RESUMEN

GABAergic interneurons are key regulators of cortical circuit function. Among the dozens of reported transcriptionally distinct subtypes of cortical interneurons, neurogliaform cells (NGCs) are unique: they are recruited by long-range excitatory inputs, are a source of slow cortical inhibition and are able to modulate the activity of large neuronal populations. Despite their functional relevance, the developmental emergence and diversity of NGCs remains unclear. Here, by combining single-cell transcriptomics, genetic fate mapping, and electrophysiological and morphological characterization, we reveal that discrete molecular subtypes of NGCs, with distinctive anatomical and molecular profiles, populate the mouse neocortex. Furthermore, we show that NGC subtypes emerge gradually through development, as incipient discriminant molecular signatures are apparent in preoptic area (POA)-born NGC precursors. By identifying NGC developmentally conserved transcriptional programs, we report that the transcription factor Tox2 constitutes an identity hallmark across NGC subtypes. Using CRISPR-Cas9-mediated genetic loss of function, we show that Tox2 is essential for NGC development: POA-born cells lacking Tox2 fail to differentiate into NGCs. Together, these results reveal that NGCs are born from a spatially restricted pool of Tox2+ POA precursors, after which intra-type diverging molecular programs are gradually acquired post-mitotically and result in functionally and molecularly discrete NGC cortical subtypes.

INTRODUCTION: Dupilumab is approved for the treatment of severe type 2 (T2) asthma; however, the characteristics of patients receiving dupilumab in routine clinical practice are incompletely understood. This study describes the characteristics of patients with severe asthma before dupilumab treatment in a real-world setting. METHODS: This interim analysis of an ongoing real-life study of dupilumab assessed baseline characteristics of the first patient cohort enrolled in the ProVENT study. RESULTS: A total of 99 patients (59% females) were analyzed (17% received another biologic before dupilumab treatment and 15% were on maintenance oral corticosteroid treatment). Adult-onset asthma (>18 years) and an allergic phenotype were documented in 58% and 48% of patients, respectively. Median (interquartile range) age was 54 (40-61) years; the median number of exacerbations in the last 24 months was 1 (0-3); median fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) value was 38 (23-64) ppb; and median blood eosinophils (bEOS) count was 184 (8-505) cells/µL. According to the United Kingdom Severe Asthma Registry classification, 53% of patients had T2 intermediate asthma (bEOS ≥150 cells/µL or FeNO ≥25 ppb), 17% had T2 high asthma (bEOS ≥150 cells/µL and FeNO ≥25 ppb), and 4% had T2 low asthma (bEOS <150 cells/µL and FeNO <25 ppb). At least one GINA criterion for T2 airway inflammation was documented in 70% of patients. T2 comorbidities were observed in 64% of patients. CONCLUSIONS: This analysis suggests that patients eligible for dupilumab treatment display various clinical and biochemical characteristics rather than one clear-cut phenotype.

We established a framework for collecting radiation doses for head, chest and abdomen-pelvis computed tomography (CT) in children scanned at multiple imaging sites across Latin America with an aim towards establishing diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) and achievable doses (ADs) in pediatric CT in Latin America. Our study included 12 Latin American sites (in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras and Panama) contributing data on the four most common pediatric CT examinations (non-contrast head, non-contrast chest, post-contrast chest and post-contrast abdomen-pelvis). Sites contributed data on patients' age, sex and weight, scan factors (tube current and potential), volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose length product (DLP). Data were verified, leading to the exclusion of two sites with missing or incorrect data entries. We estimated overall and site-specific 50th (AD) and 75th (diagnostic reference level [DRL]) percentile CTDIvol and DLP for each CT protocol. Non-normal data were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Sites contributed data from 3,934 children (1,834 females) for different CT exams (head CT 1,568/3,934, 40%; non-contrast chest CT 945/3,934, 24%; post-contrast chest CT 581/3,934, 15%; abdomen-pelvis CT 840/3,934, 21%). There were significant statistical differences in 50th and 75th percentile CTDIvol and DLP values across the participating sites (P<0.001). The 50th and 75th percentile doses for most CT protocols were substantially higher than the corresponding doses reported from the United States of America. Our study demonstrates substantial disparities and variations in pediatric CT examinations performed in multiple sites in Latin America. We will use the collected data to improve scan protocols and perform a follow-up CT study to establish DRLs and ADs based on clinical indications.

