RESUMO

Background: The effects of the drug-coated balloon (DCB)-only strategy in the treatment of chronic total occlusion (CTO) coronary lesions remain controversial. Patients who underwent an in-stent restenosis (ISR) CTO percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) had a significantly poorer prognosis than those who underwent a de novo CTO PCI. This retrospective analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of the DCB-only strategy in the treatment of CTO lesions, and the factors associated with adverse events in the patients. Methods: Patients with CTO lesions who were treated with the DCB-only strategy from 1 January 2016 to 1 May 2021 were retrospectively enrolled in this study. The patients were stratified into the ISR and de novo (primary) groups. All the patients were re-admitted to the hospital and underwent clinical and/or angiographic follow-up. Results: Of the 68 patients with CTO lesions, 38 (55.9%) were categorized as having ISR, and 30 (44.1%) were categorized as having de novo lesions. The outcomes measured included target lesion revascularization (TLR), lumen gain after intervention, and late lumen loss (LLL). After an average follow-up period of 16 months, a total of 15 patients experienced target lesion failure (13 in the ISR group and 2 in the de novo group). The rate of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) was significantly lower in the de novo group than the ISR group (10% vs. 39%, P=0.004). There was a significant difference in LLL between the two groups, with the de novo group showing a decrease (-0.04±0.83 mm) and the ISR group showing an increase (0.97±1.45 mm) (P=0.03). The univariable Cox proportional hazard analyses revealed that the incidence of TLR was independently associated with the stenosis type (either ISR or de novo lesions) [odds ratio (OR): 7.28; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.494-35.464; P=0.01]. Male gender (OR: 3.726; 95% CI: 1.014-12.818; P=0.03) and body mass index (BMI) (OR: 1.246; 95% CI: 1.022-1.518, P=0.03) were also associated with the incidence of TLR. However, after adjusting for the variables of age, gender, and BMI, no significant association was found between MACE occurrence and ISR (OR: 4.156, 95% CI: 0.734-23.522; P=0.11). Conclusions: Treatment using the DCB-only strategy was found to be beneficial for patients suffering from CTO coronary lesions, especially those presenting with de novo lesions.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of drug-coated balloon (DCB) with high-dose paclitaxel for the treatment of restenotic dysfunctional arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this single-arm, multicenter, prospective, observational study, 334 patients using IN.PACT AV DCB (Medtronic Inc., Plymouth, MN) for the first time in the restenotic lesion of dysfunctional AVF between April 2021 and March 2022 were registered. RESULTS: Procedural success, defined as <30% residual stenosis, was achieved in 96.7% of cases. During a median follow-up of 7.4 months, 179 target lesion reinterventions (TLRs) were observed, and the 6-month freedom from TLR was 73.2% (68.2%-78.2%). When compared with the previous plain percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, the median time to reintervention was significantly longer with DCB (9.1 [8.0-10.6] versus 3.2 [3.0-3.4] months; P<.001). Baseline characteristics that were independently associated with TLR were: months from the last intervention (adjusted hazard ratio, 0.50 [95% confidence interval, 0.40-0.62] per doubling; P<.001), partial lesion coverage by DCB (2.13 [1.10-4.12]; P=.024), and residual stenosis after DCB (2.19 [1.53-3.12] per 15% increase; P<.001) with its time interaction (0.91 [0.86-0.97] per month; P=.003). Of the 179 TLRs, 84 used DCB once again. The median time to reintervention was significantly longer for TLR using DCB (7.1 [6.2-9.7] versus 3.3 [3.1-4.0] months; P<.001). CONCLUSIONS: DCB with high-dose paclitaxel is effective at both the initial treatment in the restenotic lesion of dysfunctional AVF and during TLR after DCB use. However, partial lesion coverage by DCB and residual stenosis should be avoided.

