Arid and semi-arid areas are facing increasingly severe water deficits that are being intensified by global climate changes. Microbes associated with plants native to arid regions provide valuable benefits to plants, especially in water-stressed environments. In this study, we used 16S rDNA metabarcoding analysis to examine the bacterial communities in the bulk soil, rhizosphere and root endosphere of the plant Malva sylvestris L. in Morocco, along a gradient of precipitation. We found that the rhizosphere of M. sylvestris did not show significant differences in beta-diversity compared to bulk soil, although, it did display an increased degree of alpha-diversity. The endosphere was largely dominated by the genus Rhizobium and displayed remarkable variation between plants, which could not be attributed to any of the variables observed in this study. Overall, the effects of precipitation level were relatively weak, which may be related to the intense drought in Morocco at the time of sampling. The dominance of Rhizobium in a non-leguminous plant is particularly noteworthy and may permit the utilization of this bacterial taxon to augment drought tolerance; additionally, the absence of any notable selection of the rhizosphere of M. sylvestris suggests that it is not significatively affecting its soil environment.

Selecting an optimal solid waste disposal site is one of the decisive waste management issues because unsuitable sites cause serious environmental and public health problems. In Kenitra province, northwest Morocco, sustainable disposal sites have become a major challenge due to rapid urbanization and population growth. In addition, the existing disposal sites are traditional and inappropriate. The objective of this study is to suggest potential suitable disposal sites using fuzzy logic and analytical hierarchy process (fuzzy-AHP) method integrated with geographic information system (GIS) techniques. For this purpose, thirteen factors affecting the selection process were involved. The results showed that 5% of the studied area is considered extremely suitable and scattered in the central-eastern parts, while 9% is considered almost unsuitable and distributed in the northern and southern parts. Thereafter, these results were validated using the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristics (ROC). The AUC found was 57.1%, which is a moderate prediction's accuracy because the existing sites used in the validation's process were randomly selected. These results can assist relevant authorities and stakeholders for setting new solid waste disposal sites in Kenitra province.

AIM: Our study aimed to perform on Moroccan patients' non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) concerning the relationship between PD-L1 tumor expression, clinicopathological features and tumor infiltrating immune cells (ICs). METHODS: This is a retrospective study (2019 to 2021) conducted on samples from Moroccan patients with NSCLC at the Pathological Anatomy Laboratory of Ibn Rochd University Hospital in Casablanca. Eligible participants for our study had to meet the following predefined criteria: age ≥18 years, histologically confirmed NSCLC, no prior therapeutic interventions, availability of clinical and pathological data, and a usable tumor sample for determining PD-L1 status. Exclusion criteria applied to patients with other types of lung cancer and unusable tumor samples. The evaluation of tumor and immune expression of PD-L1 was performed using immunohistochemistry (IHC), with the 22C3 clone on the Dako Autostainer Link 48 platform. Tumor PD-L1 expression was categorized into 3 levels: TPS <1% (negative expression), TPS 1-49% (low expression), and TPS ≥50% (high expression). ICs infiltrating the tumor expressing PD-L1 were considered positive when more than 1% of positive ICs were present. RESULTS: Among the 316 analyzed samples, 56.6% showed a negative expression of PD-L1, 16.8% displayed a low expression of PD-L1, and 26.6% exhibited a strong expression. Regarding the histological type, among patients with TPS ≥ 50%, 25.8% had adenocarcinoma. Among patients with TPS ≥ 50%, 24.81% were smokers. PD-L1 was also strongly expressed in the lung (28.2%) and bronchi (26.5%). PD-L1 expression (TPS ≥ 50%) was observed in 35.29% of early-stage patients. Concerning tumor cells (TCs), 27.5% of tumors infiltrated by ICs had TPS ≥ 50%. Furthermore, coexpression of PD-L1 on both TCs and ICs infiltrating the tumor was found in 27.8% of tumors. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant association between tumor PD-L1 expression and smoking status (P=0.019). However, no significant difference was observed between PD-L1 expression and the presence of ICs infiltrating the tumor (P=0.652), as well as the IHC expression of PD-L1 on ICs (P=0.259). CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate a significant association between PD-L1 expression and smoking status. However, no significant association was observed between PD-L1 expression and the presence of infiltrating ICs, nor with the IHC expression of PD-L1 on ICs. Our data underscore the importance of participating in the study of specific factors influencing PD-L1 expression in patients with NSCLC.

