BACKGROUND: Breast cancer patients exhibit various response patterns to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). However, it is uncertain whether diverse tumor response patterns to NAC in breast cancer patients can predict survival outcomes. We aimed to develop and validate radiomic signatures indicative of tumor shrinkage and therapeutic response for improved survival analysis. METHODS: This retrospective, multicohort study included three datasets. The development dataset, consisting of preoperative and early NAC DCE-MRI data from 255 patients, was used to create an imaging signature-based multitask model for predicting tumor shrinkage patterns and pathological complete response (pCR). Patients were categorized as pCR, nonpCR with concentric shrinkage (CS), or nonpCR with non-CS, with prediction performance measured by the area under the curve (AUC). The prognostic validation dataset (n = 174) was used to assess the prognostic value of the imaging signatures for overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) using a multivariate Cox model. The gene expression data (genomic validation dataset, n = 112) were analyzed to determine the biological basis of the response patterns. RESULTS: The multitask learning model, utilizing 17 radiomic signatures, achieved AUCs of 0.886 for predicting tumor shrinkage and 0.760 for predicting pCR. Patients who achieved pCR had the best survival outcomes, while nonpCR patients with a CS pattern had better survival than non-CS patients did, with significant differences in OS and RFS (p = 0.00012 and p = 0.00063, respectively). Gene expression analysis highlighted the involvement of the IL-17 and estrogen signaling pathways in response variability. CONCLUSIONS: Radiomic signatures effectively predict NAC response patterns in breast cancer patients and are associated with specific survival outcomes. The CS pattern in nonpCR patients indicates better survival.

BACKGROUND: The design of DNA materials with specific nanostructures for biomedical tissue engineering applications remains a challenge. High-dimensional DNA nanomaterials are difficult to prepare and are unstable; moreover, their synthesis relies on heavy metal ions. Herein, we developed a bimodal DNA self-origami material with good biocompatibility and differing functions using a simple synthesis method. We simulated and characterized this material using a combination of oxDNA, freeze-fracture electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Subsequently, we optimized the synthesis procedure to fix the morphology of this material. RESULTS: Using molecular dynamics simulation, we found that the bimodal DNA self-origami material exhibited properties of spontaneous stretching and curling and could be fixed in a single morphology via synthesis control. The application of different functional nucleic acids enabled the achievement of various biological functions, and the performance of functional nucleic acids was significantly enhanced in the material. Consequently, leveraging the various functional nucleic acids enhanced by this material will facilitate the attainment of diverse biological functions. CONCLUSION: The developed design can comprehensively reveal the morphology and dynamics of DNA materials. We thus report a novel strategy for the construction of high-dimensional DNA materials and the application of functional nucleic acid-enhancing materials.

Due to its unique structure, articular cartilage has limited abilities to undergo self-repair after injury. Additionally, the repair of articular cartilage after injury has always been a difficult problem in the field of sports medicine. Previous studies have shown that the therapeutic use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their extracellular vesicles (EVs) has great potential for promoting cartilage repair. Recent studies have demonstrated that most transplanted stem cells undergo apoptosis in vivo, and the apoptotic EVs (ApoEVs) that are subsequently generated play crucial roles in tissue repair. Additionally, MSCs are known to exist under low-oxygen conditions in the physiological environment, and these hypoxic conditions can alter the functional and secretory properties of MSCs as well as their secretomes. This study aimed to investigate whether ApoEVs that are isolated from adipose-derived MSCs cultured under hypoxic conditions (hypoxic apoptotic EVs [H-ApoEVs]) exert greater effects on cartilage repair than those that are isolated from cells cultured under normoxic conditions. Through in vitro cell proliferation and migration experiments, we demonstrated that H-ApoEVs exerted enhanced effects on stem cell proliferation, stem cell migration, and bone marrow derived macrophages (BMDMs) M2 polarization compared to ApoEVs. Furthermore, we utilized a modified gelatine matrix/3D-printed extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffold complex as a carrier to deliver H-ApoEVs into the joint cavity, thus establishing a cartilage regeneration system. The 3D-printed ECM scaffold provided mechanical support and created a microenvironment that was conducive to cartilage regeneration, and the H-ApoEVs further enhanced the regenerative capacity of endogenous stem cells and the immunomodulatory microenvironment of the joint cavity; thus, this approach significantly promoted cartilage repair. In conclusion, this study confirmed that a ApoEVs delivery system based on a modified gelatine matrix/3D-printed ECM scaffold together with hypoxic preconditioning enhances the functionality of stem cell-derived ApoEVs and represents a promising approach for promoting cartilage regeneration.