BACKGROUND: We previously showed non-inferiority of a low-dose paclitaxel-coated balloon (PCB) with citrate excipient (Agent PCB) as compared to normal-dose iopromide excipient (SeQuent Please PCB) in terms of angiographic and clinical endpoints at 12 months. The long-term clinical efficacy and safety of Agent PCB is not defined. METHODS: 262 patients (323 DES-ISR lesions) were enrolled in this study and treated with either Agent PCB (125 patients, 151 lesions) in the ISAR-DESIRE 3a trial or with SeQuent Please PCB (137 patients, 172 lesions) in the setting of the randomized ISAR-DESIRE 3 trial with similar in- and exclusion criteria serving as historical control arm. The follow-up period was extended to 7 years. The efficacy and safety endpoints of this analysis were target-lesion revascularization (TLR), death, myocardial infarction (MI) and target lesion thrombosis (TLT) at 7 years. RESULTS: At 7 years, 206 patients (78.6%) were alive. The risks of TLR (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.29, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.87-1.90; p = 0.205), death (HR: 1.38, 95% CI: 0.82-2.35; p = 0.227), MI (HR: 1.10, 95% CI: 0.39-3.15; p = 0.852) and TLT (HR: 2.18, 95% CI: 0.20-24.10; p = 0.523) were comparable between Agent PCB and SeQuent PCB. Multivariate analysis showed comparable risks of TLR, death and MI between both PCB devices. CONCLUSIONS: In patients treated for DES-ISR by angioplasty with Agent PCB and SeQuent Please PCB, there was no statistically significant difference in TLR at 7 years. Randomized trials with standardized lesion preparation and long-term follow-up are warranted to further evaluate comparative efficacy of both devices. (ClinicalTrials. gov Identifier: NCT02367495).

RESUMO

The Magic Touch sirolimus-coated balloon (SCB) was recently introduced in Europe and features robust clinical technology different from other devices on the market. This device is able to deliver a sufficient sirolimus dose to the target segment to reduce neointimal proliferation with very little exposure downstream and no apparent adverse effects at sustained high drug concentrations. The SCB represents a promising novelty within the drug-coated balloon arena due to its mid-term efficacy and safety in the treatment of coronary artery disease, especially in de novo and small-vessel coronary lesions. The purpose of this article is to provide an up-to-date overview of the currently available animal and clinical trial results, as well as to highlight ongoing trials on the Magic Touch SCB.


Among modern drug-coated balloons, Magic Touch features Nanolutè technology, which allows effective and rapid sirolimus release and retention for 8­12 weeks. Previous and ongoing trials are showing good clinical performance with sustained safety.

Background/Objectives: The need to determine the safest duration of dual antiplatelet therapy duration after elective angioplasty to reduce bleeding events without an adverse effect on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) remains a challenge. Methods: In this investigator-initiated, single-centre cohort study, we identified all patients who underwent PCI for de novo coronary disease for stable angina between January 2015 and November 2019. We compared 1-month and 12-month durations of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) to determine if there was any difference in the primary outcome of major bleeding. The secondary outcome was a patient-oriented composite endpoint of all-cause mortality; any myocardial infarction, stroke, or revascularisation; and the individual components of this composite endpoint. Data were analysed using Cox regression models and cumulative hazard plots. Results: A total of 1025 patients were analysed, of which 340 received 1 month of DAPT and 685 received 12 months of DAPT. There was no difference in major bleeding between the two groups (2.6% vs. 2.5% respectively). On univariable cox regression analysis, no characteristics were predictors of major bleeding. A proportion of 99.7% of patients in the 1-month DAPT arm were treated with a DCB strategy, whilst 93% in the 12-month DAPT group were treated with a DES. There was no difference between the two groups with regards to the composite patient-oriented MACE (11% vs. 12%, respectively) or any individual component of this. These results were unchanged after propensity score matched analysis. Conclusions: A 1-month duration of DAPT, for which 99.7% of patients were treated with a DCB strategy, appears safe and effective when compared with a 12-month duration of DAPT with no difference in major bleeding or MACE.

