RESUMEN

Potassium-sulfur (K-S) batteries are severely limited by the sluggish kinetics of the solid-phase conversion of K2S3/K2S2 to K2S, the rate-determining and performance-governing step, which urgently requires a cathode with facilitated sulfur accommodation and improved catalytic efficiency. To this end, we leverage the orbital-coupling approach and herein report a strong d-π coupling catalytic configuration of single-atom Co anchored between two alkynyls of graphdiyne (Co-GDY). The d-π orbital coupling of the Co-C4 moiety fully redistributes electrons two-dimensionally across the GDY, and as a result, drastically accelerates the solid-phase K2S3/K2S2 to K2S conversion and enhances the adsorption of sulfur species. Applied as the cathode, the S/Co-GDY delivered a record-high rate performance of 496.0 mAh g-1 at 5 A g-1 in K-S batteries. In situ and ex situ characterizations coupling density functional theory (DFT) calculations rationalize how the strong d-π orbital coupling of Co-C4 configuration promotes the reversible solid-state transformation kinetics of potassium polysulfide for high-performance K-S batteries.

The fruits of Solanum torvum Swartz, a wild relative of eggplant, are consumed as a wild vegetable in tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and South America. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed to have anti-inflammatory and sedative effects. In the Philippines, water decoction is used to treat hyperactivity disorder. Twenty-two steroidal saponins were isolated and purified from the fruits grown in Yunnan, China, including six new compounds: torvosides U-Z (1-6). During drying and cooking, the saponins may undergo transformation, resulting in small amounts of sapogenins. These transformations can include dehydration of hydroxyl groups at position C22, formation of double bonds at position 20, 22 or 22, 23, and even formation of peroxide products. Saponin compounds torvoside X (4), torvoside Y (5), torvoside A (7), and (25S)-3-oxo-5α-spirostan-6α-yl-O-ß-d-xylopyranoside (20), which are glycosylated at C-6, showed certain anti-epileptic activity in a pentylenetetrazole-induced zebrafish seizure model. No antiproliferative activity was detected when tested on the cancer cell line HepG2, and no hepatotoxic effect was noted on normal liver cell line LO2.

Long-term dance training offers numerous benefits, including improvements in physical health, posture, body coordination, and mental health and well-being. Since dance is an art form of body-to-body communication, professional dancers may share feelings and thoughts on dance with their partners, owing to their shared training experiences. Considering this perspective, one may expect that professional dancers would demonstrate pronounced neural similarities when viewing dancing videos, which could be associated with their training duration. To test these hypotheses, we collected functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data while presenting ballroom dancing and neutral video clips with long durations (∼100 s each) to 41 professional ballroom dancers (19 pairs of dance partners) and 39 age- and sex-matched nondancers. Our findings revealed that dancers exhibited broader and stronger neural similarities across the whole brain when watching dancing video clips, as compared to the control group. These increased neural similarities could be interpreted in at least two distinct ways. First, neural similarities in certain brain regions within the motor control circuit (i.e., frontal cortical-basal ganglia-thalamic circuit) were significantly correlated with dance-related information (e.g., dance partners' cooperation duration), which reinforced the impact of long-term dance training on neural synchronization. Second, neural similarities in other brain regions (e.g., memory-related brain regions) were significantly correlated with subjects' impression of the viewed videos (i.e., whether they have watched before, familiarity, and liking), which may not necessarily be directly linked to long-term dance training. Altogether, our study provided solid evidence for synchronized neural mechanisms in professional dancers due to long-term dance training.

Realizing efficient hydrogenation of N2 molecules in the electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) is crucial in achieving high activity at a low potential because it theoretically requires a higher equilibrium potential than other steps. Analogous to metal hydride complexes for N2 reduction, achieving this step by chemical hydrogenation can weaken the potential dependence of the initial hydrogenation process. However, this strategy is rarely reported in the electrocatalytic NRR, and the catalytic mechanism remains ambiguous and lacks experimental evidence. Here, we show a highly efficient electrocatalyst (ruthenium single atoms anchored on graphdiyne/graphene sandwich structures) with a hydrogen radical-transferring mechanism, in which graphdiyne (GDY) generates hydrogen radicals (H•), which can effectively activate N2 to generate NNH radicals (•NNH). A dual-active site is constructed to suppress competing hydrogen evolution, where hydrogen preferentially adsorbs on GDY and Ru single atoms serve as the adsorption site of •NNH to promote further hydrogenation of NH3 synthesis. As a result, high activity and selectivity are obtained simultaneously at -0.1 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode. Our findings illustrate a novel hydrogen transfer mechanism that can greatly reduce the potential and maintain the high activity and selectivity in NRR and provide powerful guidelines for the design concept of electrocatalysts.

