RESUMEN

Dynamic therapies, which induce reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in situ through endogenous and exogenous stimulation, are emerging as attractive options for tumor treatment. However, the complexity of the tumor substantially limits the efficacy of individual stimulus-triggered dynamic therapy. Herein, bimetallic copper and ruthenium (Cu@Ru) core-shell nanoparticles are applied for endo-exogenous stimulation-triggered dynamic therapy. The electronic structure of Cu@Ru is regulated through the ligand effects to improve the adsorption level for small molecules, such as water and oxygen. The core-shell heterojunction interface can rapidly separate electron-hole pairs generated by ultrasound and light stimulation, which initiate reactions with adsorbed small molecules, thus enhancing ROS generation. This synergistically complements tumor treatment together with ROS from endogenous stimulation. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate that Cu@Ru nanoparticles can induce tumor cell apoptosis and ferroptosis through generated ROS. This study provides a new paradigm for endo-exogenous stimulation-based synergistic tumor treatment.

BACKGROUND: Exploring the neural basis related to different mood states is a critical issue for understanding the pathophysiology underlying mood switching in bipolar disorder (BD), but research has been scarce and inconsistent. METHODS: Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data were acquired from 162 patients with BD: 33 (hypo)manic, 64 euthymic, and 65 depressive, and 80 healthy controls (HCs). The differences of large-scale brain network functional connectivity (FC) between the four groups were compared and correlated with clinical characteristics. To validate the generalizability of our findings, we recruited a small longitudinal independent sample of BD patients (n = 11). In addition, we examined topological nodal properties across four groups as exploratory analysis. RESULTS: A specific strengthened pattern of network FC, predominantly involving the default mode network (DMN), was observed in (hypo)manic patients when compared with HCs and bipolar patients in other mood states. Longitudinal observation revealed an increase in several network FCs in patients during (hypo)manic episode. Both samples evidenced an increase in the FC between the DMN and ventral attention network, and between the DMN and limbic network (LN) related to (hypo)mania. The altered network connections were correlated with mania severity and positive affect. Bipolar depressive patients exhibited decreased FC within the LN compared with HCs. The exploratory analysis also revealed an increase in degree in (hypo)manic patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings identify a distributed pattern of large-scale network disturbances in the unique context of (hypo)mania and thus provide new evidence for our understanding of the neural mechanism of BD.

Benzoylurea (BU) insecticides have been widely used for pest control as third-generation insecticides. Considering that their residues in food may cause adverse effects on human health, the upper limits of BUs remaining in food have been set by the administration. Therefore, it is essential to develop a sensitive and efficient analytical method to determine the residues of BUs in food. Stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) is a novel sample preparation technique, and stainless steel wire (SSW) is an ideal substrate for an SBSE device. In this work, a novel SBSE device of SSW jacket-free stir bar with a dumbbell shape was designed and prepared. The conjugated microporous polymer CMP-F6, which possesses a porous structure, high hydrophobicity and rich fluorine-containing functional groups, was immobilized on the surface of SSW by the method of polyacrylonitrile glue adhesion. Compared with previous studies, which used SSW as a substrate, the method of etching partial SSW with hydrochloric acid, on the one hand, made the surface of SSW rough and easy to modify the extraction coating, and on the other hand, converted itself into a dumbbell-shaped structure, which is conducive to improving the extraction efficiency and stability of the SBSE device. The method of SBSE-HPLC-UV was established for determining five BUs. Owing to the hydrophobic interaction and F-F interaction between CMP-F6 and analytes, this method showed good extraction efficiency and had good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9945) and high sensitivity (LODs in the range of 0.1-0.2 ng mL-1). It was used for the analysis of benzoylurea in an apple juice sample, and the recoveries were 74.3-117.9%.