INTRODUCTION: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-coated balloon (DCB) is an attractive strategy for the treatment of obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). The implantation technique strongly influences the outcome of DCB PCI: accurate and adequate lesion preparation, short delivery time and sufficient DCB inflation time are deemed crucial to warrant adequate drug transfer and mitigate the risk of immediate vessel recoil and flow-limiting dissections. However, the optimal DCB inflation time is unclear, current consensus documents suggesting 30-60 s based on Experts' opinion. However, clinical studies comparing the prognostic role of different inflation times are scarce and mainly involve paclitaxel-coated balloons. In this study we aimed to assess the impact of different inflation times in patients undergoing PCI with a sirolimus-coated balloon (SCB). METHODS: We conducted a post-hoc analysis of the prospective, multicenter, EASTBOURNE study, classified into two study groups according to balloon inflation time: long (>30 s) versus short (≤30 s). The primary endpoint was target lesion revascularization (TLR) at 24-month follow-up. Secondary clinical endpoints were major adverse clinical events (MACE), death, non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI), and BARC 2-5 bleedings. Furthermore, angiographic endpoints (the rate of bailout stenting and post-procedural TIMI flow <3) were also addressed. RESULTS: A total of 2289 lesions (2092 in the long inflation group, 197 in the short inflation group) were included in the analysis. Median balloon inflation time was 60 s in the long inflation and 30 s in the short inflation group. The two study groups experienced a similar rate of TLR [6.2 % in the short versus 6.3 % in the long inflation group, p = 1.00] as well MACE (p = 0.683), death (p = 0.102), non-fatal MI (p = 0.822), and BARC 2-5 bleedings (p = 0.252). These results were consistent when considering subpopulations with different target lesion phenotypes (in-stent restenosis, de-novo lesions, large and small vessels). Interesting, the rate of bailout stent implantation and post-procedural TIMI flow <3 was higher in the short SCB inflation time, as compared to the standard strategy. CONCLUSIONS: Short vs. long SCB inflation time is associated with a higher need of bailout stenting after PCI with SCB, with similar clinical outcomes at 24-month follow-up.

Multiple clinical trials have reported favorable outcomes after drug-coated balloon therapy for peripheral artery disease in above-the-knee and below-the-knee lesions and in both de novo and in-stent restenosis. However, there are still insufficient data to identify and tackle the risk factors associated with a higher risk of restenosis, which is the primary concern for patients who are treated with an endovascular approach. A modern armamentarium, which includes improved lesion preparation techniques such as plaque modification balloons, mechanical atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, and imaging, is crucial for obtaining better long-term clinical outcomes. Moreover, a better understanding of the molecular properties of drug-coated balloons has led to improved devices that could tackle the shortcomings of previous generations. This comprehensive review focuses on drug-coated balloon technology as a tool to treat peripheral artery disease and the effects of the molecular mechanisms involved in preventing vascular restenosis.

Background: Concerns regarding restenosis after treatment with drug-coated balloons (DCB) remain. We aimed to identify the incidence of target lesion revascularization (TLR) and explore clinical, procedural, and other factors influencing it. Methods: Single-center retrospective analysis of a prospective cohort PCI registry study included 80 patients (100 lesions) who underwent successful DCB angioplasty between January 2020 and October 2023 and follow-up angiography within 2 years of either planned or unplanned reason. Incidence and factors associated with TLR were analyzed. Results: Angiographic evaluation was conducted within a median of 151 days (interquartile range: 109 days). During index procedure, 54% were complex lesions. Intravascular imaging (IVI) was performed in 80% of lesions. TLR occurred in 11% of the lesions and was less frequent in the IVI group compared to the angiography-alone group [6.3 vs. 54.5%; odds ratio: 0.156, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.042-0.580; p = 0.002]. No association was found between baseline and lesion characteristics, lesion complexity, plaque morphology, pre-dilatation procedure balloon type, maximal inflation pressure, or length of DCB between the groups (p > 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that IVI utilization was independently associated with a lower TLR rate (adjusted odds ratio: 0.116, 95% CI: 0.020-0.669; p = 0.016). Conclusion: In DCB angioplasty, only IVI use exhibited a significant difference in the TLR rate among baseline lesion characteristics and lesion preparation and was independently associated with a lower TLR rate.

In order to study the degradation process of dioxins in industrial flue gas, the decomposition of o-dichlorobenzene (o-DCB) in a DBD plasma catalytic reactor was investigated. The results showed that an NTP-catalyzed system, especially using the CuMnTiOx catalyst, had better o-DCB degradation performance compared to plasma alone. The combination of the CuMnTiOx catalyst with NTP can achieve a degradation efficiency of up to 97.2% for o-DCB; the selectivity of CO and CO2 and the carbon balance were 40%, 45%, and 85%, respectively. The dielectric constant and electrical property results indicated that the surface discharge capacity of the catalysts played a major role in the degradation of o-DCB, and a higher dielectric constant could suppress the plasma expansion and enhance the duration of the plasma discharge per discharge cycle. According to the O1s XPS and O2-TPD results, the conversion of CO to CO2 follows the M-v-K mechanism; thus, the active species on the catalyst surface play an important role. Moreover, the CuMnTiOx and NTP mixed system exhibited excellent stability, which is probably because Cu doping improved the lifetime of the catalyst. This work can provide an experimental and theoretical basis for research in the degradation of o-DCB by plasma catalyst systems.