BACKGROUND: Whether there are many risk factors for recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) after ablation is unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between insulin resistance (IR) and AF recurrence in patients without diabetes who underwent catheter ablation. METHODS: This retrospective study included patients who underwent AF ablation between 2018 and 2019 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated, and a value of ≥2.69 was defined as IR. The patients were divided into two groups (group 1 HOMA-IR < 2.69, n = 163; group 2 HOMA-IR ≥ 2.69, n = 69). AF recurrence was defined as the occurrence of atrial arrhythmias of more than 30 s after the first 3 months. Univariate and multivariable Cox regression models were used to analyse the risk of AF recurrence. RESULTS: Overall, 232 patients were enrolled (mean age, 59.9 ± 10.2 years old; female, 37.5%; paroxysmal AF, 71.6%). We found that dyslipidaemia, antiarrhythmic drug use, fasting blood glucose and fasting insulin were significantly higher in the IR group (P < 0.05). During the follow-up 1 year after ablation, 62 (26.7%) patients experienced AF recurrence. After adjusting for traditional risk factors, multivariable analysis showed that the HOMA-IR value (HR 1.259, 95% CI 1.086-1.460, P = 0.002) and left atrial diameter (LAD; HR 1.043, 95% CI 1.005-1.083, P = 0.026) were independently associated with AF recurrence. CONCLUSIONS: The present results provide evidence that IR patients are more likely to experience AF recurrence. Improving IR status may be a potential target for reducing the postoperative recurrence rate.

BACKGROUND: Portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) secondary to primary liver carcinoma (PLC) is commonly associated with poor prognosis and poses great challenge. This study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of percutaneous endovascular radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treatment of PVTT. METHODS: Consecutive patients who were performed endovascular RFA because of PVTT in single-institution in recent 8 years were retrospectively reviewed, compared with patients who underwent only sequential transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) during the contemporary period. Patency of portal vein, complications, and overall survival (OS) were investigated. RESULTS: One hundred and 20 patients who underwent endovascular RFA and 96 patients who underwent only sequential TACE were included. No severe complications happened in both groups. Except the higher rates of severe fever and moderate pain in the study group, no difference was found in the incidence of side effects and complications. The effective rate in the study group was (78.3%, 94/120) significantly higher than the comparison group (35.4%, 34/96). The median survival time and 1-3 years cumulative survival rates in the study group were 15.7 months and 42.5%, 21.7%, 2.5%, respectively, and 11.3 months, 21.9%, 9.4%, 0 correspondingly in the comparison group, without significant difference. Type of PVTT and Child-Pugh classification of liver function were independent risk factors, and OS was significantly improved by endovascular RFA and subsequent therapy. CONCLUSION: Endovascular RFA is technically safe and feasible for unresectable PLC and PVTT to improve the prognosis and quality of life.

The development of proton conductors capable of working at above 100 °C is of great significance for proton exchange membrane electrolysis cells (PEMECs) and proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) but remains to be an enormous challenge to date. In this work, we demonstrate for the first time that the N-doped porous carbon derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with great superiority can be exploited for high-performing proton conductors at above 100 °C. Through the pyrolysis of ZIF-8, the N-doped porous carbon (ZIF-8-C) featuring high chemical resistance to Fenton's reagent was readily prepared and then served as a robust host to accommodate H3PO4 molecules for proton transport. Upon impregnation with H3PO4, the resulting PA@ZIF-8-C exhibits low water swelling and high proton conduction of over 10-2 S cm-1 at a temperature above 100 °C, which is superior to many reported proton conductors. This work provides a new approach for the design of high-performing proton conductors at above 100 °C.

