RESUMEN

Coinage-metal clusters with excellent luminescence properties have attracted considerable interest due to their intriguing structures and potential applications. However, achieving strong near-infrared (NIR) luminescence in these clusters is highly challenging. Here, we have successfully synthesized the first LnIII/CuI bimetallic clusters, formulated as [LnCu54O6Cl3(2-MeO-PhC≡C)36] (ClO4)6 (Ln = Yb for YbCu54, Er for ErCu54, and Gd for GdCu54). Single crystal X-ray diffraction showed that the LnCu54 clusters have a three-layered core-shell structure, consisting of (LnO6)@Cu18Cl3@Cu36 units protected by 36 2-MeO-PhC≡C- ligands. Notably, the YbCu54 cluster exhibits significant NIR-II luminescence at 986 nm with the solid quantum efficiency of 33.3%, the highest among Cu clusters with NIR-II emission. This work not only reports the first category of LnIII/CuI clusters but also presents a method to enhance NIR luminescence in coinage-metal clusters through the incorporation of LnIII ions.

RESUMEN

Effective screening and early detection are critical to improve the prognosis of gastric cancer (GC). Our study aims to explore noninvasive multianalytical biomarkers and construct integrative models for preliminary risk assessment and GC detection. Whole genomewide methylation marker discovery was conducted with CpG tandems target amplification (CTTA) in cfDNA from large asymptomatic screening participants in a high-risk area of GC. The methylation and mutation candidates were validated simultaneously using one plasma from patients at various gastric lesion stages by multiplex profiling with Mutation Capsule Plus (MCP). Helicobacter pylori specific antibodies were detected with a recomLine assay. Integrated models were constructed and validated by the combination of multianalytical biomarkers. A total of 146 and 120 novel methylation markers were found in CpG islands and promoter regions across the genome with CTTA. The methylation markers together with the candidate mutations were validated with MCP and used to establish a 133-methylation-marker panel for risk assessment of suspicious precancerous lesions and GC cases and a 49-methylation-marker panel as well as a 144-amplicon-mutation panel for GC detection. An integrated model comprising both methylation and specific antibody panels performed better for risk assessment than a traditional model (AUC, 0.83 and 0.63, P < .001). A second model for GC detection integrating methylation and mutation panels also outperformed the traditional model (AUC, 0.82 and 0.68, P = .005). Our study established methylation, mutation and H. pylori-specific antibody panels and constructed two integrated models for risk assessment and GC screening. Our findings provide new insights for a more precise GC screening strategy in the future.

RESUMEN

Ectomycorrhizal symbiosis, which involves mutually beneficial interactions between soil fungi and tree roots, is essential for promoting tree growth. To establish this symbiotic relationship, fungal symbionts must initiate and sustain mutualistic interactions with host plants while avoiding host defense responses. This study investigated the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by fungal NADPH oxidase (Nox) in the development of Laccaria bicolor/Populus tremula × alba symbiosis. Our findings revealed that L. bicolor LbNox expression was significantly higher in ectomycorrhizal roots than in free-living mycelia. RNAi was used to silence LbNox, which resulted in decreased ROS signaling, limited formation of the Hartig net, and a lower mycorrhizal formation rate. Using Y2H library screening, BiFC and Co-IP, we demonstrated an interaction between the mitogen-activated protein kinase LbSakA and LbNoxR. LbSakA-mediated phosphorylation of LbNoxR at T409, T477 and T480 positively modulates LbNox activity, ROS accumulation and upregulation of symbiosis-related genes involved in dampening host defense reactions. These results demonstrate that regulation of fungal ROS metabolism is critical for maintaining the mutualistic interaction between L. bicolor and P. tremula × alba. Our findings also highlight a novel and complex regulatory mechanism governing the development of symbiosis, involving both transcriptional and posttranslational regulation of gene networks.

RESUMEN

A variety of azaheterocycle-fused piperidines and pyrrolidines bearing CF3 and CHF2 functionalities were obtained using CF3SO2Na and CHF2SO2Na by visible light photocatalysis. This protocol involves a radical cascade cyclization via tandem tri- and difluoromethylation-arylation of pendent unactivated alkenes. Benzimidazole, imidazole, theophylline, purine, and indole serve as applicable anchors, thereby enriching the structural diversity of piperidine and pyrrolidine derivatives. This method features mild, additive-free and transition metal-free conditions.