Stem cells possess exceptional proliferation and differentiation abilities, making them highly promising for targeted recruitment research in tissue engineering and other clinical applications. DNA is a naturally water-soluble, biocompatible, and highly editable material that is widely used in cell recruitment research. However, DNA nanomaterials face challenges, such as poor stability, complex synthesis processes, and demanding storage conditions, which limit their potential applications. In this study, we designed a highly stable DNA nanomaterial that embeds nucleic acid aptamers in the single strand region. This material has the ability to specifically bind, recruit, and capture human mesenchymal stem cells. The synthesis process involves rolling circle amplification and topological isomerization, and it can be stored for extended periods under varying temperatures and humidity conditions. This DNA material offers high specificity, ease of fabrication, simple preservation, and low cost, providing a novel approach to stem cell recruitment strategies.

Tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.) is a woody plant with high ornamental, medicinal, and oil values. However, its low rooting rate and poor rooting quality are bottleneck issues in the micropropagation of P. ostii. The WUSCHEL-related homeobox (WOX) family plays a crucial role in root development. In this study, based on the screening of the genome and root transcriptome database, we identified ten WOX members in P. ostii. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the ten PoWOX proteins clustered into three major clades, the WUS, intermediate, and ancient clade, respectively. The conserved motifs and tertiary structures of PoWOX proteins located in the same clade exhibited higher similarity. The analysis of cis-regulatory elements in the promoter indicated that PoWOX genes are involved in plant growth and development, phytohormones, and stress responses. The expression analysis revealed that PoWOX genes are expressed in distinct tissues. PoWOX4, PoWOX5, PoWOX11, and PoWOX13b are preferentially expressed in roots at the early stage of root primordium formation, suggesting their role in the initiation and development of roots. These results will provide a comprehensive reference for the evolution and potential function of the WOX family and offer guidance for further study on the root development of tree peony.

Paeonia ostii is a worldwide ornamental flower and an emerging oil crop. Zyotic embryogenesis is a critical process during seed development, and it can provide a basis for improving the efficiency of somatic embryogenesis (SE). In this study, transcriptome sequencing of embryo development was performed to investigate gene expression profiling in P. ostii and identified Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to transcription factors, plant hormones, and antioxidant enzymes. The results indicated that IAA (Indole-3-acetic acid), GA (Gibberellin), BR (Brassinosteroid) and ETH (Ethylene) were beneficial to early embryonic morphogenesis, while CTK (Cytokinin) and ABA (Abscisic Acid) promoted embryo morphogenesis and maturation. The antioxidant enzymes' activity was the highest in early embryos and an important participant in embryo formation. The high expression of the genes encoding fatty acid desaturase was beneficial to fast oil accumulation. Representative DEGs were selected and validated using qRT-PCR. Protein-protein interaction network (PPI) was predicted, and six central node proteins, including AUX1, PIN1, ARF6, LAX3, ABCB19, PIF3, and PIF4, were screened. Our results provided new insights into the formation of embryo development and even somatic embryo development in tree peonies.