BACKGROUND: Although self-expandable mental stents (SEMS) placement is the standard care for relieving obstructive jaundice caused by unresectable malignant biliary stricture, how to maintain stent potency remains an intractable problem. This study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endobiliary radiofrequency ablation (RFA) through percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC) pathway in treating such patients. METHODS: Consecutive patients who were performed endobiliary RFA as well as SEMS placement because of unresectable malignant obstructive jaundice in single institution in recent 8 years were retrospectively reviewed. As comparison, patients who underwent only percutaneous SEMS placement for unresectable malignant biliary stricture during the contemporary period were reviewed. Stent patency, complications, complications, and overall survival (OS) were investigated and analyzed. RESULTS: One hundred and fifty patients who underwent endobiliary RFA and 127 patients who underwent only stent placement were included in this study. In the study group of endobiliary RFA, 87 patients (58.0%) underwent ablation for 1 time, 49 (32.7%) for 2 times, and 14 (9.3%) for 3 times. Complications related to RFA as well as SEMS placement happened in 113 patients (75.3%), without severe complications that needed emergent surgery or interventional therapy. The median duration of stent patency after ablation was 11.2 month, and the median survival time was 12.3 month. As comparison, difference was found in the number of interventional procedures and stents placed, duration of initial stent patency, and the incidence of moderate bleeding and pain. In the study group, only the type of tumor that caused biliary obstruction (intrahepatic carcinoma vs. extrahepatic carcinoma) was a poor independent factor (P = 0.035) for recurrent biliary obstruction. Repeated interventional therapy and adoption of subsequent therapy were only independent factors for OS. CONCLUSIONS: Endobiliary RFA and SEMS placement is technically safe and feasible for unresectable malignant obstructive jaundice to improve the quality of life and prolong survival.

We propose a method for accurately calibrating a telecentric structured light system consisting of a camera attached to a bilateral telecentric lens and a pin-hole projector. The proposed method can be split into two parts: axial calibration and transverse calibration. The first part is used for building the relationship between phase and depth by means of a planar plate with ring markers on its surface at several different positions in the measuring volume. The second part is used for establishing the relationship between transverse coordinates and pixel positions with the depth offered by a translation stage and the extracted ring centers. Compared with existing methods that require projector calibration, the proposed method can avoid a propagation of the correspondence error between the camera imaging plane and projector imaging plane, thus increasing calibration accuracy. The calibrated telecentric structured light system is further used for three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions of a planar, a ruled surface, and complex surfaces. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system calibration method can be used for accurate 3D measurement.

Metabolic adaptations can help cancer cells to escape from chemotherapeutics, mainly involving autophagy and ATP production. Herein, we report a new rhein-based cyclometalated IrIII complex, Ir-Rhein, that can accurately target mitochondria and effectively inhibit metabolic adaptations. The complex Ir-Rhein induces severe mitochondrial damage and initiates mitophagy to reduce the number of mitochondria and subsequently inhibit both mitochondrial and glycolytic bioenergetics, which eventually leads to ATP starvation death. Moreover, Ir-Rhein can overcome cisplatin resistance. Co-incubation experiment, 3D tumor spheroids experiment and transcriptome analysis reveal that Ir-Rhein shows promising antiproliferation performance for cisplatin-resistant cancer cells with the regulation of platinum resistance-related transporters. To our knowledge, this is a new strategy to overcome metallodrug resistance with a mitochondria-relevant treatment.

Electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2R) is a sustainable way of producing carbon-neutral fuels, yet the efficiency is limited by its sluggish kinetics and complex reaction pathways. Developing active, selective, and stable CO2R electrocatalysts is challenging and entails intelligent material structure design and tailoring. Here we show a graphdiyne/graphene (GDY/G) heterostructure as a 2D conductive scaffold to anchor monodispersed cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) and reduce CO2 with an appreciable activity, selectivity, and durability. Advanced characterizations, e.g., synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculation disclose that the strong electronic coupling between GDY and CoPc, together with the high surface area, abundant reactive centers, and electron conductivity provided by graphene, synergistically contribute to this distinguished electrocatalytic performance. Electrochemical measurements revealed a high FECO of 96% at a partial current density of 12 mA cm-2 in a H-cell and an FECO of 97% at 100 mA cm-2 in a liquid flow cell, along with a durability over 24 h. The per-site turnover frequency of CoPc reaches 37 s-1 at -1.0 V vs RHE, outperforming most of the reported phthalocyanine- and porphyrin-based electrocatalysts. The usage of the GDY/G heterostructure as a scaffold can be further extended to other organometallic complexes beyond CoPc. Our findings lend credence to the prospect of the GDY/G hybrid contributing to the design of single-molecule dispersed CO2R catalysts for sustainable energy conversion.

