RESUMEN
This study aimed to analyze the influence of digital screen use on adolescents' quality of sleep. This systematic review was recorded on PROSPERO (CRD42020203403) and conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Studies covering adolescents from 10 to 19 years were included without language or publication restrictions which answered the following guiding question: "Does the use of digital screen influence adolescents' quality sleep?". Article search included the following databases: (MEDLINE/PubMed), LILACS, SciELO, Scopus, EMBASE, Web of Science, IBECS, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Open Gray. The following descriptors were used: "Sleep Quality", "Screen Time", and "Adolescent". The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) assessed the methodological quality of the cohort studies, and a modified NOS was used to assess the cross-sectional ones. In total, 2,268 articles were retrieved, of which 2,059 were selected for title and abstract reading, after duplicates were deleted. After this stage, 47 articles were selected for full reading, resulting in the 23 articles which compose this review. Excessive use of digital screens was associated with worse and shorter sleep, showing, as its main consequences, night awakenings, long sleep latency, and daytime sleepiness. The use of mobile phones before bedtime was associated with poor quality of sleep among adolescents. Our evaluation of the methodological quality of the chosen studies found seven to be poor and 16, moderate.

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 (ALDH-1) is a marker of stem cells in a variety of diseases, but its role in individuals with chronic inflammatory periapical lesions remains unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of cells with a stem cell profile based on the immunoexpression of ALDH-1 in periapical granulomas (PGs) and radicular cysts (RCs). A total of 51 cases of periapical lesions (25 PGs and 26 RCs) were subjected to immunohistochemical study. The anti-ALDH-1 antibody was applied using the immunoperoxidase technique. An immunoexpression score (intensity vs. percentage of cells) was used, with the cases being classified as low expression (score: 0 to 4) and high expression (score: 6 to 9). The Chi-square test was used with a 5% level of significance. Immunoexpression of ALDH-1 was detected in all cases of PGs and RCs. In PG cases, the expression was diffuse in connective tissue cells, with most cases exhibiting high expression (n = 18; 69.2%), while in RC cases the expression revealed focal distribution in cells of the capsule and epithelial cells of the cystic lining, with most cases classified as low expression (n = 18; 72%). Significant differences in the expression scores of ALDH-1 were observed in PGs (p = 0.003). The variable expression of ALDH-1 suggests the presence of cells with stem cell profiles in PGs and RCs. These findings suggest that periapical tissues infiltrated by chronic inflammation can recruit important cells for the repair or evolution of periapical lesions.

PURPOSE: The objective of the present study was to investigate oral health status and treatment needs of children with disabilities in Recife, Brazil. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out in the six administrative districts of Recife. The sample consisted of 366 children with disabilities and age between 3 and 12 years. The oral health conditions investigated were dental caries (CPOD index and dmft index), gingival state (IPV and IGC index) and dental trauma. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, Pearson's chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Poisson regression models. RESULTS: The prevalence of caries was 65% and was associated with age (p = 0.0027) and area of residence (p = 0.020). The prevalence of need for treatment was also 65%. The mean decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT)/DMFT index of the study population was 3.17/1.73. Their mean number of DMFT was 2.37, 0.55 and 0.25 for the deciduous dentition, as well as 1.56, 0.05 and 0.12 for the permanent dentition. Almost the entire sample (96.7%) had visible plaque, 77.3% had gingival bleeding and 27.6% had dental traumatism. CONCLUSION: Children with disabilities were found to have high rates of caries and gingivitis, as well as cumulative needs for preventive and curative treatment.

AIM: This study aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the prevalence of dental caries in non-syndromic children with children and adolescents with Down syndrome (DS). METHODS: The strategy included a search for articles in electronic databases (MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Library, LILACS, and SciELO). The methods for assessment included the modified Newcastle-Ottawa scale, the methodological quality for cross-sectional studies, and a random-effects meta-analysis model. By obtaining the odds ratio, the tests of heterogeneity and sensitivity were performed. This study includes unpublished data from the cross-sectional study by Paiva et al. (2018), which was conducted in the city of Recife/PE. RESULTS: Twelve cross- section studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the meta-analysis. Results indicated that children and adolescents with DS had lower caries experience when compared to the non-syndromic ones (95 % CI: 0.22-0.84). The results indicated that the seven studies were statistically significant (p < 0.00001). The risk of bias remained high given that the majority of the studies were cross-sectional reports. CONCLUSION: The results of this study fill the lack of knowledge and indicated that there is scientific evidence to suggest that children and adolescents with Down Syndrome have fewer caries than the non-syndromic group.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the influence of non-invasive treatment associated with the use of infiltrating resin for managing caries lesions in primary teeth. Material and Methods: A systematic review was performed by selecting articles from 6 online databases, using a search algorithm and eligibility criteria for data extraction and data synthesis for the papers included. Clinical trials involving primary teeth with incipient caries lesions (1/2 of the enamel or 1/3 of the outer dentin) were included, presenting full text and answering the study's guiding question. This study used the RoB 2 tool for the risk of bias assessment and GRADE for certainty of evidence. Random effects meta-analyses were implemented, and lesion progression treatment effects were estimated through relative risk (RR) and associated 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of 440 studies were found. After analyzing the inclusion criteria and removal of duplicates, eight studies were analyzed for quality evidence. Five of the eight studies included in this review contributed to the meta-analysis, all with some reflections regarding the risk of bias. Overall, the results of the meta-analysis showed that non-invasive treatment, when associated with the use of infiltrating resins, significantly reduced the risk of caries progression in relation to the treatment without this addition for follow-up periods ranging from 12 months to 2 years (RR 0.51 [0.40-0.65]). Conclusion: There is moderate certainty of evidence that the use of infiltrating resins associated with non-invasive treatments decreases the risk of caries progression in primary teeth with incipient caries lesions (1/2 of the enamel or 1/3 of the dentin outer) when combined with non-invasive control methods alone.

