RESUMEN
The influence of lung ventilation and free fatty acids in serum on the internal exposure of organic solvents were investigated. 68 healthy male subjects were exposed 1 h at rest and during exercise to styrene, toluene or xylene. Uptake is influenced by the solvent concentration in inspired air, retention index and pulmonary ventilation. Internal exposure is characterized by venous blood concentrations and metabolites in urine. An increase in free fatty acids could be observed dependent on the internal exposure, preventing increases in the content of free fatty acids is a problem of susceptibility and medical care of exposed workers. Biological limits for the control of internal exposure are suggested.

In a model experiment 8 test persons each were given 1 mg and 2 mg fluoride per os. In a subsequent period of urine collection of 4 hours on an average 10% of the adduced fluoride were eliminated. Taking into consideration extraprofessional intake of fluoride may be concluded that the estimation of fluoride in the urine of welders working with Kb-electrodes may give references to the individual load of the respiratory tract by weld fumes.

On 62 welders and in a control group consisting of 90 test persons dynamic functional parameters of the lungs were established. In these cases welders older than 40 years after an activity lasting at least 2 decades gave references to a chronic obstructive disease of the respiratory tract, which after exclusion of other etiological factors may be regarded as a sequel of irritatively and toxically effecting welding fumes and gases.

22 health male subjects were exposed by a combination of physical exercises and heat. Strain related physiological and biochemical parameters were measured. Different individual reactions were obtained under controlled conditions. In dependence on the individual performance an increased mobilisation of lactat, free fatty acids and catecholamines were found. The determination of aerob physical performance can be applied for the evaluation of working capacity.

In 255 males the HDL-cholesterol values were compared with the results of the load-ECG-investigations. A statistically significant accumulation of findings in the load-ECG with references to a chronic ischaemic heart disease and a HDL-cholesterol level lower than 0,90 mmol/l is the result. It is recommended in correspondence with literature to use the estimation of LDH-cholesterol for the diagnostics and the control of the therapy of the chronic ischaemic heart disease.

Determinations of the styrene metabolites are reported with the high-performance liquid chromatography. The methodical investigations were used on a group of workers of the polyester processing. The establishment of the cumulation of metabolites and the appearance of pathological values of liver enzymes refer to the overcharge of biological regulations.

In inhalative toluol loads lasting one hour a dependence of the secretion of hippuric acid on the concentration of toluol in the inspiration air influenced by the respiratory minute volume was shown. It is concluded that the estimation of the hippuric acid from a one- to two-hours' collective urine of the working shift may give actual references to the toluol load. The increase of hippuric acid in the urine of 1.5 g/l after toluol exposition refers to the transgression of the MAK-values according to TGL 22310.

The contents of manganese in the biological materials urine, hair and faeces were measured atom-absorption-spectral-photometrically and compared in non-exposed and exposed welders. Significant differences between the two groups in the manganese-urine-excretions and manganese content of the hair were the result. For the industrial medical control of manganese exposed welders for the prevention of professional diseases the routine determination of manganese in the urine is recommended as exposition test.

By means of the establishment of constituents of explosives on the basis of the measuring technique the exposition intensity to ethylene glycol dinitrate in the mining industry could be recognized. By comprehensive clinical and paraclinical differential-diagnostic examinations as a consequence of this haemodynamically greatly effective exposition manifest disturbances of the cardiac rhythm were objectified in 8 workers and acknowledged as occupational disease Nr. 27.