RESUMEN

Glassy and liquid state metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are emerging type of materials subjected to intense research for their rich physical and chemical properties. In this report, we obtained the first glassy MOF that involves metal-carboxylate cluster building units via multi-stage structural transformations. This MOF is composed of linear [Mn3 (COO)6 ] node and flexible pyridyl-ethenylbenzoic linker. The crystalline MOF was first perturbed by vapor hydration and thermal dehydration to give an amorphous state, which can go through a glass transition at 505 K into a super-cooled liquid. The super-cooled liquid state is stable through a wide temperature range of 40 K and has the largest fragility index of 105, giving a broad processing window. Remarkably, the super-cooled liquid can not only be quenched into glass, but also recrystallize into the initial MOF when heated to a higher temperature above 558 K. The mechanism of the multi-stage structural transformations was studied by systematic characterizations of in situ X-ray diffraction, calorimetry, rheological, spectroscopic and pair-distribution function analysis. These multi-stage transformations not only represent a rare example of high temperature coordinative recognition and self-assembly, but also provide new MOF processing strategy through crystal-amorphous-liquid-crystal transformations.

RESUMEN

Current clinical treatment targeting osteosarcoma (OS) are limited for OS patients with pulmonary metastasis or relapse, which led to high mortality (70%-85%) for advanced osteosarcoma patients. Although ongoing efforts have been made to illustrate the mechanisms of tumorigenesis and progression in OS; however, it was far for us to learn a comprehensive molecular mechanism implies in OS development. In our study, we implicated a circRNA hsa_circ_0002137, which was higher expressed in osteosarcoma tumours compared with paracancerous tissue. The dysregulated expression pattern was also found in osteosarcoma cell lines. The role of circ_0002137 was explored via down- or up-regulated experiments. It was proved that down-regulation of circ_0002137 suppressed the progress of OS, including cell invasion, cell cycle and cell apoptosis. Furthermore, the correlation between circ_0002137 and miR-433-3p was predicted using bioinformatic tools and verified utilizing RNA pull-down assay and luciferase reporter assay. Interestingly, we found that the inhibitory effect of circ_0002137 on OS was dependent of insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF1R). In conclusion, it was demonstrated that circ_0002137 could restrain the progression of OS through regulating miR-433-3p/IGF1R axis, providing a comprehensive landscape of circ_0002137 in the generation and development of OS.

RESUMEN

The understanding of the hydrolysis mechanism of lanthanide ions is limited by their elusive coordination configuration and undeveloped technology. A potential solution by high-resolution mass spectroscopy studies is hindered by the lack of a stable model under electrospray ionization (ESI) conditions and the complexity of the spectra. Herein, it is demonstrated that diketonate ligands can efficiently stabilize the hydrolyzed intermediate cluster of Ln3+ under ESI conditions, and an effective mass difference fingerprint of isomorphism (MDFI) method is proposed, which can allow the determination of the nuclearity-number of the species without depth resolution. Thus, the hydrolysis of Ln3+ into an atomically precise hydroxide cluster is observed at the level of precise formulae. The species evolution upon hydrolysis is along the dominant path of {Eu3}-{Eu4}-{Eu9}-{Eu10}-{Eu11}-{Eu15}-{Eu16} and a nondominant path of {Eu3}-{Eu4}-{Eu8-1}-{Eu8-2} under the investigated conditions. The crystal of the {Eu16} species was obtained via low-temperature crystallization, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies show that its structure contains three octahedral {o-Ln6} units. The contradiction between multiple {o-Ln6} units in the structure and the absence in the formation process indicates that the repetitive subunit observed in the structure does not necessarily correspond to the construction units of high-nuclearity clusters. Photophysical measurements indicate that Eu16 cluster has a high total emission quantum efficacy of 12.8% in the solid state. This study provides fundamental insights into the formation, evolution, and assembly of small lanthanide hydroxide units upon hydrolysis, which is vital for the goal of directional synthesis of lanthanide hydroxide clusters.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND : The effectiveness of endoscopic screening on gastric cancer has not been widely investigated in China and the screening interval of repeated screening has not been determined. METHODS : In a population-based prospective study, we included 375,800 individuals, 14,670 of whom underwent endoscopic screening (2012-2018). We assessed the associations between endoscopic screening and risk of incident gastric cancer and gastric cancer-specific mortality, and examined changes in overall survival and disease-specific survival following screening. The optimal screening interval for repeated endoscopy for early detection of gastric cancer was explored. RESULTS : Ever receiving endoscopic screening significantly decreased the risk of invasive gastric cancer (age- and sex-adjusted relative risk [RR] 0.69, 95 % confidence interval [CI] 0.52-0.92) and gastric cancer-specific mortality (RR 0.33, 95 %CI 0.20-0.56), particularly for noncardia gastric cancer. Repeated screening strengthened the beneficial effect on invasive gastric cancer-specific mortality of one-time screening. Among invasive gastric cancers, screening-detected individuals had significantly better overall survival (RR 0.18, 95 %CI 0.13-0.25) and disease-specific survival (RR 0.18, 95 %CI 0.13-0.25) than unscreened individuals, particularly for those receiving repeated endoscopy. For individuals with intestinal metaplasia or low grade intraepithelial neoplasia, repeated endoscopy at an interval of < 2 years, particularly within 1 year, significantly enhanced the detection of early gastric cancer, compared with repeated screening after 2 years (P-trend = 0.02). CONCLUSION : Endoscopic screening prevented gastric cancer occurrence and death, and improved its prognosis in a population-based study. Repeated endoscopy enhanced the effectiveness. Screening interval should be based on gastric lesion severity.

