ABSTRACT
Objective - To analyze the effect of static stretching on flexibility of hamstring muscles in two different stretching programs. Methods - Forty volunteers, aged 18-25 years, at the Instituto Municipal de Ensino Superior de Catanduva - IMES. Were divided into four groups of 10, with group 1 - made with static stretching the length of three minutes for 5 consecutive days, group 2 - held static stretching with a duration of 3 minutes for 4 weeks (1 month) 3x/week , group 3 - not held static stretching, but only control group and 1, and group 4 - not held static stretching, but only control group and 2. These patients were evaluated by testing the flexibility of the hamstring muscles with manual goniometer before the study and three days after the end of stretching. Results - We used the Student t test, and the results showed a statistically significant difference (p <0.001) between control groups and those receiving stretching. Conclusion - The group performed a short stretching program achieved greater flexibility of the hamstring muscles.