BACKGROUND: Human resources for health (HRH) play a pivotal role in effective health system operation, yet various impediments challenge sustainable development. This scoping review aimed to explore these challenges and potential solutions in aligning the health workforce to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the Moroccan population. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review searching PubMed, Science Direct, Cairn and Google Scholar for relevant articles published between 2014 and 2023. Additionally, non-peer-reviewed literature sourced from Ministry of Health consultations and allied websites was included. RESULTS: Among the nineteen studies meeting our inclusion criteria, the majority were cross-sectional and predominantly focused on challenges faced by nurses. While some papers delineated multiple HRH challenges (5/19), the rest addressed specific challenges. The identified challenges span organizational and personal levels. Organizationally, the focus was on training, lifelong learning, continuing education, health coverage and shortages, and job satisfaction. At a personal level, HRH in the public health sector encountered challenges such as burnout, stress, and broader occupational health concerns. CONCLUSIONS: The reviewed publications underscored a spectrum of challenges necessitating robust policy interventions. Despite promising developments in the Moroccan healthcare system, addressing the unequal urban-rural HRH distribution, augmenting funding, and enhancing HRH quality of life stand as pivotal imperatives.

Euchelicerata is a clade of arthropods comprising horseshoe crabs, scorpions, spiders, mites and ticks, as well as the extinct eurypterids (sea scorpions) and chasmataspidids. The understanding of the ground plans and relationships between these crown-group euchelicerates has benefited from the discovery of numerous fossils. However, little is known regarding the origin and early evolution of the euchelicerate body plan because the relationships between their Cambrian sister taxa and synziphosurines, a group of Silurian to Carboniferous stem euchelicerates with chelicerae and an unfused opisthosoma, remain poorly understood owing to the scarce fossil record of appendages. Here we describe a synziphosurine from the Lower Ordovician (ca. 478 Ma) Fezouata Shale of Morocco. This species possesses five biramous appendages with stenopodous exopods bearing setae in the prosoma and a fully expressed first tergite in the opisthosoma illuminating the ancestral anatomy of the group. Phylogenetic analyses recover this fossil as a member of the stem euchelicerate family Offacolidae, which is characterized by biramous prosomal appendages. Moreover, it also shares anatomical features with the Cambrian euarthropod Habelia optata, filling the anatomical gap between euchelicerates and Cambrian stem taxa, while also contributing to our understanding of the evolution of euchelicerate uniramous prosomal appendages and tagmosis.

BACKGROUND: The psychology of vaccination behaviour explains how thoughts and feelings influence people's willingness to receive vaccines. Understanding vaccination behaviour is crucial to successfully managing vaccination campaigns. AIM: Investigating factors associated with immunisation stress among students at Mohammed First University. SETTING: This study was conducted on students at Mohammed First University institutions. METHODS: This study is a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. It was conducted on 305 students at Mohammed First University institutions using a 90-item questionnaire. RESULTS: Three hundred and five participants have been included in this survey. Overall, 65.5% of the students in our sample had a positive perception towards COVID-19 vaccines. Nevertheless, 34.5% had a negative opinion regarding immunisation. According to the analysis of perceived stress scale, 40% (n = 122) of students expressed moderate to high stress regarding vaccination. Students with a negative perception of vaccine showed a higher level of stress than those with a positive one. Stressed students tended to be older than others, coming from other institutions, other than the medical faculty, and were renting alone. Vaccine accessibility was the less significant reason associated with stress regarding vaccination. Moreover, participants with high levels of confidence in social media, exhibited higher stress. Nevertheless, those who believed in scientific journals were significantly less stressed. CONCLUSION: These results reflect a positive perception and acceptance of vaccines, with a considerable level of stress regarding vaccination.Contribution: This study suggests emphasising the mental health of Moroccan young adults, to better sensitise and inform them about immunisation.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to ascertain the prevalence and risk factors for developing staphylococcal urinary tract infections (UTIs) in the Casablanca area of Morocco. METHODS: In Casablanca, Morocco, a retrospective evaluation of 772 UTIs patients was conducted between January 2020 and December 2022. The research included two groups of patients: those with staphylococcal UTIs and those without. Sex, age, chronic illnesses, antibiotic exposure, urinary catheterization, urological surgery, and UTIs history were the risk variables assessed. We employed a logistic regression model to identify the characteristics that were predictive of staphylococcal UTIs. RESULTS: Eight staphylococcal species were responsible for 16.84% of UTIs in 772 non-repeating individuals. Patients infected with S. saprophyticus (35.38%) were the most common, followed by those infected with S. epidermidis (24.61%), S. aureus (13.85%), and S. hemolyticus (10.78%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that male sex (95% CI: 0.261-0.563), immunosuppression and immunosuppressive treatments (95% CI: 0.0068-0.64), chronic diseases (95% CI: 0.407-0.965), previous UTIs (95% CI: 0.031-0.228), frequency of urination more than 8 times a day (95% CI:1.04-3.29), frequency of urination once or twice a day (95% CI: 1.05-2.39), and urinary catheterization (95% CI: 0.02-0.22) were the most likely predictors of staphylococcal UTIs. In addition, a larger proportion of patients with staphylococcal UTIs were made aware of the risk factors associated with staphylococcal UTIs (52.31%, χ2 = 4.82, = 0.014). CONCLUSIONS: This is the first global study to evaluate the predictive factors for acquiring UTIs caused by staphylococci. Monitoring these factors will enable medical authorities to devise effective strategies for managing UTIs and combating antibiotic resistance.