Spinal cord magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an advanced imaging technique (mainly in the cervical cord) and has been gradually used in basic scientific research such as human sensation and motor function, and clinical applications such as spinal cord injury, myelitis, and chronic pain, etc. The development of spinal cord MRI is still at the early stage compared with brain MRI and limited by the current MRI technology and data analysis methods. This review focuses on the methods and applications of spinal cord MRI technology in the basic research fields of cognitive neuroscience and clinical application. Firstly, we will introduce the imaging principle, methods, measurement standards, and applications of most commonly used multimodal spinal cord MRI techniques, including quantitative spinal cord MRI (such as structural, diffusion, spectroscopy, myelin water, magnetization transfer, and chemical exchange saturation transfer imaging, etc.) and spinal functional MRI (fMRI). Secondly, we will discuss the technical challenges and possible solutions of spinal cord MRI data processing from the three dimensions of denoising, data processing pipeline optimization, and repeatability and reliability. Finally, we will discuss the application status and development prospects of spinal cord MRI.

Nicotine is the main addictive component in cigarettes that motivates dependence on tobacco use for smokers and makes it difficult to quit through regulating a variety of neurotransmitter release and receptor activations in the brain. Even though nicotine has an analgesic effect, clinical studies demonstrated that nicotine abstinence reduces pain threshold and increases pain sensitivity in smoking individuals. The demand for opioid analgesics in nicotine abstinent patients undergoing surgery has greatly increased, which results in many side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, and respiratory depression, etc. In addition, these side effects would hinder patients' physical and psychological recovery. Therefore, identifying the neural mechanism of the increase of pain sensitivity induced by nicotine abstinence and deriving a way to cope with the increased demand for postoperative analgesics would have enormous basic and clinical implications. In this review, we first discussed different experimental pain stimuli (e.g., cold, heat, and mechanical pain)-induced pain sensitivity changes after a period of nicotine dependence/abstinence from both animal and human studies. Then, we summarized the effects of the brain neurotransmitter release (e.g., serotonin, norepinephrine, endogenous opioids, dopamine, and γ-aminobutyric acid) and their corresponding receptor activation changes after nicotine abstinence on pain sensitivity. Finally, we discussed the limits in recent studies. We proposed that more attention should be paid to human studies, especially studies among chronic pain patients, and functional magnetic resonance imaging might be a useful tool to reveal the mechanisms of abstinence-induced pain sensitivity changes. Besides, considering the influence of duration of nicotine dependence/abstinence and gender on pain sensitivity, we proposed that the effects of nicotine abstinence and individual differences (e.g., duration of abstinence from smoking, chronic/acute abstinence, and gender) on abstinence-induced pain sensitivity should be fully considered in formulating pain treatment protocols. In summary, this paper could deepen our understanding of nicotine abstinence-induced pain sensitivity changes and its underlying neural mechanism, and could also provide effective scientific theories to guide clinical pain diagnosis and treatment, which has important clinical significance.

Objective To investigate the oral health status and awareness of urban children in Lhasa,aiming to provide a data basis for the prevention and treatment of children's caries and the promotion of oral health education. Methods A total of 504 Tibetan students were selected by cluster sampling from 2 primary schools in Chengguan District of Lhasa.All the participants were required to take oral health examination and complete a questionnaire about oral health awareness and behavior. Results The caries prevalence rate and mean decayed-missing-filled tooth(DMFT)of permanent teeth were 75.00% and 2.18±1.91,respectively.The rates of pit and fissure sealant and filling of permanent teeth were 3.77% and 6.81%,respectively.The caries prevalence rate of first permanent molars was 47.62%.The mean DMFT of permanent teeth and caries prevalence rate of first permanent molar were significantly higher in female group(P=0.001 and P=0.007,respectively).The prevalence rate of dental fluorosis was 61.51%,and the detection rate of dental calculus was 71.83%.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that prevalence of caries was influenced by many independent factors including gender,oral health awareness,intention of dental intervention,and dental experience. Conclusion High caries prevalence rate,low filling rate,and poor oral hygiene and health awareness were found among the primary school students in Lhasa,which require continuous dentistry investment and oral health education for the local students and their parents.

