OBJECTIVE: To investigate the extent of extraskeletal manifestations along with inpatient outcomes and complications associated with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). STUDY DESIGN: This cross-sectional study utilized the Kids' Inpatient Database as a part of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project to investigate inpatient hospital outcomes and management in patients with OI from 1997 through 2016. Data regarding hospital characteristics, cost of treatment, inpatient outcomes, and procedures were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: There were 7291 admissions that listed OI as a diagnosis in the Kids' Inpatient Database from 1997 through 2016. Unexpectedly, more than one-third of all admissions in these children with OI presented with an extraskeletal manifestation. The rate of major complications was 3.85%. The rate of minor complications was 19.4%, most commonly respiratory problems. The mortality rate was 18.2% in the neonatal period and 1.0% in all other admissions. Total charges of hospital stay increased over the years. CONCLUSIONS: We identified a striking prevalence of extraskeletal manifestations in OI along with inpatient outcomes and complications associated with OI, of which respiratory complications were predominant. We observed a significant financial burden for patients with OI and identified additional risks for financial crisis, in addition to disparities in care identified among socioeconomic groups. These data contribute to a more holistic understanding of OI from diagnosis to management.

The soil comprising organic matter, nutrients, serve as substrate for plant growth and various organisms. In areas where there are large plantations, there is a huge leaf litter fall. The leaf litter upon decomposition releases nutrients and helps in nutrient recycling, for which the soil engineers such as earthworms, ants and termites are important key players. In this context, the present study was conducted to assess the characteristics of the vermicast obtained by vermicomposting neem leaf litter in terms of microbial flora, plant growth promoting properties and antagonistic activities of the vermicast against phytopathogens. Vermicomposting of neem leaf litter was done using two epigeic earthworm species Eisenia fetida and Eudrilus eugeniae. The vermicast exhibited antagonistic potential against plant pathogens. Out of the four vermiwash infusions studied, the 75 % formulation reduced the disease incidence against mealybug by 82 % in the tree Neolamarkia cadamba. The result of the study suggests that vermicast made from neem leaf litter may be a potent combination of a biofertilizer and a pesticide.

The removal of pollutants from water bodies is crucial for the well-being of humanity and is a topic of global research. Researchers have turned their attention to green synthesized nanoparticles for wastewater treatment due to their eco-friendly nature, biocompatibility, and cost-effectiveness. This work demonstrates the efficient removal of organic dye and both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria from water bodies using copper-doped cerium oxide nanoparticles synthesized withMurraya Koenigiiextract. Characterized via various methods, the 15% copper doped cerium oxide nanoparticles (Cu 15% NPs) exhibited maximum Congo red dye adsorption (98% degradation in 35 min). Kinetic analysis favoured a pseudo-second-order model, indicating the chemical nature of adsorption. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms aligned with the Langmuir model, indicating homogenous monolayer dye adsorption on the doped adsorbent. The maximum uptake of adsorbate,Qmobtained from Langmuir model for Cu 15% NPs was 193 mg g-1. The study also showed enhanced antibacterial activity againstBacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coliandPseudomonas aeruginosafor Cu-doped ceria, attributed to generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced by the redox cycling between Ce3+and Ce4+. This substantiated that the green synthesized copper doped cerium oxide nanoparticles are potential candidates for adsorptive removal of Congo red dye and as antibacterial agents.

RESUMEN

Pediatric musculoskeletal infections (MSIs) are a major contributor to the global burden of musculoskeletal disease in children and young adults. If untreated, or treated inappropriately or inadequately, pediatric bone and joint infections can be fatal or result in morbidity that causes significant functional disabilities to the patient and economic burden to the family and the community at large. The past decade has witnessed many advances in this field with respect to early diagnosis, management, and prevention of complications. It is important to discuss the current controversies in the management of pediatric MSIs with an international perspective. This discussion should include the controversies associated with the early diagnosis and identification of pediatric MSI in diverse settings; the controversies involved in the nonsurgical and surgical management of acute pediatric MSIs; and the controversies associated with the management of sequelae of pediatric MSI.