Tree peonies (Paeonia suffruticosa Andr. and hybrids) are well-known ornamental and medicinal plants cultivated in temperate and subtropical regions around the world. From June to September 2021, severe leaf spot disease was observed on 3 tree peony cultivars ('Luoyanghong', 'Moyushenghui', 'Roufurong') in Xinxiang (35º29´N, 113º95´E) and Luoyang (34º64´N, 112º49´E), Henan Province, China. Leaf spot incidence was as high as 28% ('Luoyanghong'), 45% ('Moyushenghui') and 67% ('Roufurong'), respectively. Symptoms appeared initially as small purple spots less than 1 mm in diameter in the middle and upper parts of the leaves, and then evolved to coalescent lesions, causing brown scorch ultimately. From each cultivar, 5 diseased leaves were collected. Leaflet tissues (3-4 mm2) cut from spot margins were surface sterilized in 75% alcohol for 45 s, washed 5 times with sterile distilled water, and then cultivated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium at 28 °C in the dark. Eleven isolates were obtained, and colonies grown from single conidia on PDA were 80-85 mm in diameter after 10 d, with scattered small, dark-based spikes on the surface of the colonies. The aerial mycelium was cottony, dense, and dark gray near the center on the reverse side. Conidia were cylindrical to clavate, with rounded apex and rounded base, and the conidia contents were granular, 8.44-14.06×3.60-4.31 µm (mean=11.28×3.69 µm, n=40). Appressoria were mostly subglobose or with a few broad lobes, pale to medium brown, 3.36-6.72×3.35-5.60 µm (mean=5.02×4.55 µm, n=20). Based on the culture representation and conidial morphology, the isolates were characterized as Colletotrichum gloeosporioides species complex (Weir et al. 2012; Fu et al. 2019). To further identity the species, the actin (ACT), calmodulin (CAL), chitin synthase (CHS-1), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), and the ribosomal internal transcribed spacers (ITS) loci of isolates PSW0002, PSW0008 and PSW0009 were amplified using ACT-512F/ACT-783R, CL1C/CL2C, CHS-79F/CHS-345R, GDF/GDR, and ITS1/ITS4, primers (Weir et al. 2012; Schena et al; 2014; Kim et al. 2021; Li et al. 2021). Fifteen sequences were deposited in GenBank (ACT for OP225605, OP225606, and OP225607, CAL for OP225608, OP225609 and OP225610, CHS for OP225611, OP225612 and OP225613, GAPDH for ON321897, OP225614, and OP225615, and ITS for ON323473, OP214349 and OP214350 ), which showed 100% sequence similarity to Colletotrichum aenigma (JX009443 and JX009519 for ACT, JX009683 and JX009684 for CAL, JX009774 and JX009903 for CHS-1, JX010244 and JX009913 for GAPDH, JX010243 and JX010148 for ITS). Three isolates clustered with C. aenigma (ex-holotype culture ICMP 18608) in the multi-locus phylogenetic tree with a bootstrap value of 100%. To achieve Koch's postulates, pathogenicity was tested on 5-year-old healthy potted plants ('Luoyanghong'). Thirty leaves were inoculated with 10 µL conidial suspension (isolate PSW0002, 1×106 conidia/mL) and the controls were inoculated with sterile water. Plants were placed in a greenhouse at 28°C under conditions with 12 h photoperiod and 90% relative humidity. After 5 to 10 days, distinct spots were observed on the inoculated leaves, while the control leaves showed no symptoms. C. aenigma was reisolated from all inoculated leaves, but not from the control. C. aenigma has been reported to cause anthracnose on Pyrus pyrifolia (Weir et al. 2012), Camellia sasanqua (Chen et al. 2019), Juglans regia (Wang et al. 2020), Paeonia ostii (Ren et al. 2020), and Capsicum annuum (Sharma et al. 2022). A previous study reported C. gloeosporioides as a pathogen of anthracnose in tree peonies in China (Xuan et al. 2017), the typical symptoms were big necrotic lesions (5-10 mm diam) on leaves,which were significantly different from those caused by C. aenigma. To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. aenigma causing anthracnose in tree peonies in China. This finding may help to take effective control of anthracnose in tree peonies.

Infections with multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens are increasingly concerning for public health. Synthesized antimicrobial peptide A4 (SAMP-A4), a peptide computationally designed by our research team, is a potential drug candidate. However, the antimicrobial peptide SAMP-A4 is easily degraded in serum. To obtain SAMP-A4 analogues with high biostability, chemical modifications at its N-terminus, including fatty acid conjugation, glycosylation and PEGylation, were carried out. The results showed that the introduction of hydrophobic fatty acids at the N-terminus of SAMP-A4 is better than hydrophilic glycosylation and PEGylation. With increasing fatty acid chain length, the stability of SAMP-A4 analogues in serum and trypsin solutions is significantly improved, and the activities against MDR bacteria and Candida are significantly enhanced. There is no obvious change in haemolysis even when hexanoic acid is coupled with SAMP-A4, so the resulting analogue SAMP-A4-C6, SAMP-A4 conjugated with hexanoic acid, is the most likely of the analogues to become a drug.

