesive on the shear bond strength (SBS), crosslinking degree, denaturation temperature, and enzyme activity of dentin in vitro. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Collected human sound third molars were randomly divided into different groups with or without EDC treatment (0.01-1 M). The specimens (n = 16)were stored for 24 h (immediate) or 12 months (aging) before testing the SBS. Fine dentin powder was obtained and treated with the same solutions. Then the crosslinking degree, denaturation temperature (Td), and enzyme activity were tested. Statistical analysis was performed using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) to compare the differences of data between groups (α = 0.05). RESULTS: There was a significant drop in immediate SBS and more adhesive fracture of 1.0 M EDC group, while there were no significant differences among the other groups. SEM showed a homogeneous interface under all treatments. After 12 months of aging, the SBS significantly decreased. Less decreases of SBS in the 0.3 and 0.5 M groups were found. Due to thermal and enzymatical properties consideration, the 0.3 and 0.5 M treatments also showed higher cross-link degree and Td with lower enzyme activity. CONCLUSION: 0.3 and 0.5 M EDC may be favorable for delaying the aging of self-etch bond strength for 12 months. But it is still needed thoroughly study.

AIM: The aim of the study is to determine the difference in the shear bond strengths to dentin among dental composite (Filtek Z350®, 3M), compomer (Dyract Flow®, Dentsply) and Giomer (Beautifil®, Shofu) with 3MTM Single BondTM Universal Adhesive (SBU) (7th generation, self-etch, single solution adhesive) and AdperTM Single Bond 2 Adhesive (ASB) (5th generation, total-etch, two solution adhesive). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty extracted human permanent teeth were collected, cleansed of debris, and placed in distilled water. The samples were segregated into two groups depicting the two bonding agents-AdperTM (ASB) and 3MTM Single Bond Universal (SBU) and sub-grouped into three groups depicting the three restorative materials (Composite, Giomer, and Compomer) used. Groups were respresented as follows: Group I-ASB + Composite; Group II-ASB + Giomer; Group III-ASB + Compomer; Group IV-SBU + Giomer; Group V-SBU + Compomer; Group VI-SBU + Composite. After applying the bonding agent as per the manufacturer's instructions, following which the restorative material was placed. A Universal Testing Machine (Instron 3366, UK) was employed to estimate the shear bond strength of the individual restorative material and shear bond strengths were calculated. RESULTS: Composite bonded with SBU (group VI) displayed the greatest shear strength (11.16 ± 4.22 MPa). Moreover, Giomers and flowable compomers displayed better bond strengths with ASB compared with their SBU-bonded counterparts. CONCLUSION: These results mark the importance of careful material selection in clinical practice and the bonding agent used to achieve optimal bond strength and enhance the clinical longevity and durability of dental restorations. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: From a clinical perspective, to avoid a compressive or a shear failure, it would be preferrable to use a direct composite restorative material with SBU (Single bond universal adhesive, 7th generation) to achieve maximum bond strength. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of the pre-application of a dentin-bonding agent and the application of different lasers on the prevention of tooth discoloration caused by mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in the presence of blood. Sixty extracted human anterior teeth were selected, with root lengths standardized to 10 mm and root canals shaped using Gates-Glidden drills #3 to #5. The samples were divided into six groups (n = 10): Group 1 with no surface treatment and Groups 2 to 6 with Optibond universal adhesive and Neodymium yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG), Erbium yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG), Erbium-chromium-yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er:Cr:YSGG), and diode laser applications, respectively. Root canals were filled with fresh human blood, and ProRoot MTA and a collagen barrier were then placed. Color changes were measured with a spectrophotometer at 0, 7, 30, 90, and 180 days post MTA placement. Color differences (∆E) were analyzed using a two-factor mixed-design ANOVA with the Sidak method (p = 0.05). All treatment groups exhibited discoloration above the acceptability threshold. Although all treatment approaches exhibited less color change compared to the control group (p < 0.05), there was no significant difference among them in terms of preventing color change (p > 0.05). It was determined that none of the methods could guarantee 100% prevention of discoloration caused by MTA-blood contact.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of pomegranate solution (Punica granatum) on eroded dentin through antioxidant action, shear bond strength (SBS) and interface morphology. Materials and Methods: The 10% pomegranate peel extract was prepared by the lyophilization method. Punicalagin polyphenol was confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by capturing the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical. For the SBS, 48 dentin fragments were divided into sound or eroded, and subdivided according to the pretreatment (n = 12): water or P. granatum. The surfaces were restored with self-etch adhesive and a bulk-fill resin (Ecosite; DMG). The SBS was done immediately (24 hours) and after thermal cycling + water storage (12 months). For scanning electron microscopy, 48 dentin fragments (24 sound and 24 eroded) received the same treatments as for SBS (n = 6), and they were analyzed after 24 hours and 12 months. Results: The P. granatum had antioxidant action similar (p = 0.246) to the phenolic standard antioxidants. After 24 hours, eroded dentin had lower SBS than sound dentin (p < 0.001), regardless of the pretreatment. After 12 months, P. granatum maintained the SBS of sound dentin (13.46 ± 3.42 MPa) and eroded dentin (10.96 ± 1.90 MPa) statistically similar. The lowest values were found on eroded dentin treated with water (5.75 ± 1.65 MPa) (p < 0.001). P. granatum on eroded dentin caused peritubular demineralization and hybrid layer with resin tags. Conclusions: The pomegranate extract had antioxidant action and preserved the adhesive interface of the eroded dentin.