INTRODUCTION: Knee osteoarthritis is most common among women with obesity. It may lead to physical inactivity that, in turn, causes fatigue or lack of physical enthusiasm to perform meaningful daily activities. Hence, this study aimed to examine whether pain level, obesity indices and functional performances are associated with fatigue severity in women with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited women referred to physiotherapy to manage OA. The measurements included fatigue severity (fatigue severity scale); pain level (numerical rating scale); obesity indices (body mass index, fat %, waist circumference); functional performances (upper limb strength, lower limb strength, mobility, exercise capacity and quality of life). A simple linear regression analysis was used to determine which independent variable may be associated with fatigue severity. RESULTS: Ninety-six women with unilateral KOA participated in this study (Mean age, 55.70, Standard Deviation, SD 6.90) years; Mean fatigue severity, 34.51, SD 14.03). The simple linear regression analysis showed that pain level (ß=4.089, p<0.001), fat % (ß=0.825, p<0.001) and QoL (ß=0.304, p<0.001) were significantly associated with fatigue. After controlling for pain level, only fat % was significantly associated with fatigue (ß=0.581, p=0.005). CONCLUSION: Pain level, fat %, and QoL appear to be associated with fatigue severity in women with KOA. In addition, pain symptoms may interact with factors associated with fatigue severity.

INTRODUCTION: Febrile seizures in children can be associated with various underlying conditions, including COVID-19. Differentiating COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 related febrile seizures is crucial for tailored patient management and for implementing appropriate infection control measures to prevent nosocomial transmission. This study aimed to describe the clinical features of children hospitalised for COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 febrile seizures and to identify factors that differentiate between the two groups. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study involved children aged 6 months to 6 years who were hospitalised for febrile seizures in Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar Seremban (HTJS) from January 2021 to June 2022. Descriptive statistics were used to summarise the differences in demographics and clinical presentations. Logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 febrile seizures. RESULTS: Of the 345 patients (median age 22 months, IQR 15- 32; 59.7% were males) included in the study, 130 (37.7%) tested positive for COVID-19, while 215 (62.3%) tested negative. There were no significant differences between both groups based on age, comorbidities, history of febrile seizures, seizure types, temperature on arrival, cough and rhinorrhoea. Multivariate analysis revealed that a family history of febrile seizures and leucocytosis were associated with increased odds of non-COVID-19 febrile seizures. In contrast, lymphopenia was associated with decreased odds. CONCLUSION: The clinical presentation of COVID-19 and non- COVID-19 febrile seizures are remarkably similar, highlighting the importance of including COVID-19 screening in febrile seizures workup. Full blood count readings may be potentially useful for differentiating between these conditions.

The agricultural industry faces a permanent increase in waste generation, which is associated with the fast-growing population. Due to the environmental hazards, there is a paramount demand for generating electricity and value-added products from renewable sources. The selection of the conversion method is crucial to develop an eco-friendly, efficient and economically viable energy application. This manuscript investigates the influencing factors that affect the quality and yield of the biochar, bio-oil and biogas during the microwave pyrolysis process, evaluating the biomass nature and diverse combinations of operating conditions. The by-product yield depends on the intrinsic physicochemical properties of biomass. Feedstock with high lignin content is favourable for biochar production, and the breakdown of cellulose and hemicellulose leads to higher syngas formation. Biomass with high volatile matter concentration promotes the generation of bio-oil and biogas. The pyrolysis system's conditions of input power, microwave heating suspector, vacuum, reaction temperature, and the processing chamber geometry were influence factors for optimising the energy recovery. Increased input power and microwave susceptor addition lead to high heating rates, which were beneficial for biogas production, but the excess pyrolysis temperature induce a reduction of bio-oil yield.

Hypertension (HTN) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are pathophysiologic states that are intimately related, such that long-term HTN can lead to poor kidney function, and renal function decline can lead to worsening blood pressure (BP) control. HTN in CKD is caused by an interplay of factors, including salt and water retention, with extracellular volume expansion, sympathetic nervous system overactivity, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system activation, and endothelial dysfunction. BP variability in the CKD population is significant, however, and thus requires close monitoring for appropriate management. With accumulating evidence, the diagnosis as well as management of HTN in CKD has been evolving in the last decade. In this comprehensive review based on current evidence and recommendations, we summarize the basics of pathophysiology, BP variability, diagnosis, and management of HTN in CKD with an emphasis on special populations with CKD.