RESUMEN

A series of acetylacetone-protected lanthanide-titanium-oxo clusters (LTOCs), formulated as [La6Ti(µ3-OH)8(acac)12(CH3O)2(CH3OH)6] (La6Ti; Hacac = acetylacetone) and [Ln9Ti2(µ4-O)(µ3-OH)14(acac)17(CH3O)2(CH3OH)3] [Ln = Eu (Eu9Ti2) and Tb (Tb9Ti2)], were synthesized through the reactions of LnCl3·6H2O (Ln = La, Eu, and Tb), Hacac, Ti(OiPr)4, and triethylamine in methanol. Crystal structural analysis shows that La6Ti exhibits an hourglass-like structure consisting of two La3Ti cubane subunits by sharing one Ti4+ ion, while Eu9Ti2 can be viewed as a combination of four Eu3Ti cubane subunits by sharing three corners and one side. The photoluminescence (PL) measurements show that Tb9Ti2 exhibits excellent PL properties with a high quantum yield (QY) of 34.8%, while Eu9Ti2 only has a QY of 1.4% because of the different photosensitizations of ligands to Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions in the photophysical process.

RESUMEN

Dipeptidyl peptidase III (DPP III) is a zinc-dependent enzyme that specifically hydrolyzes dipeptides from the N-terminal of different-length peptides, and it is involved in a number of physiological processes. Here, DPP III with an atypical pentapeptide zinc binding motif (HELMH) was identified from Corallococcus sp. EGB. It was shown that the activity of recombined CoDPP III was optimal at 50 °C and pH 7.0 with high thermostability up to 60 °C. Unique to CoDPP III, the crystal structure of the ligand-free enzyme was determined as a dimeric and closed form. The relatively small inter-domain cleft creates a narrower entrance to the substrate binding site and the unfavorable binding of the bulky naphthalene ring. The ectopic expression of CoDPP III in M. xanthus DK1622 resulted in a 12 h head start in fruiting body development compared with the wild type. Additionally, the A-signal prepared from the starving DK1622-CoDPP III rescued the developmental defect of the asgA mutant, and the fruiting bodies were more numerous and closely packed. Our data suggested that CoDPP III played a role in the fruiting body development of myxobacteria through the accumulation of peptides and amino acids to act as the A-signal.