Aim: The present in vitro study aimed to comparatively evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of one light-cure and two dual-cure resin cement to bond lithium disilicate veneers. Materials and Methods: Thirty maxillary central incisors (n = 30) were procured and randomly divided into three groups of adhesive/resin cement systems, into groups of 10 each (n = 10); Group A: Adper Single Bond 2/RelyX Veneer Cement, Group B: Prime and Bond NT/Calibra, and Group C: Excite DSC/Variolink II. All the tooth samples were etched and respective bonding agent was applied. Similarly, all the laminate veneer specimens were etched, silanated, and treated with respective bonding agents before cementation with the respective resin cement. The SBS was measured in a universal testing machine with a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. Statistical Analysis: Data obtained were analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey's test at a 5% significance level. Results: The highest SBS was demonstrated by Group C (18.8 ± 0.92 Mpa), followed by Group B (18.4 ± 0.74) Mpa, and the least by Group A (17.4 ± 0.75 MPa). Significant differences were found between Group A, Group B, and Group C, respectively. However, Group B and Group C did not differ significantly from each other. Conclusions: Dual-cure resin cement have higher SBS than the light-cure variants.

Red-fluorescing dentine indicates bacterial contamination [Caries Res 2002; 36: 315-319]. We investigated effect of removal of red fluorescent dentine caries on shear bond strength and fracture mode of 4 adhesive approaches. Sixty-five carious teeth and 50 noncarious controls were distributed into 4 groups: Clearfil™ self-etch (CSE), OptiBond™ FL total etch (OTE), Scotchbond™ Universal total etch (STE) and self-etch (SSE). Samples were excited at 405 nm and viewed through 530 nm filter. Carious samples were ground flat exposing strongly red-fluorescing (StrongRF) dentine, on which a composite cylinder was placed, using one of 4 adhesives. After 22 h in water, shear bond strength and fracture mode were analysed. StrongRF was removed; composite cylinders were placed on weakly red-fluorescing (WeakRF) dentine and tested as described above. Finally, red-fluorescing dentine was removed, and composite cylinders were placed on non-fluorescing (NonRF) dentine and tested. Composites were placed at 3 corresponding heights in controls. After 22 h in water, shear bond strength testing and fracture mode analysis were performed. Differences were tested using Mann-Whitney or Wilcoxon tests (p ≤0.05). Median (Q1, Q3) shear bond strength on StrongRF was SSE 14.4 (9.2, 18.2) MPa >CSE 10.2 (6.4, 17.3) MPa >STE 9.1 (6.9, 11.2) MPa >OTE 6.8 (4.0, 10.8) MPa. Shear bond strength increased statistically significantly for all adhesives on WeakRF: SSE 19.8 (13.6, 24.3) MPa >STE 19.5 (12.7, 23.1) MPa >CSE 17.5 (12.0, 22.5) MPa >OTE 15.8 (11.9, 20.9) MPa. Only STE 25.6 (22.4, 29.1) MPa and CSE 22.1 (17.6, 24.6) MPa were significantly different on NonRF compared to WeakRF. For controls tested at corresponding depths, superficial shear bond strength was OTE 18.7 (16.0, 22.1) MPa >STE 18.4 (12.0, 25.9) MPa >CSE 18.1 (12.7, 20.7) MPa >SSE 13.0 (9.6, 17.8) MPa. This was significantly higher compared to StrongRF except for SSE. Central shear bond strength was not significantly different to WeakRF, deep shear bond strength was significantly lower for SSE and CSE but higher for OTE compared to carious. Conclusion: StrongRF dentine should be removed for higher shear bond strength, but WeakRF dentine can often be preserved without compromising adhesive bond strength.