Brain death (BD) leads to complex hemodynamic and inflammatory alterations which may compromise organ perfusion and induce morphologic and functional damage in various organs. The intestine is particularly sensitive to hypoperfusion and donor hypotension usually precludes intestinal donation. Previous studies reported inflammatory intestinal changes following BD but information on mucosal integrity and perfusion are lacking. BD was induced in mice by inflating an epidural balloon catheter. Controls underwent only anesthesia and tracheostomy. Intestinal perfusion was assessed using laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF). Intestinal injury was assessed after 2h of BD by the Chiu-Park score and morphometry. Intestinal tight junction (TJ) proteins (claudin-1, claudin-3, occludin, tricellulin) as well as inflammatory activation (intercellular adhesion molecule-1, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, and interleukin-6) were also analysed and compared with a sham group. Although blood pressure decreased in BD mice, intestinal perfusion remained similar between BD and sham mice. Histologically, mucosal injury was absent/minimal and TJs appeared well maintained in both groups. BD may trigger intrinsic, autoregulatory mechanisms to preserve microvascular tissue perfusion and mucosal integrity in spite of mild hypotension.

INTRODUCTION: The Colonoscopy Satisfaction and Safety Questionnaire based on Patient experience (CSSQP) was recently developed and validated within a Bowel Cancer Screening Program. We aimed to identify factor related to patient experience through the CSSQP, including all indications for colonoscopy. Indicators of satisfaction and perceived safety with colonoscopy were also assessed to compare the different centers. METHODS: Multicenter study in nine Spanish hospitals. Consecutive patients who had undergone a colonoscopy completed the CSSQP adding a novel item on bowel preparation. Factors related to patient experiences and data from non-respondents were analyzed. RESULTS: Of 2200 patients, 1753 filled out the questionnaire (response rate 79.7%, sample error 2%). Patients whose colonoscopy indication was a primary colorectal cancer screening (OR: 1.68, 95% CI: 1.15-2.44, p=0.007) or due to a +FIT (OR: 1.73, 95% CI: 1.18-2.53) reported higher satisfaction than patients with gastrointestinal symptoms. In addition, college-educated patients (OR: 2.11, 95% CI: 1.25-3.56) were more likely to report better overall satisfaction than patients with lower education level. Significant differences were observed in the majority of the CSSQP items between centers. Safety incidents were reported by 35 (2%) patients, and 176 (10%) patients reported that they received insufficient information. CONCLUSION: The CSSQP identifies several significant factors on satisfaction and perceived safety in patients referred for colonoscopy for any reason. The CSSQP also allows comparison of patient-identified colonoscopy quality indicators between centers.

Air sac cannulation is used both as an emergency procedure in avian patients with severe upper respiratory compromise, as well as a means of routine ventilation for surgery of the head and neck. The objective of this retrospective study was to describe and quantify the complications associated with air sac cannulation in birds. Medical records were retrieved for all patients that underwent caudal thoracic or abdominal air sac cannulation at a single center between August 2004 and October 2020. Patient signalment, indication for air sac cannulation, location of air sac cannula (ASC) placement, occurrence and category of complications encountered, and survival data were recorded. Eighty-four ASCs were placed in 68 birds across 6 orders; 95.2% (80/84) of cases survived general anesthesia for initial ASC placement. The side and position of ASC placement were known in 33.3% (28/84) and 21.4% (18/84) of cases, respectively. Survival to ASC removal was known in 91.3% (73/80) of cases; 43 (58.9%) of these 73 cases survived to ASC removal. Complications were observed in 32.5% (26/80) of cases, and 11.5% (3/26) of cases died as a direct result of the complication. The most common reported ASC complication was loss of patency in 23.8% (19/80) of cases. Increased likelihoods for complications were seen in cases where exercise intolerance (P = 0.04) or abnormal respiratory sounds (P = 0.04) were reported at presentation. Increased likelihoods for survival to ASC removal were seen with intercostal placements (P = 0.049) and peri-interventional antibiotic therapy (P = 0.005). Decreased likelihood for survival to ASC removal was seen in cases where voice change was reported at presentation (P = 0.02). This study demonstrates a moderate risk of ASC complication, with a guarded overall prognosis for survival to ASC removal.