BACKGROUND: Congenital synostosis of the knee is a rare condition with limited data on treatment options and outcomes. This study reports clinical findings, treatment approach, and surgical/clinical outcomes for congenital synostosis of the knee. METHODS: An institutional review board-approved retrospective review of patients with congenital synostosis of the knee presenting to 2 institutions between 1997 and 2021 was performed. RESULTS: Eight patients (13 knees) with a median follow-up of 11.3 years (3.3 to 17 y) were included. Seven patients had associated syndromes. Patients presented with an average knee flexion deformity of 100° (range 60 to 130°) and delayed walking ability. Seven patients had associated upper extremity hypoplasia/phocomelia. The average age at the index surgery was 4.3 years (range 1.2 to 9.2 y). Synostosis resection with gradual deformity correction was performed in most patients. An attempt was made at a mobile knee in some patients, but all went on to knee fusion. Mean flexion deformity at final follow-up was 11.6° (range: 0 to 40°) and 5 limbs were fused in full extension. Mean limb length discrepancy at final follow-up was 6.8 cm (range: 0 to 8 cm). All patients maintained their improved ambulation status at final follow-up. Twenty-two complications were identified. CONCLUSIONS: Reliable correction of the deformity associated with congenital knee synostosis was achieved at a median follow-up of 11 years. Importantly, all patients maintained their improved ambulation at final follow-up. This is the largest study on patients with congenital knee synostosis and outlines a reconstructive approach to improve ambulatory status. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV.

Mammalian antibody switch regions (∼1500 bp) are composed of a series of closely neighboring G4-capable sequences. Whereas numerous structural and genome-wide analyses of roles for minimal G4s in transcriptional regulation have been reported, Long G4-capable regions (LG4s)-like those at antibody switch regions-remain virtually unexplored. Using a novel computational approach we have identified 301 LG4s in the human genome and find LG4s prone to mutation and significantly associated with chromosomal rearrangements in malignancy. Strikingly, 217 LG4s overlap annotated enhancers, and we find the promoters regulated by these enhancers markedly enriched in G4-capable sequences suggesting G4s facilitate promoter-enhancer interactions. Finally, and much to our surprise, we also find single-stranded loops of minimal G4s within individual LG4 loci are frequently highly complementary to one another with 178 LG4 loci averaging >35 internal loop:loop complements of >8 bp. As such, we hypothesized (then experimentally confirmed) that G4 loops within individual LG4 loci directly basepair with one another (similar to characterized stem-loop kissing interactions) forming a hitherto undescribed, higher-order, G4-based secondary structure we term a 'G4 Kiss or G4K'. In conclusion, LG4s adopt novel, higher-order, composite G4 structures directly contributing to the inherent instability, regulatory capacity, and maintenance of these conspicuous genomic regions.