Gallium (Ga) is an emerging chemical pollutant chiefly associated with high-tech industries. Boron (B) alleviates the negative effects of toxic elements on plant growth. Thereby, the effects of B fertilization on Ga toxicity in rice seedlings was studied to clarify the role of iron plaque in the distribution of Ga, Fe, and B in Ga-treated rice seedlings in the presence or absence of B. Gallium exposure significantly reduced the biomass of rice seedlings. Boron deficiency induced a significant change in the distribution of B in Ga-treated rice seedlings compared with "Ga+B" treatments. Accumulation of Ga in roots, dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate (DCB) extracts, and shoots showed a dose-dependent manner from both +B and -B rice seedlings. Boron nutrition levels affect the distribution of Fe in roots, DCB extracts, and shoots, in which DCB-extractable Fe was significantly decreased from "Ga-B" treatments compared with "Ga+B" treatments. Root activity was significantly decreased in both Ga-exposed rice seedlings; however, B-deficient seedlings showed a severe reduction than +B rice seedlings. These results reveal that Fe plaque might be a temporary sink for B accumulation when plants are grown with proper B, wherein the re-utilization of DCB-extractable B stored in Fe plaque is mandatory for plant growth under B deficiency. Correlation analysis revealed that B deficiency decreased the root activity of Ga-exposed rice seedlings by reducing DCB-extractable Fe and increasing DCB-extractable Ga in Fe plaque. This study enhances our understanding of how B nutritional levels affect Ga toxicity in rice plants.

BACKGROUND: Treatment of patients with recurrence of in-stent restenosis (ISR) remains particularly challenging, with data and guideline recommendations for repeat percutaneous coronary intervention being scant. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term incidence of recurrent revascularization events after percutaneous treatment of drug-eluting stent (DES) ISR. METHODS: In this post hoc analysis, 402 patients (500 lesions) assigned to plain balloon (PB), drug-coated balloon (DCB), or DES treatment in the randomized ISAR-DESIRE 3 (Efficacy Study of Paclitaxel-Eluting Balloon, -Stent vs. Plain Angioplasty for Drug-Eluting Stent Restenosis) trial were followed up over a median of 10.3 years. The primary endpoint was total repeat target lesion revascularization (R-TLR) including all, first and recurrent, events. RESULTS: At the end of follow-up, first R-TLR was required in 204 lesions, 82 in the PB group, 70 in the DCB group, and 52 in the DES group. The total number of R-TLRs was 373: 162 in the PB group, 124 in the DCB group, and 87 in the DES group. During the first year of follow-up, the risk for total R-TLR was reduced by DCB (HR: 0.36; 95% CI: 0.24-0.54) and DES (HR: 0.23; 95% CI: 0.14-0.38) treatment compared with PB treatment. After 1 year, the risk for total R-TLR was nonsignificantly reduced by DCB treatment (HR: 0.77; 95% CI: 0.51-1.16) and significantly reduced by DES treatment (HR: 0.61; 95% CI: 0.39-0.95) compared with PB treatment. Risk in the DCB and DES groups was similar during (HR: 1.54; 95% CI: 0.89-2.69) and after (HR: 1.26; 95% CI: 0.82-1.92) 1 year. CONCLUSIONS: The total number of R-TLRs over 10 years after treatment of patients with DES ISR was high. DCBs and particularly DES were able to reduce the need for both first and recurrent revascularization compared with PB treatment.