The exosomes from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED-Exos) have exhibited potential therapeutic role in dental and oral disorders. The biological effects of exosomes largely depend on cellular origin and physiological status of donor cell. In the present study, we explored the influence of conditioned exosomes from SHED with osteogenic induction on periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) in vitro. Conditioned SHED-Exos from a 3-day osteogenic supernatant were applied during PDLSCs osteogenic differentiation. We found that conditioned SHED-Exos had no cytotoxicity on PDLSCs viability assessed by CCK-8 assay. These SHED-Exos promoted PDLSCs osteogenic differentiation with deep Alizarin red staining, high alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and upregulated osteogenic gene expression (RUNX2, OPN and OCN). We further found BMP/Smad signaling and Wnt/ß-catenin were activated by enhanced Smad1/5/8 phosphorylation and increased nuclear ß-catenin protein expression. Inhibiting these two signaling pathways with specific inhibitors (cardamonin and LDN193189) remarkably weakened the enhanced osteogenic differentiation. Furthermore, Wnt3a and BMP2 were upregulated in SHED and SHED-Exos. Silencing Wnt3a and BMP2 in SHED-Exos partially counteracts the enhanced osteogenic differentiation. Our findings indicate that conditioned SHED-Exos-enhanced PDLSCs osteogenic differentiation was partly due to its carrying Wnt3a and BMP2. These data provide new insights into the use of SHED-Exos in periodontitis-induced bone defects therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Malocclusion Impact Questionnaire (MIQ) into Chinese and to assess the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the MIQ (MIQ/C) for use among adolescents with malocclusion in China. MATERIALS AND METHOD: First, the MIQ/C was developed according to international guidelines. Then, the MIQ/C was filled out by 536 adolescents between 10 and 16 years of age. This study used exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), convergent validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability to evaluate the psychometric properties of the MIQ/C. RESULTS: Following EFA, three domains were extracted, accounting for 65.950% of the total variance. The CFA results showed that the fit indices of each factor in the three-factor model all reached the standard (chi-square/DF = 2.591, GFI = 0.919, TLI = 0.926, CFI = 0.928, RMSEA = 0.076). The scale evidenced a good relationship with the two global questions, indicating good convergent validity. The Cronbach alpha value and the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) value of the MIQ/C were 0.929 and 0.893, respectively. CONCLUSION: The MIQ/C demonstrated good reliability and validity and can be further studied and applied in Chinese adolescents with malocclusion. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The MIQ/C can be applied to assess the psychosocial impact of malocclusion among Chinese adolescents.

BACKGROUND: The Child Oral Health Impact Profile - Preschool version (COHIP-PS) is the first validated questionnaire designed to assess the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of preschool children with varying oral health-related conditions. AIM: To cross-culturally adapt the original version of COHIP-PS into Chinese and to assess the psychometric properties of a web-based version of the COHIP-PS (eCOHIP-PS/C). DESIGN: The eCOHIP-PS/C was first created using current guidelines. Then, the eCOHIP-PS/C was administered to caregivers having children 2-5 years old. The reliability of the eCOHIP-PS/C was estimated using Cronbach's alpha and the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Cross-cultural validity and convergent validity were also investigated. RESULTS: The study included 260 children (mean age 4.3 years). Cronbach's alpha of eCOHIP-PS/C was 0.903 and the ICC of the scale was 0.862. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) demonstrated that a four-component model was the best solution for the eCOHIP-PS/C. The fit indices were as follows: χ2 /df = 2.176, TLI = 0.942, CFI = 0.946, GFI = 0.927, and RMSEA = 0.075. In addition, a good relationship was found between the eCOHIP-PS/C and the global oral health question. CONCLUSION: The eCOHIP-PS/C is a reliable and valid tool for assessing the OHRQoL among Chinese preschool children.

AIM: Building on previous psychometric work, we aimed to further assess the minimally important difference (MID) of the Oral Health Impact Profile for Chronic Periodontitis (OHIP-CP). METHODS: In total, 240 consecutive patients with chronic periodontitis were recruited in the study. The OHIP-CP was completed at baseline and after six weeks. Methodology testing included the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and MID. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed to assess the fit of the previously proposed three-factor model. The MID of this questionnaire was determined by applying anchor-based and distribution-based approaches. RESULTS: The CFA supported a three-factor model for the OHIP-CP with acceptable fit to the data. The fit indices were χ2 /df = 2.231, GFI = 0.935, TLI = 0.969 and CFI = 0.976, RMSEA = 0.076. The OHIP-CP scores showed significant improvements after treatment (p < .001). The anchor-based MIDs of OHIP-CP for "oral function restriction," "oral pain" and "psychological and social impact," and total score were 2, 1, 4 and 7 points, respectively. The effect sizes (ES) and standardized response mean (SRM) for the OHIP-CP were moderate to large. CONCLUSIONS: The MID of the OHIP-CP is recommended for interpreting clinically meaningful change in oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) over time.

