RESUMO

As an important branch of robotics, soft robots have the advantages of strong flexibility, a simple structure, and high safety. These characteristics enable soft robots to be widely used in various fields such as biomedicine, military reconnaissance, and micro space exploration. However, contemporary soft crawling robots still face problems such as the single drive mode and complex external equipment. In this study, we propose an innovative design of an inchworm-like soft crawling robot utilizing the synergistic interaction of electricity and moisture for its hybrid dual-drive locomotion. The legs of the soft robot are mainly made of GO-CNT/PE composite film, which can convert its own volume expansion into a corresponding bending motion after being stimulated by electricity or moisture. Unlike other drive methods, it requires less power and precision from external devices. The combination of the two driving methods greatly improves the environmental adaptability of the soft robot, and we developed visible light as the driving method on the basis of the dual drive. Finally, we also verified the robot's excellent load capacity, climbing ability, and optical drive effect, which laid the foundation for the application of soft robots in the future.

RESUMO

In order to elucidate the importance of grafting in the compatibilization process of silane coupling agents, poplar veneer was treated with silane coupling agents and grafted under different heating conditions. The treated veneers were used composited with PE film to prepare different plywood samples. XPS and WCA were used to analyze the effect of grafting conditions on the surface properties of the silane-treated veneer. The results showed that free silanols can physically be adsorbed onto all silane-treated veneer surfaces, forming hydrogen-Si-O-Si- bonds and therefore increasing the water contact angle. Only under heating conditions could the -Si-O-Si- be converted into covalent -Si-O-C- bonds, which helped to improve the bonding strength. When silane-treated veneer was grafted at 120 °C for 90 min, the tensile shear strength of plywood reached 1.03 MPa, meeting the requirements of GB/T 9846.3-2004 for outdoor materials. Enhanced interlock between silane-modified veneer and PE film was observed under the optimal grafting condition by SEM. The better interface structure allowed improvement of thermal stability. DMA results showed that the retention rate in storage modulus at 130 °C was 60% for the grafted sample, while the retention rate for the ungrafted sample was only 31%.

RESUMO

Polyethylene (PE) exists widely in many habitats as a persistent organic pollution and poses a major threat to the ecological environment. In this study, bacterial communities in freshwater lake sediments were exposed to culture media using PE films as the sole carbon source in aerobic and anaerobic microculture environments, and they were able to adhere and adapt to the PE films for a longer period of time. The results demonstrated that the pH value of the medium in the two cultural conditions was distinct, as were the rates of films weight loss and surface functional group alterations. We also concluded the certain bacterial genera from freshwater lake sediments who may be able to degrade PE films under either aerobic or anaerobic conditions. Simultaneously, the dominating bacterial communities between the medium and the film differed significantly under two cultural settings, as did the community composition, while metabolism was the primary function.

RESUMO

To investigate the effects of plastic film mulches and their residual films after use on soil bacterial communities, mulching experiment and the subsequent residual film experiment were conducted on winter-planting potato field in two locations. During mulching experiment, treatments biodegradable film mulch (BM) and PE film mulch (PM) reduced soil nutrient regarding available nitrogen and available potassium, as well as microbial biomass carbon (MBC), but increased urease activity, as compared to treatment no film mulch (NM). Soil moisture was significantly elevated by mulching practices and correlated with more microbial phyla than the other tested soil properties, indicating its important role in shaping soil bacterial communities. In addition, mulching practices increased alpha diversity of soil bacteria, although location heterogeneity was observed. Network analyses showed that both treatments BM and PM promoted the interrelations within bacterial communities and harbored more keystone taxa than treatment NM. During residual film experiment, residual films from BM and PM were incorporated into soil after harvest of potato. Treatment residual biodegradable film (RBF) significantly increased the content of MBC and activity of ß-glucosidase (BG) as compared to treatments residual PE film (RPF) and no residual film (NRF), and BG had the most correlations with microbial phyla among all the tested soil properties. Treatments RBF and RPF increased the relative abundance of some dominant bacterial phyla, including Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, and Chlorofexi, and enhanced the interrelations within bacterial community, whereas more keystone taxa were harbored by treatment RBF, due to the increase of keystone taxa in phyla Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Proteobacteria. These results indicate that the indirect effects of biodegradable and PE film mulch as a soil surface barrier on soil are similar, whereas their direct effects via incorporation into soil as residual films show specificity.

RESUMO

In this paper, we report on polyethylene (PE) film modified by atmospheric dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma prior to the deposition of SiOx coating to improve its barrier properties. Three kinds of monomers: allylamine, acrylic acid, and ethanol, are used to modify the PE surface. For comparison, Ar and O2 plasma pre-treatments are also performed. It is found that with the addition of a monomer in the Ar DBD plasma, the grafted active groups on PE surfaces lead to dense, pinhole-free growth of the SiOx film. The oxygen transmission rate (OTR) decreases from 700 cc/m²·day·atm. for the pristine to ca. 70 cc/m²·day·atm. for the pretreatment-coated PE, which is more than a 10-fold reduction. The relationship between the grafted monomer and the great decrease of OTR is then explored via chemical composition by attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and via morphology observation by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the grafted functional groups of -NH2, -COOH and -OH increase the surface energy and promote the nucleation of Si⁻O radicals on polymeric surfaces, and the formation of network and cage structures in SiOx film contributes to the significant improvement of OTR.