RESUMEN

Building blocks with multiple components are promising for the synthesis of complex molecular assemblies, but are rarely available. Herein, we report a modification procedure for a multi-component building block [Ln3 Ti(HSA)6 (SA)4 (H2 O)]- ({Ln3 Ti-SA}, H2 SA=salicylic acid, Ln=Eu/Gd) to form new building blocks {Ln3 Tix -MSA} (H2 MSA=5-methoxysalicylic acid, x=1, 2, 3) by constructing [Ti(MSA)3 ]2- units. The obtained {Ln3 Tix -MSA} can further assemble into a chiral Ln22 Ti14 ring with the formulae [Eu22 Ti14 (MSA)48 (HMSA)22 (CH3 COO)4 (H2 O)10 (iPrOH)] and [Gd22 Ti14 (MSA)46 (HMSA)26 (CH3 COO)4 (H2 O)8 ]. Parallel experiments without Ti4+ result in linear Ln chains. Detailed analysis shows that the [Ti(MSA)4 ]4- unit makes the originally variable Ln chains become available building blocks and the modified [Ti(MSA)3 ]2- further triggers interesting chiral-sorting behavior. Finally, the electronic adsorption and magneto-optic responses of these molecular rings are investigated.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Dietary strategies that contribute to reducing incidence of Helicobacter pylori infection without negative side effects are highly desirable owing to worldwide bacterial prevalence and carcinogenesis potential. The aim of this study was to determine dosage effect of daily cranberry consumption on H. pylori suppression over time in infected adults to assess the potential of this complementary management strategy in a region with high gastric cancer risk and high prevalence of H. pylori infection. METHODS: This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial on 522 H. pylori-positive adults evaluated dose-response effects of proanthocyanidin-standardized cranberry juice, cranberry powder, or their placebos on suppression of H. pylori at 2 and 8 weeks by 13 C-urea breath testing and eradication at 45 days post-intervention. RESULTS: H. pylori-negative rates in placebo, low-proanthocyanidin, medium-proanthocyanidin, and high-proanthocyanidin cranberry juice groups at week 2 were 13.24%, 7.58%, 1.49%, and 13.85% and at week 8 were 7.35%, 7.58%, 4.48%, and 20.00%, respectively. Consumption of high-proanthocyanidin juice twice daily (44 mg proanthocyanidin/240-mL serving) for 8 weeks resulted in decreased H. pylori infection rate by 20% as compared with other dosages and placebo (P < 0.05). Percentage of H. pylori-negative participants increased from 2 to 8 weeks in subjects who consumed 44 mg proanthocyanidin/day juice once or twice daily, showing a statistically significant positive trend over time. Encapsulated cranberry powder doses were not significantly effective at either time point. Overall trial compliance was 94.25%. Cranberry juice and powder were well-tolerated. CONCLUSIONS: Twice-daily consumption of proanthocyanidin-standardized cranberry juice may help potentiate suppression of H. pylori infection. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ChiCTR1800017522, per WHO ICTRP.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Gastrointestinal microbiota may be involved in Helicobacter pylori-associated gastric cancer development. The aim of this study was to explore the possible microbial mechanisms in gastric carcinogenesis and potential dysbiosis arising from H. pylori infection. DESIGN: Deep sequencing of the microbial 16S ribosomal RNA gene was used to investigate alterations in paired gastric biopsies and stool samples in 58 subjects with successful and 57 subjects with failed anti-H. pylori treatment, relative to 49 H. pylori negative subjects. RESULTS: In H. pylori positive subjects, richness and Shannon indexes increased significantly (both p<0.001) after successful eradication and showed no difference to those of negative subjects (p=0.493 for richness and p=0.420 for Shannon index). Differential taxa analysis identified 18 significantly altered gastric genera after eradication. The combination of these genera into a Microbial Dysbiosis Index revealed that the dysbiotic microbiota in H. pylori positive mucosa was associated with advanced gastric lesions (chronic atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia/dysplasia) and could be reversed by eradication. Strong coexcluding interactions between Helicobacter and Fusobacterium, Neisseria, Prevotella, Veillonella, Rothia were found only in advanced gastric lesion patients, and were absent in normal/superficial gastritis group. Changes in faecal microbiota included increased Bifidobacterium after successful H. pylori eradication and more upregulated drug-resistant functional orthologs after failed treatment. CONCLUSION: H. pylori infection contributes significantly to gastric microbial dysbiosis that may be involved in carcinogenesis. Successful H. pylori eradication potentially restores gastric microbiota to a similar status as found in uninfected individuals, and shows beneficial effects on gut microbiota.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To clarify the full range of benefits and adverse consequences of Helicobacter pylori eradication as a strategy for gastric cancer prevention, the community-based intervention trial was launched in Linqu County, China. DESIGN: A total of 184,786 residents aged 25-54 years were enrolled in this trial and received (13)C-urea breath test. H. pylori positive participants were assigned into two groups, either receiving a 10-day quadruple anti-H. pylori treatment or lookalike placebos together with a single dosage of omeprazole and bismuth. RESULTS: The prevalence of H. pylori in trial participants was 57.6%. A total of 94,101 subjects completed the treatment. The overall H. pylori eradication rate was 72.9% in the active group. Gender, body mass index, history of stomach disease, baseline delta over baseline-value of (13)C-urea breath test, missed medication doses, smoking and drinking were independent predictors of eradication failure. The missed doses and high baseline delta over baseline-value were important contributors in men and women (all Ptrend<0.001). However, a dose-response relationship between failure rate and smoking or drinking index was found in men (all Ptrend<0.001), while high body mass index (Ptrend<0.001) and history of stomach disease were significant predictors in women. The treatment failure rate increased up to 48.8% (OR 2.87, 95% CI 2.24 to 3.68) in men and 39.4% (OR 2.67, 95% CI 1.61 to 4.42) in women with multiple factors combined. CONCLUSIONS: This large community-based intervention trial to eradicate H. pylori is feasible and acceptable. The findings of this trial lead to a distinct evaluation of factors influencing eradication that should be generally considered for future eradication therapies. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: ChiCTR-TRC-10000979 in accordance with WHO ICTRP requirements.