Lanthanide (such as Tb and Eu) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely used in fluorescent probes because of their multiple coordination modes and brilliant fluorescence characteristic. Many lanthanide MOFs were applied in detecting metal ions, inorganic anions, and small molecules. However, it's rarely reported that Ln-MOF was devoted to detecting malachite green (MG) and uric acid (UA). We prepared a europium-based metal-organic framework (Eu-TDA) (TDA = 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid group). Luminescence studies demonstrated that Eu-TDA can rapidly detect MG and UA with excellent selectivity and sensitivity, where individual quenching efficiency Ksv (MG: 5.8 × 105 M-1; UA: 4.15 × 104 M-1) and detection limit (MG: 0.0221 µM; UA: 0.689 µM) were regarded as the excellent MOF sensors for detecting MG and UA. The quenching of Eu-TDA's fluorescence emission by MG and UA was likely due to the spectral overlap, energy transfer, and competition. Among 11 metal cations and 14 anions, Eu-TDA can quickly and effectively recognize MG and UA with highly selective and sensitive properties. Our method possesses potential application in detecting UA in human blood and MG in the fishpond.

BACKGROUND: Voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) are involved in several cellular processes related to cancer cell growth and metastasis, including adhesion, proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion. We here in investigated the effects of S0154 and S0161, two novel synthetic sodium channel blockers (SCBs), on human prostate cancer cells (PC3, DU145, and LnCaP) and a prostate cancer xenograft model. METHODS: The MTT assay was used to assess the anticancer effects of SCBs in PC3, DU145, and LnCaP cells. Sodium indicator and glucose uptake assays were used to determine the effects of S0154 and S0161 in PC3 cells. The impact of these SCBs on the proliferation, cell cycle, apoptosis, migration, and invasion of PC3 cells were determined using a CFDA-SE cell proliferation assay, cell cycle assay, annexin V-FITC apoptosis assay, transwell cell invasion assay, and wound-healing assay, respectively. The protein expression levels of Nav1.6, Nav1.7, CDK1, cyclin B1, MMP2, MMP9 in PC3 cells were analysis by Western blotting. The in vivo anticancer activity was evaluated using a PC3 xenograft model in nude mice. RESULTS: S0154 and S0161 both showed anticancer and anti-metastatic effects against prostate cancer cells and significantly inhibited cell viability, with IC50 values in the range of 10.51-26.60 µmol/L (S0154) and 5.07-11.92 µmol/L (S0161). Both compounds also increased the intracellular level of sodium, inhibited the protein expression of two α subunits of VGSCs (Nav1.6 and Nav1.7), and caused G2/M phase cell cycle arrest, with no or minor effects on cell apoptosis. Concentrations of 5 and 10 µmol/L of S0154 and S0161 significantly decreased the glucose uptake of PC3 cells. The compounds also inhibited the proliferation of PC3 cells and decreased their invasion in transwell assays. Furthermore, S0161 exerted antitumor activity in an in vivo PC3 xenograft model in nude mice, inhibiting the growth of the tumors by about 51% compared to the control group. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that S0154 and S0161 have anticancer and anti-metastasis effects in prostate cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo, supporting their further development as potential therapeutic agents for prostate cancer.