The gut microbial communities interact with the host immunity and physiological functions. In this study, we investigated the bacterial composition in Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp's gut and rearing water under different host (developmental stage: juvenile and adult; health status: healthy and diseased) and environmental factors (temperature 25 °C and 28 °C; and light intensity: low and high). The PCoA analysis showed that all water samples were clustered together in a quarter, whereas the gut samples spread among three quarters. In terms of functional bacteria, gut samples of adult shrimp, healthy adult shrimp, adult shrimp raised at 28 °C, and juvenile shrimp under high light intensity exhibited a higher abundance of Vibrionaceae compared to each other opposite group. Gut samples of juvenile shrimp, infected adult shrimp, juvenile shrimp with low light intensity, and adult shrimp with a water temperature of 25 °C showed a higher abundance of Pseudoaltromonadaceae bacteria compared to each other opposite group. Gut samples of juvenile shrimp, healthy adult shrimp, adult shrimp raised at a water temperature of 28 °C, and juvenile shrimp with high light intensity showed the higher abundance of Firmicutes/Bacteroidota ratio compared to each other opposite group. Our results showed that L. vannamei juveniles are more sensitive to bacterial infections; besides, water temperature of 28 °C and high light intensity groups were both important conditions improving the shrimp gut bacterial composition under industrial indoor farming systems. KEY POINTS: • Bacteria diversity was higher among shrimp intestinal microbiota compared to the rearing water. • Shrimp juveniles are more sensitive to bacterial infection compared to adults. • Water temperature of 28 °C and high light intensity are recommended conditions for white shrimp aquaculture.

PURPOSE: We have developed a novel technique for osteotomy/discectomy during en bloc resection of spine tumors named two-step osteotomy/discectomy through cannulated screw (TOCS). This study aims at describing the procedure of TOCS technique and assessing its efficiency and safety. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed fourteen patients who underwent en bloc resection for spine tumors using TOCS technique in our center between August 2018 and September 2022. The technique was based on a specially designed "slotted" cannulated screw which was a cannulated screw with a longitudinal slot to provide the accessibility of T-saw. During osteotomy/discectomy, the "slotted" cannulated screw was inserted obliquely along the plane between the dura and the posterior wall of spine in light of the planned osteotomy/discectomy plane under routine fluoroscopic imaging guidance. The T-saw was introduced through the screw, and the osteotomy/discectomy was performed sequentially in two steps under the guidance of the screw by turning the slot away and toward the dura. The intra-/perioperative complication, neurological function (determined by Frankel grading), surgical margin (determined by a pathologist using AJCC R system), follow-up details were documented. RESULTS: The mean duration of surgery was 599.3 (360-890) min with a mean volume of intra-operative hemorrhage of 2021.4 (800-5000) mL. The intra-/perioperative complications were found in four patients (28.6%). R0 and R1 resections were achieved in nine and five patients, respectively. There was no R2 resection. After a mean follow-up period of 30.6 (10-67) months, all patients were alive except one patient died ten months after surgery due to unrelated cause. No recurrence and implant failure were found. Thirteen patients (92.9%) exhibited completely normal neurological function same as their preoperative neurological status. CONCLUSION: Using TOCS technique can facilitate a precise, complete and safe osteotomy/discectomy procedure during en bloc resection for spine tumor without the aid of intra-operative navigation.

Grape white rot can cause considerable yield losses in viticulture areas worldwide and is principally caused by Coniella diplodiella. The fungus overwinters in berry mummies on the soil surface or on the trellis and produces pycnidia and conidia that serve as primary inoculum. However, little is known about the temporal dynamics and dispersal pattern of C. diplodiella conidia. In this study, we investigated the production and dispersal of C. diplodiella conidia from a primary inoculum source, namely, affected mummified berries that overwintered in two vineyards in northern Italy in 2021 and 2022. Conidia of C. diplodiella were repeatedly produced in berry mummies from the budburst of vines to harvesting, with approximately 50 and 75% of the total conidia in a season being produced before fruit set and véraison, respectively. The production dynamics of C. diplodiella conidia over time were described by a Weibull equation in which the thermal time is the independent variable, with a concordance correlation coefficient of ≥0.964. A rainfall cutoff of ≥0.2 mm provided an overall accuracy of ≥0.86 in predicting conidial dispersal through rain splashes from berry mummies on the soil surface, with the number of dispersed conidia increasing with the amount of rainfall. The dispersal of conidia from mummies on the trellis by washing with rain required at least 6.1 mm of rain. The proposed mathematical equations and rain cutoffs can be used to predict periods with a high dispersal risk of C. diplodiella.