RESUMEN

The provenance study of ancient ceramics, as an important part in archaeological field, is the researching focus for researchers in scientific and technological archaeology. At present, the provenance study of ancient ceramics mainly depends on chemical analysis technologies while non-destructive physical structural analysis of ceramic glaze is relatively lacking. Therefore, it is difficult to have a comprehensive understanding of ancient ceramics. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an emerging non-destructive imaging technology with a high sensitivity. In this paper, the OCT combined with X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) is employed firstly to analyze celadon wares of Jingdezhen and Longquan found in Nanhai No.1 shipwreck which is dated to early Southern Song dynasty non-destructively. First, the glaze cross-section structures and decoration characteristics of the celadon wares of the two kilns, Jingdezhen and Longquan, are studied by OCT.The type, thickness of glaze, the glaze inclusions including bubbles, crystals, residual grains, and the cracks on the glaze surface are analyzed based on the OCT images obtained. The characteristics of glaze cross-section structures for the celadon wares of two kilns are compared, and the decoration technologies of the celadon wares are also determined. Next, the chemical compositions of glaze and body of the celadon wares of the two kilns,Jingdezhen and Longquan, are obtained by XRF and compared. Then, the relationship between the differences of glaze cross-section structures and chemical compositions of glaze are discussed. The results show that the celadon wares from Jingdezhen and Longquan are different in glaze cross-section structures, and are the chemical compositions of the glaze and body. Meanwhile the differences of glaze chemical composition are relevant to the differences of glaze cross-section structures. This paper shows that the combination of OCT and XRF is validate as an effective method to identify the porcelains from different kilns.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/AIMS: This study was designed to investigate the expression and function of gap junction protein connexin 45 (Cx45) in renal interlobar artery (RIA) of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR), and the association between hypertension and enhanced vasoconstrictive response in SHR. METHODS: Western blot analysis and pressure myography were used to examine the differences in expression and function of Cx45 in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) of RIA between SHR and normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats. RESULTS: Our results demonstrated that 1) whole-cell patch clamp measurements showed that the membrane capacitance and conductance of in-situ RIA VSMCs of SHR were significantly greater than those of WKY rats (p<0.05, n=6), suggesting that the coupling of gap junction between VSMCs of RIA was enhanced in SHR; 2) the KCl or phenylephrine (PE)-stimulated RIA constriction was more pronounced in SHR than that in WKY rats (p<0.05, n=10). After applying a gap junction inhibitor 18ß-glycyrrhetintic acid (18ß-GA), the inhibitory effect of 18ß-GA on KCl or PE-induced vasoconstriction was greater in SHR (p<0.05, n=10); and 3) the expression of Cx45 in RIA of SHR was greater than that in WKY rats (p<0.05, n=3) at 4, 12 and 48 wks of age. CONCLUSIONS: The hypertension-induced elevation of Cx45 may affect communication between VSMCs and coupling between VSMCs and endothelium, which results in an increased vasoconstrictive response in renal artery and might contribute to the development of hypertension.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: Traumatic intracranial aneurysms present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Owing to their fragile nature, endovascular intervention has become the first-line treatment; however, direct surgery has an advantage in certain cases. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 34-year-old man in coma was admitted after a motor vehicle accident. Brain computed tomographic scans revealed deep bifrontal, left intraventricular, and subarachnoid hemorrhages. Three-dimensional computed tomographic angiography and digital subtraction angiography revealed an aneurysm arising from the left pericallosal artery. INTERVENTION: A massive intracerebral hematoma prompted us to perform emergency surgical intervention. We immediately removed the hematoma and extirpated the aneurysm. After hematoma evacuation via the interhemispheric approach, a pulsating red sphere projecting from the pericallosal artery, with no obvious solid wall or neck, was encountered. While retracting the frontal lobe, it suddenly ruptured. Under temporary trapping of the parent artery, the point of bleeding was identified. No aneurysm wall or fibrous tissue was present, whereas a 1.5-mm laceration was observed at the pericallosal artery close to its branching point. The laceration was sutured with 10-0 nylon. Postoperative digital subtraction angiography confirmed patency of the pericallosal artery. CONCLUSIONS: Although recent technologic advances of intravascular surgery have enabled successful treatment of traumatic pseudoaneurysms, open surgical intervention still has some advantages of providing definitive hemostasis, allowing for parent artery reconstruction, and facilitating mass reduction. The case in the current study was quite unusual in that angiographic aneurysm had disrupted easily, leaving arterial laceration. This finding implies the probability of unavoidable parent artery occlusion when endovascular treatment is applied.