OBJECTIVES: The Government of India prohibited the sale of tobacco products during the COVID-19 lockdown to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This study assessed the tobacco cessation behaviour and its predictors among adult tobacco users during the initial COVID-19 lockdown period in India. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 801 adult tobacco users (both smoking and smokeless tobacco) in two urban metropolitan cities of India over a 2-month period (July to August 2020). The study assessed complete tobacco cessation and quit attempts during the lockdown period. Logistic and negative binomial regression models were used to study the correlates of tobacco cessation and quit attempts, respectively. RESULTS: In total, 90 (11.3%) tobacco users reported that they had quit using tobacco after the COVID-19 lockdown period. Overall, a median of two quit attempts (interquartile range 0-6) was made by tobacco users. Participants with good knowledge on the harmful effects of tobacco use and COVID-19 were significantly more likely to quit tobacco use (odds ratio [OR] 2.2; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.2-4.0) and reported more quit attempts (incidence risk ratio 5.7; 95% CI 2.8-11.8) compared to those with poor knowledge. Participants who had access to tobacco products were less likely to quit tobacco use compared to those who had no access (OR 0.3; 95% CI 0.2-0.5]. CONCLUSIONS: Access restrictions and correct knowledge on the harmful effects of tobacco use and COVID-19 can play an important role in creating a conducive environment for tobacco cessation among users.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric acute hematogenous osteomyelitis (AHO) outcomes are highly dependent on the disease severity. Recently, the A-SCORE and C-SCORE, were proposed as predictors of an acute complicated course and chronic morbidity, respectively. The purpose of this study was to externally validate the A-SCORE and C-SCORE at a single institution. METHODS: This IRB-approved retrospective chart review included AHO patients admitted at a tertiary referral hospital between October 1, 2015 and December 31, 2019. The inclusion criteria were ages 0 to 18 and clinical response to treatment. The exclusion criteria were immunocompromised status or penetrating inoculation. RESULTS: The A-SCORE demonstrated an area under the receiver operator curve (ROC area) of >86% with regards to all acute complications. It also demonstrated sensitivities >85% and specificities >92% at the cut-off of 4 (Youden index) for all acute complications. The C-SCORE demonstrated an ROC area of 100% with regards to chronic osteomyelitis. It also demonstrated sensitivities >70% and specificities >93% for the chronic morbidity variables seen in our population at the cut-off of 3 (Youden index.). CONCLUSIONS: These novel composite clinical scores, in combination with clinical judgment, could help guide early care decisions. The A-SCORE and C-SCORE are useful risk stratification tools in the management of pediatric AHO and in predicting acute complicated courses or chronic sequelae of AHO, respectively. These scoring systems, if integrated into standardized pediatric AHO guidelines, can allow clinicians to stratify the AHO population and guide clinical decision making. Jusepe de Ribera's most famous artistic works consisted of the bizarre such as mutilated bodies and social outcasts, with one being of a Neapolitan beggar boy with upper and lower limb joint contractures. Although the etiology of the boy's contractures in The Clubfoot has been debated, we present a case for arthrogryposis with a unilateral clubfoot as the most likely diagnosis.

OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the perception and practices of health care providers (physicians, diabetologists, and endocrinologists) regarding the treatment of hypertension in patients with diabetes in India. METHODS: Health care providers throughout India who treated patients with diabetes and hypertension were invited to participate in an online survey and periodic 21 virtual meetings. They were questioned about their perception and practices in managing these patients, and strategies to improve blood pressure (BP). RESULTS: The online survey was completed by 2,513 health care providers, and 344 participated in virtual meetings. More than 50% reported that 31-50% of their patients with diabetes also had hypertension. Home BP monitoring was recommended by 88%, and lifestyle modifications were consistently recommended. Choice of antihypertensive treatment varied based on comorbidities, and a renin-angiotensin system blocker plus a calcium channel blocker (CCB) was the most common combination for dual antihypertensive therapy. Suggested strategies to improve BP control included patient awareness/education, lifestyle modifications, better follow-up/monitoring, and optimization of therapy. CONCLUSION: Indian health care providers were aware of clinical recommendations and practices regarding treatment of patients with diabetes and hypertension, and generally make clinical decisions consistent with current guidelines. Optimization of care for these patients is essential to reduce cardiovascular disease risk and improve patient outcomes.

Background and Aims: Intubation with cuffed endotracheal tube (ETT) is common in operation rooms, critical care, and emergency rooms. The pressure exerted by the cuff on the tracheal mucosa can lead to a reduction in blood flow to the tracheal wall and result in mucosal ischemia. There are many methods for ETT cuff inflation. Aim of the study was to compare the cuff pressures and volumes between the three methods of ETT cuff inflation. Material and Methods: One hundred and twenty patients were randomized into three groups: Group SG (stethescope guided), group AL (audible leak), and group P (palpation). In group SG, the cuff was inflated by auscultating with the bell of the stethoscope over the thyroid cartilage for leak around cuff. In group AL, the cuff was inflated by listening for an audible leak around the cuff with observer's ear 5 cm away from the mouth of the patient. In group P, the cuff was inflated by palpating for a leak over the cricoid and trachea. The adequacy of the cuff seal was compared between the groups by assessing the volumes of additional air needed to stop the leak around the cuff as confirmed by supraglottic capnometry. Results: The initial volumes needed to inflate the cuff were significantly more in the stethoscope (SG) and hearing (AL) groups than in the palpation (P) group (SG = 5.1 ± 1.4 ml, AL = 4.6 ± 1.6 ml, P = 3.1 ± 0.9 ml; SG and AL vs. P, P < 0.001). Additional cuff volumes required to achieve zero leak around cuff by supraglottic capnometry were 0.85 ± 1 ml in group SG, 1.3 ± 1.1 ml in group AL, and 2.237 ± 0.8 ml in group P (SG vs. P and AL vs. P; P < 0.001). Conclusion: Out of the auscultation-guided, audible leak-guided, and palpation-guided methods of ETT cuff inflation, the auscultation-guided and audible leak-guided methods achieve significantly better tracheal seal than the palpation-guided method.