BACKGROUND: Among Chinese medical students, medical statistics is often perceived as a formidable subject. While existing research has explored the attitudes of Chinese postgraduate medical students towards statistics and its impact on academic performance, there is a scarcity of studies examining the attitudes of Chinese medical undergraduates on this subject. This study endeavors to scrutinize the attitudes of Chinese medical undergraduates towards statistics, assessing their ramifications on learning achievements, and delving into the influence of demographic factors. METHODS: 1266 medical undergraduates participated in this study, completing a questionnaire that included SATS-36 and additional queries. Furthermore, an examination was administered at the end of the medical statistics course. The analysis encompassed the SATS score and exam scores, examining both the overall participant population and specific demographic subgroups. RESULTS: Undergraduate medical students generally exhibit a favorable disposition towards statistics concerning Affect, Cognitive Competence, and Value components, yet harbor less favorable sentiments regarding the Difficulty component of SATS-36, aligning with previous research findings. In comparison to their postgraduate counterparts, undergraduates display heightened enthusiasm for medical statistics. However, they demonstrate a lower cognitive capacity in statistics and tend to underestimate both the value and difficulty of learning statistics. Despite these disparities, undergraduate medical students express a genuine interest in statistics and exhibit a strong dedication to mastering the subject. It is noteworthy that students' attitudes toward statistics may be influenced by their major and gender. Additionally, there exists a statistically significant positive correlation between learning achievement and the Affect, Cognitive Competence, Value, Interest, and Effort components of the SATS-36, while a negative correlation is observed with the Difficulty component. CONCLUSION: Educators should carefully consider the influence of attitudes toward statistics, especially the variations observed among majors and genders when formulating strategies and curricula to enhance medical statistics education.

Trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) is a classical type of G-protein-coupled receptor, which is widely distributed in the brain of mammals, especially in the limbic system and the region rich in monoaminergic neurons, and it is a highly conserved TAAR subtype in all species. TAAR1 can specifically respond to endogenous trace amines in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues, and plays an important role in the pathophysiological mechanisms involving the dysregulation of monoamine system and glutamate system leading to mental disorders. In addition, TAAR1 modulator can act on inwardly rectifying potassium channels and regulate synaptic transmission and neuronal activity. According to the latest research findings, TAAR1 exerts a series of functions by regulating signal pathways and substrate phosphorylation, which is related to emotion, cognition, fear and addiction. Therefore, we conducted a detailed review of relevant studies on the TAAR1 signaling pathways, aiming at revealing the great potential of TAAR1 as a new target for drug treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.

Nuclear receptor coactivator 6 (NCOA6), a coactivator of numerous nuclear receptors and transcription factors, regulates multiple critical cellular functions. Nuclear receptor coactivator 6 is dysregulated in various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, its role remains largely unknown. Here we reported that NCOA6 was highly expressed in HCC compared to the adjacent liver tissue, and NCOA6 overexpression was significantly correlated with poor HCC prognosis. Experiments revealed that the knockdown of NCOA6 damaged the proliferation, migration, and invasion of HCC cells. Multiomics and immune infiltration analyses showed a close relationship between NCOA6 expression, multiple cancer-related malignant pathways, and the immunosuppressive microenvironment. Finally, we established an effective NCOA6-related microRNA (miRNA) signature to distinguish HCC from hepatitis\liver cirrhosis patients. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to provide a comprehensive analysis of NCOA6 expression in HCC. We found that NCOA6 plays an important role in HCC development and has a potential mechanism of action. Establishing an NCOA6-related miRNA signature will help develop novel diagnostic strategies for HCC patients.