OBJECTIVE: To assess dental treatment under dental general anesthesia (DGA) among Chinese preschool children by investigating changes in their oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), the incidence of postoperative complications, and parental satisfaction. METHOD: A single-center prospective cohort study was conducted. A total of 190 children who received treatment for early childhood caries (ECC) under DGA were included. The primary outcome was a change in the children's OHRQoL at 1 month after the operation compared to that at baseline, which was measured by the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS). The secondary outcomes were the incidence of complications within 1 day after treatment and parental satisfaction with the DGA treatment. RESULTS: In total, 180 participants were successfully reevaluated after the operation, yielding a 94.7% follow-up response rate. The total ECOHIS score decreased by 76.3% (P < 0.01) after treatment, demonstrating a large effect. Approximately 74.4% of the children complained of at least one complication, including sleepiness (43.3%), emergence agitation (38.9%), nausea/vomiting (13.9%), dizziness (10.6%), and fever (3.3%), on the first day. Approximately 85.5% of the parents were satisfied with the DGA treatment. CONCLUSION: DGA treatment has a positive effect on Chinese preschool children's OHRQoL and is evaluated highly by their parents. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Dental treatment under general anesthesia improved the OHRQoL of Chinese preschool children.

OBJECTIVE: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Craniofacial Pain and Disability Inventory (CF-PDI) into Chinese and, to evaluate measurement properties of the web-based version of the CF-PDI. METHODS: The Chinese version (CF-PDI/C) was first produced according the guidelines. Then, the web-based version of CF-PDI/C (eCF-PDI/C) was developed by our team and a third-party survey provider. The eCF-PDI/C was distributed to patients with painful temporomandibular disorders (TMD) with or without headache to evaluate its psychometric properties. The reliability of the eCF-PDI/C was detected by internal consistency and test-retest reliability. The validity of the measure was performed through construct validity and convergent validity. RESULTS: A total of 206 patients were recruited. The Cronbach's α value and the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) value of the eCF-PDI/C was .912 and .82, respectively. Following exploratory factor analysis (EFA), three factors were extracted, accounting for 77.153% of the total variation. With regard to the convergent validity, the measure evidenced a good relationship with the global health question. CONCLUSIONS: The eCF-PDI/C displays good reliability and validity through rigorous performance tests. This can be recommended for use among patients with painful TMD with or without headache.

BACKGROUND: The Caries Impacts and Experiences Questionnaire for Children (CARIES-QC) is a newly developed child-centred caries-specific quality of life measure. AIM: We aimed to translate and adapt the CARIES-QC into Chinese and to validate the Chinese version of the CARIES-QC (CARIES-QC/C). DESIGN: The CARIES-QC/C was first produced according to international guidelines. Then, the CARIES-QC/C was distributed to children with active dental caries to evaluate its psychometric properties. Reliability of the CARIES-QC/C was investigated by internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Cross-cultural validity and convergent validity were performed to analyse the validity of the CARIES-QC/C. Cross-cultural validity was investigated using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). RESULTS: A total of 206 children were recruited. Cronbach's alpha value of the CARIES-QC/C was .942, and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of the measure was .830. The CARIES-QC/C had an acceptable fit to the data in the one-factor model as confirmed by the CFA. The model fit parameters were chi-square/DF = 2.15, RMSEA = 0.07, GFI = 0.92, CFI = 0.98, and TLI = 0.96. For the convergent validity of the CARIES-QC/C, the measure evidenced good relationship with the global question. CONCLUSION: The CARIES-QC/C displays good reliability and validity through strict performance tests. This measure may be used as an effective tool in future clinical trials.