OBJECTIVES: To assess visually and quantitatively the contributions of the adhesive layer photopolymerization and the subsequent resin composite increment to spatio-temporal maps of temperature at five different cavity locations, subjected to two irradiance curing protocols: standard and ultra-high. METHODS: Caries-free molars were used to obtain 40, 2 mm thick dentin slices, randomly assigned to groups (n = 5). These slices were incorporated within 3D-printed model cavites, 4 mm deep, restored with Adhese® Universal bonding agent and 2 mm thick Tetric® Powerfill resin composite, and photocured sequentially, as follows: G1: control-empty cavity; G2: adhesive layer; G3 composite layer with no adhesive; and G4 composite layer with adhesive. The main four groups were subdivided based on two curing protocols, exposed either to standard 10 s (1.2 W/cm2) or Ultra high 3 s (3 W/cm2) irradiance modes using a Bluephase PowerCure LCU. Temperature maps were obtained, via a thermal imaging camera, and numerically analyzed at 5 locations. The data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA followed by multiple one-way ANOVA, independent t-tests and Tukey post-hoc tests (α = 0.05). Tmax, ΔT, Tint (integrated area under the curve) and time-to-reach-maximum-temperature were evaluated. RESULTS: Two-way ANOVA showed that there was no significant interaction between light-curing time and location on the measured parameters (p > 0.05), except for the time-to-reach-maximum-temperature (p < 0.05). Curing the adhesive layer alone with the 10 s protocol resulted in a significantly increased pulpal roof temperature compared to 3 s cure (p < 0.05). Independent T-tests between G3 and G4, between 3 s and 10 s, confirmed that the adhesive agent caused no significant increases (p > 0.05) on the measured parameters. The ultra-high light-curing protocol significantly increased ΔT in composite compared to 10 s curing (p < 0.05). SIGNIFICANCE: When the adhesive layer was photocured alone in a cavity, with a 2 mm thick dentin floor, the exothermal release of energy resulted in higher temperatures with a 10 s curing protocol, compared to a 3 s high irradiance. But when subsequently photocuring a 2 mm layer of composite, the resultant temperatures generated at pulpal roof location from the two curing protocols were similar and therefore there was no increased hazard to the dental pulp from the immediately prior adhesive photopolymerization, cured via the ultra-high irradiation protocol.

AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strength and fracture mode of universal resin cement to dentin compared to self-adhesive and adhesive resin cement with and without an adhesive bonding agent. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-two molar teeth were sectioned to expose coronal dentin, divided into three groups, and assigned to RelyX Universal (universal), RelyX Ultimate (adhesive), or RelyX Unicem 2 (self-adhesive) cements from 3M. The 3 groups were further subdivided into 2 subgroups of 12 specimens each, with or without the use of an adhesive bonding agent. Lithium-disilicate discs were bonded to the dentin surface using the cements, stored for 24 hours in distilled water, and subjected to 2,000 thermocycles before shear bond strength testing and fracture mode analysis. RESULTS: Significant differences in bond strength and fracture mode were found between groups based on cement or the use of a bonding agent. Both the universal and adhesive cements had significantly greater bond strengths to dentin with the use of a bonding agent versus no bonding agent. With the self-adhesive cement, there was no significant increase in bond strength to dentin with the use of a bonding agent. CONCLUSION: The novel universal resin cement had similar bond strengths to dentin as the adhesive cement with the use of a bonding agent, and similar bond strengths as the self-adhesive cement without the use of a bonding agent. The adhesively bonded universal cement had the greatest percentage of mixed and cohesive fractures. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: When greater adhesion is needed clinically, the novel universal resin cement may be used with an adhesive bonding agent. However, when less adhesion is needed, it could be used without a bonding agent in self-adhesive mode.