OBJECTIVE: Bulimia nervosa (BN) is an eating disorder associated with the dysfunction of intrinsic brain networks. However, whether the network disruptions in BN patients manifest as dysconnectivity or imbalances of network modular segregation remains unclear. METHOD: We collected data from 41 women with BN and 41 matched healthy control (HC) women. We performed graph theory analysis based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI) data; then, we computed the participation coefficient (PC) among brain modules to characterize the modular segregation for the BN and HC groups. The number of intra- and inter-modular connections was calculated to explain the PC changes. Additionally, we examined the potential associations of the measures mentioned above with clinical variables within the BN group. RESULTS: Compared with the HC group, the BN group showed significantly decreased PC in the fronto-parietal network (FPN), cingulo-opercular network (CON), and cerebellum (Cere). Additionally, the number of intra-modular connections of the default mode network (DMN) and the number of the inter-modular connections between the DMN and CON, FPN and Cere, and CON and Cere in the BN group were lower than those in the HC group. The nodal level analysis showed that the BN group had a decreased PC of the anterior prefrontal cortex (aPFC), dorsal frontal cortex (dFC), inferior parietal lobule (IPL), thalamus, and angular gyrus. Further, these metrics were significantly correlated with clinical variables in the BN group. DISCUSSION: These findings may provide novel insights to capture atypical topologies associated with pathophysiology mechanisms and clinical symptoms underlying BN.

BACKGROUND: The neural correlate of cognitive deficits in bipolar disorder (BD) is an issue that warrants further investigation. However, relatively few studies have examined the intrinsic functional connectivity (FC) underlying cognitive deficits involving sustained attention and executive function at both the region and network levels, as well as the different relationships between connectivity patterns and cognitive performance, in BD patients and healthy controls (HCs). METHODS: Patients with BD (n = 59) and HCs (n = 52) underwent structural and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging and completed the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), the continuous performance test and a clinical assessment. A seed-based approach was used to evaluate the intrinsic FC alterations in three core neurocognitive networks (the default mode network [DMN], the central executive network [CEN] and the salience network [SN]). Finally, we examined the relationship between FC and cognitive performance by using linear regression analyses. RESULTS: Decreased FC was observed within the DMN, in the DMN-SN and DMN-CEN and increased FC was observed in the SN-CEN in BD. The alteration direction of regional FC was consistent with that of FC at the brain network level. Decreased FC between the left posterior cingulate cortex and right anterior cingulate cortex was associated with longer WCST completion time in BD patients (but not in HCs). CONCLUSIONS: These findings emphasize the dominant role of the DMN in the psychopathology of BD and provide evidence that cognitive deficits in BD may be associated with aberrant FC between the anterior and posterior DMN.

Treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is a challenge because it still leads to unsatisfactory clinical prognosis. This is due to the toxicity and poor targeting of chemotherapeutic agents, as well as metastasis of the tumor. In this study, we designed a targeted liposome with nanostructures to overcome these problems. In the liposomes, epirubicin and curcumin were encapsulated to achieve their synergistic antitumor efficacy, while Epi-1 was modified on the liposomal surface to target epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM). Epi-1, a macrocyclic peptide, exhibits active targeting for enhanced cellular uptake and potent cytotoxicity against tumor cells. The encapsulation of epirubicin and curcumin synergistically inhibited the formation of neovascularization and vasculogenic mimicry (VM) channels, thereby suppressing tumor metastasis on SKOV3 cells. The dual drug loaded Epi-1-liposomes also induced apoptosis and downregulated metastasis-related proteins for effective antitumor in vitro. In vivo studies showed that dual drug loaded Epi-1-liposomes prolonged circulation time in the blood and increased the selective accumulation of drug at the tumor site. H&E staining and immunohistochemistry with Ki-67 also showed that targeted liposomes elevated antitumor activity. Also, targeted liposomes downregulated angiogenesis-related proteins to inhibit angiogenesis and thus tumor metastasis. In conclusion, the production of dual drug loaded Epi-1-liposomes is an effective strategy for the treatment of EOC.

Grapevine trunk diseases (GTDs) are serious threats worldwide and are difficult to control, in part because the environmental requirements for epidemiological processes of the causal fungi are poorly understood. Therefore, we investigated the effects of temperature and moisture duration on spore germination of four fungi associated with two GTDs (esca complex and Eutypa dieback): Phaeomoniella chlamydospora, Phaeoacremonium minimum, Cadophora luteo-olivacea, and Eutypa lata. Conidia of Phaeomoniella chlamydospora, Phaeoacremonium minimum, and C. luteo-olivacea were similar: conidia of these fungi germinated profusely (>90%) between 20 and 30°C; Phaeomoniella chlamydospora and Phaeoacremonium minimum tended to germinate at higher temperatures (up to 40°C for P. minimum), and C. luteo-olivacea at lower temperatures (as low as 5°C). E. lata ascospores germinated between 10 and 30°C. The required duration of moist periods for germination was shortest for C. luteo-olivacea (about 6 h), followed by P. minimum and E. lata (about 12 h) and Phaeomoniella chlamydospora (about 24 h). Further research on the environmental requirements of GTD fungi may increase our ability to predict infection periods and, thereby, improve disease control.