Bioengineering and reproductive medicine have progressed shoulder to shoulder for several decades. A key point of overlap is the development and clinical translation of technologies to support reproductive health, e.g., scaffold-free constructs, polymeric scaffolds, bioprinting or microfluidics, and hydrogels. Hydrogels are the focus of intense study, and those that are derived from the extracellular matrix (ECM) of reproductive tissues and organs are emerging as promising new players given their results in pre-clinical models. This literature review addresses the recent advances in the use of organ-specific ECM hydrogels in reproductive medicine, considering the entire female reproductive tract. We discuss in-depth papers describing the development of ECM hydrogels, their use in in vitro models, and their in vivo application in preclinical studies. We also summarize the functions of hydrogels, including as grafts, carriers for cell transplantation, or drug depots, and present the potential and possible scope for use of ECM hydrogels in the near future based on recent scientific advances.

OBJECTIVE: The "time is brain" concept denotes the importance of the expedited transfer of patients to stroke care centers. Helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) can reduce the time to definitive care, which could improve neurologic prognosis and reduce mortality. METHODS: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, a search for randomized controlled trials, nonrandomized controlled trials, and prospective and retrospective cohort studies was performed through specific databases from inception to February 2020. Helicopter, acute stroke, and their synonyms (according to Medical Subject Headings) were included in this search. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess the quality of the included studies, and the Egger test was used to assess for publication bias. RESULTS: A total of 8 studies matched the inclusion criteria and were included for meta-analysis. The overall number recruited for helicopter transportation was 1,372, and for emergency standard transportation, it was 8,587. The association among HEMS and mortality was not statistically significant (odds ratio [OR] = 0.7; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.60-1.06; P = .12). There was a significant association between good outcomes and HEMS (OR = 2; 95% CI, 1.79-2.34; P ≤ .001), and the overall poor neurologic outcome was reduced (OR = 0.52; 95% CI, 0.46-0.60; P ≤ .001). CONCLUSION: A good neurologic outcome was higher with HEMS compared with emergency standard transportation. The mortality rate was less in the emergency standard transportation group after pooled analysis but was not significant; the reduction in a poor outcome was statistically significant.

PURPOSE: In two-stage replacements for septic loosening, some studies have suggested an association between bacterial colonisation of spacers and a higher number of complications after implantation of the definitive prosthesis. Our study aimed to determine the reoperation rate of patients undergoing two-stage revision surgery according to the culture results of spacer sonication. METHODS: A retrospective observational study was conducted in which hip or knee spacers implanted at our institution with a diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection from 2010 to 2018 were analysed. Patients were grouped into three categories: A. Patients with positive spacer sonication fluid culture, with or without positive cultures of the rest of the samples. B. Patients with negative spacer sonication culture and negative cultures of the rest of intraoperative samples. C. Patients with negative spacer sonication culture but positive cultures of the rest of intraoperative samples. RESULTS: A total of 45 spacers were analysed: 10 were included in group A, 24 in group B and 11 in group C. The reoperation rate during the first year after the 2-stage revision surgery was 20%, 29.2% and 54.5% for each group, respectively, due to an infection in 10%, 20.8% and 45.5%. Spacers were colonised in all cases by low virulent micro-organisms. CONCLUSION: In our study, bacterial colonisation of the spacer is not associated with a higher rate of reoperation. The group of patients with positive intraoperative cultures during the second-stage had the highest reoperation rate.

The integration of 2D graphene sheets into a porous and macroscopic structure is extremely attractive for application in several electrochemical fields. In this regard, for the first time, the synthesis of 3D graphene aerogels is reported by using a rapid, easy, cost-effective, and scalable at industrial level methodology. These aerogels integrate the intrinsic properties of graphene with a high pore volume. To achieve this ultraporous graphene network, resorcinol/formaldehyde polymer with controllable porosity is employed as a binder and a cross-linker material, and a graphene oxide solution provides the graphene building blocks. Two series of materials with and without catalyst for resorcinol/formaldehyde reaction and with different synthesis conditions and graphene contents are studied. The resulting graphene aerogels present low density, large macroporosity, and electrical conductivity values as high as 852 S m-1 , with 97.58% of porosity, which is the highest value of electrical conductivity reported so far in the literature for ultralight-weight graphene aerogels.