BACKGROUND: Bonding between metal and ceramic is one of the most important aspects of a successful prosthesis. Various methods have been recommended for preparing the metal surface to enhance the bond between metal and ceramic including the use of a metal bonding agent. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate and compare the shear bond strength of the metal-ceramic (M-C) interface after combinations of various surface treatments including the application of a metal bonding agent. METHOD: 40 Ni-Cr alloy specimens were made and divided into 4 groups of 10 each based on the combination of surface treatments. Sandblasting, surface grinding, and Oxidation heat treatment (OHT) were performed on specimens from Group 1 (Control). In addition, Group 2 specimens received ultrasonic cleaning, Group 3 steam cleaning, and Group 4 metal bonding agent application. Following surface treatments on all specimens, porcelain build-up was performed, and shear bond strength was tested in a Digital Universal testing machine. The statistical tests used were independent t-test and ANOVA. RESULTS: Results revealed that Group 4 specimens had the highest mean value of shear bond strength of 39.087 MPa while Group 3 specimens showed the least mean shear bond strength of 18.154 MPa with highly statistically significant results (p< 0.001). CONCLUSION: The surface treatments and application of bonding agent to metal prior to porcelain application resulted in increased shear bond strength of the metal-ceramic interface.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of Chitosan 0.2% in various final cleaning methods on the bond strength of fiberglass post (FP) to intrarradicular dentin. Ninety bovine incisors were sectioned to obtain root remnants measuring 18 mm in length. The roots were divided: G1: EDTA 17%; G2: EDTA 17% + PUI; G3: EDTA 17% + EA; G4: EDTA 17% + XPF; G5: Chitosan 2%; G6: Chitosan 2% + PUI; G7: Chitosan 2% + EA; G8: Chitosan 2% +XPF. After carrying out the cleaning methods, the posts were installed, and the root was cleaved to generate two disks from each root third. Bond strength values (MPa) obtained from the micro push-out test data were assessed by using Kruskal-Wallis and Dwass-Steel-Critchlow-Fligner tests for multiple comparisons (α = 5%). Differences were observed in the cervical third between G1 and G8 (p = 0.038), G4 and G8 (p = 0.003), G6 and G8 (p = 0.049), and Control and G8 (p = 0.019). The final cleaning method influenced the adhesion strength of cemented FP to intrarradicular dentin. Chitosan 0.2% + XPF positively influenced adhesion strength, with the highest values in the cervical third.

OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study were to systematically review the literature and compare the relative effects of various luting agents on bonding between glass-fiber posts and root canal dentin in short- and long-term aging conditions. DATA/SOURCES: The literature was electronically searched in PubMed, Embase, and Scopus. A manual search was performed by scanning the reference lists of the included studies. STUDY SELECTION: Two reviewers independently conducted the selection of studies, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment. Pairwise meta-analyses were based on random effect models. Network meta-analyses were conducted within a frequentist framework with a multivariable random effects approach. The standardized mean difference and 95% confidence interval was calculated. RESULTS: One hundred and eighteen studies were included and assessed the effects of five luting agents. For pairwise meta-analyses, in short-term aging conditions, a significantly higher bond strength of self-adhesive resin cement (SARC) compared to etch-and-rinse adhesive composite resin core material (ERCM) in the total, coronal, and middle regions. In long-term aging conditions, a significantly higher bond strength of ERCM compared to etch-and-rinse adhesive resin cement (ERRC) in all regions. Furthermore, SARC showed a significantly higher bond strength compared to self-etch adhesive composite resin core material (SECM) in the total, middle, and apical regions. For network meta-analyses, in the apical region, a significantly higher bond strength of SARC compared to ERRC in both aging conditions. CONCLUSIONS: The SARC tended to be the most effective luting agent in bonding between glass-fiber posts and root canal dentin in short- and long-term aging conditions.