To cope with the water shortage in Sous Massa region of Morocco, agricultural producers in the region have resorted to different types of water supply basins, known as "irrigation basins" but the phenomenon of eutrophication has hindered the continuity of agricultural productivity by altering the quality of the water used for irrigation on the one hand, and causing economic damage to agricultural producers due to the clogging of the water pumping network on the other. We began by characterising the physico-chemical quality of the water to determine the causes of its high nutrient content, then we determined the taxonomy of the algal species in the irrigation basins to which we had access. A qualitative study of the water in the irrigation basins in order to better explain the inventory obtained from the taxonomic identification of the algal biomass collected, which proved the existence of new species, not previously identified, characterising the freshwaters of the Moroccan region, is under the scope of this work. The species studied belong mainly to the following groups: green algae (11 genera of Chlorophyta and 7 genera of Charophyta), blue algae (7 genera of Cyanobacteria), brown algae (7 genera of Diatoms), and one genus of Euglenophyta.

Introduction: students worldwide receive little training on blood transfusion therapies during their time at medical schools and hospitals, then reformulation of academic programs is mandatory. Indications for blood transfusions are more frequent than recommended, which helps to increase the risks associated with this procedure. To overcome this, structured objective training on nursing care and procedures was organised with the topic of transfusion safety. The purpose of our study was to assess medical students´ appreciation of this training and the degree to which this population had mastered it. Methods: we conducted a cross-sectional, descriptive, single-centre study. We conducted a survey among the 3rd-year medical students. A self-administered assessment questionnaire, as well as an evaluation grid for acquired skills, filled in by the training doctors during the session, were used. Data analysis was based on descriptive statistics using Excel software. Results: three hundred and eighty-four (n=384) students were invited to attend this training course, 275 (71.6%) of whom were enrolled in the study. The overall satisfaction rate was 93.8%. The objectives and organisation were 95.6% successful. The quality of the training was 90.3% satisfactory. The choice of topic for the station was satisfactory for 80% of participants, the flow of the session for 86.3%, the quality of the organisation and debriefing for 89%, the interaction between trainers and learners for 90.2%, the motivation of trainers and the reflection stimulated in the learners for 92%. We noted that 93% of students had never participated in training in transfusion safety. Mastery of global skills was total for 67%, partial for 26% and absent for 7%. The students mastered the procedures for checking the identity and grouping of the product to be transfused at 97%, the principle of interpreting the ultimate pre-transfusion test (96%), the purpose of ultimate test at the patient´s bedside 93% with mastery of its technical implementation 83%. Conclusion: training in transfusion safety was well received, with a satisfactory level of proficiency. This experience can easily be extended to other topics.

