Five-to-five clear aligner therapy: predictable orthodontic movement for general dentist to achieve minimally invasive dentistry.

BACKGROUND: Esthetic dentistry has become a very important aspect of every dental treatment from the patient perspective, whether it is orthodontics or implant therapy. The aim of this article is to describe the advantages of a newly developed branch of five-to-five clear aligner therapy (CAT) (Invisalign Go, Align Technology, San Jose, Calif) in interdisciplinary treatments especially in terms of minimally invasive interventions. CASE PRESENTATION: Two case reports are presented together with a comprehensive analysis using the SAFE (Safety, Assessment, Function, Ethics) assessment. This paper aims to introduce a new systematic in CAT. Invisalign Go (Align Technology, Santa Clara, California, USA) allows orthodontic treatment from second premolar and second premolar in both arches. It is specially designed for general practitioners devoted to restorative dentistry for a better planning of a multidisciplinary and mini-invasive treatment plan. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The clinical results demonstrate how CAT is extremely useful in multidisciplinary treatment plan in order to straighten teeth especially in a pre-restorative phase to allow minimally invasive and adhesive restorations.

Consequently, treatment planning and thus treatment provision may carry the risk of being biased or indeed 'outcome driven' whereby the skills and knowledge of any clinician towards a particular faculty may significantly influence the ultimate treatment plan, with the unfortunate tendency sometimes to overlook the role of the interdisciplinary approach of concomitant restorative and contemporary techniques. The role of orthodontics to facilitate the provision of such treatment, along with predictable enamel bonding, has the distinct advantage of providing an acceptable aesthetic result with minimal biological intervention. However, to achieve an optimal result in such cases requires meticulous treatment planning and patient selection to avoid pitfalls with regards to long-term stability and function. This article suggests a standardized approach to patient assessment, with an interdisciplinary perspective in mind. Clinical Relevance: With the growth of patient demand for improving the appearance of the smile, a meticulous assessment protocol is required along with effective interdisciplinary communication. This enables a comprehensive treatment plan to be developed with the correct priorities.

Anterior tooth alignment--recommendations for stability.

UNLABELLED: This article considers the importance of current orthodontic practice in retention and stability when considering anterior tooth alignment. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: With the exponential increase of general dentist-based orthodontic systems for anterior tooth alignment, with considerably shorter treatment times, practical recommendations along with a current literature review are required to improve success and outcome of the long-term result.

Aesthetic Management of Tooth Size Discrepancies.

The aesthetic management of tooth size discrepancies is an essential component when dealing with simple and complex dental rehabilitation. Tooth size and shape is a crucial factor that strongly influences both the smile and the face in the treatment outcome. From an orthodontic perspective, evaluation of the ideal mesiodistal widths relating to both maxillary and mandibular arches is required to plan the correct occlusal, aesthetic, and functional result.The aim of this paper is to propose a safe and repeatable method to evaluate and correct tooth size discrepancy through the presentation of two case reports. Both cases were managed using a combination of clear aligner therapy and minimally invasive restorative procedures, as well as the use of digital tools.

The Anterior Ratio: The Missing Link between Orthodontics and Aesthetic Dentistry.

There is an increase in the number of dentists using orthodontic treatment for anterior tooth alignment. This is either combined with additive bonding or interproximal reduction; knowing "when to" and "how much" requires an understanding of the anterior ratio. This case report explains how to use the anterior ratio to help provide optimal aesthetics and function for the ortho-restorative patient. The anterior ratio is an important diagnostic tool required for both disciplines of orthodontics and restorative dentistry which is often overlooked. The case report demonstrates the use of the Invisalign orthodontic appliance and the corresponding ClinCheck software to help achieve the proposed treatment goals.

When should orthodontics be part of reconstruction of a degenerating dentition? A case report.

The present case report aims to describe a typical situation of an adult patient seeing her dentist for replacement of a missing tooth, but also requiring information regarding the possibilities for a return to the original occlusion as perceived by the patient based on family photos. The importance of the communication regarding the consequences of blindly following the patient's demand for a replacement of a missing tooth compared to the treatment possibilities when involving orthodontics is stressed. The significance of maintaining a high information level in the undergraduate training regarding treatment possibilities is stressed. The logic in dividing the treatment into separate phases defined by the solution of specific problems is demonstrated and minimizes the chair time as well as the treatment time.