Background: In general, bioactive glasses (BAGs) can react with tissue minerals and promote remineralization. However, the application of BAG in bonding agents and its impact on bond strength remain uncertain due to insufficient information and limited research in this area. Materials and Methods: This study employed a randomized controlled design to assess the effects of composite-bonding agents with varying BAG contents on shear bond strength and fracture pattern in sound and demineralized teeth, with and without thermocycling. Thus, 80 healthy third molars were randomly divided into two groups: sound teeth and demineralized teeth. Five bonding agents were applied to the prepared dentin surfaces, including four experimental composite-bonding agents with varying BAG content (0, 0.2, 0.5, and 2 wt%) and the Adper Single Bond commercial bonding as control. The shear bond strength of all samples was measured using a universal tester. The type of failure of each specimen was determined using a stereomicroscope. Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test was performed on the obtained shear bond strength data followed by Mann-Whitney post hoc test with Bonferroni correction to determine statistical significance. The level of significance was considered P ≤ 0.05 for all tests and was adjusted by Bonferroni correction. Results: Demineralization significantly decreased shear bond strength in the teeth samples. Adper Single Bond exhibited the highest shear bond strength values. The addition of BAG did not have a significant influence on shear bond strength, regardless of demineralization or thermocycling condition. Adhesive failure was the predominant type of failure in all groups. Conclusion: The incorporation of BAG filler up to 2 wt% did not result in significant changes in shear bond strength. Experimental adhesive bonding agents with 2 wt% BAG content demonstrated shear bond strengths comparable to the commercial bonding agent in sound nontreated, sound thermocycled, demineralized nontreated, and demineralized thermocycled groups.

This study aimed to assess the efficacy of phototherapy with an Er, Cr:YSGG laser on the bond strength of dentin using two different adhesive systems after chlorhexidine (CHX) application. Twenty-four non-carious human molar teeth were separated into three main groups: negative control Group A (Group A), CHX and phototherapy with an Er, Cr:YSGG laser (Group PC), and CHX with conventional diamond bur (no phototherapy) (Group C). These groups were divided into two subgroups based on adhesives: Clearfil Universal Quick Bond and Clearfil SE Bond. To evaluate the microtensile bond strength, the occlusal enamel surfaces of the teeth were removed with a low-speed, water-cooled diamond bur to expose hard dentin tissue. The teeth within Group PC were treated with Er, Cr:YSGG phototherapy. The surfaces were then disinfected with 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate. Subgroups were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions using the adhesive systems mentioned above. Following adhesive application, the teeth were restored with composite resin. A microtensile bond strength test was performed on the test sticks obtained from the teeth using a universal test device. Data were analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA) at a significance level of p < 0.05. Among all groups, the highest bond strength was achieved with Clearfil SE Bond with CHX + phototherapy (45.6 ± 4.2), while the lowest was achieved with Clearfil Universal Quick Bond without phototherapy (control group) (27.0 ± 6.7) (p < 0.05). Phototherapy with Er, Cr: YSGG following chlorhexidine application enhanced the bond strength of both the bond systems (p < 0.05).

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Teethmate desensitizer, a dentin bonding agent (DBA), Nd:YAG laser, and Er:YAG laser, which provides dentin tubule occlusion in the pulp chamber with different mechanisms, in preventing tooth discoloration due to regenerative endodontic treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred five extracted maxillary human incisors with single roots and single canals were included in the study. The apical third of each tooth was resected below the enamel-cementum junction (CEJ) to obtain a standard root length as 10 ± 1 mm. Root canal preparation was performed using the ProTaper Next files up to X5. Root canals were prepared with Gates Glidden (# 2-4) burs to simulate the immature root apex and an apical diameter of 1.1 ± 0.1 mm was obtained. The teeth were randomly divided into 7 groups (n = 15): DBA, Teethmate, Nd:YAG, Er:YAG, Biodentine, Blood, and Negative Control. Relevant dentin tubule occlusion methods were applied to DBA, Teethmate, Nd:YAG, and Er:YAG groups. Following dentin tubule occlusion procedures, Biodentine was placed on the blood clot after filling the root canals with blood up to 4 mm below the CEJ. No dentin tubule occlusion procedure was applied for Blood and Biodentine groups. Color measurement was performed with the spectrophotometer Vita Easyshade Advance before treatment, immediately after treatment, and at days 7, 30, and 90. Data were converted to L*a*b color values of Commission International de I'Eclairage (CIE L*a*b) and ΔE values were calculated. Two-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey test (p = 0.05) were performed for statistical analysis. RESULTS: A clinically detectable color change was observed in all groups except for the negative control (ΔE ≥ 3,3). It was observed that Biodentine used alone has a potential for discoloration. It was determined that as the contact time with blood increased, tooth discoloration increased. However, no significant difference was found between dentin tubule occlusion methods in preventing color change (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: It was determined that no dentin tubule occlusion method could 100% prevent discoloration caused by RET. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: DBA and Teethmate, which do not have a significant difference in terms of preventing color change, are considered to be suitable for dentin tubule occlusion due to their ease of application and low cost compared to Nd:YAG laser and Er:YAG laser.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the current study was to evaluate outcomes of elective knee arthroscopy portal closure comparing two skin closure techniques. METHOD: This was a randomised controlled trial including healthy volunteers aged ≥18 years undergoing elective knee arthroscopy that used two portals. At the time of surgery, each patient's two arthroscopy portal closures were randomised to one of two closure techniques; the first technique used approximation of the skin with a micro-anchor skin dressing (BandGrip Inc., US), while the second closure technique used an absorbable suture (Biosyn Monofilament, Medtronic) and a liquid bonding agent skin closure (Dermabond, Ethicon Inc., US). Postoperative complications and patient-reported outcomes were evaluated at the first visit after knee arthroscopy and at six weeks postoperatively. RESULTS: A total of 38 patients (76 portals) were enrolled in this study. No patients reported wound complications of either portal; thus, there was no significant difference (p>0.05) in wound complication rates between the skin closure techniques. Survey questions regarding any difference in appearance and cosmesis between the closure techniques' portal sites were responded to by 15 patients, all of whom indicated no difference in appearance between the portal sites. There was also no statistically significant difference between the two closure techniques with regards to appearance. CONCLUSION: There was no significant difference in presence of wound complications or appearance between skin closure with the micro-anchor skin dressing and the absorbable suture/liquid bonding agent skin closure.