Endometrial function is essential for embryo implantation and pregnancy, but managing endometrial thickness that is too thin to support pregnancy or an endometrium of compromised functionality due to intrauterine adhesions is an ongoing challenge in reproductive medicine. Here, we review current and emerging therapeutic and experimental options for endometrial regeneration with a focus on animal models used to study solutions for Asherman's syndrome and endometrial atrophy, which both involve a damaged endometrium. A review of existing literature was performed that confirmed the lack of consensus on endometrial therapeutic options, though promising new alternatives have emerged in recent years (platelet-rich plasma, exosomes derived from stem cells, bioengineering-based techniques, endometrial organoids, among others). In the future, basic research using established experimental models of endometrial pathologies (combined with new high-tech solutions) and human clinical trials with large population sizes are needed to evaluate these emerging and new endometrial therapies.

BACKGROUND: Ovarian senescence is a normal age-associated phenomenon, but increasingly younger women are affected by diminished ovarian reserves or premature ovarian insufficiency. There is an urgent need for developing therapies to improve ovarian function in these patients. In this context, previous studies suggest that stem cell-secreted factors could have regenerative properties in the ovaries. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to test the ability of various human plasma sources, enriched in stem cell-secreted factors, and the mechanisms behind their regenerative properties, to repair ovarian damage and to promote follicular development. STUDY DESIGN: In the first phase, the effects of human plasma enriched in bone marrow stem cell soluble factors by granulocyte colony-stimulating factor mobilization, umbilical cord blood plasma, and their activated forms on ovarian niche, follicle development, and breeding performance were assessed in mouse models of chemotherapy-induced ovarian damage (n=7 per group). In addition, the proteomic profile of each plasma was analyzed to find putative proteins and mechanism involved in their regenerative properties in ovarian tissue. In the second phase, the most effective plasma treatment was validated in human ovarian cortex xenografted in immunodeficient mice (n=4 per group). RESULTS: Infusion of human plasma enriched bone marrow stem cell soluble factors by granulocyte colony-stimulating factor mobilization or of umbilical cord blood plasma-induced varying degrees of microvessel formation and cell proliferation and reduced apoptosis in ovarian tissue to rescue follicular development and fertility in mouse models of ovarian damage. Plasma activation enhanced these effects. Activated granulocyte colony-stimulating factor plasma was the most potent inducing ovarian rescue in both mice and human ovaries, and proteomic analysis indicated that its effects may be mediated by soluble factors related to cell cycle and apoptosis, gene expression, signal transduction, cell communication, response to stress, and DNA repair of double-strand breaks, the most common form of age-induced damage in oocytes. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggested that stem cell-secreted factors present in both granulocyte colony-stimulating factor-mobilized and umbilical cord blood plasma could be an effective treatment for increasing the reproductive outcomes in women with impaired ovarian function owing to several causes. The activated granulocyte colony-stimulating factor plasma, which is already enriched in both stem cell-secreted factors and platelet-enclosed growth factors, seems to be the most promising treatment because of its most potent restorative effects on the ovary together with the autologous source.