This study sought to know the difficulties and barriers of parents in the sexual education of young people with Down Syndrome, from a descriptive, qualitative study, using the concept of social representations as a theoretical-methodological framework. The study was conducted in a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), located in Recife (PE) after approval by the Ethics and Research Committee, under substantiated opinion 3,558,587. The study sample involved 11 parents of young people with Down Syndrome aged between 15 and 24 years. The data collection was carried out by using semi-structured interviews. The approach chosen for interpretation of these data was the content analysis proposed by Bardin. The main difficulties faced by parents in talking with their children about sexuality can be listed as: the infantilization of young persons with Down Syndrome, deeming them incapable of experiencing such phenomena and understanding the guidance that could be given; the fear of overshooting the stages and, suddenly, "stimulating" the child to live their sexuality in an "early" way; and the facts of the parents also having received little or no sexual guidance from their families. Given the parents' narratives, it is possible to realize that there are still many myths, taboos, and prejudices that permeate the sexuality of young people with Down Syndrome, demonstrating that parents were unprepared to provide the right guidance.(AU)

(AU)
Injuries caused by dog bites are common and have importance in public health, with consequences such as disfigurement, infection and even death in severe cases. The correct approach to these lesions is controversial, especially in primary closure of the point of view of the wound and prophylaxis of infectious diseases originating from the animal's saliva contact with the wound. The care of these patients in the emergency consists in controlling infection, functional rehabilitation and consequently aesthetics in order to minimize possible psychological damage and return to social life. This paper reports the injury case in upper lip of a child resulting from aggression by canine bite. The reconstruction was carried out by retail rhomboid oral mucosa rotation and straight forward skin flap associated with the discharge of triangles. Moreover, a particular antibiotic was introduced. Thus it was obtained a satisfactory aesthetic and functional results without infectious postoperative complications or dehiscence of sutures... (AU)

Objective: The aim of this study was to criticaly review the published literature regarding the clinical aspects involved in the rehabilitation of edentulous patients using Branemark protocol and overdenture prostheses. Methods: An active search was conducted in the LILACS, MEDLINE, PubMed, and SciELO databases using the descriptors: "Coating for dentures" (Overlay Prosthesis and Overdenture) and "Implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis" (Protesis dental de suporte implantado, Dental prosthesis, and Implant Supported Prosthesis) in Portuguese, English, and Spanish between January 2000 and October 2014.Results: The following parameters should be considered when selecting between Branemark protocol and overdenture prostheses: bone support, lip support, lip-line, upper lip length, oral mucosa conditions and size, alveolar ridge contour, crown-bone ratio, interarch space, and speaking space. Overdenture rehabilitation can provide many benefits to patients, such as prosthetic retention, stability, comfort, and improved aesthetics. Conclusions: This study highlights the need for a thorough individualized treatment planning to ensure that fixed prostheses and overdentures have an excellent prognosis when used appropriately in suitable patients at the appropriate time.
Objective: To determine through a systematic review of the literature the correlation between the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and oral squamous cell carcinoma . Method: Active search in the databases LILACS, MEDLINE , PubMed and SciELO using the descriptors : "Oral squamous cell carcinoma" and " Human Papillomavirus " between January 2000 until February 2014 in Portuguese, English and Spanish . Results: In the studies reviewed, the most prevalent type of HPV is low risk (6 e 54) and high risk (16), being found in lesions on the tongue and floor of mouth in male patients , age over 60 years and nonsmokers. Conclusions: Studies are needed that allow consider HPV as the causative agent of oral squamous cell carcinoma, because in the literature the presence of several carcinogens , acting concurrently , prevents accurate conclusions and point to a synergistic action between HPV and other carcinogens that actually potentiate developing a malignancy... (AU)
Introduction: The third molars have a higher prevalence of impaction. When indicated, the extraction of these teeth can result in complications such as fracture mandibular. Objective: To report a case of mandibular fracture that occurred and was identified during the extraction of inferior impacted third molar, and successfully treated by a conservative method. Case report: The patient underwent surgical procedure under local anesthesia for the extraction of tooth 48 which was in position 1B, according to Pell and Gregory. Surgical access was performed through a Maurel type incision and peripheral ostectomy with surgical drill 702, executing lever movements with a straight elevator. The mandibular fracture was detected at the time of removal of the tooth in question. A conservative treatment was adopted, as osteosynthesis and maxillomandibular block with Gilmer Sauer type amarrias were performed. After one week, the maxillomandibular block was removed and the dental occlusion was checked. Final Thoughts: Complications in extractions are always to be considered when planning a surgery. The mandibular fracture in this case was handled... (AU)