Introduction: Dental caries has been the most common disease affecting the human population. Once cavitated, the disease requires restoration. Dental adhesives used to bond composite resins to tooth structure have evolved over the last several decades. Composites were developed to meet the requirements of durable esthetics restorative material. The process of bonding occurred due to micromechanical interlocking between hydroxyapatite of enamel and resin. Over a period of time, bonding to enamel has become a reliable procedure. However, bonding to dentin has proven to be less predictable. In order to overcome the challenges, dental adhesive systems have evolved through several generations with changes in chemistry, mechanism, number of bottles, application techniques, and clinical effectiveness. Case details: The "self-etch" system is especially attractive to pediatric dentistry because of its "fewer steps" and "lesser time." One product launched as a self-etching self-adhesive flowable composite Constic (DMG, Germany), a new three- in -one flowable composite that combines etching gel, bonding agent, and flowable composite in one single product which has multiple benefits over conventional products. Such a material can be of true advantage as it allows for single-step application, less technique sensitivity, and reduced chair time. In light of this knowledge, this paper will focus on two commonly performed procedures in the general practitioner's office, that is, the placement of small class I composite resin restorations and the placement of pit and fissure sealants on permanent molars in pediatric patients. Background: Incomplete monomer infiltration into the etched dentin causes postoperative sensitivity (POS) with total-etch adhesives. Increasing the temperature of the air to dry the adhesive has shown to improve its infiltration into the dentin. Aims: The aim of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of dry air temperatures of 15°C ± 5°C and 50°C ± 5°C on the POS, depth of penetration, and bond strength of an ethanol/water-based etch-and-rinse (ER) adhesive under in vivo and in vitro conditions. Methods: Forty-four premolars from 11 patients scheduled for orthodontic extraction were allocated into cold air (Group 1) and warm air (Group 2) groups using a split-mouth design. A 2 mm × 2 mm × 2 mm cavity was prepared on the middle third of the buccal surface of the teeth, acid etched, and two coats of an ethanol/water-based adhesive resin mixed with 0.1% rhodamine B was applied for 10 s. A dental air gun customized to deliver warm and cold air was used to dry the adhesive prior to its light polymerization. The cavities were restored with resin composite incrementally. POS was assessed using visual analog scale at 24 and 72 h using cold test. The teeth were atraumatically extracted and analyzed for depth of adhesive penetration using confocal laser scanning microscope (n = 11) and push-out bond strength (n = 11). Statistical Analysis Used: The data were analyzed using sample t-test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test (P < 0.05). Results: A significantly lower POS and greater adhesive penetration into the dentin was observed in the warm air group compared to cold air (P < 0.05). No significant difference could be elicited between the push-out bond strength of both the groups (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Warm air alleviated POS and improved the penetration of an ethanol/water-based ER adhesive into the dentin.