White rot, caused by the fungus Coniella diplodiella, can severely reduce grapevine yields worldwide. Currently, white rot control mainly relies on fungicides applied on a calendar basis or following hailstorms that favor disease outbreak; however, the control achieved with this strategy is often inconsistent or otherwise unsatisfactory. Realizing more rational control requires an improved understanding of white rot epidemiology. Toward this end, we conducted experiments with grapevine berries of two Vitis vinifera cultivars (either injured or not before artificial inoculation with a conidia suspension of C. diplodiella) to determine the effect of temperature on the length of latency (i.e., the time between infection and onset of mature pycnidia on berries) and the production of pycnidia and conidia. Sporulation occurred between 10°C and 35°C, with the optimum detected at 20°C. The latency period was shorter at 25-35°C than at lower temperatures; the shortest latency period was 120 h at 30°C on injured berries. Affected berries produced abundant conidia at 15-30℃ (the optimum was 20℃) for more than two months following inoculation. Mathematical equations were developed that fit the data, with strong associations with temperature for latency period (R2 = 0.831) and for the production dynamics of secondary conidia (R2 = 0.918). These equations may contribute to the development of a risk algorithm to predict infection periods, which can inform risk-based rather than calendar-based disease control strategies.

Grapevine trunk diseases (GTDs) are serious threats in all viticultural areas of the world, and their management is always complex and usually inadequate. Fragmented and inconsistent information on the epidemiology and environmental requirements of the causal fungi is among the reasons for poor disease control. Therefore, we conducted a quantitative analysis of literature data to determine the effects of temperature on mycelial growth and the effects of temperature and moisture duration on spore germination. Using the collected information, we then developed mathematical equations describing the response of mycelial growth to temperature, and the response of spore germination to temperature and moisture for the different species and disease syndromes. We considered 27 articles (selected from a total of 207 articles found through a systematic literature search) and 116 cases; these involved 43 fungal species belonging to three disease syndromes. The mycelial growth of the fungi causing Botryosphaeria dieback (BD) and the esca complex (EC) responded similarly to temperature, and preferred higher temperatures than those causing Eutypa dieback (ED) (with optimal temperature of 25.3, 26.5, and 23.3°C, respectively). At any temperature, the minimal duration of the moist period required for 50% spore germination was shorter for BD (3.0 h) than for EC (17.2 h) or ED (15.5 h). Mathematical equations were developed accounting for temperature-moisture relationships of GTD fungi, which showed concordance correlation coefficients ≥0.888; such equations should be useful for reducing the risk of infection.

Grapevine trunk diseases (GTDs) are among the most devastating grapevine diseases globally. GTDs are caused by multiple fungi from various taxa, which release spores into the vineyard and infect wood tissue, mainly through wounds caused by viticultural operations. The timing of operations to avoid infection is critical concerning the periodicity of GTD spores in vineyards, and many studies have been conducted in different grape-growing areas worldwide. However, these studies provide conflicting and fragmented information. To synthesize current knowledge, we performed a systematic literature review, extracted quantitative data from published papers, and used these data to identify trends and knowledge gaps to be addressed in future studies. Our database included 26 papers covering 247 studies and 3,529 spore sampling records concerning a total of 29 fungal taxa responsible for Botryosphaeria dieback (BD), Esca complex (EC), and Eutypa dieback (ED). We found a clear seasonality in the presence and abundance of BD spores, with a peak from fall to spring, more in the northern than in the southern hemisphere, but not for EC and ED. Spores of these fungi were present throughout the growing season in both hemispheres, possibly due to higher variability in spore types, sporulation conditions, and spore release mechanisms in EC and ED fungi compared to BD. Our analysis has limitations due to knowledge gaps and data availability for some fungi (e.g., Basidiomycetes, causing EC). These limitations are discussed to facilitate further research.