Radiation therapy is an effective treatment modality for a variety of cancers. Despite several advances in delivery techniques, its main drawback remains the deposition of dose in normal tissues which can result in toxicity. Common practices of evaluating toxicity, using questionnaires and grading systems, provide little underlying information beyond subjective scores, and this can limit further optimization of treatment strategies. Nuclear medicine imaging techniques can be utilised to directly measure regional baseline function and function loss from internal/external radiation therapy within normal tissues in an in vivo setting with high spatial resolution. This can be correlated with dose delivered by radiotherapy techniques to establish objective dose-effect relationships, and can also be used in the treatment planning step to spare normal tissues more efficiently. Toxicity in radionuclide therapy typically occurs due to undesired off-target uptake in normal tissues. Molecular imaging using diagnostic analogues of therapeutic radionuclides can be used to test various interventional protective strategies that can potentially reduce this normal tissue uptake without compromising tumour uptake. We provide an overview of the existing literature on these applications of nuclear medicine imaging in diverse normal tissue types utilising various tracers, and discuss its future potential.

Cardiac vasculitis is recognized as a heterogeneous disease process with a wide spectrum of manifestations including pericarditis, myocarditis, valvular heart disease and less frequently, coronary artery vasculitis (CAV). CAV encompasses an emerging field of diseases which differ from conventional atherosclerotic disease and have a proclivity for the younger population groups. CAV portends multiple complications including the development of coronary artery aneurysms, coronary stenotic lesions, and thrombosis, all which may result in acute coronary syndromes. There are several aetiologies for CAV; with Kawasaki's disease, Takayasu's arteritis, Polyarteritis Nodosa, and Giant-Cell Arteritis more frequently described clinically, and in literature. There is a growing role for multi-modality imaging in assisting the diagnostic process; including transthoracic echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography coronary angiography, fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography and conventional coronary angiogram with intravascular ultrasound. Whilst the treatment paradigms fundamentally vary between different aetiologies, there are overlaps with pharmacological regimes in immunosuppressive agents and anti-platelet therapies. Interventional and surgical management are is a consideration in select populations groups, within a multi-disciplinary context. Further large-scale studies are required to better appropriately outline management protocols in this niche population.