AIM: Diabetic nephropathy is one of the major complications of diabetes and the major cause of end-stage renal disease. In this study we investigated the insulin deficiency (ID) induced changes in renal mesangial cells (MCs) and in the kidney of STZ-induced diabetic rats. METHODS: Cultured rat renal MCs were incubated in ID media. Cell proliferation was analyzed using BrdU incorporation assay. The expression of insulin receptor (IR), insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R), phosphorylated IGF-1R, fibronectin, and collagen IV was determined with Western blot analysis. STZ-induced diabetic rats were treated with an IGF-1R antagonist picropodophyllin (PPP, 20 mg·kg(-1)·d(-1), po) for 8 weeks. After the rats were euthanized, plasma and kidneys were collected. IGF-1 levels in renal cortex were measured with RT-PCR or ELISA. The morphological changes in the kidneys were also examined. RESULTS: Incubation in ID media significantly increased cell proliferation, the synthesis of fibronectin and collagen IV, and the expression of IGF-1 and IGF-1R and phosphorylated IGF-1R in renal MCs. Pretreatment of the cells with PPP (50 nmol/L) blocked ID-induced increases in cell proliferation and the synthesis of fibronectin and collagen IV; knockdown of IGF-1R showed a similar effect as PPP did. In contrast, treatment of the cells with IGF-1 (50 ng/mL) exacerbated ID-induced increases in cell proliferation. In the kidneys of diabetic rats, the expression of IGF-1, IGF-1R and phosphorylated IGF-1R were significantly elevated. Treatment of diabetic rats with PPP did not lower the blood glucose levels, but significantly suppressed the expression of TGF-ß, fibronectin and collagen IV in the kidneys, the plasma levels of urinary nitrogen and creatinine, and the urinary protein excretion. CONCLUSION: Insulin deficiency increases the expression of IGF-1 and IGF-1R in renal MCs and the kidney of diabetic rats, which contributes to the development of diabetic nephropathy.

OBJECTIVE: To observe monocyte (Mo) development in wild type C57BL/6 mice and apoE gene knockout (apoE(-/-)) mice, and to evaluate the immuno-regulatory effect of Huanglian Jiedu Decoction (HJD) on peripheral Mo development in apoE(-/-) mice. METHODS: Four, 8, 12, and 16 weeks old female C57BL/6 mice were set up as control groups of different ages, while 4, 8, 12, and 16 weeks old female apoE(-/-) mice were set up as hyperlipidemia groups of different ages. Four-week old female C57BL/6 mice were recruited as a blank group. Four-week old female apoE(-/-) mice were randomly divided into the control group, the Western medicine group, and the Chinese medicine group by paired comparison, 5 in each group. Equivalent clinical dose was administered to mice according to body weight. Mice in the Western medicine group were administered with Atrovastatin at the daily dose of 10 mg/kg by gastrogavage, while those in the Chinese medicine group were administered with HJD at the daily dose of 5 g/kg by gastrogavage. Body weight was detected each week. After 4 weeks blood lipids levels (such as TG, TC, LDL-C, and HDL-C), and the proportions of Mo and Ly6c(hi) were detected. RESULTS: Compared with 4-week-old homogenic mice, the proportion of Mo decreased in 16-week-old C57BL/6 mice (P < 0.05). Levels of TC and TG, and the proportion of Ly6c(hi) subtype increased, but the proportion of Mo de- creased in 8-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P <0. 05). Levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C increased in 12-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P < 0.05). Levels of TC, TG, LDL-C, and HDL-C increased in 16-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Compared with 8-week-old homogenic mice, the proportion of Mo decreased in 16-week-old C57BL/6 mice (P < 0.05); levels of TC and LDL-C increased in 12-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P < 0.05); levels of TC and HDL-C increased in 16-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Compared with C57BL/6 mice of the same age, TC and TG increased, HDL-C decreased (P < 0.01) in 4-and 8-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P < 0.01); levels of TC, TG, LDL-C increased, and HDL-C level decreased in 12- and 16-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P < 0.05, P < 0.01); the proportion of Mo increased in 4-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P < 0.05); proportions of Mo and Ly6c(hi) increased in 8-week-old apoE(-/-) mice (P < 0.05). Compared with the blank control group, levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C, proportions of Mo and Ly6c(hi) increased (P < 0.01, P < 0.05), but HDL-C level decreased (P <0. 01) in the control group after intervention. Compared with the control group, body weight gained less in the Western medicine group and the Chinese medicine group (P < 0.05); the proportion of Ly6c(hi) subtype decreased in the Chinese medicine group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In development process blood lipids levels in apoE(-/-) mice are not only associated with age. Blood lipids levels induced growth changes in natural immune system are also correlated with age. In early stage of lipids development HJD intervention could correct this special immune disorder in apoE(-/-) mice.

RESUMEN

New advances have been pioneered in the pathogenesis,clinicopathological features,and treatment of oral venous lakes. It is concluded that oral venous lakes can be classified as a venous malformation,and multidisciplinary approaches (in particular the involvement of department of dermatology and department of ear,nose and throat) may be adopted to achieve better management of this disease.