Grapevine trunk diseases are caused by a complex of fungi that belong to different taxa, which produce different spore types and have different spore dispersal mechanisms. It is commonly accepted that rainfall plays a key role in spore dispersal, but there is conflicting information in the literature on the relationship between rain and spore trapping in aerobiology studies. We conducted a systematic literature review, extracted quantitative data from published papers, and used the pooled data for Bayesian analysis of the effect of rain on spore trapping. We selected 17 papers covering 95 studies and 8,778 trapping periods, concerning a total of 26 fungal taxa causing Botryosphaeria dieback (BD), Esca complex (EC), and Eutypa dieback (ED). Results confirmed the role of rain in the spore dispersal of these fungi, but revealed differences among the different fungi. Rain was a good predictor of spore trapping for ED (AUROC = 0.820) and BD (0.766) but not for the Ascomycetes involved in EC (0.569) and not for the only Basidiomycetes, Fomitiporella viticola, studied as for spore discharge (AUROC not significant). Prediction of spore trapping was more accurate for negative than for positive prognosis; a rain cutoff of ≥0.2 mm provided an overall accuracy ≥0.61 for correct prognoses. Spores trapped in rainless periods accounted for only <10% of the total spores. Our analysis had some drawbacks, which were mainly caused by knowledge gaps and limited data availability; these drawbacks are discussed to facilitate further research.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have evolved to be a class of rapidly advancing chemical entities in the biomedical field. Nevertheless, potential side effects and safety concerns severely limit their clinical translation. After administration, 2D materials cross multiple biological barriers and are distributed throughout the body. Only the portion that accumulates at the diseased sites exerts a therapeutic effect, whereas those distributed elsewhere may cause damage to healthy tissues and interference to normal physiological function of various organs. To achieve maximum therapeutic efficacy and minimum adverse effects simultaneously, the delivery of 2D materials must be targeted at diseased sites to reach therapeutic concentrations, and the materials must possess sufficient degradation and clearance rates to avoid long-term toxicity. Therefore, it is essential to understand the biodistribution and destiny of 2D materials in vivo. In this review, first, we provide a comprehensive picture of the strategies that are currently adopted for regulating the in vivo fate of 2D materials, including modulations of their size, surface properties, composition, and external stimuli. Second, we systematically review the biodistribution, degradation, and metabolism of several newly emerged 2D materials. Finally, we also discuss the development opportunities of 2D materials in the biomedical field and the challenges to be addressed.

Weld site inspection is a research area of interest in the manufacturing industry. In this study, a digital twin system for welding robots to examine various weld flaws that might happen during welding using the acoustics of the weld site is presented. Additionally, a wavelet filtering technique is implemented to remove the acoustic signal originating from machine noise. Then, an SeCNN-LSTM model is applied to recognize and categorize weld acoustic signals according to the traits of strong acoustic signal time sequences. The model verification accuracy was found to be 91%. In addition, using numerous indicators, the model was compared with seven other models, namely, CNN-SVM, CNN-LSTM, CNN-GRU, BiLSTM, GRU, CNN-BiLSTM, and LSTM. A deep learning model, and acoustic signal filtering and preprocessing techniques are integrated into the proposed digital twin system. The goal of this work was to propose a systematic on-site weld flaw detection approach encompassing data processing, system modeling, and identification methods. In addition, our proposed method could serve as a resource for pertinent research.

Trace amines are endogenous molecules distributed in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues that resemble common biogenic amines in terms of subcellular localization, chemical structure, and metabolism. Trace amine-associated receptor (TAAR) is a kind of evolutionarily conserved G-protein-coupled receptors in vertebrates, in which TAAR1 is a functional regulator of monoamine transmitters such as dopamine and serotonin. TAAR1 is widely considered as a potential therapeutic target for schizophrenia, depression and drug addiction. Moreover, TAAR1 is also expressed in peripheral tissues. The homeostasis imbalance of trace aminergic system can induce over-activation of peripheral immune system and central immune inflammatory response. TAAR1 modulators are becoming potential emerging drugs for the treatment of immune-related illnesses, because they may play a major role in the activation or modulation of immune response.