FAM3B has been suggested to play important roles in the progression of many cancers, such as gastric, oral, colon and prostate cancer. However, little is known about the role of FAM3B in human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In the present study, we found that FAM3B expression was higher in ESCC tissues than in adjacent normal tissues. Using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, we found similar results in cell lines. FAM3B expression was significantly related to T/TNM stage. Importantly, Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that a high expression level of FAM3B predicted a poor outcome for ESCC patients. Overexpression of FAM3B inhibits ESCC cell death, increases oesophageal tumour growth in xenografted nude mice, and promotes ESCC cell migration and invasion. Further studies confirmed that FAM3B regulates the AKT-MDM2-p53 pathway and two core epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition process markers, Snail and E-cadherin. Our results provide new insights into the role of FAM3B in the progression of ESCC and suggest that FAM3B may be a promising molecular target and diagnostic marker for ESCC.

BACKGROUND: The eighth edition of TNM staging for esophageal cancer will be implemented at 2018. The stations 5, 6, and 10 lymph nodes (LNs) have been omitted from the regional lymph node map for the new TNM staging. However, the role and prognostic significance of these LN stations were not clear. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the revised nodal staging is appropriate and to verify the role, prognostic significance, and therapeutic value of these LNs in esophageal cancer. METHODS: The records of patients who underwent esophagectomy for cancer in our department between 2007 and 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. The rate of metastases was calculated for stations 5, 6, and 10 LNs. LN metastasis and patient survival were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 1637 patients were included. The calculated rate of metastasis to stations 5, 6, and 10 was 3.2%, 2.3%, and 4.9%, respectively. No difference was found in the N stage determined by the seventh and eighth edition N staging systems. The status of station 5, 6, or 10 was not associated with long-term survival according to Cox proportional hazards model analysis. CONCLUSIONS: Metastasis to stations 5, 6, or 10 LNs was infrequent. Omitting of stations 5, 6, and 10 LNs in the eighth edition TNM staging did not influence the accuracy and survival-predicting efficacy. The therapeutic value of lymphadenectomy of stations 5, 6, and 10 was limited. The status of stations 5, 6, and 10 LNs was not associated with long-term survival.

OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to validate the Centrality of Pain Scale (COPS) for use in Chinese patients with painful temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). METHODS: The Centrality of Pain Scale was firstly translated and cross-culturally adapted following international guidelines. In total, 166 patients with TMD were recruited to complete the Chinese version of the COPS (COPS-C). In addition to the COPS-C, the patients were also administered the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) and the Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (PSEQ). The reliability of the COPS-C was evaluated using internal consistency and test-retest methods. The construct validity of the COPS-C was evaluated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Convergent validity was determined by analyzing the correlations between COPS-C scores and the scores of the PCS and PSEQ. RESULTS: Cronbach's alpha for the total COPS-C score was 0.942. The interitem correlations ranged from 0.356 to 0.901. The intraclass correlation coefficient values of the COPS-C ranged between 0.815 and 0.929. The results of the EFA indicated a one-factor solution for the measure, accounting for 70.4% of the total observed variance. The factor loadings of all items ranged from 0.713 to 0.917. Regarding convergent validity, the COPS-C had moderate correlations with the PCS and the PSEQ. CONCLUSIONS: The results provide initial evidence that the COPS-C is a reliable and valid measure. It can be used as a suitable instrument for Chinese patients with TMD.

BACKGROUND: Intrathoracic esophagogastrostomy plays an important role in minimally invasive Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy for cancer. Intrathoracic anastomosis with robot-assisted Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy (RAILE) includes hand-sewn and circular stapler methods, which remain technically challenging. In this study, we modified the techniques for intrathoracic anastomosis at RAILE, in order to simplify the complex procedures. METHODS: "Side-insertion" technique was used for anvil placement and purse string suture for intrathoracic anastomosis at RAILE. Medical records for consecutive patients who had undergone robot-assisted minimally invasive Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy for cancer between January 2015 and June 2018 were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of consecutive 31 patients were enrolled. There was no conversion to open thoracotomy in this cohort. Mean operation duration in the robotic group was 387.4 ± 68.2 min. Median estimated blood loss was 110 mL (range 50-400 mL). Two patients (6.5%) had postoperative anastomotic leak. No postoperative reoperation was needed and there were no mortality. Six patients (19.4%) had anastomotic stricture and 2 patients of them needed endoscopic dilation. CONCLUSION: RAILE is safe and feasible. Our modified procedure highlighting the "side-insertion" method may simplify the process of intrathoracic anvil placement and purse string suture for anastomosis at RAILE.