BACKGROUND: The RET gene, which is frequently mutated across many types of cancer, has been proven to be critically involved in tumorigenesis and tumour development; however, its prediction of the therapeutic efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy remains to be elucidated. The present research aims to investigate the association between RET mutations and the efficiency of ICI therapy. METHOD: We analysed the role of RET mutations in predicting the prognosis of patients receiving ICIs therapy in the discovery cohort and validated it in the validation cohort. Then, multi-omics data from TCGA pan-cancer cohort was employed to propose the association between RET mutations and tumour inflamed anti-tumour immune response and tumour antigenicity. RESULTS: Our study revealed that among 606 cases and across five types of cancer, RET mutation was associated with better clinical outcomes for ICIs therapy, including elevated response rate, longer progression-free survival PFS, and longer overall survival OS. Multivariate analysis showed that RET mutation could independently predict the prognosis of patients treated with ICIs, after adjusting cancer types. The predictive value of RET status for the OS of patients treated with ICIs immunotherapy was further validated in the validation cohort (n = 1,409). Subgroup analysis suggested that only the monotherapy group showed significant differences in OS(P < 0.05) and PFS(P < 0.05) between RET-wildtype tumours and RET-mutant tumours. Multi-omics data analysis revealed potential anti-tumour immunity mechanisms of RET mutations, suggesting that RET-mutant tumours have enhanced immunogenicity, higher expression of immune checkpoints and chemokines, and higher immune cell infiltration than those observed in RET-wildtype tumours; thus, potentially indicating a more favourable response to immunotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: RET mutation may be a predictive biomarker of enhanced response to ICIs therapy. Extensive investigation of the underlying molecular mechanisms and prospective studies are needed in the future.

BACKGROUND: Drug-coated balloons (DCBs) are an established strategy for coronary artery disease. However, the new generation drug-eluting stent (DES) is recommended for patients with Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) for coronary artery revascularization. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive appraisal of the efficacy of DCBs in patients with AMI undergoing PCI. METHODS: We searched the WOS, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane CENTRAL till March 2023, for studies that compared DCBs versus DES in patients with AMI undergoing PCI. We used a random-effects model to compare major adverse cardiac events (MACE), cardiac death, all-cause death, myocardial infarction, target lesion revascularization (TLR), stent thrombosis, Late lumen Loss (LLL), and minimum lumen diameter (MLD) between the two groups. RESULTS: Thirteen studies comprising 2644 patients were included. The pooled OR showed non-inferiority of DCB over DES in terms of MACE (OR = 0.89, 95% CI [0.57 to 1.40], p = 0.63). When we defined MACE as a composite of cardiac death, MI, and TLR; the pooled OR favored DCB over DES (OR = 0.50, 95% CI [0.28 to 0.9], p = 0.02). Moreover, DCB was not inferior to DES in terms of all-cause mortality (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.43 to 1.8, p = 0.73), cardiac mortality, (OR = 0.59, 95% CI: 0.22 to 1.56, p = 0.29), MI (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.34 to 2.29, p = 0.79), stent thrombosis (OR = 1.21, 95% CI: 0.35 to 4.23, p = 0.76), TLR (OR = 0.9, 95% CI: 0.43 to 1.93, p = 0.8), LLL (MD = -0.6, 95% CI: -0.3 to 0.19, p = 0.64), or MLD (MD = -0.4, 95% CI: -0.33 to 0.25, p = 0.76). CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis indicated that DCB intervention was not inferior to DES in the PCI setting in patients with AMI, and can be recommended as a feasible strategy in AMI. Beyond the tolerance limit, the toxicity of petroleum pollution to soil organisms may increase rapidly with the increase of petroleum content. However, the method for evaluating the petroleum tolerance limit of soil organic matter (SOM) is still lacking. In this study, the petroleum saturation limit in SOM was first evaluated by the sorption coefficient (Kd) of 1,2-dichlorobenzene (DCB) from water to soils containing different petroleum levels. The sorption isotherm of dichlorobenzene in several petroleum-contaminated soils with different organic matter content and the microbial toxicity test of several petroleum-contaminated soils were determined. It is found that when the petroleum content is about 5% of the soil organic matter content, the sorption of petroleum to organic matter reached saturation limit. When organic matter reaches petroleum saturation limit, the sorption coefficient of DCB by soil particles increased linearly with the increase of petroleum content (R2 > 0.991). The results provided important insights into the understanding the fate of petroleum pollutants in soil and the analysis of soil toxicity.