Urban flooding is recognized as a nature-driven disaster shaped by inherent factors such as climate, morphology, and hydrology, affecting vulnerability and flood exposure. While these factors play a paramount role, significant psychosocial intricate drivers are acknowledged, though they are challenging for prediction and assessment. This study delves into these drivers in a specific context, aiming to draw conclusions that extend beyond. It undertakes a comprehensive approach, integrating cloud-based Radar flood detection, analysis of flood causation patterns, and geostatistical analysis of a social survey based on cross-synthesis, contingency analysis, and structural equation modeling. In particular, we characterize the case of the coastal city of Tetouan in Morocco, which is representative in its environmental and socioeconomic settings to most cities in North Africa. It unraveled the nuanced interplay of psychosocial, economic, and territorial dynamics influencing flood exposure. The findings reveal how watershed location molds unique environmental exposures, steering nuanced, emotional, and behavioral responses among residents. Gender and education differentials reveal diverse perceptions and awareness of flood risks. Psychosocial intricacies come to the forefront, portraying education, income, and awareness as crucial mediators influencing cognitive and affective responses. Elevated education, increased income, and heightened awareness correlate with heightened perception and coping strategies. Findings reveal that risk perception significantly and differently influences risk acceptance, coping, and aversion through an array of identified key factors influencing coping strategies, mediating elements in flood damage relationships, and underscoring the pivotal role of perception in shaping responses to risk. Moreover, it found that lower risk acceptance leads to higher coping and aversion, and the latter positively affects coping, indicating that acceptance reduces the motivation to avoid the risk and decreases the willingness to adopt coping strategies to reduce the exposure. The outcomes carry critical implications for comprehending individual and collective social behaviors, informing strategies, and mitigating flood risk that apply at a wider context. It accentuates the inadequacy of relying solely on structural engineering for risk management, citing spatial constraints, misinformation, and lapses in prior-risk memory as compounding exposure challenges. This recognition catalyzes action, advocating tailored awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and capacity-building programs, spotlighting the need for heightened individual profiles to enhance social understanding, engagement, and resilience. We anticipate profound insights, fostering a richer comprehension of urban flooding complexities and informing adaptive strategies on a broader scale.

Introduction: the risk management system is useful to identify, analyze, and reduce the risk occurrence of adverse events (AEs) in health services. This system suggests useful improvements to patients and to the whole institution and also contributes to the acquisition of a collective and organizational safety culture. This study presented a state of the art of the management of AEs identified in different services of a regional hospital in the north of Morocco. Methods: this is a retrospective cross-sectional exploratory study carried out from 2017 to 2019 using observations and semi-structured interviews, which were recorded, re-transcribed, and analyzed. Data was also collected from audit reports, results of investigations of the nosocomial infection control committee and the risk management commission, AEs declaration sheets, and meetings reports. Results: a number of 83 AEs were recorded, 10 of which were urgent. The reported events were related to care, infection risk, the drugs circuit, and medico-technical events. Two hundred cases of nosocomial infections were also recorded, of which 75 occurred in the intensive care unit and 35 in the maternity service. Surgical site infections were the most frequently reported complication. Adverse events were related to organizational failure, equipment problems, and errors related to professional practices. Conclusion: our findings may guide the improvement of the event management system in order to reduce the occurrence of future incidents. Thus, improving the risk management system requires setting up training strategies for staff on the importance of this system and its mode of operation.

In Morocco, cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) caused by Leishmania (L.) tropica is an important health problem. Despite the high incidence of CL in the country, the genomic heterogeneity of these parasites is still incompletely understood. In this study, we sequenced the genomes of 14 Moroccan isolates of L. tropica collected from confirmed cases of CL to investigate their genomic heterogeneity. Comparative genomics analyses were conducted by applying the recently established Genome Instability Pipeline (GIP), which allowed us to conduct phylogenomic and principal components analyses (PCA), and to assess genomic variations at the levels of the karyotype, gene copy number, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and small insertions/deletions (INDELs) variants. Read-depth analyses revealed a mostly disomic karyotype, with the exception of the stable tetrasomy of chromosome 31. In contrast, we identified important gene copy number variations across all isolates, which affect known virulence genes and thus were probably selected in the field. SNP-based cluster analysis of the 14 isolates revealed a core group of 12 strains that formed a tight cluster and shared 45.1 % (87 751) of SNPs, as well as two strains (M3015, Ltr_16) that clustered separately from each other and the core group, suggesting the circulation of genetically highly diverse strains in Morocco. Phylogenetic analysis, which compared our 14 L. tropica isolates against 40 published genomes of L. tropica from a diverse array of locations, confirmed the genetic difference of our Moroccan isolates from all other isolates examined. In conclusion, our results indicate potential regional variations in SNP profiles that may differentiate Moroccan L. tropica from other L. tropica strains circulating in endemic countries in the Middle East. Our report paves the way for future research with a larger number of strains that will allow correlation of diverse phenotypes (resistance to treatments, virulence) and origins (geography, host species, year of isolation) to defined genomic signals such as gene copy number variations or SNP profiles that may represent interesting biomarker candidates.