BACKGROUND: The objective of the study was to analyze the associations of family aspects, physical fitness, and physical activity with mental-health indicators in a sample of adolescents from Colombia. METHODS: A cross-sectional study carried out in a sample of 988 adolescents (11-17 years-old) from public schools in Montería. Mental-health indicators were evaluated: Stress, depression, anxiety, happiness, health-related quality of life (HRQL), and subjective wellness. Family aspects included family affluence, functionality, and structure. These variables, along with physical activity and screen time, were measured with questionnaires. A fitness score was established by assessing the components of fitness: Flexibility, cardiorespiratory fitness, grip strength, and lower-limb strength. Associations were analyzed by multivariate linear regression models. RESULTS: Nuclear family structure was associated with lower stress level (- 1.08, CI: - 1.98 - -0.18), and family functionality was associated with all the studied mental-health indicators (Stress: -0.11, CI: - 0.17 - -0.06; depression: -0.20, CI: - 0.25 - -0.16; trait anxiety: -0.13, CI: - 0.18 - -0.09; state anxiety: -0.12, CI: - 0.17 - -0.08; happiness: 0.09, CI: 0.07 - 0.1; HRQL: 1.13, CI: 0.99 - 1.27; subjective wellness: 1.67, CI: 1.39 - 1.95). Physical activity was associated (ß, 95% Confidence Interval (CI)) with depression (- 0.27, - 0.57 - -0.02), trait anxiety (- 0.39, CI: - 0.65 - -0.13), state anxiety (- 0.30, CI: - 0.53 - -0.07), happiness (0.14, CI: 0.06 - 0.22), HRQL (3.63, CI: 2.86 - 4.43), and subjective wellness (5.29, CI: 3.75 - 6.83). Physical fitness was associated with stress (- 0.80, CI: - 1.17 - -0.43), state anxiety (- 0.45, CI: - 0.73 - -0.17), and HRQL (1.75, CI: 0.82 - 2.69); screen time was only associated with stress (0.06, CI: 0.02 - 0.11). CONCLUSIONS: Family aspects were associated with mental health indicators, especially family functionality which was associated all mental-health indicators. Similarly, fitness, physical activity, and screen time were associated with the studied indicators of mental health. Particularly, physical activity was associated with all the mental-health indicators, except stress, which was only associated with screen time. Physical fitness was associated with stress, anxiety, and HRQL. Future studies could explore the causal relationships of fitness, physical activity and screen time with mental health in adolescents.

BACKGROUND: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which resulted in the worldwide coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic of 2020, has particularly affected Latin America. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the study was to analyze the imaging findings of pulmonary COVID-19 in a large pediatric series. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Children with SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by either quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction from nasopharyngeal swabs or presence of circulating immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies and who underwent chest radiograph or CT or both were included in this retrospective multicenter study. Three pediatric radiologists independently reviewed radiographs and CTs to identify the presence, localization, distribution and extension of pulmonary lesions. RESULTS: We included 140 children (71 female; median age 6.3 years, interquartile range 1.6-12.1 years) in the study. Peribronchial thickening (93%), ground-glass opacities (79%) and vascular engorgement (63%) were the most frequent findings on 131 radiographs. Ground-glass opacities (91%), vascular engorgement (84%) and peribronchial thickening (72%) were the most frequent findings on 32 CTs. Peribronchial thickening (100%), ground-glass opacities (83%) and pulmonary vascular engorgement (79%) were common radiograph findings in asymptomatic children (n=25). Ground-glass opacity and consolidation were significantly higher in children who needed intensive care admission or died (92% and 48%), in contrast with children with a favorable outcome (71% and 24%, respectively; P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Asymptomatic children and those with mild symptoms of COVID-19 showed mainly peribronchial thickening, ground-glass opacities and pulmonary vascular engorgement on radiographs. Ground-glass opacity and consolidation were more common in children who required intensive care admission or died.

