RESUMEN

Lymphomas are a group of neoplasm arising from immune cells with varied clinical presentation, molecular profile, morphology and immunophenotype. The epidemiology and response to treatment varies among patients from different geographical locations. We analyze the demographic characteristics of lymphomas in a tertiary care center of India over a period of five years. This was a retrospective study including cases from 2015 to 2019 which were classified according to WHO classification 2017. A total of 4115 lymphoma cases were diagnosed. Hodgkin lymphomas (HL) comprised 30.35% (n = 1249), and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) was 69.65% (n = 2866). Site of presentation was nodal in 64.76% cases, and 35.23% were extranodal. There was an overall male predominance. Among the NHLs, B-cell type comprised of 84.08% and 15.38% was T- and NK cell lymphomas. Mature B cell lymphomas comprised 82.41% with predominant being diffuse large B cell lymphoma type (42.53%) followed by follicular lymphoma (10.81%) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (6.10%). Among the T-cell type, PTCL NOS (2.65%) was the predominant subtype followed by ALK positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL-ALK+) (2.44%), extranodal NK-T cell lymphoma (2.02%) and others. Classical type was predominant type (97.91%) among HL, and 2.08% were nodular lymphocyte predominant type. Among the classical HL, nodular sclerosis (28.1%) and mixed cellularity (32.18%) co-dominated. Our study indicates that the Indian population differs in the prevalence, presentation and the subtyping among various lymphomas. Higher prevalence of Hodgkin lymphoma, DLBCL, ALK + ALCL and immature cell neoplasm was noted.

The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of dietary replacement of commonly used vegetable oil (sunflower oil, SFO) with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) rich oil sources on broiler chicken performance, carcass yield, meat fatty acid composition, keeping quality and sensory attributes of meat. In the current experiment, 300 day-old Krishibro broiler chicks were randomly distributed to 5 dietary groups (50 replicates with 6 chicks in each) prepared by replacing SFO (2% and 3% of diet during starter and finisher periods, respectively) with n-3 PUFA rich soybean oil (SO), mustard oil (MO), linseed oil (LO) or fish oil (FO) on weight basis. Variation in oil sources had no influence (P > 0.05) on performance and carcass yield. Supplementation of MO, LO or FO significantly (P < 0.01) increased the n-3 PUFA, lowered the n-6 PUFA deposition and n-6:n-3 ratio in breast and thigh without affecting the organoleptic characters (appearance, flavour, juiciness, tenderness and overall acceptability) of meat. However, thiobarbituric acid reacting substances concentration in meat was increased (P < 0.01) with LO and FO supplementation compared with SFO. It is concluded that, dietary incorporation of MO, LO or FO at 2% and 3% levels during starter and finisher phase can enrich broiler chicken meat with n-3 PUFA without affecting the bird's performance and sensory characters of meat.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the interaction and main effects of supplemental Zn and Mn levels on growth, tissue mineral uptake, and immune response in broiler chicken. A basal diet of corn-soybean meal was supplemented with Zn at 40, 80, or 160 ppm and Mn at 60, 120, or 240 ppm in a factorial pattern to constitute nine experimental diets. Each diet was offered to nine replicates of six chicks in stainless steel battery brooders. At 35 days of age, body weight gain, feed conversion efficiency, hock joint scores, tibia weight, tibia strength, and percent ash were not influenced by Zn and Mn levels and their interactions. The concentration of Zn (207-238 ppm) and Mn (11.8-16.3 ppm) in tibia increased linearly with progressive raise of mineral inclusion in diets. Mn at 240 ppm level caused higher retention of Zn in tibia, but not vice versa. Manganese either alone or in combination with Zn (Zn160/Mn120 ppm) significantly reduced Cu retention (10.1-7.2 ppm) in tibia. Even in the hepatic tissue, Zn (93.6-98.4 ppm) and Mn (9.3-10.2 ppm) concentration increased linearly with their levels of inclusion in diets. When Zn and Mn levels were maintained at 4:3 ratio (80:60 or 160:120 ppm), the concentration of Zn (100-106 ppm) in liver was higher, while that of Mn was significantly more with low level of Zn (40 ppm) in diet. However, Mn supplementation at 120 ppm level and above significantly decreased Cu accumulation (19.5-17.1 ppm) in liver, but Mn × Zn interaction had no effect on Cu retention. The immune response measured as antibody titers to sheep RBC increased (5.9-7.9 log(2)) significantly with higher Zn (80 ppm) supplementation and cell-mediated immune response to phytohemagglutinin (0.57-0.78) with Mn level at 120 ppm. In summary, Zn (40 ppm) and Mn (60 ppm) as recommended by NRC was sufficient for broiler performance and bone parameters. Mn complimented Zn retention in tibia and antagonized Cu in tibia and liver tissues. Higher levels of Zn (80 ppm) and Mn (120 ppm) than those recommended by NRC were needed for improved immune response in broilers at 35 days of age.