The transition from hunting-gathering to agriculture stands as one of the most important dietary revolutions in human history. Yet, due to a scarcity of well-preserved human remains from Pleistocene sites, little is known about the dietary practices of pre-agricultural human groups. Here we present the isotopic evidence of pronounced plant reliance among Late Stone Age hunter-gatherers from North Africa (15,000-13,000 cal BP), predating the advent of agriculture by several millennia. Employing a comprehensive multi-isotopic approach, we conducted zinc (δ66Zn) and strontium (87Sr/86Sr) analysis on dental enamel, bulk carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) and sulfur (δ34S) isotope analysis on dentin and bone collagen, and single amino acid analysis on human and faunal remains from Taforalt (Morocco). Our results unequivocally demonstrate a substantial plant-based component in the diets of these hunter-gatherers. This distinct dietary pattern challenges the prevailing notion of high reliance on animal proteins among pre-agricultural human groups. It also raises intriguing questions surrounding the absence of agricultural development in North Africa during the early Holocene. This study underscores the importance of investigating dietary practices during the transition to agriculture and provides insights into the complexities of human subsistence strategies across different regions.

INTRODUCTION: Morocco is carrying out several actions to generalize basic compulsory health insurance (CHI). Managing this project requires coordination, information sharing, and the commitment of all actors to the goal of covering an additional 22 million people. One of the key factors for achieving this objective is the implementation of a unified registration system. PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH: The aim is to analyze the existing situation and the feasibility of implementing a unified registration system, and to describe the potential positive impact of the latter on the extension of CHI. RESULTS: This work is based on a diagnosis of the current situation. It draws on the legal framework, all available documents and figures, and on an analytical reading supported by existing literature. It reveals that due to the inadequacy or even the absence of an appropriate legal basis, each managing body has its own registration system. The lack of a unified system has given rise to a number of constraints. These concern, among other things: (i) mobility between or within schemes, which does not operate smoothly because it leads to re-registration (ii) inadequate monitoring of double benefit claims, which is the case for more than one scheme, due to insufficient and hesitant anti-fraud action (iii) the sharing and use of reliable data, which hinders decision making, evaluation, and monitoring. CONCLUSIONS: It is essential to adopt legal texts that will provide the basis for a unified system with regulations enabling the participation of all stakeholders, with the aim of steering the roll-out of CHI effectively and efficiently.


Introduction: Le Maroc mène, depuis quelques années, plusieurs actions permettant de généraliser l'assurance maladie obligatoire (AMO). Le pilotage de ce chantier nécessite la coordination, le partage d'informations et l'engagement de tous les acteurs afin de couvrir 22 millions de personnes supplémentaires. L'un des éléments clés pour optimiser la réalisation de cet objectif consiste à mettre en place un système unifié d'immatriculation. But de l'étude: Analyser l'existant et la faisabilité de la mise en place d'un système unifié d'immatriculation, tout en précisant ses retombées positives sur l'extension de l'AMO. Résultats: Ce travail, fondé sur un diagnostic, appuyé par l'arsenal juridique, des documents et des chiffres disponibles ainsi qu'une lecture analytique renforcée par la littérature existante, a permis de constater que, du fait de l'insuffisance voire l'absence d'un soubassement juridique adapté, chaque organisme gestionnaire a son propre système d'immatriculation. L'absence d'un système unifié gêne notamment : 1) la mobilité entre régimes ou intra-régimes, étant donné qu'elle ne se fait pas de manière fluide car elle génère la ré-immatriculation ; 2) le contrôle du double bénéfice d'un régime insuffisamment organisé et incapable de lutter contre la fraude ; 3) le partage et l'exploitation de données fiables empêchant d'assurer de manière appropriée le suivi, l'évaluation et la prise de décision. Conclusion: Il est indispensable d'adopter des textes juridiques pour fonder un système unifié qui permettra l'encadrement et l'engagement de toutes les parties prenantes dans l'objectif de piloter la généralisation de l'AMO avec efficacité et efficience.

BACKGROUND: Morocco faces a substantial public health challenge due to diabetes mellitus, affecting 12.4% of adults in 2023. The Moroccan population makes extensive use of phytotherapy and traditional medicine to address the difficulties this chronic condition poses. The aim of this study is to document the use of medicinal plants in traditional medicine for managing type 2 diabetes in the provinces of the Casablanca-Settat region. METHODS: The study employed a semi-structured questionnaire for data collection. A study was conducted between August 1st and September 30th, 2023, and 244 individuals diagnosed with diabetes were invited to take part in the research, all of whom used at least one medicinal plant to manage type 2 diabetes, by visiting primary healthcare facilities in Morocco. The analysis included the use of Relative Frequency of Citation (RFC) to scrutinize the data. RESULTS: A total of 47 plant species belonging to 25 families were documented. Notably, the Apiaceae, Lamiaceae, and Fabaceae families were frequently mentioned in the context of treating type 2 diabetes in Morocco. Prominent among the cited plant species were Sesamum indicum L., Lepidium sativum L., followed by Foeniculum vulgare Mill., and Rosmarinus officinalis L. Seeds emerged as the plant part most commonly mentioned, with infusion being the prevailing preparation method and oral consumption being the most frequently depicted method of administration. CONCLUSION: This research underscores the practicality of incorporating traditional medicine into the healthcare framework of the Casablanca-Settat region. The findings not only offer valuable documentation but also have a vital function in safeguarding knowledge regarding the utilization of medicinal plants in this locality. Moreover, they provide opportunities to delve deeper into the phytochemical and pharmacological potential of these plants.