OBJECTIVE: The article aimed to compare the efficiency and safety of atherectomy plus balloon angioplasty (BA) with BA alone for the treatment of infrapopliteal arterial disease. METHODS: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library database were searched for studies comparing atherectomy plus angioplasty and angioplasty alone in treating infrapopliteal artery lesions until November 2022. The endpoints included technical success, primary patency, clinically-driven target lesion revascularization (CD-TLR), periprocedural complications, distal embolization, target limb major amputation, and all-cause mortality. RESULTS: Ten studies met the requirements of our meta-analysis, including 7723 patients in the atherectomy plus BA group and 2299 patients in the BA alone group. The meta-analysis showed that atherectomy plus BA was associated with reduced CD-TLR (odds ratio [OR]: 0.51, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.34, 0.78, p=0.002) and target limb major amputation (OR: 0.43, 95% CI: 0.19, 1.01, p=0.05) at 12-month follow-up. No statistically significant difference was found in technical success, primary patency, periprocedural complications, distal embolization, or all-cause mortality. Subgroup analysis found a higher rate of primary patency at 6 and 12 months (6 months: OR: 2.26, 95% CI: 1.11, 4.60, p=0.02; 12 months: OR: 2.38, 95% CI: 1.16, 4.86, p=0.02), and lower rates of CD-TLR (OR: 0.45, 95% CI: 0.25, 0.82, p=0.009) and target limb major amputation (OR: 0.43, 95% CI: 0.19, 1.01, p=0.05) at 12 months in patients treated with atherectomy plus drug-coated balloon (DCB) but not in patients treated with atherectomy plus plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA). CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis suggests that compared with BA alone, atherectomy plus BA may reduce the need for CD-TLR and the incidence of target limb major amputation at 12-month follow-up in the treatment of infrapopliteal artery occlusive lesions, even though there are no significant advantages in technical success, primary patency, periprocedural complications, distal embolization, or all-cause mortality. To go further, atherectomy plus DCB shows significant benefits in primary patency, CD-TLR, and target limb major amputation rate but atherectomy plus POBA does not'. However, due to the limitations of this article, more randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are needed to confirm these conclusions. CLINICAL IMPACT: According to our research, atherectomy combined with BA has the advantages of higher primary patency rate, lower CD-TLR and target limb significant amputation rate in treating infrapopliteal artery occlusive lesions, which may replace the current mainstream surgical method ---BA alone. For the clinician, although the surgery may take longer, it will significantly improve the prognosis and quality of life of patients and hold considerable significance for the management of patients with infrapopliteal arterial disease. Based on the characteristics of infrapopliteal artery disease, this study explored the feasibility of atherectomy combined with BA for infrapopliteal artery disease. Moreover, we found that atherectomy combined with DCB had better clinical efficacy, which should be the innovation of this study.

European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines gave class I A indication for use of DCB in in-stent restenosis. However, no indication exists for the usage of DCB in de novo lesions. Although the current generation DES offer excellent results, as we embark more complex lesions such as calcified lesion and chronic total occlusion, restenosis and stent thrombosis are higher and tend to increase within the years. There is increasing desire to leave nothing behind to abolish the risk of restenosis and stent thrombosis and hence the absorbable scaffolds were introduced, but with disappointing results. In addition, they take several years to be absorbed. Drug coated balloons offer an alternative to stents with no permanent implant of metal or polymer. They are already in use in in Europe and Asia and they have been approved for the first time in the United States for clinical trials specifically for restenotic lesions. There is emerging data in de novo lesions which have shown that DCB are noninferior and in some studies maybe even superior to current generation DES especially in small vessels. In this article, we provide a comprehensive review of the literature on this expanding technology focussing on the evidence in both re-stenotic and de novo lesions.

The aim of this work was to examine the structure and gene cluster of O-OPS of S. xiamenensis strain DCB-2-1 and survey its conceivability for chelating uranyl, chromate and vanadate ions from solution. O-polysaccharide (OPS, O-antigen) was isolated from the lipopolysaccharide of Shewanella xiamenensis DCB-2-1 and studied by 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and sugar analysis. The following structure of the brunched pentasaccharide was established: where d-ß-GlcpA(d-Ala) is d-glucuronic acid acylated with NH group of d-Ala. The OPS structure established is unique among known bacterial polysaccharide structures. Interestingly, that dN-(d-glucuronoyl)-d-alanine derivative is not found in bacterial polysaccharides early. The O-antigen gene cluster of Shewanella xiamenensis strain DCB-2-1 has been sequenced. The gene functions were tentatively assigned by comparison with sequences in the available databases and found to be in agreement with the OPS structure. Based on the analysis of the IR spectra of the isolated polysaccharide DCB-2-1 and the products of its interaction with UO2(NO3)2 ∗ 6H2O, NH4VO3 and K2Cr2O7, a method of binding them can be proposed. Laboratory experiments show that the use of polysaccharide can be effective in removing uranyl, chromate and vanadate from solution.