RESUMEN

OBJECT: To explore the clinical feasibility of employing occlusion to treat basilar artery dissecting aneurysm. METHODS: One patient, male and 46 years old, suffered transient numbness and weakness on the right limbs. Cerebral angiography indicated basilar artery dissecting aneurysm. The patient underwent the stent-assisted coil embolization of aneurysm and the result is satisfactory. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) reviews were performed at 1 month and 4.5 months, respectively after the operation and indicate that the basilar artery is unobstructed and there was no recurrence of the aneurysm. DSA review 1 year after the first treatment indicates the aneurysm recurrence, stent-assisted coils dense embolization of aneurysm was performed again and the result was satisfactory. Ten months after the second operation, DSA review found the basilar artery aneurysm recurrence again and occlusion of the basilar artery was performed. RESULTS: The basilar artery occlusion was effective. The bilateral posterior inferior cerebellar arteries and the bilateral posterior cerebral arteries are unobstructed. Five months of follow-up found that the patient recovered well. DSA reviews performed 5 months after occlusion indicate no recurrence of the aneurysm. CONCLUSIONS: Occlusion to treat basilar artery dissecting aneurysm is clinically feasible, but surgical indications should be considered strictly.

RESUMEN

Abstract NPHS2 mutations are responsible for autosomal recessive familial steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) with minor glomerular abnormalities or focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), which is characterized by early childhood onset and rapid progression to chronic renal insufficiency. This gene mutation is also responsible for an adolescent onset form of autosomal recessive familial FSGS with heavy proteinuria. Many infants with late steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (late SRNS) are prone to an implicated clinical and therapeutic course. The etiopathogenesis and the long-term prognosis of late SRNS remain obscure. Considering the similar steroid resistance between late and initial SRNS, analysis of NPHS2 variation was performed in 70 sporadic Chinese infants with late SRNS and 70 controls in the present study to investigate the possible role of NPHS2 gene in late SRNS. The variation analysis revealed three polymorphisms (288C > T heterozygous in exon 2, 954T > C heterozygous and homozygous, and 1038A > G heterozygous in exon 8) in 22 out of 70 patients studied. In conclusion, NPHS2 gene mutations are not a major cause of chronic renal insufficiency caused by late SRNS in Chinese southern infants.