Eutrophication has led to the widespread occurrence of cyanobacterial blooms. Toxic cyanobacterial blooms with high concentrations of microcystins (MCs) have been identified in the Lalla Takerkoust reservoir in Morocco. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the Multi-Soil-Layering (MSL) ecotechnology in removing natural cyanobacterial blooms from the lake. Two MSL pilots were used in rectangular glass tanks (60 × 10 × 70 cm). They consisted of permeable layers (PLs) made of pozzolan and a soil mixture layer (SML) containing local soil, ferrous metal, charcoal and sawdust. The main difference between the two systems was the type of local soil used: sandy soil for MSL1 and clayey soil for MSL2. Both MSL pilots effectively reduced cyanobacterial cell concentrations in the treated water to very low levels (0.09 and 0.001 cells/mL). MSL1 showed a gradual improvement in MC removal from 52 % to 99 %, while MSL2 started higher at 90 % but dropped to 54% before reaching 86%. Both MSL systems significantly reduced organic matter levels (97.2 % for MSL1 and 95.8 % for MSL2). Both MSLs were shown to be effective in removing cyanobacteria, MCs, and organic matter with comparable performance.

Introduction: blood transfusion remains an essential therapeutic intervention, but the occurrence of transfusion reactions makes its administration even more complex. Vigilant reporting of such reactions by recipients of blood products is essential for effective haemovigilance. This study aimed to determine the frequency and nature of transfusion reactions. Methods: conducted over five years (2017-2021) at the Haemovigilance Department of the Rabat Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, this retrospective study exploited incident forms notified by health establishments and data from the regional blood transfusion centre's computer system. Results: from 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2021, the Rabat Regional Blood Transfusion Centre distributed 435,651 labile blood products to various healthcare establishments, which reported 191 transfusion reactions involving 191 patients. The median age of the patients was 44.3 years, with an overall cumulative incidence of transfusion reactions of 0.44 per 1000 labile blood products delivered. The predominant reactions were non-haemolytic febrile and allergic reactions, accounting for 41.36% and 35.60% respectively. Grade 1 reactions accounted for 87% of all reactions recorded. During the study period, three deaths were recorded, with ABO incompatibility and transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) accounting for two and one case respectively. Transfusion reactions involving erythrocyte components were significantly more frequent than those involving platelet and plasma components. Conclusion: this study revealed a relatively low incidence of transfusion reactions (0.44%), dominated by non-haemolytic febrile and allergic reactions. Several levels of failure were identified, in particular under-reporting of reactions and inadequate training in transfusion practices and haemovigilance, as well as the need for an effective electronic transfusion reaction reporting system to facilitate reporting and identification of underlying problems and risk factors to improve the quality of transfusion care provided to patients.

Low dietary diversity (LDD) is prevalent among vulnerable populations, posing a morbidity risk. Few studies have been conducted on the dietary diversity of migrants. The objectives of this study are to determine the prevalence of LDD among migrants in Morocco and the risk factors associated with it. In the Oriental region, we conducted a cross-sectional study with migrants between November and December 2021. The sampling method used was convenience sampling. A face-to-face, structured questionnaire was used to collect sociodemographic, behavioral, and clinical data. We calculated a dietary diversity score based on a 24-h food recall and assessed food intake. The risk factors associated with LDD were identified using multivariate logistic regression. A total of 445 migrants was enrolled. The prevalence of LDD was 31.7%. Risk factors associated with LDD were: being homeless (adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) of 6.32; CI% [3.55-11.25]), a lack of social support (AOR of 2.30; CI% [1.33-03.98]), and low monthly income (AOR of 8.21; CI% [3.39-19.85]). Public policies must focus on social and environmental determinants. Nutrition training programs should be set up for the migrant population.