The ability to measure the quality of antibiotic prescriptions is a critical element in all antimicrobial stewardship programs. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the clinimetric properties of 32 recently developed outpatient quality indicators (OQIs) and to identify potential room for improvement in antibiotic use in a primary health care (PHC) area. The study was performed in a PHC area in Barcelona, Spain with 260,657 inhabitants, nine PHC centers, and a 400-bed acute-care teaching hospital. We selected 9 of the 32 OQIs that were applicable to our PHC area and evaluated them for measurability, adherence, and room for improvement. Nonmeasurable OQIs, OQIs without room for improvement, and OQIs beyond the scope of the PHC antimicrobial stewardship program were excluded. Data from 260,561 registered patients were assessed. Measurability was high for all OQIs except those that required manual recording of the clinical diagnosis (OQIs on group A streptococcal diagnostic testing). Adherence to guidelines was poor for most OQIs, but particularly for the indicator on the avoidance of antibiotics for viral or self-limiting bacterial infections, where we observed more than 60% room for improvement for both acute tonsillitis and sinusitis. The QIs evaluated were applicable to clinical practice and proved useful for identifying areas with room for improvement in our setting and for guiding the design of future interventions with specific objectives.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Most fulfillment and benchmarking information for colonoscopy quality indicators has been obtained from studies of primary screening colonoscopies. We analyzed differences in the fulfillment of colonoscopy quality indicators based on the indication for endoscopy. METHODS: We performed an observational, multicenter, cross-sectional study of 14,867 patients who underwent endoscopy procedures for gastrointestinal symptoms (40.3%), a positive result from a fecal immunochemical test (36.0%), postpolypectomy surveillance (15.3%), or primary screening (8.4%), from February 2016 through December 2017 at 14 centers in Spain. We evaluated rates of adequate colon cleansing, cecal intubation, adenoma detection, and colorectal cancer detection, among others. We used findings from primary screening colonoscopies as the reference standard. RESULTS: Fewer than 90% of patients had adequate bowel preparation; 83.1% of patients with gastrointestinal symptoms had adequate bowel preparation (odds ratio [OR] compared with patients with primary screening colonoscopies, 0.62; 95% CI, 0.49-0.78) and 85.3% of patients receiving postpolypectomy surveillance had adequate bowel preparation (OR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.55-0.91). The cecal intubation rate was also lower in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms (93.1%) (OR, 0.34; 95% CI, 0.22-0.52). The adenoma detection rate was higher in patients with a positive result from a fecal immunochemical test (46.4%) (OR, 2.01; 95% CI, 1.71-2.35) and in patients undergoing postpolypectomy surveillance (48.2%) (OR, 1.41; 95% CI, 1.20-1.67). The highest proportion of patients with colorectal cancer was in the gastrointestinal symptom group (5.1%) (OR, 5.24; 95% CI, 2.30-11.93) and the lowest was in patients undergoing surveillance (0.8%) (OR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.32-2.14). CONCLUSIONS: Fulfillment of colonoscopy performance measures varies substantially by indication. Policies addressing performance measures beyond colonoscopy screening procedures should be developed. Benchmarking recommendations could be adjusted according to colonoscopy indication.

One of the critical elements of antimicrobial stewardship programs is the ability to measure the quality of antibiotic prescriptions. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the performance properties of a set of previously developed quality indicators (QIs) and to identify the potential room for improvement in antibiotic use in our setting. A monthly cross-sectional point prevalence survey was conducted in a 400-bed acute care teaching hospital, from June to November 2015. All adult patients treated for ≥24 hours with antibiotic therapy for a suspected hospital- or community-acquired bacterial infection were included. Performance scores (adherence, room for improvement, interobserver reliability, and applicability) were calculated for 8 QIs. A total of 362 patients were evaluated. Adherence to the whole set of QIs was accomplished for 14.1% of evaluable patients. The QIs with greater room for improvement were adequate request for blood cultures (60.6%), therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) (59.1%), sequential antibiotic therapy within 72 hours (48.2%), and empirical antibiotic therapy according to local guidelines (30.4%). The percentage of patients receiving unnecessary antibiotic treatment in the absence of clinical or microbiological evidence of infection after 5 days was 12.2%. All indicators scored kappa values of ≥0.6, suggesting good interobserver reliability. Low applicability (6.1% of reviewed patients) was found only for the TDM QI. The QIs analyzed were found to be applicable, showed good interobserver reliability, and were useful tools to identify areas with potential room for improvement in antibiotic use.

RESUMEN

The cubic phase of pure zirconia (ZrO2) is stabilized in dense thin films through a controlled introduction of oxygen vacancies (O defects) by cold-plasma-based sputtering deposition. Here, we show that the cubic crystals present at the film/substrate interface near-region exhibit fast ionic transport, which is superior to what is obtained with similar yttrium-stabilized cubic zirconia thin films.

RESUMEN

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the fourth cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. In an attempt to raise awareness on this situation, and to implement preventive measures, March 31st has been established as international colorectal cancer awareness day. Our country, with the Spanish "Alianza para la Prevención del Cáncer de Colon", pioneered in 2008 an institution that brought together scientific and civil societies to pursue this goal. A stabilization, even a decrease in the incidence and mortality of this condition has been reported in western countries for the last few years, which may be attributed to a number of highly relevant factors.