PURPOSE: We earlier reported that Sestrin2 regulates monocyte activation and atherogenic events through AMPK-mTOR nexus under high-glucose and dyslipidemic conditions. However, the statuses of Sestrins in diabetes and dyslipidemia are not known. We report here on the status of Sestrins and their association with diabetic dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis. METHODS: Individuals with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) (n = 46), dyslipidemia (n = 42), and patients with Type 2 diabetes with (n = 41) and without dyslipidemia (n = 40) were recruited from a tertiary diabetes centre, Chennai, India to study the mRNA expression levels of Sestrins (1, 2, and 3) in monocytes by RT-qPCR. Serum levels of Sestrins were measured using ELISA. Atherogenic index of plasma was calculated as log (triglyceride/HDL). RESULTS: mRNA expressions of Sestrin1 and Sestrin3 were significantly reduced in monocytes under dyslipidemic conditions but not in diabetes condition. Interestingly, Sestrin2 mRNA expression was significantly reduced in all disease conditions including dyslipidemia, and diabetes with and without dyslipidemia. Sestrin2 mRNA levels were negatively correlated with glycemic and lipid parameters and plasma atherogenic index. Furthermore, circulatory Sestrin2 was also found to be significantly decreased in dyslipidemia (415.2 ± 44.7 pg/ml), diabetes (375 ± 45 pg/ml), and diabetes with dyslipidemia (319.2 ± 26.3 pg/ml) compared to NGT (706.3 ± 77 pg/ml) and negatively correlated with glycemic, lipid parameters, and plasma atherogenic index. CONCLUSION: We report for the first time that Sestrins levels are significantly decreased in diabetes and dyslipidemic conditions. More strikingly, Sestrin2 had a strong association with atherogenic risk factors and severity of atherogenic index and we suggest that Sestrin2 may be used as a biomarker for assessing atherogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Arterial sampling, which is the gold standard for measuring lactate levels in sepsis, is more painful, requires experience and is associated with a higher incidence of morbidity, when compared with venous sampling. This study attempted to measure the correlation and agreement between arterial and peripheral venous (PV) lactate and between arterial and central venous (CV) lactate, with the objective to test interchangeability of the two and possibly support the use of venous lactate levels in resuscitating patients with sepsis. METHODS: Eighty-seven patients admitted to the critical care unit of our hospital with the diagnosis of sepsis or septic shock were included in the study after taking informed consent. The arterial, PV and CV samples were taken within the first 24 hours following admission and within 10 minutes of each other. Lactate levels, CV oxygen saturation (ScvO2 ) and base excess of each sample type were reported within 15 minutes of collection. Patients were followed up for a period of 28 days to record the need for organ support (newly diagnosed renal failure, need for renal replacement therapy [RRT], liver failure, coagulopathy and need for ventilation) and mortality. RESULTS: Pearson correlation for arterial versus PV lactate was 0.76 and for arterial versus CV lactate was 0.992. The mean difference between arterial and PV lactate was found to be -0.30 (95% confidence interval [CI], -0.38 to -0.21). The upper and lower limits of agreement were 0.51 and -1.10, respectively. Mean difference between arterial and CV lactate was found to be -0.13 (95% CI, -0.21 to -0.05). Upper and lower limits of agreement were 0.63 and -0.89, respectively. CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrates a high level of agreement in the lactate levels as measured on venous samples and arterial samples. Venous lactate levels are reliable in resuscitation of patients with sepsis.

BACKGROUND: Tropical pyomyositis has had a recent increase in the United States, Europe, and other nontropical areas. The purpose of this study was to provide an accurate description of the demographics, presenting features, sites of involvement, microbiology, imaging modalities, medical and surgical management, complications, and predictors of clinical course. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science Collection, Scopus, and Embase databases yielding 156 studies. Of these, 23 articles were selected for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The average age at presentation was 8.4±1.9 years with males more commonly affected. Fever, painful limp, and localized pain were the most common presenting symptoms. Pelvis, lower extremity, trunk and spine, in descending order, were the most commonly affected locations. Iliopsoas, obturator musculature, and gluteus musculature were the most commonly affected muscle groups. The mean time to diagnosis was 6.6±3.05 days. Staphylococcus aureus was the most common offending organism. The mean length of hospital stay was 12.0±4.6 days. Medical management alone was successful in 40% of cases (143/361) with an average duration of 9.5±4.0 and 22.7±7.2 days of intravenous and oral antibiotics, respectively. Surgical management consisted of open drainage in 91.3% (199/218) or percutaneous drainage in 8.7% (19/218) of cases. Painful limp, fever, and larger values of white cell count and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were associated with an increased need for surgery. Obturator and calf muscle involvement were strongly associated with multifocal involvement. There were 42 complications in 41 patients (11.3%). Methicillin-resistant S. aureus was associated with an increased risk of complications. The most common complications were osteomyelitis, septicemia, and septic arthritis. CONCLUSIONS: Primary pyomyositis should be considered in cases suggesting pediatric infection. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most commonly used imaging modality; however, ultrasound is useful given its accessibility and low cost. Medical management alone can be successful, but surgical treatment is often needed. The prognosis is favorable. Early diagnosis, appropriate medical management, and potential surgical drainage are required for effective treatment. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV-systematic review.
